I've just been alerted to the fact that someone named, jamesc76O (last character is a Capital Letter "O", while mine is a number "0") --very clever--, is trying to scam people by asking to send payment to HIS address: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=673571.120Is there a way to remove him from the forum? What is the most effective way to deal with this situation?

Let's start an online petition. I don't know how. Please someone who knows e-marketing, get the campaign going. I will support it. When I'm buying coffee at Peet's, I try to use Google Wallet, if available. I'd prefer to pay with bitcoins, if only to support mass adoption.
What do you think?

I have been mining BTC and other altcoins for over a year now. I'd like to open a part of my mining farm to beginners and newbies, since Bitmain stopped selling Antminer S1. Currently, I have 1.1+ THs open for the group buy; This represents about 6 Antminer S1's, some are overclocked at 375 or 382, and some are stock.
Terms:
1. 0.275 BTC for 1 Share of 100 GH/s, 2. Available Shares are 11 Total, 3. Management fee of 2.5% includes ALL expenses, including but not limited to hosting and electricity, 4. Duration is for 12 Months from date of payment, 5. Payout will be weekly on a Saturday, 6. Mining pool and other decision is at the discretion of the Organizer, namely me.
Send payment to:
186JJyvRQJKmyouxR8d4e5wKaHXBFHL7ws
PM with your payment tx id # and payout receive address; only use address you control.
Why should you trust me? I am a long time member of the forum and would like to keep my senior (soon to be hero!) member status. I'd like the group buy to eventually become a major mining group, so I will be re-investing and purchasing more miners as well as replacing old miners with more efficient ones. I have been a vitim of a scam (I'm looking at you, AvalonShenzhen!) and I know how much it hurts to be a victim. I also believe in karma.
I already have the miners and am mining. At this time, a share (100 GHs) will receive about 0.006 BTC DAILY, keep in mind that rising difficulty will eat into the profit every 11-12 days.
My management fee of 2.5% includes electricity and internet hosting and other maintenance costs. This fee will NOT increase, unlike some other group buys. I will NOT change the terms set above. I have a low-cost/almost-free electricity. However, as reliable as Southern California electricity is, in case of black outs and other natural disasters, I won't be able to reimburse for the lost hashing--but, in the last 10 years, there was only 2 service outages lasting more than 1 hour, and I don't foresee any long cuts in service.
Please ask any questions here or pm me.

What's going to happen first, a proper exchange in the US or a dramatic new rise in bitcoin price?
I'm asking because we are now at a point where the bitcoin price is flattening due to equilibrium. I mean, would you trust bitstamp or btc-e or any other existing exchanges to send you thousands of dollars when btc price rises up? Remember MtGox? They couldn't survive the recent price rise; you can argue that they keeled over due to hackerz, but the main thing is they couldn't recover due to high bitcoin price.
I honestly believe none of the existing exchanges will not be able to withstand the coming bubble. For instance, when the next ride-to-the-moon pumps bitcoin price to, say, $5000 a piece. If you try to sell 50 coins, then the exchange will have to send you $250K. That's a Quarter Million Dollars. It's the price of a regular family size house across the US. I just don't see these current exchanges able to trade huge sums of dollars/euros/whatnots.
Ergo, don't expect prices to rise until a proper exchange(s) start operating in the US.
PS: I don't consider coinbase to be an exchange and let's not forget that they could not handle the volume during the run-up in price last Nov/Dec.

Did you see the price rise from $515 to $530 in the span of a couple of minutes just now? Seriously. Someone's trying to pump up the price before the Chinese wakes up and sees the price.

probably linked to the rise of btc price from $400 to $500 almost overnight.
Are miners turning power back on their miners due to the $100 rise? Is that where the line is?

Get over it. BTC price will never go up to $10000 or $5000. Not even $2000. Here's why.
Institutional Investers are not coming. They are risk-averse as a group. They do not like volatility in their invesstment portfolio. They prize stability most of all. Bitcoin is a bit too volatile for their taste. They are not going to put their money in something that loses 60% of its value overnight.
Too many people bought in during the China-induced bubble at the end of last year. They have seen the value of their bitcoins plummet. Some people have lost their life savings. They will cash out if BTC goes up to $1000 level, if they have not cashed out yet. After cashing out, they will never come back. Once bitten, twice shy.
Bitcoin has failed as a currency. It is a store of value, a commodity like gold. How many people would like to use gold strictly as currency? After 4 and a half years, Satoshi Nakamoto's vision has been turned upside down; The BTC experiment is a failure. Without a strong government support, you can't have a secure, reliably and stable currency.
Bitcoin will continue its meandering ways like this forever or until its demise. There is no S-Curve. There is no magic ride to Million dollar trend line. This is it, folks.

His groupbuy post is here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=480601.0He's trying to "sell" Avalon Gen2 200GHs unit for 2.0 BTC. In response to other members questioning the price and requesting proof he has the units, he's showing his true colors. From my experience, scammers typically lash out when questioned this way. One interesting thing is if you click on his "trust" link, you will someone, a jr member since Nov'2013, has posted 2 positive feedback. This can be a ruse, though. Anyway, please be very wary when dealing with someone who reacts angrily and tries to demean senior members like he's doing. Peace out! James

Please take a look at the following subforum called "Scam Accusation": https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=83.0I thought I was smart enough to recognize when someone was scamming. Well, to make long story short, I was recently victimized for 1.1 BTC. I am starting to think that no one is immune to a smart scammer. So, please check the Scam Accusations subforum, BEFORE you send your hard earned BTC to anyone. I hope the mods make this a sticky. Until then I will keep bumping this thread. Other ideas: ***TICK THIS BOX (which is off by default and shouldn't be) Profile -> Forum Profile Information -> Show untrusted feedback by default --> This was suggested by nottm28

for posterity and service to the members, I am copying and pasteing the back and forth with AvalonShenzhen about my attempt at getting refund from him:
Quote from: AvalonShenzhen on Today at 07:21:59 AM Quote from: jamesc760 on Today at 07:20:06 AM AvalonShenzhen,
I want my refund now. I know you are online quite often because you've been deleting my post about order cancellation and refund request as soon as I post them.
I will keep posting until you fully refund me.
James
Hello Jamesc760,
We are not online 24/24 so sorry. Don't spam the forum or indeed we will clean it up.
Why do you want a refund. Don't buy one unit and after 1 hours ask a refund...
I'd like a refund to pay for extra medication my mother needs. She's been in nursing home and took a bad fall.
Please honor my request for refund now.
Thank you,
James

This is a Public Service Announcement.
Please do not install ASIC miners in your house without consulting electricians.
Sure, if you have the low hash units like the Jalapenos, Blades, Cubes, etc, you don't have to talk to your local electrician, unless you have more than 10 of these units.
All the new, upcoming miners require kilo-watts of power. Take the example of the Terraminer: it requires you to pull power from 2 separate circuits and will probably require you to upgrade from 15 Amp to 20 Amp. KNC Neptunes require similar power draw and upgrade.
How many people are going to install these potential fire hazard without proper care and understanding? Quite a lot, I'm afraid.

As the title states...
I was here for the April'2013 ride and the December'2013 ride. The April'2013 rollercoaster was started by the media's frenzied coverage. The December'2013 was caused by the Chinese mania over the bitcoins.
Will there be another singular event that causes massive swings in bitcoin price in the next six months or so?
Does anyone foresee any event(s) in the near term that can induce mass hysteria to rocket bitcoin to the moon again?
Are we in a period of prolonged stability around $800-$900 for the foreseeable future?
What say you?

I know other exchanges are still behind, but I think it's significant that one of the leading exchanges just hit $1000.

I was responding to another thread somewhere and a thought entered my fertile mind:
next halving of bitcoin will take place by end of 2015.
If you don't already know what "halving" means, it means that around every 10 minutes, a block of bitcoins will be rewarded to a miner and the reward will be halved from current 25 to 12.5 bitcoins.
The exact date and time of the next halving is not quite certain, it just depends upon how many blocks will have been mined then. As we all know, the hashrate has been greatly accelerating and this acceleration is causing the date and time of halving to be earlier and earlier than expected.
This event, "halving of bitcoin reward for mining", will most likely result in overnight spike in, whatelse, bitcoin price. It should at least double:
so, if the prevailing bitcoin price on, say, October 15, 2015 is $50,000 (which admittedly is a conservative amount) and if the halving takes place at midnight on October 15, 2015, then the next morning, October 16, 2015, we will see an overnight doubling to $100,000.
This is a highly simplified version of what can happen in 2015. Many people will drive up the bitcoin price IN ANTICIPATION prior to the event and there will be many opportunities for panic buying and panic selling as well, as new entrants try to grab the dwindling supply of the new coins.
These are tumultuous times.

Since my last prediction went so well , I am going to make another "most accurate" prediction ever: BTC will rise to $2000 by end of March 2014. This is NOT based on extrapolation, psychic power, statistical analysis, technical analysis or any other analysis or thought processes. Please do NOT take this prediction to base ANY financial, legal or other activities you may want to engage in your life or other's around you. In fact, I must stress that this prediction will probably, most likely, and in its entirety, miss the mark completely. Whatever you do after reading this prediction is ENTIRELY up to you. I bear no RESPONSIBILITY for any losses you may inflict upon yourself. This is a PURELY speculative prediction, not based on science or art or anything. I just made it up, out of the thin air. Just like bitcoins.

I don't know what else is going on right now. Prices have risen unexpectedly today. How else can you explain today's suden jump? Someone needs Christmas spending money and is scheming to jack up the price so he can dump. Just saying...

they could potentially become a force. Instead of building nuclear missiles, they need to get into mining bitcoins. They are already the biggest counterfeiter of US dollars, what more lucrative than btc mining for them? China's right next door, NK can easily buy up Asicminer's 3rd gen miners. The government controls electricity which comes from hydro dams--but they do have problems with generating electricity. However, it's a cold country, near Siberia. Man, someone send a message to Dennis Rodman so he can alert the Dear Leader to this once-in-a-life-time opportunity!!!
