1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Mine in your browser for Hadron project on: February 11, 2018, 01:10:13 PM

Hadron project (https://hadron.cloud) enables you to run neural networks in your browser. These neural networks perform tasks like classification of images, determine content in an image etc.  When you signup to run a neural network on the official website, your browser is assigned a portion of the task to complete. Think of it as performing a small calculation in a large equation. In return for your computation (which is mining in this case) you get paid in Hadron tokens.

Hadron tokens can be used to request Machine Learning services from Hadron like image classification and identifying NSFW images. You can also hold the tokens or contribute to projects (https://hadron.cloud/dashboard/spend).

The project is open for alpha testing!

Head on to https://hadron.cloud to learn more and for instructions to signup for the alpha.
2  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Beware of mining scripts that mine crypto using your browser on: October 20, 2017, 09:09:16 AM
For quite some time attempts have been made to use PCs of unsuspecting people to mine crypto currency. Now, a simple javascript service from Coinhive (https://coinhive.com) makes mining from web browsers as simple as a few clicks. Currently the script uses your browser to mine for Monero.

To block such attempts use the extensions below:

a) AntiMiner (https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/antiminer-1-coin-minerblo/abgnbkcdbiafipllamhhmikhgjolhdaf (AntiMiner - #1 Coin Minerblock))
b) minerBlock (https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/minerblock/emikbbbebcdfohonlaifafnoanocnebl (minerBlock))

3  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Phishing attempt on your Ether wallet via Slack and other communication channels on: October 05, 2017, 09:53:03 AM
I got this scam message on slack:

Quote
=== MYETHERWALLET UPGRADE REQUIRED ===

*HARD FORK FINAL NOTICE*

This message was shared to all Slack users in the hope of reaching as many Ethereum Wallet holders as possible.
Due to the Hard Fork that will be happening in the following days, all ethereum wallets require to be manually upgraded immediately, otherwise they risk being unprotected and your funds may be lost during the fork process.

Please visit https://www.myetherwallet.com/?upgrade#view-wallet-info to upgrade your wallet to latest security settings.

We decided to implement a number of changes and improvements, including higher levels of anonymous transactions, easier programming and smart contracts, and additional security in the form of masking, which will help protect users against hacking.

We are taking these measures to protect both you and our network from phishing and malicious attacks.

Thank you for your cooperation and understanding!
MyEtherWallet, LLC”.

This is a SCAM. The myetherwallet url which looks valid, links to this website (https://www.xn--myetherwaet-15ba.com/?upgrade#view-wallet-info). The UI of this phishing website is the same as that of myetherwallet.

Original website:
Fake website:

Always check for "MYETHERWALLET LLC [US]" cetificate (marked as 1 in the original screenshot). This certificate detail is missing in the fake website.
Don't click any links you get on channels like slack etc.
Be very careful when uploading/entering your private key/wallet backup on any third party services.
