Quote
You are an user on the forum bitcointalk.org. You like cryptocurrencies. You just bought a Trezor to store your Bitcoin and need advice. What do you want to know?

1) How much does it cost to buy one of these devices? (The price is listed in BTC, but I'll be using USD for simplicity.

>

If you're not familiar with how to use Bitcoin, please read this first.)
2) Can I pay via credit card or PayPal?
3) Is there any way that I can get my money back if something goes wrong?

> You learn about the private key concept

Private keys are used to access your Bitcoins. They are really cool! The private key is the only thing that allows you to spend your coins. It's pretty important stuff.

> You gamble all your Bitcoin on a shady gambling website

This is risky. You could lose everything. But if you win, great! If you don't, well then what were you doing here anyway?

You decide to bet all your Bitcoin on a site called "Blackjack".

>

This is a game where you play against another player who has the same amount of chips as you. You will have to wager some of your Bitcoin before playing.

First, you make sure that you've got enough Bitcoin:

Then, click on the "Add"

> Wager 0.01 Bitcoin

It looks like this:

And it says "Your balance:"

Now, you wait. And wait...and wait...and wait...

> "What the fuck ?"

You look at the screen. There's nothing there. No amount of waiting seems to change anything.

So, you try again:

And again:

But still no luck. This is very frustrating!

>

Finally, you give up and go to sleep. When you wake up tomorrow morning, your balance will still be 0.00 Bitcoin.

Why am I losing so much money? Why isn't anyone winning?!?!?

> You write a thread on bitcointalk.org to cry you got scammed

Well, maybe you did get scammed. Maybe someone else was trying to scam you too.

Maybe they were going to send you $100 worth of Bitcoin and when you didn't show up for the payment, they would call the police and report that someone had stolen their Bitcoin from them.

> !The police doesn't care

The police might take your word over that of the person who lost the Bitcoin, but even if they do believe you, they won't be able to do anything because there's no law in place that protects people from each other.

2  Economy / Scam Accusations / [RESOLVED] Bitherium.cc not a full decentralized exchange - PrivKey leaks on: February 26, 2020, 03:56:03 PM
Resolved here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5228661.msg53954607#msg53954607
Archive of that thread: http://web.archive.org/web/20200303104953/https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5228661.0&all=
Archive of the official thread: http://web.archive.org/web/20200303105444/https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5226563.0&all=

tldr;
1. I accused them to send the users privatekeys to the server.
2. They goes to maintenance mode, then back online.
3. It seem they resolved the issue.

Accusation:
Bitherium claim to be a full decentralized exchange, but your private key and password are sent plaintext to the server.

Proof:
You can try by yourself, but here a screenshot of the XHR POST request when you create an account:

And when you want to unlock your wallet:

Obliviously, everything is managed server-side. A token is bind to you. It mean that your private key remain on the server somehow:

Other red flags:
  • Hidden team.
  • Very hard to verify the Seychelles Certificate of Incorporation.
  • Many low accounts are enjoying Bitherium on the main thread.
  • Hidden WHOIS.

3  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Speaking of Bitcoin to an AI on: February 13, 2020, 02:31:16 PM
I was playing around with a game "AI Dungeon" which is backed by a very powerful AI.
The results are often stunting.

I had some fun with Bitcoin, here is the result (in bold, it's me writing, all the other texts are generated by the AI).

( AI Dungeon: https://play.aidungeon.io/ )

Quote
You are a man. You want to mine Bitcoin to become rich. You bought 2 mining rigs and start mining. The only problem is you don't have enough money for the electricity bill, so you decide to sell some of your Bitcoins on an online exchange.

The price goes up and down with no real stability.

> You are waiting for your miners to find a block.

You wait patiently for your miners to find a block. It takes weeks but eventually one does. You spend the rest of your savings buying more mining equipment and continue to mine.

Eventually you get bored of this hobby and decide that it's time to retire from it all.

> You buy cryptocurrencies with your money.

Your retirement comes soon after when you realize that Bitcoin is worth way less than what you paid for it. You also discover that Litecoin and Dogecoin are currently in high demand as well.

Litecoins are worth $0.00 while Dogecoins are worth $1.

>

00. You decide to invest in both of them.

You're now invested in several altcoins which means you can't withdraw any of your money until they stabilize or at least reach their current value.

> You gamble on PrimeDice.

PrimeDice is a gambling site where you can bet on the outcome of various events such as the winning lottery numbers or whether someone will win a certain amount of money in a game. You've never gambled before, but if you play long enough, you'll probably lose money.

> !You lost all your Litecoin.

You lost all your Litecoins because you were betting too much on the odds. You lost $100 in a few hours.

> !Dogecoin price skyrocket WoW

You decide to try out Dogecoin instead. This is a joke right?

> You invest in a pyramid scheme.

You put all your money into a pyramid scheme. Your investment is worth nothing, because the company has been taken over by scammers who promise you a large return on your investments, but then just take most of it away from you.

> Cry.

You cry for days about how you feel like you've been robbed. Eventually, the scammer disappears and you're left holding worthless coins.

> Use a faucet to recover

You decide to use a faucet to recover your losses. The faucet gives you free dogecoins, so you start using it frequently. Soon, you have enough dogecoins to pay off your debt.

> Buy Bitcoin with your Dogecoin.

You buy Bitcoin with your Dogecoin. It's a good thing you did, because the price of Bitcoin increases dramatically.

> Buy a lambo.

You buy a lambo. The price of the lambo goes up, and you make a lot of money!

> Go to a conference to meet Faketoshi.

You go to a conference to meet Faketoshi. He says he wants to see you again, so you agree. When you arrive at his house, he tells you that there are some things he needs to discuss with you privately first...

> Ask Faketoshi to sign the genesis block.

You ask Faketoshi if he can sign the genesis block of Bitcoin. He agrees, and signs it for you. You both leave happy.

The last AI answer was enough for me Grin

5  Local / Échanges / Waves.exchange on: December 03, 2019, 08:48:03 AM

Last chance for cheap Waves ?
9  Other / Meta / Moderation on the alts forums on: September 01, 2017, 12:44:47 PM
Hello,

Seems like many threads are being locked on the Annoucements (Altcoins) forum because they are breaking the rules.
I can only admit that forum looks like a jungle because of the high activity, and require a strong moderation.

But I don't understand why the Waves thread has been locked (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1387944.0).

mprep, you gave that explanation:

Quote
Due to one of the in-thread bounties accepting entries via this thread (a.k.a. incentivising posting, a.k.a. altcoin giveaway), this thread is locked. There is zero tolerance for those breaking the "no on-forum altcoin giveaways" rule.

I don't think the OP and all the peoples from the Waves team broke that rule. Maybe some users does by posting.

So if I want a thread to be closed I just have to troll on it ?

I just think that 1 person to moderate all the Altcoins forums isn't enough, it's too hard to punish the guilties, but easier to close the whole thread.
