1  Economy / Economics / With sound money in place (BTC, Gold,...) all consumer credit is gone on: February 09, 2017, 10:53:11 PM
Hi,
I was wondering, did anyone of you ever thought about that if there were only sound money in place such as (BTC, Gold,...) all consumer credit is gone (credit cards) that are now handed out like samples by drug dealers.

How many that you know would survive such wake up call? Not being able to finance themselves by debt but only with money on the table. I think at least half the medium and up sized businesses would go bust in 1 month, about individuals - really no idea...
2  Economy / Economics / What do you think should be the right Bitcoin price as of Februray 2017? on: February 07, 2017, 02:40:25 PM
Hi,
I'm really curious what in your personal opinion the price should be - where do you think we should be in means of adoption and infrastructure.

We currently have price of about $1000 per 1 BTC, do you consider it as about right, overvalued or undervalued in all and all?

Please vote and if possible please explain why you voted in this way below.

Thanks.
3  Economy / Economics / How much are you willing to pay in fees for a Bitcoin transaction? on: February 06, 2017, 12:28:57 AM
This poll came as an idea from a news post: Almost $1 Billion Worth of Bitcoins Stuck in Transaction Backlog - link here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1777803.0

How much are you willing to pay on daily basis in fees for a Bitcoin transaction that is cleared within 10 minutes? (1 block)

I hid the poll results until you voted so it's not biased - I'm really curious about this one - I ruled out "free" as I don't think it's possible anymore - no matter how big the block size is. Also I don't think anyone is willing to accept fees over $10 - it will be more expensive than the bank fees, so I made it 10+ USD.

Please vote and explain below why you voted the way you voted.

Thank you.
4  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / How is achieved consensus on code change? on: February 01, 2017, 05:47:47 AM
Hi,
please pardon my ignorance as I'm not a developer but my question is fairly simple - my understanding is that there is a repository with Bitcoin core code and a lot of people has access to it (dozens). If somebody commits some change (ie. improvement or fix) who confirms that the improvement or fix is propagated to all the end users? Is it one person? Is it by consensus? Does it have to be unanimous?

I'd like to receive comment from somebody who ever did a contribution to the Bitcoin code or really knows how it works.

Thanks!
5  Economy / Speculation / What the price would be if there is no Bitcoin scaling in next 5 years? on: January 31, 2017, 02:47:15 AM
First of all I'm huge BTC fan, had account here since 2013 and always been bullish - I don't want to draw any doom scenarios but seriously:

Where are we heading in next 5 years?

Some considerations:
1) We didn't even reach 28 % support and the support for SegWit is dropping already: https://blockchain.info/charts/bip-9-segwit?timespan=all
Who profits from this?

2) If SegWit is not implemented what will happen to BTC? Is it going to become an obscure payment method and only speculative store of wealth?
Apparently without SegWit there is no Lightning Network: https://www.cryptocoinsnews.com/segwit-lightning/

3) What happens once the block size of 1 MB is really maxed out? https://blockchain.info/charts/avg-block-size?daysAverageString=30&scale=1&timespan=all
My knowledge of economy points me to questions like - Are we going to pay $100 per transaction in fees in order to have it cleared in less than few hours/days? This is the end game of BTC miners? To make money on movement of the speculative asset?

4) Rising price of BTC is a pleasant thing and if you ask me today - I still consider it undervalued and it can probably go on par with Gold as it's easier to move around than Gold and cannot be confiscated by gov officials like gold but I guess that's it? So are we looking on: Gold market cap / total amount of non-lost bitcoins as maximum? So something like 400k USD per 1 BTC and that's it?
6  Economy / Speculation / Is trading on exchanges inflating the transaction volume? on: June 27, 2016, 11:16:56 PM
We all know that there are bots trading nonsense on the exchanges - making fake volume. But are those transactions actually going into Blockchain volume?

I mean how much of this: https://blockchain.info/charts/n-transactions?timespan=all&showDataPoints=false&daysAverageString=1&show_header=true&scale=0&address=

are bots trading? Since nobody probably has precise answer to this I put it in speculation.

Thanks for your opinions!
7  Economy / Speculation / Bitcoin is de-facto new asset class and Brexit confirmed it on: June 24, 2016, 08:34:14 AM
Hi,
I think Brexit confirmed that Bitcoin is de-facto new asset class and is in the same group with Gold - if you look at what Gold is doing (spikes most in 7 years, 27monhts heights) Source: http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2016-06-24/gold-spikes-most-7-years-27-month-highs.

Just in case you didn't notice - Bitcoin added 100 USD to its value in less than 12 hours (from 575 USD at 18:00 UTC to 675 USD 7:00 UTC the next day - Bitstamp).

If you say it's not connected with Brexit I don't buy it.

Opinions?
8  Economy / Speculation / What price is your exit point? 800/1200/10k/100k or 1M USD??? on: June 13, 2016, 02:43:28 PM
Hi everyone,
I was wondering - with BTC going up and up. What is your endgame? I saw a lot of topics with "should I buy?" "should I sell?".

Let's assume you bought in range of 100 - 700 USD, at what point are you going to sell large portion of it (75+ %)?

Poll is set to 28 days so it ends with halving: 10 Jul 2016.
9  Economy / Speculation / I think Bitcoin was designed to be (at least) 1M US$ per 1 BTC on: November 10, 2015, 08:59:06 AM
This is really just my speculation - but we are in speculation area so I will be happy if somebody post his findings as well.

The idea:
1 Satoshi is currently 0.00000001 BTC which is literally nothing in USD.

But try to multiply the 0.00000001 by 1 000 000 and you get to decent accounting number of 0.01 (https://www.google.com/search?q=0.00000001*1000000) which is 1 Cent.

Well we will not get to 1M USD per 1 BTC tomorrow (if ever) but I think it's safe to assume that by the time we get there nobody will care about 0.01 USD so it could be technically more than 1 M USD.

Also as far as I know it's not big deal to make Bitcoin divisible even further as long as there is consensus among developers and miners. But the original design 0.01 USD = 1 Satoshi I think is quite obvious and makes sense. While I don't consider myself anywhere near the mind that designed the original protocol I think even back then when Satoshi designed it I think this number came to Satoshi's mind.

What do you think?
10  Other / Meta / Troll directory on: May 05, 2013, 10:35:08 PM
I've been watching these forums for some time now (even though my registration is not that old) and I came to conclusion, that we have here a lot of folks who contribute with nothing useful and all they do is spreading Fear Uncertainty and Doubt (AKA FUD). Which is unfortunate but this is how some people are.

I have also noticed that a lot of people started saying "You made it to my ignore list".

So I thought instead of posting pictures like this:

 or

Every time in every topic started by a troll (or being hijacked by troll) and there have been plenty of them recently - especially in speculation sub-forums.

Please don't get me wrong - if there are bad news I want to hear about it as well, unfortunately some folks just post stuff based on nothing or something with very little impact.

Before you post here someone, please make sure to add link to a thread (or at best multiple threads) where he annoyed you so we know based on what you added him to the ignore list.

Maybe this will later help to build some feature to auto hide those with a huge rank for trolling.

Btw. even when I put folks into my ignore list from time to time I click "show" to see what he posted but mostly I have been right that it's just another garbage with intention of spreading FUD.

P.S. If you made it somehow to this topic and you think it's biased nonsense please defend yourself with a link to your constructive contribution to the community. Apparently some folks might be only temporary trolls  Cheesy

P.P.S. Trolls spamming this topic will be reported to moderators.
11  Economy / Trading Discussion / Does darkpool make any sense? on: May 02, 2013, 09:26:54 AM
I was wondering if darpool does make any sense - if I decide to sell on open market I would probably get better price than the one that is in the darkpool right?

What's the point of selling BTCs in darkpools?
12  Economy / Speculation / bitcoin ATM tomottow, Silk road under DDoS, price plummeting - coincidence? on: May 01, 2013, 07:12:30 PM
bitcoin ATM tomottow, Silk road under DDoS, price plummeting is it all coincidence?

I don't think so - to me it look like someone really wanted some coins with a discount before it goes to the moon.

Thoughts?

Edit: Proof for the BTC ATM tomorrow: https://bitcoinatm.com/
13  Economy / Economics / First PC game is using Bitcoin as the currency: Fallout 2 on: April 26, 2013, 02:04:10 AM
Ok it started as an idea posted by Gabi here.

So I thought - hey Fallout is ideal for Bitcoin!
For those who have no idea what Fallout and Fallout 2 is take a look at wiki.

Long story short:
Quote
Fallout is set several decades after a worldwide conflict brought on by global petroleum shortage. Several nations begin warring with one another for the last stores of non-renewable resources, namely oil and uranium. Known as the Resource Wars, fighting begins in April 2052 and continues until October 23, 2077. China invades Alaska in the winter of 2066, causing the United States to go to war with China and using Canadian resources to supply their war efforts, despite Canadian complaints. Eventually the US annexes Canada in February 2076 and reclaims Alaska 11 months later. After years of conflict, on October 23, 2077, a global nuclear war occurs. Nobody knows who strikes first, but in less than two hours most major cities are destroyed. The effects of the war will not fade for the next 100 years. As a consequence, human society has collapsed, and survivor settlements barely eke out a living in the now-barren wasteland, while a lucky few lived through the occurrence in underground fallout shelters known as Vaults.

So all considered Fallout is ideal environment for Bitcoin Wink

And several hours later... here we go:

14  Economy / Speculation / PayPal president regarding Bitcoin: "we're kind of thinking about it right now" on: April 24, 2013, 01:33:32 PM
In a video posted on Bloomberg:
http://www.bloomberg.com/video/paypal-sees-20-billion-in-mobile-transactions-WlokACTBRterdjHAJGNB6w.html
(skip to about 2:50)

he says:
Quote
And I think here, for us at PayPapl, it's just a question of whether Bitcoin will make its way to PayPal's funding instrument or not, and we're kind of thinking about it right now.

Big thanks to just1nmc for providing the link: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=186349.0

The question is:
Is it going to affect the price? Is PayPal going to be the next Kodak?

Once I read somewhere: "you know - the Internet is like the real life, though everything is like 7 times faster" somebody said that in 1995.

And I think it still applies. What do you think? Might Bitcoin cripple PayPal's current business?
15  Other / Off-topic / High resolution picture of Linux riding the bull? on: April 24, 2013, 12:50:05 PM
Hi,
I was wondering - do anyone of you have a link to high resolution picture of Linux riding the bull? There were also some other folks in the basket riding the bull but you get the idea....

I think I saw it in economics forum about two weeks ago?
16  Economy / Speculation / The Pirate Bay now accepts Bitcoin on: April 23, 2013, 05:39:57 PM
The Pirate Bay now accepts Bitcoin:
http://torrentfreak.com/the-pirate-bay-bitcoin-donations-130423/

The question remains - is it going to have any influence on its price?

(btw. other torrent sites added in reaction support for bitcoin as well)
