1  Economy / Trading Discussion / Ways to buy bitcoin online, incl fees, % markup etc on: March 30, 2020, 07:00:10 AM
Howzit Guys

So I have primarily used localbitcoins.com to purchase BTC, but currently (in my region at least) the prices are extremely inflated (6%-22%). I know there are hundreds of posts on this same topic but there is still not a clear answer and I am hoping the community can help me build a definitive list.  FYI - I am based in South Africa. Basically I just want to know what is the cheapest way to bitcoin online.

I want to find out where is the most affordable place to buy bitcoin online. Including fees, limits, markup, time delay etc. From my findings so far:

1. Coin base
Fees:3.99%
Markup: Not sure
Limits: Depends on the account level.
BTC wallet transfer out fee: none

2. Bitstamp
Fees:5%
Markup: Not sure
Limits: Not sure
BTC wallet transfer out fee: 0.0005 BTC

Feedback will REALLY be appreciated!!

2  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Getting into Mining: Hopefully simple answer to simple q on: July 04, 2017, 06:40:27 PM
OK so its pretty obvious I can't use my macbook to mine... (alt or BTC)... SO:

What exactly do I need to start mining (BTC or ALT coin recommendations welcome).

Do I need to buy a pre-made (and prob over-priced rig)?

Can I build a rig myself? (I have alot of friends in the hardware dept)?

That being said, not wanting to spend a fortune, and dont really care about $ return on investment (wont be running multiple miners), but want to make some coins.

In your recommendation/suggestion/advice/potential-insult-about-me-being-a-nube please also let me know realistically how many coins I can expect to gain a month.

FYI: NOT INTERESTED IN CLOUD MINING.

Really hoping for some helpful advice! thanks guys
3  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Alt coin mining on macbook pro i7? on: July 04, 2017, 05:36:41 PM
Guys, I'm thinking of trying to mine some alt coins on my macbook pro (late 2013) retina i7 before I invest in actual hardware... What would you suggest in terms of coins, software, and pools... Not expecting to mine a massive amount of coins or profit much... just want to get some coins to see the process and if viable. BUT... also don't want to kill my macbook haha... any advice would be great! Thanks guys
4  Bitcoin / Mining / 4,5 hash rate... correct? or not configured properly? on: July 20, 2013, 06:44:25 AM
Guys this is a duplicate, but think i posted it in the wrong section.

I just started mining with slushy's pool.

I'm using a dell vostro v3560 intel core i7-3632qm (2.2ghz)
8192mb (2x4096) 1600mhz Ddr3 Dual Channel

32gb Ssdr Msata Full Card + 1tb Serial Ata

Amd Radeon Hd 7670m 1gb Discrete Graphic Card Wlan + Bt Ba

I'm using GUIminer and currently getting 4.5 hash rate... Does that make sense? I was expecting a bit more to be honest. Or have I not configured it right?

6  Economy / Service Discussion / So Aurumxchange has gone bang! Surprise surprise! on: June 21, 2013, 05:22:44 AM
With the large price difference in BTC between MtGox and Bitstamp (and I see this getting much bigger and quickly), I was looking at some ways of transfer BTC to MtGox, Selling it, and getting the USD back to BitStamp so buy back and make a couple of coins, so went to check out Aurumxchange and bang, as of today they are "discontinuing operations"...

Personal opinion... matter of time before MtGox goes bang too. Right now just have to figure out how to take advantage of this massive gap!
7  Economy / Speculation / Bitstamp vs mtgox vs volatility on: June 03, 2013, 09:05:02 PM
Mtgox was alot higher than other exchanges till recently (granted every now and again it still is) but other markets seem to be yielding higher prices in comparison despite volume differences. Start of a changeover? Also what would you rate as the most volatile exchange? Important for day traders to know as that's where profits are more easily made. Personally I'd say mtgox at this point
8  Economy / Speculation / Best Practices for Trading? on: May 26, 2013, 09:15:47 AM
Guys I've been playing with BTC for a bit now. Brought in early this year at $20, and again at $38. Tried my hand at day trading. Had 10 tabs open daily, watched the graphs, read the forums, news alerts etc. Needless to say first few trades I either made 0.01BTC or lost a bit. Dont mind as this is something completely new, and took it as a learning curve.

I was over the effing moon when it shot up close to 260 (I trade on BitStamp), and heart broken when it plummeted (I was out for dinner, and could only watch it fall on my phone  (2factor verification stopped me logging in and panic selling in time)). It went up a bit that night to 180 when I thought of selling but was convinced the "correction" was over. Big mistake.

Anyway, since then I've been using all the info I have available (graphs, news alert, forums), but been more trusting of my gut when making a trade, and also been looking at it purely on a daily basis (ie if I lost money yesterday, I dont cry over it, and treat today as a fresh start). This has honestly worked out great for me (I have double the amount of coins I have).

So Im wanting to know, what is your golden rules about day trading and how well have the worked for you? With the price climbing (which I am happy about), it also makes it harder to profit on day trades (before all I needed it to day was change a dollar or 2 to make a good return, where as now Im looking at a minimum of a $3 difference to make a coin).
9  Economy / Speculation / Graphs and Price change question? on: May 20, 2013, 06:59:48 AM
Not sure if this is the right place to post this, but hoping someone can help me understand. Warning, I am a bit of a newbie to graphs Smiley

Looking at the volume on bitstamp, the bottom graph, if it says for example "50 BTC can be sold for a total of 5.83k USD untill price goes below 114,48" Does that mean if I sell 50 coins, the price will drop from 116.33 to 114.48?
10  Economy / Trading Discussion / Trading Bot possible? and how to get it? on: May 11, 2013, 06:40:08 AM
Hi Guys, a bit of a newbie when it comes to trading bots. I would like to have one for bitstamp where I can set the sell price, as well as the buy back price. In other words set a few variables that if it reaches x amount, sell. If it returns true, then buy back at x amount. If it reaches y amount sell, and then buy back at y amount. How would I go about doing this? Can you get someone to code it? Where would I go? freelancer? and help would be appreciated!
