2  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Potcoin wallet issue on: June 28, 2017, 09:36:12 AM
I have a wallet.dat file from an old Potcoin QT Core wallet (2014) that contained 20,000 Potcoins. It was the old style QT with the fuzzy pot leaf icon.
The laptop running the client crashed and burned long ago so I wasn't sure of the address and private keys for the wallet, having only ever received the 20 K coins and not ever made any other transactions.
I just finished downloading the latest Potcoin QT Core wallet and it is fully synced to the network. If I cut and paste the old wallet.dat file into the new Client folder in %APPDATA% the balance still shows as Zero. I pressed the receive coins button to get the address from the original wallet and have noted that down (I am assuming at least I did that bit correct).
i contacted the Potcoin support several times and surprise, surprise, not a dickybird ....
Anyone know If its possible to salvage anything from this mess?
What makes things worse is I have watched the value of Potcoin/BTC fall 25% in the time it took to sync the new wallet   Sad
I know this is the Bitcoin Tech support forum but I couldnt find a Tech support forum in Altcoins.
any help much appreciated,

cheers,

5  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Bitcoin Wallet v0.8.6 beta on: June 18, 2017, 03:48:28 AM
Hi Fellas,
Have a v0.8.6 beta wallet containing 2.5 Bitcoins that is out of sync by 148 weeks. I just worked out that at my current internet speed, it will take minimum 7 days and 8 hours to sync with the network. It is currently syncing but seems really unstable, keeps crashing for whatever reason and I have to restart it.

I have just downloaded a new and clean Electrum 2.8.3 wallet on another computer.
So my question is:

can i copy and paste the wallet.dat file from the QT wallet to the Electrum wallet in Apps/roaming, reboot and hey presto funds transferred? If not, is there a way that I can transfer contents of wallet A to wallet B and access the funds before the QT wallet has synced with the blockchain?

cheers,
Kev

7  Economy / Service Discussion / Mt.Gox files for U.S. Bankruptcy Protection on: March 11, 2014, 04:19:59 AM
Well I guess it was only a matter of time.

"Mt.Gox officially filed for U.S. Chapter 15 bankruptcy protection. Although Mt.Gox has already filed for bankruptcy in Japan, the U.S. filing will allow for additional cross-border protections under international law. With an outstanding debt of ¥6.5 billion and missing 850,000 BTC belonging to users the world over, the move to protect Mt.Gox’s U.S. assets is not unexpected.

If the filing is approved, Mt.Gox could be granted “automatic stay” against creditors, preventing the seizure of U.S. assets. Such an approval would need to be granted by the presiding bankruptcy judge. Until the filing is approved, Mt.Gox assets are not under such protection. A hearing on the matter is expected within the next 30 days.

Assuming the filing is approved, Mt.Gox would then be able to safely conduct business in the U.S. without fear of seizures or other actions by creditors, allowing for the bankruptcy process to continue.

In an announcement on the Mt.Gox website last week, the company announced plans to restart the exchange, although it’s unclear to what extent."

8  Economy / Service Discussion / Gox collapse due (in part) to neglect of Bitcoin Foundation Board? on: March 04, 2014, 05:00:39 AM
In trying to make sense of all of the recent activity and events, I began thinking about the initial few days where there was public mud slinging and tit for tat comments between Karpeles and members of the board on the Bitcoin Foundation. It seems the Board knew of Gox's vulnerability to double spends through Maleable Transaction weakness caused by their unique code and payment practices.

The Second point of vision of the Bitcoin Foundation (according to their website) is "Protection of Bitcoin"

They state:

"Cryptography is the key to Bitcoin’s success. It’s the reason that no one can double spend, counterfeit or steal Bitcoins. If Bitcoin is to be a viable money for both current users and future adopters, we need to maintain, improve and legally protect the integrity of the protocol."

If this is so,
Shouldn't the Foundation have an implicit right if not obligation to audit BTC exchanges and insure their cryptography complies with the requirements of the Foundation? Should not the modus operandi of every exchange be under close scrutiny of the Foundation? After all if we continue to see corruption and theft in exchanges, Bitcoin will ultimately fail

The Foundation has a board member called Micky Malaka:

From the website;

"Micky is the founder and sole General Partner of Ribbit Capital, a Silicon Valley-based venture capital firm. He has over two decades of global experience in the financial services industry. He started five financial services companies – his first at the age of 18 – in the U.S., Europe and Latin America, and serves on the board of multiple financial services businesses, including Wonga, Mercado Libre, and Lemon. He lived through hyperinflation in Venezuela and Brazil, where he witnessed more than half of the banks in his home country fail. As a result, he strives to help create tangible solutions and financial reform for the antiquated industry."

Well now Micky can add Gox to his list of Financial institutes that he has witnessed FAIL. Just what tangible solutions are being worked on to achieve financial reform for the present exchanges? If they are too busy, isn't it about time that the board addresses this staffing shortfall and appoint a member who can be specifically assigned to Quality Assurance and auditing of all Exchanges and ultimately SAVE BITCOIN?

Would like to hear other community members ideas and suggestions on this,

cheers,
kev

14  Bitcoin / Hardware / Get a REFUND from Yifu for Avalon chips on: August 09, 2013, 02:12:03 PM
Many of the community have invested in these chips at a time when AVALON had elevated themselves into arguably the top slot for BTC mining equipment. So far they have delivered 1 batch of chips to their "western" customer base and they were some 4 weeks overdue.

Their "No Bullshit" terms of sale have not been followed; sample/developer chips provided 4 weeks after payment of order didnt happen. Shipping of chips 9-10 weeks after payment didnt happen. They are clearly in violation of their own terms of sale and therefore must offer a full refund to those purchasers requesting such.

Whatever you have been told, their statement "No refunds" does not effect our statutory rights as consumers (under UK law and probably most other countries). I am a large shareholder in a group buy who have already requested a refund and have not received any reply. This is simply not acceptable from a company who has taken $millions of our money. Our group has realised that this 6+ week in delay and counting has effectively made the chips worthless to us.

If the majority of shareholders in group buys decide that they will be wasting more money for fabrication costs and having no chance of seeing a ROI, then perhaps, its time to demand a full REFUND from BitSyncom,  after all there are other companies which can likely deliver sooner and represent a more favourable investment.

I would urge all batch leaders to poll your group buy members and find out what THEY want, if a large number of group buy leaders request a refund, there will have to start addressing the issue. BitSyncom need to understand that they need to open up channels of communication and address this serious issue which affects hundreds if not thousands of consumers.

If this situation continues for much longer, the chips will not be worth their initial cost + development cost.
If you have any information about BitSyncom, full personal details, addresses (for legal communication), telephone numbers and e-mail addresses, Links to their personal media pages, personal future appointments at events (dates and locations), any info which will help to make contact, please post it on this thread.

Please refrain from posting 1 line, throw away comments, they probably wont help our collective cause.
Thanks for reading,

16  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Powered PCI-e riser cable from 120 wire extender? on: May 16, 2013, 04:00:14 PM
Hi Guys,
Is it possible to make the molex powered riser using the 120 wire (single ribbon) type PCI-e cable. So far I can only find tutorials showing the 240 wire (double ribbon) type cables where 5 wires are soldered (side A & B). It would seem that I only have 2 & 3 wires available on this design and that may not be enough for say 2 Amps??

Thanks for any help.

18  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Question about PCI-e Extension cables on: April 27, 2013, 07:05:56 AM
When using 16x16 extender cables to distance the cards the mobo, is it normal that one would get the following message in win 7 device manager:

"This device cannot find enough free resources that it can use. (code 12)"  ??

does it mean that the cables are no good or is this normal when using extenders.

I am only running 3 x 7970's off of an ASUS P8Z77-V Pro mobo. PSU is a Coolermaster 1300W Gold.

Any advice much appreciated,

Kev.
19  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / monitor & marital problems on: April 16, 2013, 05:16:32 PM
Well I built my first rig and I have had all sorts of technical problems.
First off, the ASUS P8Z77 Pro mobo was a duffer and had to be exchanged,
that took me 2 days but the new 1 is running fine and I got the vendor to upload my W7 OS on it at the shop, plus he did the thing with the BIOS.

Now everything is working except the new monitor, I went for a Samsung Syncmaster SA100 which was cheap and cheerful cos I dont do gaming
When I plugged the VGA plug into the mobo and turned it on, an odd looking figure comes on the screen for about 4 seconds then it goes off (this is with 2 x 7970'S connected directly to the board) got a 3rd but still waiting for the risers off of e-bay.

I took the monitor & mobo back to the (monitor) shop (minus the cards) and they tried it all and nothing. They changed the VGA cable and hey presto, windows booted up on the monitor. So off I trotted home and set the cards back on the board and plugged the replacement cable in to the mobo and the back of the monitor, power up then I get the exact same figure pops up, for want of a better description it looks like a wobbling mouse or diode with 4 dots under it which disappear 1 every second, then nothing.

So then I hooked up the HDI/VGA converter to one end of the cable and plugged this into one of the cards and tried the monitor again, still the same odd looking figure comes up for 4 seconds then nothing, tried plugging into the other card and get the same.

All the cables are screwed in tight, no pins are bent, the RAM cards are in properly as are the 2 cards

I am really getting fed up now, my wife is constantly giving me that "knowing" look cuz she has an idea how much i spent on all of this and I havent even got to dealing with the various mining software issues yet. I am beginning to feel like a real prat for ever starting this.

can anyone save me from stepping off of this high rise balcony   Grin

Kev.
20  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Advice on first rig build on: April 13, 2013, 09:08:47 AM
Hiya guys,
After reading threads on this site for a couple of weeks, I decided to try my hand at mining. I have no experience with computer building and I really struggle understanding code/script. That said, I decided to build a rig and have just about got it completed. see link to photo below: sorry I dont even know how to upload the photo here  Sad  If someone could explain how to upload it here, perhaps I can edit the thread to make it more readable.

 http://s1279.photobucket.com/user/Batamminer/media/IMG-20130413-00158_zps79c879ba.jpg.html?sort=3&o=0

The hardware spec is as follows:

ASUS P8Z77-V-Pro mobo
Crucial 8GB DDR3 RAM
Intel core i3-3220-3.3Ghz CPU
Seagate 500GB Barracuda SATA3 HDD
Coolermaster 1300W Silent Pro 80 Gold PSU
3 X Sapphire ATI 7970 3GB GPU's
Windows 8 OS

I have ordered some PCI-e 16x extender cables from e-bay (the mobo has slots for 3 x 16x extenders).

My questions are:

1     Will my PSU give me enough power to allow me to add a 4th 7970 card? (I have had a little windfall and can now afford another). I understand that I will need to use a 1x extender so will have to order from the net.

2     Is Windows 8 OK for an OS or should I swap it (unopened as yet) for Windows 7?

3     What hash rates can I expect from this set up for BTC & LTC mining?

Thanks in advance   Smiley

Kev
