1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Why does no one use the BitShares Exchange DEX? on: June 15, 2016, 10:55:52 PM
I'm not looking for a technical discussion between PoS, PoW, etc... but rather fundamentally why traders and speculators are not using the DEX provided by BitShares?  Bag holders need not apply to this discussion.  BitShares does have additional functionality which can bring usage to the SmartCoins, UIA's etc... however I am only wondering about crypto traders at this point in time.

My thoughts and questions without getting into politics:

-Liquidity is a major problem however this is a chicken and egg problem.

-With liquidity, any market can exist on a completely open system.  BitFacebook, BitNasdaq, BitOil etc...  Yes we are talking options and at this point in time we can not take delivery of the physical good however the sky is the limit and we do not know where this technology will take us.  The entire world financial market looks to be headed into chaos.  Think:  increased taxes, capital controls, frozen accounts.

-After seeing all the other exchanges nonsense why do people still use these proprietary systems?  We have no idea what is going on behind the scenes.  Recently with ETH prices going through the rough at polo, one begins to wonder is there some sort of willy bot going on again?  The BTS wallet flips this on the head and should make the exchanges fight for your business getting into and out of the BTS ecosystem.  Take a look at the deposit and withdraw screen so see what I mean.  3rd party exchanges simply become a gateway and not a huge target for hackers etc...  You have the ability to deposit/withdraw other crypto directly from the web based wallet.  Can operate as a bridge, gateway, or even with fiat via OpenLedger.

-Are traders actually withdrawing their funds for long term storage hence becoming speculators or are they leaving it on 3rd party exchanges?

-Original 0.xx wallet was very slow and almost impossible to use on slower computers.  This has been fixed in 2.0 with a very fast web socket based wallet.  Trades in ~3 seconds, fair for everyone.

I've had my head in crypto for a few years now and understand that real world usage will drive adoption, perhaps not even by the best technologically advanced "coin."  I do not understand the hatred between crypto followers in this space and why completely opposite projects need to be against one another.  In the real world, multiple chains will find their niche market.
2  Local / Ελληνικά (Greek) / Current state of blockchain technolgy in Greece? on: February 25, 2015, 08:21:18 PM
Can any citizens of Greece answer some of these questions?  I am curious to know how the people of Greece feel about Bitcoin and blockchain technologies.

-Has there been any guidance from the government on how Bitcoin is taxed and or regulated?  Is it legal to accept, trade, exchange?

-How are you purchasing and selling?  LocalBitcoins?  ATM?  Any physical exchanges or stores willing to accept/sell?

-With the large withdrawals of Euro from the banks, where is everyone putting their money?  Gold, silver, banks outside of the EU?

-Is anyone using the BitShares platform to protect against the declining value of the Euro?  For example purchasing BitUSD or BitGold?

5  Economy / Computer hardware / [FS] 2x HIS Radeon 7950 IceQ on: May 03, 2014, 02:32:43 AM
~6 months old used for mining PTS and never seen over 60c with less then 50% fan. These blower style cards are great, run cooler and quieter as they blow hot air out of your case. As you can see I also had a fan in the window, during winter, blowing cold air into the case!

$175/ea shipped within the US.

8  Economy / Computer hardware / [FS] 4x HIS IceQ Boost 7950 on: December 13, 2013, 12:18:00 AM
Mined with them for 2 months as they were delivered on October 14, 2013. Stock bios, not undervolted etc... always run below 70c and <75% fan. These perform great as they blow the hot air OUT of the case. Last pic shows how anal I am about temps, even though its been <10 degree's outside I have a fan blow cold air on them 24/7. Only reason for selling is I need a laptop.

I would prefer to sell either 2 or 4 at a time and will accept btc, ltc, or paypal. $750 shipped for two or $1500 shipped for all 4.

Just picked this up locally, took it out of the static bag and tested to make sure it posted.  Mint as could be!

Powercolor 6990 with Artic cooler - $400 shipped obo
Picked this up a week ago and while its a beast, I have decided to sit summer out and wait for 89xx series.  Includes the Artic dual fan 6990 cooler and stock heatsink.

My findings over the past week running 24/7

-This artic cooler keeps each gpu well under 68c @ 900 core, 775 mem, 70c vrm, 1.12v (switch in low voltage setting).
-The artic 2mm thermal pads for the vrm's were terrible so I replaced with two layers of 1mm pads (not optimal, but all I had).  This dropped the vrm temp from ~82c > 75c.  I added a small fan on top as see in the pic and this further drops the vrm's typically under 70c.  I would suggest replacing with quality 1.5-2mm pads which will further drop the vrm's well under 70c with good airflow.
-They will run 950 core stable at the low voltage setting however the vrm's would sit around ~78c and I did not want to run this 24/7 until I could replace the vrm thermal pads with proper 1.5-2mm as mentioned above.

2x reference 6970 $125/ea shipped or buy both and I'll include an Arctic heatsink/fan and an additional spare reference hsf! SOLD

1x Powercolor Single Slot AX6850 - $SOLD SOLD

Prefer paypal for these since were forced to use that for purchase of newer cards Sad  HOWEVER will consider btc...  A previous for sale thread for reference: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=155228.0 and you can also see my ebay feedback under Brekyrself.
12  Economy / Computer hardware / [WTB] 6950-6970 Stock reference cooler on: April 19, 2013, 05:03:54 PM

13  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / 6950 heatsink fitment on: April 10, 2013, 04:11:41 AM
I just picked up another reference 6950 with shaders unlocked however I can't get the new thermal paste to transfer to the heatsink.  Almost no transfer of paste telling me the gap is too large however I can't figure out for the life of me why this thing won't fit correctly.  I did put a 0.5mm thermal pad in however it needs ~10% more fan to keep the same temp as another 6950 with good paste!

Nothing looks warped and I tried every possible tightening procedure.  gpu first, backplate first, washers on the gpu mount for more pressure, nothing works.

What am I missing here, I can't believe something is not obvious and jumping out by inspecting the board/heatsink.
