3  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Breaking our own limitations on: November 20, 2017, 05:19:48 PM
Join me for a moment and forget about the block size, altcoins, bubbles, and the dream of riches...

We (the bitcoin community) need to fully understand how the standard bitcoin unit (BTC) is such a heavy mental deterrent for mainstream growth.

We can all agree that everyone here has been exposed to the BTC unit for long enough that we are desensitized to it and can accept it quite easily. Within our community (this board and others) we are failing to fully understand the outward implications of standardizing bitcoin in 1 BTC units.

Imagine a scenario if/when btc breaks 10000$. This would square up 1 mBTC to 1 USD (correction: 1mBTC to 10 USD) . Now survey a user with little to no knowledge of bitcoin and ask them if they would rather accept 0.001 btc or 1mbtc. Again, we (the community) are desensitized to these denominations and we are quick to understand they are the same. For a new user, it's not the case or as easy to understand and creates a large barrier that they may not be able to cross. This is only one simple scenario for a problem that spans across many different applications.

1 BTC units were designed to start us moving on the path we're currently following, but I personally believe when satoshi implemented a 8 decimal system he had a clear vision. And growth is that very vision. We already have expanded and grown, we must make room outward or we will only limit ourselves. If we want continued sustainability and prosperity on a level we haven't even begun to fathom then we should break the habit of using BTC as our standard denomination.

I do not have an answer for this problem. Simply referring all of today's values in a mBTC for a 1 million dollar coin will create the same problem in the future. Maybe we as a community can come together and figure this out.

I don't have any intention of removing a large portion of my ignore list, but still I am not able to view it.
6  Economy / Goods / [WTB] Traditional Archery Equipment on: May 23, 2017, 08:35:51 AM

7  Economy / Collectibles / 2015 Kialara 1btc Silver #75 on: April 26, 2017, 07:27:22 PM
This coin previously sold but I was unable to fulfill my obligations on my end in a timely manner. Thus the deal fell through. I expect to be around the same number before letting it go. I'm in absolutely no rush to sell because I didn't even know I had it until having to dig through my security deposit box to find my gold one, so don't low ball and just offer me your best offer.

Condition: Mint, as it was shipped to me. I probably never even took it out of the sleeve before taking the picture at the bottom of this thread.

Please pm me your offers or post here. Pms are preferred.

Not an auction or defined sell date.

Escrow isn't preferred, but accepted if very reputable. I've done larger trades without escrow, but I understand the need. Please see my trust ratings if you wish. Escrow at your fee.

I've got an overtime sheet for my team that I'm trying to develop. There are several rules that we must follow when scheduling overtime. I'm having trouble implementing all the rules into functions myself. I'm willing to pay someone to help or completely develop such a workbook. I've done quit a bit of work and functions myself but I'm sure it's messy, could be optimized, or possibly redesigned. It's nothing extreme, just a people placer.

Pm me. Thanks.
9  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Is this a plausible theory for a network spam attack? on: February 23, 2017, 12:25:23 AM
1. Be a large miner.
2. Collude with other top miners to attack the network with spam/high fee transactions.
3. Solve blocks and return their own transaction fees.
4. Rake in the legitimate ultra high fee transactions first from users who desperately need confirmations during an attack.
5. Profit???
6. Rinse and repeat.

One must be out of their mind to believe bitcoin will grow or become globally recognized with a problem as debilitating as this.
11  Other / Off-topic / Ignore list of mass paid signature advertisement users (4200+ users) on: December 06, 2016, 10:52:58 AM
This list is my personal expansion from AGD's ignore list extreme. I feel all signature advertisement campaigns, and their respective users, are detrimental to the integrity board no matter the quality of the post above it. There are no exceptions to this list; from "Brand New" to "Administrator" users, it all applies. All users that I find with paid advertisment signatures will end up on this list. If you feel the same, feel free to use it. If not, move on.

I also feel that this is only needed on www.bitcointalk.org. I have several accounts across the web where large and even more obnoxious signatures aren't minded by me at all. Why? Because they are not intentionally degrading to the board. I can't say for certain all these listed users have low quality posts and topics, but as a whole they're near worthless.

This thread will remain un-moderated and unlocked. Feel free to share your criticism or ideas here and we can politely discuss your concerns. This thread is not intended to rattle cages or upset anyone, but I'm sure it will regardless. And as such, I will not respond to simple minded hissy-fits.

If you want to be removed from this list, PM me without a paid advertisement in your signature.

If you want to experience what a lonely place bitcointalk.org can be without paid sig accounts, simply go to Profile/Ignore user options and you can add this list with copy/paste. Don't forget to save it.

Updated 3-17-17 with 4386 users:
Code:
Due to the limits of www.bitcointalk.org's thread length policy, I cannot surpass 64000 characters.
I am forced to use a 3rd party website such as pastebin. Any other recommendations would be great.

http://pastebin.com/7pCVdP0e

I will update this list as needed.

ALTERNATIVE SCRIPT BASED METHOD:

Please visit this thread: Signature Adblock Script [0.5.0]

Follow Grue's instructions on the installation BUT you must change "div .signature" to "div. windowbg2" (thanks to Holdaaja). If you do not change this, then you will be subjected to all the forum posts of these users that causing massive forum degradation, just without seeing their signatures.

Note: This may unintentionally block users with bulky personal signatures as the script uses a scoring system to determine which user to remove. With that, it will also leave the signatures of mass advertisements that are not bulky (such as the lower tier ones without heavy formatting). This might not be the "best" idea, but it's quick and "mostly" effective.

FAQ

Q: Do you not care about high quality users that have paid advertisements in their signatures?
A: A good example of my thought process is in the large paragraph of this reply in this thread.
Quote
Of course there are many examples of quality posts within the 3800 users that are helpful, professional, courteous, and of high quality; I do not deny this. But you must realize the lesser quality material vastly outweighs the greater quality material. I firmly believe without mass paid signature advertising, we would have the vice versa, or at least many magnitudes less of the lesser quality material.

Q: What about your signature? Is that not an advertisement?
A: Yes, my signature is an advertisement for my business. I am the only user on this forum with this signature, thus it is not mass paid signature advertising as this thread was created to campaign against.

Q: Why don't you block all signatures and move along?
A: Because I care about the problem these signatures are causing, not the signatures.

Q: I'm on the list but I don't have a paid advertisement in my signature. What gives?
A: My list is a hybrid of another users list. There may be several users on the list who might not need to be there. PM me if you do not have a paid advertisement in your signature.

13  Economy / Digital goods / Selling bo0t.com domain and matching unused forum account, 100$. on: August 10, 2016, 12:35:58 AM
I think of a cool blog when I try to put something together with it... Dunno, your choice.

Please note that the 3rd character is a zero.

Price in Btc only, escrow is fine.

Will only push to godaddy acounts after payment.

100$ takes it, or offer in pm or reply. Estibot appraises it at 200$. I'm not too sure how accurate it is.

Thanks.

Edit: also comes with the newly created account "bo0t".

17  Economy / Goods / [USA Only] Licensed FFL Sales of Guns or Firearms related For BTC on: June 13, 2016, 07:53:00 AM
This thread is self moderated to maintain cleanliness for business and sales purposes only. Any discussion unrelated to business/sales will be deleted...
Please have any non sales/business related discussions at THIS unmoderated thread. All concerns and discussions are welcome there.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The main point:
I am a fully licensed FFL meaning I have to operate LEGAL AND UP TO CODE, 100%, no tolerance. There will be -absolutely- no illegal or otherwise shady business with any sale/transfer!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

(↓↓↓ PLEASE READ ↓↓↓)
These are a few things to remember, not rules. Any part of this post is subject to change at any time. (updated 12-12-17)

1. BTC transfers related to firearms on the standard US regulated exchanges are not allowed. Please be aware of this before you purchase BTC from coinbase or circle.
    (a) https://www.circle.com/en/legal/us-user-agreement   "18. Prohibited items... ...weapons of any kind, including but not limited to firearms, ammunition, knives, or related accessories..."
    (b) https://www.coinbase.com/legal/user_agreement?locale=en "Regulated Products and Services... age restricted goods or services; weapons and munitions; gunpowder and other explosives..."
    (c) I will accept bitcoin from any address, from any exchange. It is -your- responsibility to know that if the above terms are violated your exchange may lock your account and freeze funds. Again, please be aware and take proper precautions to avoid problems.

2. Due to the difficulty of exchanging bitcoin with the above circumstances, I have to charge a small fee (3% or less) for bitcoin payments. There is no fee for cash or money order payments. Note: there will be a 8.5% sales tax applied for all who have a presence in the state of Arkansas (face to face transactions and shipping to any Arkansas address).

3. There are -zero- refunds on firearms after shipment. All firearms sales, after shipment, are final.
    (a) If you require repair due to a defect then you will need to contact the respective manufacturer for more information. Most manufacturer's give a lifetime warranty for their firearm products; do your research before purchasing.
    (b) If you request to be refunded before the firearm has shipped then a 20% restocking fee is applied. No exceptions.
    (c) Any sales unrelated to FFL firearms can be refunded after successful return shipping and inspection of item.

4. This is for mostly mainstream products. I can attempt special orders and hard to find firearms, but there is no guarantee. For example, I probably won't be able to get my hands on a 50000$ custom/antique firearm.
(↑↑↑ PLEASE READ ↑↑↑)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

HOW TO ORDER FIREARMS (see below * for non firearm sales)

1. Most important: Get with your local FFL and let them know that you would like to have a gun shipped to them and that they will need to email a copy of their signed and VALID FFL to Admin@hometownarms.com.
    - I do not accept fax.
    - A high resolution photo will suffice as long as all words and writings (signatures) are clearly visible.
2. Choose a gun you want, if you haven't already. Please note we cannot sell or ship NFA regulated items (silencers, full-auto, SBR's, explosives).
3. PM me with that gun, make and model (For example S&W M&P Shield 9, without thumb safety). Be polite and professional as I am not interested in doing business with anything but that... We aren't playing with marbles.
4. I will reply back as soon as possible with a price for -you-. Note: prices may change from person to person, location to location, day to day. Wholesale prices change frequently. PMed prices are good for 24 hours.
5. Once payment is completed/confirmed and your local FFL is confirmed the gun will be shipped to your FFL (please allow 2-3 weeks for delivery, it will be much quicker in most cases).
6. Upon the FFL receiving the gun you will fill out the ATF Form 4473 at your local FFL which will transfer the gun to you.
7. Responsibly go bang, bang, bang, knowing you bought that gun with BITCOIN!!!!!

*For unregulated sales:
I can purchase anything you're looking for you that is readily available on the internet and possibly other items that you might be having trouble finding. Please note that I can offer competitive prices on firearms and not always on unregulated items. My prices on parts such as barrels, lowers, other accessories and items may be higher than you can find them across the web or locally. I can purchase these items for you to maintain your anonymity. Purchases in such cases will have 7.5% added to the total order. These orders do not need to be shipped to your local FFL and can be shipped directly to your address or PO box.

Testimonials:

I wanted to post in Gadman's thread to finally close out a deal we agreed to. I contacted Gadman a while ago about finding an FNX .45 Tactical and he very quickly got back to me. His communication was always polite and in a timely manner. The product was quickly shipped and fairly priced. It arrived at my local FFL in great shape and I now have possession of a beautiful new firearm! I look forward to dealing with Gadman again in the future when I am looking to make another firearm purchase with Bitcoin!

Here are a few pictures of the firearm: http://imgur.com/msshz8p and http://imgur.com/fYavWce.

I just wanted to post here that I did a larger trade with Gadman2. I went first because it wouldn't have been fair to expect him to bear the upfront cost. His communication was excellent, everything was done timely and in a professional manner. He also knows the laws regarding his occupation well. It was an exemplary transaction and everything was as agreed upon. I would recommend his services to anyone here. Thank you!

I've been considering trying to find a niche in ffl transfers and the sale of firearms using bitcoin. Pawn shows can trade physical items for guns, would bitcoin be a problem?
