1  Economy / Lending / Can someone please loan me $800 for a computer? on: July 20, 2013, 01:17:30 AM
I was in the middle of programming an iPhone app when my computer took a shit, this was back in February. I was making really good progress, but now I can't work on it because I need an Apple computer.

I'm getting fed up of not working on this, but I need $800 worth of Bitcoins to buy a new laptop on craigslist (since iOS apps can only be developed on Apple computers). I have a bond of about $2,000 waiting for me in a few weeks, but I want to work on the iPhone app now. I will return $850 (negotiable) worth of bitcoins to you for the risk and will give you the first $150 out of $300 of my profits once I release the iOS app (if I make any). So if I make $50 in the first week of release, I give you $25 etc until it goes up to $300 if that makes sense.

Keep in mind, lets make it easy and say Bitcoin is worth $100, and you give me 8BTC ($800), and when I get my bond money Bitcoin jumps up to $200, I will give you 4.25BTC ($850) back. Similarly, if the price instead drops to $50, I will give you 17BTC ($850) back.

Feel free to Google me, my name is Reed Weichler.

I have never done anything like this before and if anything seems sketchy feel free to ask.

EDIT: Since people keep asking about collateral, I'll save you guys the trouble and copypaste it here:

Alright, how about my What.CD account? It has about 100GB upload and 40GB download, donor status etc. and the ratio rules on there are such that you can go as low as a ratio of 0.10DL/UL, so if I scam you, you can literally download every single piece of music that has ever existed in FLAC and destroy the reputation I have on that site. I also am almost at the Elite user class, which gets about 4 invites per month, so you could just sell invites (worth $25 each) until I get banned. I'll even let you download a couple of albums as thanks for the loan.
2  Economy / Speculation / I believe the price has nowhere to go but down and here's why I think so. on: July 20, 2013, 12:17:46 AM
You see all these people saying how every year since its inception we have seen a 10 fold increase in Bitcoins price compared to USD.

The event during March of this year has pushed it into the media's spotlight, and now everybody and their grandmother knows about it. It's mainstream now. So why would it go up again? What other demographic could find out about bitcoin to create another spike?

Unless if western democracy collapses as we know it, the price of Bitcoin will steadily continue to go down, similarly to how Litcoins price spikes up and steadily goes down after every Mt. Gox rumor. It's happened before and it will happen again.

The other thing that could get bitcoin's price to go up is an actual, real, update to Bitcoin's software, like the scalability issues or shorter confirmations (none of this Litecoin bullshit where it's 4x as fast for a confirmation but 4x less secure). But we haven't seen a real update since its conception, and due to the nature of Bitcoin (decentralized) it's becoming harder and harder to update its software.

I honestly believe someone else is going to come up with a better crypto than BTC, the current infrastructure won't last.

I hope I'm wrong, though.
3  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / What kind of rig should I get if no electricity cost? on: June 06, 2013, 03:39:57 PM
Hey, so I found this (expensive) place to live that has a fixed-cost electricity. I initially didn't want to live there because of the price, but since the utilities are fixed-cost, I'm kind of considering it now.

I was wondering if anyone else has done this and I was wondering what the best kind of rig you could build for the cheapest to get the most amount of coins. I was hoping to net around $200/mo (with the cost of the rig taken into account) from this to offset the expensiveness of the apartment.
4  Other / Politics & Society / Best/worst places to be in the United States once the USD plummets? on: June 01, 2013, 03:39:12 AM
Since this is gonna inevitably happen in the next decade, this should be something we should at least be aware of. Where would you want to be if this happens, and where would you most definitely NOT want to be?

Gonna get the obvious ones out of the way first:
Wouldn't want to be in Washington DC.
Would want to be anywhere in the silicon valley, CA. (except for EPA and east San Jose)
5  Economy / Services / First person to fix my iPhone that's stuck in a boot loop gets 0.1BTC on: May 28, 2013, 11:46:16 AM
It's a 16GB iPhone 4S running iOS 6.0.0. I want to preserve the jailbreak, so any advice that has anything to do with restoring it to factory settings will be ignored.

Syslog is here: http://pastebin.com/raw.php?i=LxswTx6k

List of currently installed packages is here: http://pastebin.com/raw.php?i=PjxUrvc7

As you can see by the syslog, the phone is only on for about 2 minutes before turning off and back on again. This started happening when I uninstalled a couple packages

Let me know if you need anything else.

I already tried ilex r.a.t, by the way.

I'm pretty sure that's caused by these:

6  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Can someone please explain to me what ripple is and why I should care about it? on: May 22, 2013, 05:33:11 AM
I honestly can't understand how ripple is superior to Bitcoin and how it could potentially outpace it in the future. Could someone please explain this to me?

8  Other / Politics & Society / Satoshi Nakamoto is the libertarian party & Ron Paul will be president in 2016. on: May 07, 2013, 02:32:04 AM
I bet that the libertarian party hired some programmers to make a new currency. it's a conspiracy man.

Most Bitcoin holders are programmers, most programmers are libertarians. So once we get filty freaking rich off of bitcoin we're gonna donate all our coinz to ron paul, he will be president in 2016 cause the person with the most money wins and WE WILL HAVE ANARCHO CAPITALISM WOOOOOOO AUSTRIAN ECONOMICS FTWWWW
