1  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / GA-990FXA-UD3 pcie 1x connectors? on: July 29, 2013, 03:21:03 AM

I just tried using the 1x connectors on this motherboard and it wouldn't boot.

Do I need to do the jumper mod on this board?

2  Bitcoin / Mining support / Hash Rate Graphs - Post Pics on: July 19, 2013, 08:51:31 PM

I'm still trying to get a little more stability from the 2 Mining Rigs I have running.
Here is a graph from one of the pools. My coins per day seem to change quite a bit.
Part of that is the "luck" of the pool I guess.

The dropouts were from overheating, I wrote a script that shuts down CGMiner when
any one of the cards gets to 86C. I don't use the auto-fan cause it seems to lower
the hash rate a little. It was about 90F here for the last couple days so they
ran hotter than normal. Usuall they run in the mid 60s - low 70s. One card not on a riser
runs in the mid 70s normally. 5 cards total, all 7970s. 4 Gigabyte and 1 XFX.

Hash rate from CGMiner total is: 3450Khs.

Just wondering what other peoples graphs look like.
3  Economy / Goods / [WTS] 25' Sport Boat - BTC/LTC/$ combo on: July 15, 2013, 05:01:47 AM
I currently have my boat listed for sale on boats.com but want to see if there is any interest in buying it for BTC/LTC/$ combination. I plan on investing a portion of the proceeds in BTC/LTC anyway so......

I have only posted 2 pics on the boats.com web site but have more and will post them here if anyone is interested.

The boat is a '95 Chapparral 2550SX sport boat. 7.4L 454 with a bravo III drive, SS props. New DSC Radio HDS-5 GPS/Sounder(both 2 yrs old). Boat is in excellent condition.

Trailer: 2004  Sportline aluminum I beam. The link to the boat is below.

Asking $15K.

Edit: The ad on boats.com has expired.

4  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / How stable is your hash rate? on: June 28, 2013, 01:42:58 PM

I have 2 rigs running and the hash rate fluctuates on all 5 cards.

Cards are 7970s and the hash rate keeps changing between ~700Khs to ~712Khs.
If I move the mouse the hash rate on all cards drops down in the 600s and then climbs back up
to the 700 range.

Just wondering if this is normal or if I still need to do a little more tweaking?
5  Bitcoin / Mining support / Gigabyte 990fxa-ud3 - lm-sensors problem on Linux on: June 02, 2013, 03:52:14 AM
I can't seem to get any temp or voltage readings from lm-sensors with this motherboard.

I've run through the set-up and it just does not seem to recognize any of the sensors, not even CPU temp.

Anyone else having this problem?

I'm running Ubuntu 12.04.

7  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Question about the output screen -- CGMiner on: April 23, 2013, 09:43:47 AM

Here's my output from CGMiner, what does the Diff 1/1 mean?
Is it related to: Connected to stratum.btcguild.com diff 1 with stratum

Is there a way to raise it, and is there any benefit to doing that?
I've noticed on other screen shots that the numbers are higher than mine.

8  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / New rig with old hardware? on: April 22, 2013, 06:34:14 PM
Just a couple of questions before I start putting a rig together.

Building a rig from some old hardware, do you see any problems with this set-up?
I'd like to be able to run 3 cards(hopefully 7970s) in the rig.

MB: Asus Crosshair - 2x16 PCIe and 1x4 PCIe - Should be able to run 3 cards??
I'll have to run at least one card on a riser, can't get to the x4 PCIe slot.

Processor: AMD 6400+ AM2 - 2.2Ghz
Ram: 2GB

Power supply 1000W or 1250W?

Do I need dummy plugs for each card running Xubuntu 12.04?

Run on USB Drive or should I get a hard drive?

Or should I just use a new motherboard that can accept 4 cards ... do you think building a rig that can run only 3 cards is a waste of money?

Edit: I'm planning on using this for Litecoin as well as bitcoin. I've read that Litecoin uses more ram but I'm currently running one card mining Litecoin and as far as I can tell there is no ram usage to speak of. Maybe I have something configured wrong?

9  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Installed linux over windows drive with my wallet.dat on: April 21, 2013, 01:35:31 AM

Here's what happened.

I was running Winxp on my hard drive, partitioned as C and D. The C drive had the operating system/program files. The D drive was used for my files only.

I created another partition to install Ubuntu and had it working for a while. I was going to back up my files on the D drive of course, but ..... I figured I'd do it later lol. To make a long story short, at a certain point neither system would boot, so I installed Ubuntu onto the drive wiping out all partitions. I can't seem to find any utility that will allow me to even try to recover files on that drive. Yep .... wallet is on there, along with some other stuff I'd like to get back.

Any ideas?
10  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Looking For Advice On Tweaking 7970 on: April 17, 2013, 11:03:20 PM
Finally got up and running with my XFX DD 7970, turned out all I needed was the 6 pin to 8 pin PCIe adapter. Just wouldn't work with 2 6 pin PCIe.

Now that I got that problem out of the way, I'm looking for some advice on CGMiner tweaks and other things I can do to maximize coin generation.

Sys Info:
Xbuntu 12.04
CGMiner 2.11.4
AMD-APP 2.7
Catalyst 13.1

GPUs
1 XFX DD 7970 --- Plan on getting another one soon, maybe not XFX tho
1 Diamond HD6450

As far as I know the XFX cards are locked so there are some things I can't change. The only thing I have done so far is change the Intensity. The XFX card runs about 72C all the time, doesn't matter if the intensity is 1 or 10, that seems kinda odd. Edit:(The temp does change when I change the intensity). After I post this I'm gonna shut down and turn my fans on 100% and see what that does for the temps. Running in closed case with 4 fans, I cut two holes in the side of case and have 2 fans blowing directly on the Graphics cards.

Edit: Tried cranking up the 2 side fans to 100% and the XFX temp stabilized about 67C. Pretty small gain for a lot of extra noise.

Currently I'm getting about 590-600 Mh/s using just the 7970. The sample output below is using both cards.

Getting a little hotter now ... up to 76C and CPU temp goin up lol.

Just wondering what a few of these sensors are if anyone knows.

I've highlighted the ones in question.

Is there a better way to monitor these temps besides the sensors output on Xubuntu 12.04?

13  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / XFX 7970 Power Supply on: April 15, 2013, 12:40:35 AM

Just plugged in my XFX 7970 using 2 6 pin pcie power cables and it won't work!

Has anyone tried using the 6-8 pin pcie adapter cable and had good results? My psu is a 750w Thermaltake with only 2 6 pin pcie connectors. The 7970 has one 6 pin connector and one 8 pin connector.

14  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / CGMiner autogen error on: April 13, 2013, 03:20:54 AM

Still trying to get CGMiner installed on Ubuntu 12.1.

Getting an error when using the autogen.sh

Quote
~/mining/ckolivas-cgminer-4c19604$ ./autogen.sh
Running autoreconf -if...
./autogen.sh: 8: ./autogen.sh: autoreconf: not found

I tried inserting this line but it didn't work wither:

dh_autoreconf autoreconf --

Any ideas on what to try?

15  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Casual Miner Setup Question on: April 09, 2013, 11:30:12 PM

I just ordered a 7970 and currently have a 6450. My motherboard is kinda old ... Asus Crosshair am2. It has 2 PCI slots, I was wondering if I could install both cards and hook up the 6450 to the monitor for browsing etc while the 7970 is dedicated to mining only? Should I get a null plug for the 7970 or just connect it to my monitor(Dual input monitor).

7970 Card: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1823334

Lol, shows out of stock now, must have got the last one this morning!

MB Asus Crosshair am2

CPU is AMD Athlon 64 X2 4600+ Windsor

4G Ram

750W Thermaltake Toughpower PSU - about 6 or 7 years old lol.

Gonna finally have to upgrade to win7 64 bit from XP 32 bit if I can. I don't wanna go to Win 8.

I was wondering if I should run the 64 bit Win7 or just go with the 32? Old MB and CPU???

Anyone have any suggestions or see potential problems with this set-up?

16  Bitcoin / Mining support / Miner does not use GPU - only CPU - 3KH/s! on: April 08, 2013, 03:54:42 PM

Just trying to get started and my Litecoin rate is about 3KH/s lol.

I think the problem is that it is only using my CPU and not my GPU.

I have a HD6450, don't laugh, running on winXP 32.

When I start guiminer it says no open cl devices found and just minimizes to the tray, can't get to any settings.

When I use Litecoin and go to the mining tab I can get that to run at  at 3KH/s to 7KH/s but I don't think it is using my GPU at all.

I've installed the SDK App Rev 13.1. Do I need a previous version?

What am I missing?

OK, I finally got synced and I'm staring at a blank Bitcoin wallet.

I've done some reading and there is quite a bit to learn so to get things started I'd like to do a transaction but am a bit leary about buying at this point.

Is there anyone out there willing to send me the minimum bitcoin transaction, I think it is .01, and I will send it back once received. Would there be a transaction cost? I thought I read somewhere there is a way to do it without transaction fees but it takes longer.

Before I get a bunch of comments saying I'm trying to pull a quick one and get a bunch of ppl to send me coin, that is not the case at all. If someone is willing to do this please post here that you have done it so that no-one else does.

I think all I would need to do is include an address from my wallet but I won't post an address until I get some feedback.

Just wondering if this is commonly done as a way for newbs to get their feet wet.
