1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Bitcoin Cash and Gold. Is it too late to take part of the fork? on: June 07, 2019, 08:45:17 PM
Hi dear people.

Because it did sound scary and complicated, I did not take part of the forks to Bitcoin Cash and Bitcoin Gold, with the few bitcoins I bought long time ago.
Now I wonder, if it is too late to do it.

And: how complicated it is to do so.
Or: where to find an explanation for an old lady. I am an old lady Smiley

Thanks!

2  Other / Beginners & Help / Getting confused with wallets... on: December 11, 2013, 11:27:36 AM
Hi dear people,

I understood how to put btc on a platform for trading and getting it back on my computer wallet (electrum).
But I don't understand how to handle more than one wallet on one computer.

I cannot find in electrum or any other wallet software (how do you call these apps all together?)  where to set which wallet you want to use, how to create a new one, and how to switch from one wallet to one another!

Right now I have a wallet, coded with paraphrase. Created with electrum.
I also have bitcoin-QT but I feel insecure about opening it and getting a mess because I don't know what would happen then. (Is the wallet from electrum gonna be switch to QT or automatically a new one created?)
At the same time I'd like to spread my little savings on 2 wallets instead of one...

How does this all work???
THANKS!!!!
3  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Google Authenticator on a smartphone on: November 19, 2013, 02:13:22 AM
Hi dear people!

I'm using the Google Authenticator on a smartphone to secure my account on bitcoin.de
On MGox, I could also use the same system, but I wonder if this is possible?

When I look in my smartphone, it stands "bitcoin.de" and I cannot see any option to select another site.
As I installed this a while ago, the question might be stupid, but I'm worrying that IF I use the Authenticator for MGox, I will not be able to use one of the both platfoem.

Anybody here having experience with the use of Authenticator for different website?

Thanks for your reply!

4  Bitcoin / Electrum / Electrum stucked on synchronizing - unexperienced user on: November 15, 2013, 05:38:20 PM
Hi dear people,

electrum 1.7.2 is stucked on synchronizing.
Restarting the application or the computer will not help.

I know there is an update 1.9.4 but I can't find any "update" menu.
Is it the problem anyway?

Please, if you give me advice, consider that I'm quite an older lady with not much experience!

Thank you very much for your help!

6  Other / Beginners & Help / Ubuntu bootable USB flash drive for OSX on: April 15, 2013, 07:12:33 PM
HI dear people,

I tried a lot to make a Ubuntu bootable flash drive for my macbook pro (Lion) in order to have an offline wallet, but it just doesn't work...

-Download the Ubuntu.iso and followed these instructions:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jtc8fpCt-P0
The USB stick was not recognized... and not bootable.

- discovered that unetbootin can create a USB Stick with a mac but it will only boot on a PC. Installation worked perfectly, the last sentence of the installation was : will not boot off a mac :-(

Read many discussions but couldn't find any solution.

So, Mac users, how do you do?
- Is there any software similar to unetbootin for creating a Ubuntu flash Drive bootable on a mac?
- Did you use another system as Ubuntu who would allow a bootable flash drive?

Any idea?
Thanks a lot,
Neo

7  Other / Beginners & Help / Which client you prefer for a safe wallet -offline on bootable usb flashdrive - on: April 15, 2013, 03:33:21 PM
Hi dear people,

Which client you prefer for a safe wallet -offline on bootable usb flash drive with ubuntu -?
Does it matter at all?
I'm hesitating between electrum and bitcoin-Qt, I read informations about it - https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Clients- but didn't really understand what that all mean. So, I'm still undecided.

Thanks for your thoughts!

8  Bitcoin / Electrum / electrum to another client on: April 15, 2013, 01:55:26 PM
Hi dear people,
there is something I'm a bit confused about.

1-If you have a client on one computer and download another client. Will the wallet.dat be recognized or replaced?
In other words:
---> what happened if you have 2 different btc clients on one computer?
---> Can you have 2 wallets on one computer?

2-If you use electrum as a client (not using wallet.dat but electrum.dat) and install another client can, what happened?
---> Can you open the electrum wallet in the new client
---> Are you creating another wallet?

I guess I'm missing some simple stuff, but I don't know exactly what!

Thank you very much for helping me to get some clarity about these questions!

9  Other / Beginners & Help / Create new user on mac in order to have a secure wallet- does it makes sense? on: April 06, 2013, 10:57:15 PM
Hi dear people,

a friend of me told me that making a new user on my computer, which would be used only to be a place for a bitcoin client and a new wallet, could be a way to have a secure wallet. He works on Linux, but I'm on a mac, so it is not the same security systems.

So, if you have another user on a mac (fresh one) does the possible viruses on the main account affect the other user?

I tried the option with Ubuntu but didn't understand it, so for now I gave up. That's why I'm looking for another method.

What do you think?

Thanks,
Neo
10  Other / Beginners & Help / General question about mining on: April 01, 2013, 05:22:46 PM
Hi dear people,

is it so, that for mining btc you need a desktop PC with Linux installed? It is not working on a macbook isn't it?

It is an absolute hypothetical question because I hardly understand the principle, so I guess mining is reserved for computer freaks.

That gives me this strange after taste, that if btc become the normal money, people who have no computer knowledge (or no computer at all!) will end up under the bridges and the world will be ruled by computer freaks... until the moment where electricity collapses...

I'm not extremely stupid with computers but obviously see this btc world to be highly complicated. I understand about 1% of the posts here and wonder how much my parents would. Probably nothing!

Greets!

11  Other / Beginners & Help / adresses on: April 01, 2013, 04:48:43 PM
Hi dear people,

I bought half of a bitcoin with cash from a friend with my phone-> one address
I wanted to have a wallet on my desktop pc -> another address was automatically created with Bitcoin-Qt
I checked the site bitcoin-24 to see how to buy btc -> they gave me another address, which is not the one on my PC

That is really confusing!
If I buy a btc on bitcoin-24, it is not on my Bitoin-Qt Wallet, nor on my phone.
How do you handle that??

By the way, the aspect that bothers me with btc, is that it is really COMPLICATED for people like me who are not computer freaks. So it is not as "democratic" as it is said.

Thanks for your response,
Neo
12  Other / Beginners & Help / little snitch on: March 31, 2013, 04:24:08 PM
Hi dear people,

absolutely new in the forum.

I wanted to start a wallet on my computer with Bitcoin-Qt to put on my main computer the 0,50 btc I bought from a friend with my smartphone, and actually see how it works.

Little snitch is installed. Why the first request from little snitch I thought OK, must be needed to work, but then came another, another, another... I started to wonder why so many addresses needed to go into my computer and quit the software.

- When little snitch installed, do you have to permit or to deny the connections coming in? Why so many???
- Is this Wallet already spoiled and if yes, how to delete it and create a new one?
- What does it means when I see by Bitcoin-Qt "synchronize with Network"?
- I read the thread about creating a safe wallet. Is it already too late as soon as you installed Bitcoin-Qt on your computer?
- Do you get one wallet address as soon as you starts Bitcoin-Qt and is it possible to change it?

Thanks for your replies!
Neo
