Rootstock Announces Release of Ginger Testnet

RSK Labs has announced the open source release of their Ginger test network for smart contracts. Presenting at digital currency conference Consensus 2017, RSK promised to add smart contract functionality to the main bitcoin blockchain along with greater scalability and additional revenue streams for miners.

Rootstock’s smart contract network will feature a two-way cryptographic peg to the main bitcoin blockchain, providing a platform that can scale up to 2.000 tx/second on chain and 20.000 tx/second off chain. The core innovation of the Rootstock technology will be smart contract functionality. RSK Labs is intending on introducing a Turing-complete scripting language which will allow decentralized applications to be programmed on the bitcoin network.
22  Bitcoin / Project Development / Looking To Build A Block Explorer on: March 10, 2017, 08:34:54 PM
We are looking to create a bitcoin block explorer using bitcore.

Seeing that a full node would require around around 8GB of memory and about 200GB of disk space available to store the Bitcoin blockchain plus additional database information, we plan on building it on Amazon Web Services. We could then have an API that connects to the actual website.

We are looking for someone who has extensive experience operating a full node and preferably someone who has built a block explorer elsewhere.

The block explorer will be built on the homepage on www.diginomics.com.

If you are interested to know more, you can leave a comment here or send us a personal message.

Thank you.

27  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Bitcoin Has Redefined Money on: December 17, 2016, 07:11:04 PM
Bitcoin is a computer virus that will continue to spread until it is as socially accepted as email is today. In this post, I will explain not only why this rapidly expanding computer network has changed the paradigm on what defines money – but why the blockchain represents a historical image of the digital economy and provides a record of any past activity due to the nature of peer-to-peer timestamp verification.

29  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Bitcoin Will Kill The Income Tax on: December 06, 2016, 10:18:24 PM
As the age of cryptocurrency comes into full force, it will facilitate a subversively viable taxation avoidance strategy for many of the technically savvy users of peer-to-peer payment systems. In doing so, cryptocurrency use will act to erode the tax revenue base of national jurisdictions, and ultimately, reposition taxation as a voluntary, pay-for-performance function. In this post, I cover some of the benefits such a strategy will have for cryptocurrency investors, why our notion of taxation is ripe for disruption, and why cryptocurrency taxation is enabled by default.

33  Economy / Economics / Money As A Product Of Innovation on: October 02, 2016, 11:00:42 PM

When it exists in the private domain, money itself becomes a product of innovation. Unlike public, central bank controlled money, bitcoin and the emergence of cryptocurrencies shift the function of money to the private domain where the market demands continuous innovation. The power of choice given to the consumer by private money, allows users to choose which form of money to use in daily expenditures. This power of choice afforded to the consumer by way of a private cryptocurrency market, will enable a profound change in the way people view money and a higher overall quality of money.
34  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Is Bitcoin Sound Money? on: September 23, 2016, 09:55:16 PM
The bitcoin vs gold debate has raged on in investment circles since bitcoin has entered mainstream discussion among increasingly interested investors. Gold has been used as a form of currency and trade for thousands of years, and certainly has a track record for reliability and preservation of wealth. However, as the newcomer onto the scene, bitcoin may be the kind of financial and technological breakthrough to to challenge gold as the monetary kingpin.

Early on in its life cycle, seasoned investors began questioning the legitimacy of bitcoin value and debating how such a commodity could hold intrinsic value. What differentiates bitcoin from a mere collectible and what makes it similar to precious metal assets such as gold or silver? Among many circles, especially gold bugs and older-generation investors, bitcoin was not considered a valid investment up until very recently.

Which factors of bitcoin instill this validity of investment?

35  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Lightning Network Could Scale Bitcoin on: September 23, 2016, 09:52:20 PM
The days of near-instantaneous payment seem like something of the science fiction genre. Yet, recent undertakings in the bitcoin industry are working on solutions which may allow billions of transactions per second to be made in a model similar to the routing system employed by today’s internet infrastructure. If bitcoin is capable of scaling to billions of transactions per second by using this routing system, network scaling issues would no longer persist and a new velocity of money could empower considerable economic growth.

THE LIGHTNING NETWORK

One of the solutions currently in development for scaling the bitcoin network in order to accommodate more transactions is known as the Lighting Network. The Lightning Network proposal holds that millions or even billions of transactions could be made per second by routing payments through the blockchain rather than storing data for each individual change in ownership. With this type of payment infrastructure, parties could send transactions to each other without requiring every movement of money to be recorded in the bitcoin blockchain, potentially reducing the burden of current network payload.

The creators behind the lightning network, Joseph Poon and Tadge Dryja, envision a system where supernodes are charged with verifying large groups of transactions to the main bitcoin blockchain. These supernodes would act as “minimally trusted intermediaries” and be the custodians between the blockchain and lightning payment channels.

37  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Visualizing The Bitcoin Transaction on: September 22, 2016, 04:49:15 PM

When an individual makes a transaction on the bitcoin network, no actual currency is moved. That is, no file has moved. No commodity or asset has moved. No private or public key has moved. Rather, the only thing which changes is the percentage of the blockchain ledger which User A & B claim control over. When a transaction occurs in the realm of bitcoin, the image of the blockchain is altered. Nothing ever changes but the composition of this blockchain record.

The blockchain is a recorded snapshot of the bitcoin digital economy.

Money is now an image, rather than something which can be separated from the system itself. This image of money is being constructed, altered, and verified by the thousands of machines acting as miners across the globe, and it’s a composition on public display for all to see. The miners are the painters of this network composition. The users, the brush and strokes.
