2  Other / Beginners & Help / Is this bitcoin storage safe? on: March 21, 2013, 07:07:10 PM
1. I've set up Tails LiveCD on USB together with Truecrypt container consisting Armory and all needed *.deb packages.
2. Installed Armory.
3. Created new wallet named "Offline" and also created it's watch-only version. Both are crypted.
4. Imported watch-only wallet into online Armory.
5. OFFLINE WALLET NEVER TOUCHED ONLINE SYSTEM UNCRYPTED, its placed on Tails live USB in Truecrypt container.

Did i forget about something? Is this offline wallet now really safe? I feel strange my wallet never went online at all. Is it really good?

Forgot - i made copy of "Offline" wallet and stored it inside another TrueCrypt container, gonna make multiple copies. Also going to print paper copies.
3  Other / Beginners & Help / Can be encrypted virtual machine as good as real offline computer? on: March 20, 2013, 09:27:30 PM
I don't like idea of having another comp for offline wallet (I travel a lot).
I'm thinking about seting up Ubuntu on VMWare Player, that will be encrypted from inside, not just outer container which seems easier to break. Also connection will be turned off from inside.

Two questions:
1. When ill run this system ill have to put in pass phrase. If I have keylogger, this password will be logged. Can it be used somehow by trojan to decrypt or run and decrypt the virtual system?
2. When system is run and going, is it's image decrypted and vulnerable from host system?
4  Other / Beginners & Help / Security Test Fail? on: March 15, 2013, 08:33:16 PM
On Windows XP i've set up Bitcoin-QT 0.8, synched with network, encrypted the wallet.dat file.
I have status stating that the wallet is encrypted.
Now decided to make security test.
I copied the wallet.dat to pendrive while Bitcoin was run - and here first bad surprise. Why isn't it really locked???
Than i installed Bitcoin-QT 0.8 on another computer with Windows 7. Only instead of creating wallet i copied one from pendrive.
And another bad surprise. The wallet was opened without asking about passphrase and i has all access to my copied wallet!!!

So to me any child can write a virus that will copy and send to himself wallet.dat because the lock doesn't work AND/OR wallet is not really ciphered, than transfer all my bitcoins to himself.

I feel like i discovered America. WTF? Is there ANY security in Bitcoin, or i miss some point?
