41  Economy / Trading Discussion / Investing Urge or Trading Surge on: April 29, 2021, 02:39:02 PM
So I am in a situation where I have found a potential project I can invest in for the long term and gain huge profits.
At the same time the current market seems the correction is over and another bull run might start.

I am having an urge to invest all that I can in the potential project I like but it is also a good time to diversify the portfolio and trade some nice coins to gain short term profits.
What would you guys do if you were in such a situation ?

@mk4
how long you're planning on holding
I can hold very long. Let's say 15 years or so.

what your other investments are(inside and outside crypto)
BTC and ETH
Little amount in Mutual Funds

what your asset allocations are
Not sure how would I describe that

what your trading strategies are
More of swing trading. Buy the dip, wait for a good price to sell (time doesn't matter)

what your risk appetite is, and how much money you can afford to lose
I can afford to lose not more than 25%
42  Other / Beginners & Help / Bitcoin Full Node on Raspberry Pi 400 on: April 26, 2021, 05:03:16 PM
I am a passionate tech enthusiast and for some reason I like buying tech gadgets. While the rest of my fellow mates are into cars and motorbikes, I am into laptops and desktops.
This craze drove me to purchase an ever wanted Raspberry Pi. I looked into the latest one and bought a Raspberry Pi 400.
At first I thought of using it as a web server and browsing stuff but the moral bitcoiner in me got awake.
I am now running a bitcoin full node on my Raspberry Pi 400 and below are the details how I set it up.

I purchased a full kit of Raspberry Pi 400 for $120
I had to buy a monitor separately and bought an LG 22 inch monitor for $115
For the bitcoin full node I bought a WD 1.5TB HDD for $55

So the total cost of the whole setup was $290
I bought it in India and used a conversion rate of 1USD = 75 INR

And the setup looks like this

Beginners : This can be your side project if you an afford this investment (you can reduce cost on the monitor and HDD). This is fun!
43  Economy / Trading Discussion / RIP Stocks on: April 24, 2021, 04:37:24 PM
RIP

Now I am not sure whether what I have done was good or bad but I think it's high time now and I should have done it already.
I just sold ALL my stocks and have decided to go all in and trade crypto. I won't be asking which crypto to invest in because I have my own choices already.
It's obvious that the amount of profit in crypto is much more than stocks. At least that's what I have experienced with 2 years of trading stocks.
Although I earned a little profits I think I could have made those profits in a very short time in crypto.
Hence I just sold all my stocks 2 days back and waiting for the funds to get to my bank account.

I will be using all those funds and invest in some coins I have decided to invest in and then see how much profits I make in crypto.
All the best to guys who are here and surviving. Keep going on. We are here for the long run.
44  Bitcoin / Mycelium / Why is Mycelium always so High ? on: April 19, 2021, 05:08:46 PM
Recently I was making a transaction with many small inputs. There were around 30 inputs and 1 output address for the transaction.
The total fees displayed by Mycelium was around $95 and I was like WTF. I was blaming the congested bitcoin network when I noticed that transactions are getting confirmed even at lower fees. Consulting a friend of mine I decreased the fees totaling to $17 and broadcasted the transaction to the blockchain.
Boom ! Within next 15 minutes the transaction was confirmed (2 confirmations). I wish I had consumed lesser fees than that but was happy at the same time to save $78.
So why does Mycelium shows the fees as so high when it can be confirmed in 15 minutes with a lower fees itself.
45  Local / India / Would you sell BTC for real estate ? on: April 03, 2021, 05:11:38 PM
I will keep this short and simple.

So I have got this really good opportunity to buy a plot in my hometown. The value for it is bound to increase in near future as per the locality and developments around it.
To buy it I would have to sell my BTC (not all but most of it). The question here is, would you sell your BTC given you were in such a situation ?

If not, why? (something other than speculation)
46  Local / Marketplace (India) / [WTS] Raspberry Pi 400 on: March 15, 2021, 04:34:35 PM
I had bought a Raspberry Pi 400 Full kit recently. I had opened it to see if it's working and I used it twice.
Now I want to sell it because I want to buy something else.
I bought it for 9000 Rs and I am willing to sell it minimum for 7000 rs.
If anybody is interested then reply me here on in PM.

Courier charges should be paid by you. Indian Post takes less charges and should be convenient.

47  Local / India / Hope for tomorrow. Vote for tomorrow. on: March 04, 2021, 04:00:56 PM
As bitcoin rallies upward we can see a huge number of people showing interest in crypto. With the rise of crypto community, people are diving in to join the race to become a crypto activist. While this is globally increasing the number of people adopting crypto I want to see how much we Indians are fascinated about it.
Here is a poll which would help us know what majority of us are interested in. You have two votes to cast in. Choose wisely and nicely  Grin

Request everyone who reads this post to join the poll and show how you are interested in crypto.
48  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Faketoshi's new attempt to attack bitcoin on: February 26, 2021, 02:26:14 PM
Another preposterous act from Mr. Faketoshi (Craig Wright) has been on the internet today and this time he is attacking the bitcoin core developers but in vain.
He allegedly claims that bitcoin core developers are to be held responsible for the $5 billion worth of bitcoins he claims to be stolen in Feb 2020.
Anybody with their right minds will never try to sue the developers of an opensource project for something which usually happens by their own mistakes.
But here we go again, Craig Wright has gone nuts again for his cheap ideology and attempts to attack bitcoin.
He believes it will create new implications on how bitcoin operates and it's users. I wonder how low can he fall just to attack bitcoin again and again.

More info at : Craig Wright demands that ‘Bitcoin developers’ return him $5 billion in BTC

P.S : The article also highlights that Craig Wright has admitted through his lawyers that he was the guy to steal 80k BTC in the Mt.Gox hack.
49  Local / India / Whats happening with Binance/WazirX on: February 24, 2021, 03:57:44 PM
I am a member in the Wazirx Telegram group and while reading one of the announcements today I saw the people commenting on the announcement.
Most of the members were complaining about how their deposits were not credited to their accounts and calling WazirX and Binance a scam.

I was really astonished to find out so many people complaining about the deposits recently. Some people said their deposits were not credited since 10 days.
Few had problems with their withdrawals and some had KYC issues. Many said that folks at WazirX support were not very supportive.

I really thought WazirX is the best exchange till date but I guess things are turning around these days.

Below is a screenshot of people complaining about their issues.

50  Local / India / Did you guys hear about the Indian Crypto Bank on: January 01, 2021, 02:43:33 PM
I was reading some articles when I stumbled upon this article where it said that Unicas, an Indian Crypto Bank has been launched and is about to roll out 14 branches in India.
They would be offering traditional banking services along with buy/sell crypto, exchange crypto to INR and getting loans against crypto through a single account.
The bank claims to open around 100 branches by 2022. Seems like they do have a plan. It would be good if these guys don't turn it into a scam  Huh

Well it does seem like something good but the probability of scam is always a risk.
Besides that it’s a joint venture between Indian online crypto banking platform Cashaa and United Multistate Credit Co-op Society.
We all know Cashaa was recently hacked. So I would definitely advise to do a thorough research before trusting this so-called crypto bank.

51  Local / India / Video Sources for Beginners on: January 01, 2021, 02:13:30 PM
Youtube is a great source for videos and a lot of people on Youtube give out knowledgeable videos which many users find helpful.
I haven't seen many people posting links to video sources here and I think there needs to be a thread Indian beginners can refer to for crypto related content.
Below is a list of videos on Youtube which I think can be useful for native Indians to enhance their knowledge on crypto and blockchain.
These videos do provide a little technical aspects but don't rely on them heavily and beginners should do their own research to get detailed understanding of these concepts.
Also, I am in no way affiliated to any of these videos and just posting it here for people to get a basic grasp on how bitcoin and blockchain works.
I will be updating the list quite often based on the response this thread gets.

Note : Few videos might have a few points which are misleading. So do a good research to get detailed information on the topics.
These videos are just for basic understanding on how the terminology works.

52  Bitcoin / Project Development / Actual bitcoin price tool on: December 27, 2020, 08:56:27 AM
Hello guys,

Today I have created a python program which displays the actual bitcoin price for a particular country for the specific year.
This is more of a fun project for me and created this program just to learn good stuff. I wish to create more such tools which might be useful for the crypto community.
As of now I haven't hosted it on any platform but may be host it if I get good feedback from you people. Do let me know what you feel about it and thoughts and suggestions to how can I improve it further.

It's quite a basic program which takes the inflation rate of a given country for a specific year as an input and then calculates the actual price of bitcoin.
A list of countries is displayed to the user and then the user has to enter the country name and the year for which he wants to calculate the price of bitcoin.
An API call then gets the inflation rate for the country for the given year.
Then the user is asked to enter the price of bitcoin. I could have automatically fetched the current price of bitcoin through API but then thought what if the user doesn't want the current price.
So the user is asked to enter the bitcoin price manually. Once entered the actual price of bitcoin is displayed as output to the user.

Example output :

Kindly drop your suggestions.

53  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Received my first product purchased through bitcoin today on: December 21, 2020, 02:34:59 PM

So I just received my first product today which I purchased entirely through bitcoin. This made me so much happy today as I bought something (an actual product) and made the payment in bitcoin.
Citadel21 is a bitcoin magazine and I have got the volume 3. I made a purchase on Oct 27 and received the magazine today on 21 Dec which is almost 2 months but yeah it got delivered.
Citadel21 didn't even ask for any details other than shipping address (not even a registration on it's website) and accepted bitcoin payment.

I paid 0.0016 BTC ($21 on that day) which is now worth $36 but who cares. It's the USD that's fluctuating.
0.0016 BTC on that day is still 0.0016 BTC today and that is how I value my purchase.

To be honest, this is my first product which I got delivered from an international address. They delivered it from Finland.
This my first magazine I ever bought.
This book has the right message on it's cover i.e. HODL which is so accurate as of today while bitcoin is creating an ATH almost everyday.

I have used bitcoin to make purchases before but it was in an indirect way. I used to exchange bitcoin for fiat and then buy products with it.
The first time I bought something with bitcoin was back in 2017. I had bought a powerbank through my bitcoin earning. Had to exchange them for fiat though.
It made me so much happy to be able to buy something on my own that day. Bitcoin gave me the ability to buy many things on my own later.

I got the same feeling of happiness today. A sense of freedom from fiat is what I actually felt and it was truly an amazing feeling.

For people who might be interested to buy this

54  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Why not use Chainanalysis to see your privacy score on: December 12, 2020, 02:45:14 PM
I don't know if it already exists but why can't we use chainanalysis technique to see if our privacy score is good or bad.
I did try using a chainanalysis once on some website but it was paid (seems that it was earlier free) . Why can't there be a free one now ?

How to achieve it ?

We can have a website or tool that performs chainanalysis on a particular bitcoin address and gives the output as a rating from 1 to 10 (bad to good) and 'may be' also list the connected addresses.
We can have the option whether we want to list the connected addresses or not.

Now comes the question that what if people use it wrongly and input someone else's bitcoin address to see their connected addresses.
For this we can use a signed message with specific format so that the website/tool can verify that we own the bitcoin address and are not using someone else's address.
The format could be something like this

The website/tool can display a message "'short message' + current time + OTP generated at that time(valid for few minutes)" - we should be signing the message with this format only
This way people won't be able to use old  signed messages of other people to wrongly use their bitcoin addresses.

If our privacy score is good then no worries but what if our privacy score is real bad ?
I only one way to overcome this solution and that is to use mixing services. Can anybody else suggest some good methods ?

55  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / [POLL] How many of you have not "bought" bitcoin but still hold it on: December 05, 2020, 02:41:07 PM
I have seen many people here on this forum who have never actually bought bitcoin including myself.
We are the guys who love bitcoin deeply and have explored different ways to accumulate bitcoin.
I have tried to acquire as much bitcoin(Satoshis actually, never accumulated a whole bitcoin  Cry  ) as I can and then traded it to increase my portfolio.
The poll results won't matter much but it might motivate some people to find ways to accumulate bitcoin too.
Also, it would be fun to see how many people are there who belong to same category.
Most probably these would be the early users who would fall in this category (not necessary though)
56  Economy / Scam Accusations / [SCAM] Beware Instagrammers on: December 03, 2020, 04:05:29 PM
Recently I have been receiving a lot of friend requests on Instagram. I did a little searching and found that all of these are associated with some or other crypto related firm.
Upon digging up a little I noticed that these people started following me because I had followed some crypto related pages on Instagram.
These people follow you and then persuade you to invest in their firms. I did a little chatting with 2 people and got to know that they are up to convincing people to invest in their platforms.
Their so called platforms are nothing but HYIPs(High Yield Invest Programs) which does nothing but guarantee you high returns and then run away with your money.
So I wanted to bring this up here since Bitcoin is at a bull run and as many newbies join the crypto community they need to be aware of such SCAMS.
Please don't fall for HYIPs. All of them are fake and will probably run away with your hard earned money.

During a chat with one of them they said mining and trading are the same thing  Grin These people don't even know the difference between mining and trading yet are shilling about their crypto earning platforms LMAO  Grin
These are the screenshots.

57  Economy / Games and rounds / Negative Streak Contest | 0.001 BTC up for grabs on: November 29, 2020, 05:04:50 PM
Hello everybody,

I love playing multiplier (crash) games. I had started my journey with bustabit and later moved to gambling sites such as Roobet, Duelbits, BC.GAME etc...
Often while playing I faced many negative streaks. I used to feel like how Joey from friends feels (i.e, Why God Why, we had a deal  Grin )
So  I wanna see if others are as unlucky as me  Grin But hey if you are, there's a little gift from me to you.  Shocked
This is the first time I am launching a gambling contest and it's something different I believe. I will be paying the winner out of my pocket so don't expect a huge amount Tongue
I am in no way affiliated to any of the sites mentioned on this thread and this contest is just for fun. So participate in it for fun and forgive me for any mistakes .

Negative Streak Contest

The person with longest negative streak wins the contest and gets 0.001BTC

Your bet should be equal to or more than 2.00x
If you win any of the bets you will lose the sequence.
Your negative streak will increase if you keep losing bets with game crashing at <= 1.99x

Example :

Crashing 14 times in sequence.

You guys can suggest me what rules should be added/modified to make it more fun.
I have seen @Danslip, @bitinity, @Harkorede winning multiplier bets with highest multipliers  Shocked
Let's see if you guys also face the longest negative streak Embarrassed

Although there are basically 3 major types of bitcoin addresses as we all know, they can be further derived as below and I got to know this today when I was surfing the internet on crypto articles. I stumbled upon one and was quite surprised to see there are so many prefixes for bitcoin addresses. Below is the full list of bitcoin address prefixes. 59  Other / Beginners & Help / Beginner's Guide to CoinJoin on: November 03, 2020, 05:48:13 PM
Hello guys,

Lately, I came across  the word “CoinJoin” quite a few times and I wondered what it is. So I thought to do a little research to find out what it actually is and how it works. I read a few articles but was only able to understand the high level context of CoinJoin. So I decided to spend some time on it and understand it well enough to create a beginner’s guide so that any person who reads it knows what it is and how it works. I have tried to make this guide as simple as I can to make it beginner friendly.

Introduction

As we all know, a bitcoin transaction consumes one or more inputs and creates one or more outputs. These outputs are the UTXOs (Unspent Transaction Output) which becomes the input of the next transaction. A standard bitcoin transaction may spend many inputs to get enough value to make the intended payment and this often leads to creating ‘change’ output which goes back to the sender’s address as an unspent output. All of these are visible on the blockchain and any person can look into these transactions to find out the amount that was transferred from one address to another.

Bitcoin addresses are pseudonymous which means privacy can be compromised through reuse of these addresses. This is why it is advised to use a new address every time we make a new transaction. Over the years Blockchain analysis techniques have grown increasingly sophisticated and are capable of linking addresses to identities more efficiently. This is where “CoinJoin” provides a privacy efficient way of making transactions.

CoinJoin was first introduced by gmaxwell (Gregory Maxwell) in 2013 in his post “ CoinJoin: Bitcoin privacy for the real world “. CoinJoin doesn’t require any softfork because it does not require any changes to the bitcoin protocol.

What is CoinJoin ?

CoinJoin is a technique where multiple participants combine their coins into one large transaction consisting of multiple inputs and multiple outputs (including change outputs). Here, an observer cannot determine which output belongs to which input. This makes it difficult for anybody to determine which participant was making a particular transaction. CoinJoin can be applied many times and as many transactions can be grouped together to make it more privacy efficient.

People use Coin Join to protect their privacy and / or anonymity but the level of anonymity they get at the ends will depend on 2 main factors:

  1. How they mix their coin with Coin Join transaction (big or small anonymity set)
  2. How they use their received coin after the Coin Join transaction (coins post-mix)

  • The larger the anonymity set, the better
  • The less times you post-mix your coins, the better.
  • In case you decide to post-mix your coins, please only mix exactly the amount of UTXOs you want to spend from, not post-mix all UTXOs you get from Coin join transaction.
  • Ideally, use each post-mix UTXO for each of your sending transaction

Example

Here, the anonymity set is the size of the privacy group.  I could have explained more on the anonymity set but it will be too technical for a beginner friendly guide. The last 3 transactions are the change output from the 3 inputs. There is no way to determine which transactions from the anonymity set belongs to which input. The only thing an observer can know is that one of the output from the anonymity set is derived from one of the inputs thus increasing the privacy.

How to get started ?

The only two production ready platforms are Wasabi wallet and Joinmarket.
Wasabi is an open-source, non-custodial, privacy-focused Bitcoin wallet for Desktop, that implements trustless CoinJoin.
JoinMarket is a CoinJoin implementation aimed at improving the privacy and fungibility of bitcoin transactions.

Tip

One input per bitcoin address would be efficient to use for a CoinJoin transaction as reusing the same address damages the privacy. You can consolidate all your small inputs to create one bigger input. LoyceV has created a beautiful thread for this.
[Oct 2020] Fees are low, use this opportunity to Consolidate your small inputs!

60  Economy / Gambling discussion / Lost more in the process to recover ? on: October 21, 2020, 10:38:01 AM
I guess this would have happened with the most of us ain't it ?

The other day I lost a few $ gambling on Roobet. My luck was so bad that day that when I thought of gambling a little more so that I recover the lost funds I lost more than 3 times the amount I lost earlier  Grin Grin Eventually I just quit the game and didn't play it again for 2 days. This is too obvious for any gambler and everyone can relate to this feeling.

What you guys do when such a thing happen with you ?

P.S : I did play the game again after a few days and recovered some of the $. But this time I quit the game while I was in profit.  Tongue

P.P.S : I was conscious while I was trying to recover the lost funds and I tried only till that point where I can't afford to lose anymore. I always keep in mind the amount that I can afford to lose.
