2  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Antigua & Barbuda ready to accept Bitcoin on: May 01, 2017, 05:16:32 AM
Antigua & Barbuda might go “full bitcoin” and accept the digital currency for government services.

The Cabinet of Antigua & Barbuda instructed the Attorney General, to draft news laws for the possible implementation of Bitcoin throughout the various level of government on the twin island nation, which include numerous smaller islands in the caribbean.

The move comes after the Cabinet met with an Antigua Leisure & Gaming Association on Wednesday, to discuss the benefits of using Bitcoin on Antigua. The Cabinet, apparently seeing an opportunity to put Antigua ahead of the curve on this new technology, made the move.

Antigua hosted the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Week and Symposium where Prime Minister Gaston Browne delivered the feature address at the opening ceremony. The 15th Caribbean Ministerial Strategic ICT Seminar focussed on ICT in  financial services, and explored, among other things, the use of cryptocurrencies towards innovation in the region’s ICT development.

Do you think this is good for the caribbean region?
3  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / C-CEX delisting the following coins! on: May 01, 2017, 05:00:36 AM
The following coins will be removed from C-CEX on 08.05.2017 if their average trading volume for the last month has not exceeded 0.2 BTC/day (6 BTC for last 30 days):

ArtexCoin [ATX], LuckChain [BASH], BiosCrypto [BIOS], BritCoin [BRIT], Bitquark [BTQ], CaliphCoin [CALC], PawnCash [CSH], CoreCoin [CRC], CreakCoin [CREAK], CereiPayCoin [CRPC], DubaiCoin [DBIC], DimeCoin [DIME], DT Token [DRACO], Eclipse [EC], EverGreenCoin [EGC], GoldBlocks [GB], BigLifeCoin [LFC], OTCCoin [OTX], PabyosiCoin [PBC], RideMyCar [RIDE], SunShotCoin [SSC], UCoin, VectorCoin 2.0 [VEC2], PureVidz [VIDZ], VitalAir [VTL], Wcoin [WCN], WorldGoldCoin [WGC], Fenix [XFX], LiteChain [XLTC], ExodusCoin [XODUS], Isotope [XTP], ZeroCoin [ZCOIN], BitZeny [ZNY].

Since, they have to free up server resources for new coins by delisting some coins which have consistently low trading volume.

They recommend to trade, sell or withdraw these coins before removal date, after which retrieval of any remaining balances for these coins will not be possible anymore.

However, they will not remove coins which will reach minimum trading volume requirement.

Do you hold any of these coins?
4  Economy / Economics / Bank of Korea's research on crypto and FIAT currency on: April 27, 2017, 03:23:24 PM
South Korea’s central bank has published a new working paper analyzing a dual-currency regime by pitting cryptocurrencies against traditional fiat currencies. Fiat currencies have been historically known to decrease continuously, the authors confirm, due to inflation and the factor of new money pumped in to the supply by the central bank, also known as quantitative easing. Bitcoin, in stark contrast, has a fixed supply which would imply a “deflationary bias”, the authors note. However, security or trust issues – the decentralization of digital currency and the absence of insurance provided by governmental authorities – may prevent digital currency from being used as a store of value. Instead, digital currency may be used as a medium of exchange dominantly.

Do you agree with this research result?

5  Economy / Economics / Bitcoin: Best investment in 2017? on: April 27, 2017, 02:45:48 PM
Bitcoin price has outperformed every reserve and fiat currency across the world year to date, yet again. By outperforming the US dollar by over 30 percent, Bitcoin surpassed the growth of the Mexican Peso, Silver, Gold and Russian Ruble to become the best performing currency so far in 2017.

Thus far, 2017 has been a successful year for both Bitcoin investors and alternative cryptocurrency (altcoin) traders, with leading altcoins or crypto assets such as Ethereum achieving a $5 bln market cap in early April. The Bitcoin market, however, experienced some major changes in its ecosystem earlier this year. The major driving force of Bitcoin price in 2017 is suspected to be the resolution of the Bitcoin network’s current scalability problems.

The Bitcoin network’s one MB cap on block size is causing Blockchain congestion, a drastic increase in fees at times and long confirmation times. If Bitcoin scalability issues are addressed within this year, with innovative solutions such as Bitcoin Core’s Segregated Witness (SegWit), Andrew Lee’s Extension Blocks or other potential emerging solutions, Bitcoin price will most likely demonstrate an exponential mid and long-term increase.

Would you invest in BTC this year?
6  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Chinese Tencent Joins Blockchain Race on: April 27, 2017, 02:23:46 PM
The Chinese Internet giant Tencent is building its own Blockchain for enterprise-level services. Its platform, TrustSQL, aims to provide all the tools necessary for developing Blockchain applications for businesses. Tencent, as part of the so-called BAT group along with Baidu and Alibaba, is known for its tenacity in disruptive financial technologies, with all three outfits working at breakneck speed to update the Chinese domestic market before traditional banks.

Do you agree this boost blockchain tech adoption?
7  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Nevada Votes to Recognize Blockchain Tax Ban Bill on: April 27, 2017, 02:03:34 PM
Senators in the state of Nevada have fully supported a blockchain bill that would prevent a local government from taxing or imposing restrictions upon the use of a blockchain. In detail, this bill prohibits a local government from: (1) imposing a tax or fee on the use of a blockchain; (2) requiring a certificate, license or permit to use a blockchain; and (3) imposing any other requirement relating to the use of a blockchain. Nevada is not the only state that is pushing the blockchain agenda, which could essentially pave the way for smart contracts too in the state. Last month, the Senate of the state of Arizona passed a blockchain bill that would give smart contracts and blockchain signatures legal binding status.

Do you agree this support innovation?
8  Economy / Speculation / Bitfinex Price Spreads & Bitcoin Bubble on: April 27, 2017, 01:54:05 PM
One week has passed since bitcoin exchange Bitfinex announced issues with banking partners and halted fiat withdrawals for its customers. Since then the price of bitcoin has been rallying upwards reaching new highs across global exchanges. As the price surges, Bitfinex prices have been $100 higher than at other exchanges, making traders worrisome a bubble is forming. Some say, once the exchange withdrawal issues get resolved, or a bearish event hits (such as an exchange liquidation), bitcoin’s price is likely to drop aggressively since it’s currently artificially inflated.

Do you think a Bitcoin bubble is forming?
9  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / The SEC (USA) is Now Weighing an Ethereum ETF Proposal on: April 26, 2017, 06:35:04 AM
The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is currently mulling over a decision to greenlight EtherIndex Ether Trust's Exchange-Traded Fund (ETF). The backers of the EtherIndex Ether Trust first filed in July 2016, seeking to launch an ETF backed by a cache of ethers on the NYSE Arca exchange. NYSE Arca then filed for a proposed rule change clearing the way for the ETF listing in December.

It remains to be seen whether the SEC moves to approve the proposed ETF. In the past month and a half, the SEC has rejected rule changes that would have cleared the way for two Bitcoin ETFs, citing concerns over market surveillance and insufficient regulation.

On the other hand, the SEC acceptance of an ETF based in Ether would signal a victory for players in the industry seeking acknowledgement from central banking corporations and legislative bodies, both of which have a strong influence over the policies and regulation of the virtual currency ecosystem.

Do you think the SEC could approve the Ethereum ETF instead of the Bitcoin ETF?
10  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / The SEC (USA) Approves Petition to Review Winklevoss Bitcoin ETF Rejection on: April 26, 2017, 06:18:54 AM
The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) intends to review its decision to reject the Winklevoss Bitcoin Exchange-Traded Fund (ETF) listed on the Bats BZX exchange, in March. Less than two weeks after the decision was handed down, Bats petitioned for a review – a move that the agency has now greenlit. The SEC said two days ago that it had approved the review, opening the door to further comment between now and 15th May. In its 25-page petition for a review, Bats Exchange states that the decision by the delegated authority “is clearly erroneous”. The exchange claims that the standard applied in their disapproval decision “is inconsistent with prior approval orders” and is not even required by the Securities Exchange Act.

Do you think the SEC could change its mind about disapproving the Winklevoss Bitcoin ETF?

11  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Cryptocurrency Market Cap: an All-Time High on: April 26, 2017, 05:58:58 AM
The combined market value of all cryptocurrencies in circulation has pushed beyond the significant milestone of $30 billion yesterday for the first time ever, underlining the ever-expanding interest in digital currencies and the blockchain technology. The altcoin market has soared since the turn of the year with the likes of Ethereum, Dash, Monero and Ripple making significant gains.

12  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / LocalBitcoin Has Two New Record Highs: Ukraine & Dominican Republic on: April 25, 2017, 08:58:32 AM
LocalBitcoins volumes are heading back towards new all-time highs as Ukraine and the Dominican Republic set new records. The highs are part of a recent resurgence in LocalBitcoins markets, having previously come off highs largely driven by Chinese investors seeking alternatives to barred exchanges.

Ukraine’s story, meanwhile, shows a continuation of a steady trend. The country’s weakened currency and heavy tech industry makes it fertile ground for Bitcoin interest, with the government for its part actively incorporating Blockchain technology into its economic strategy.

Which countries do you think would be the next all-time highs in LocalBitcoins?

14  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Europe consolidating itself as a Bitcoin Haven on: April 25, 2017, 08:00:29 AM
Countries like France, Germany and the UK have already established regulatory frameworks for Bitcoin companies, users and traders. Other European countries have offered their unique regulatory frameworks with clarity, to ensure there exists no conflict between local businesses and regulators due to ambiguous regulations and policies like India.

Smaller countries such as Malta, an archipelago in the central Mediterranean between Sicily and the North African coast, have begun to consider Bitcoin as a legitimate currency and revolutionary technology. In fact, Malta’s prime minister announced the approval of a national strategy to promote Bitcoin and Blockchain technology.

In detail, Malta government’s vision is to transform Malta into the Silicon Valley of Europe. The country will focus on the development of innovative technologies such as Bitcoin and Blockchain technology to stay at the forefront of European technological innovation.

Do you agree Bitcoin have bright future in Europe?
15  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Fake Blockchain Conference on: April 25, 2017, 07:37:42 AM
Blockchain experts have denied having any connection with the advertisement of a Blockchain conference that is stated to take place in Lagos, Nigeria on 14 and 15 August 2017. The said advertisement claims to feature leaders that includes Andreas Antonopoulos, Jason Cassidy and Roland Alexander.

In fact, many cryptocurrency enthusiasts in Nigeria have condemned this action and are working to get to the root of this. Part of the program of the said conference involves the process of registration, where unsuspecting individuals will have to send Bitcoins to designated wallets.

Therefore, surrounding evidence appear to prove this as a developing trend in scamming unsuspecting and ignorant newbies within the cryptocurrency ecosystem.

Would this affect the blockchain tech image, or not?
16  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Pay Your Credit Card Bills with Bitcoin in Canada on: April 25, 2017, 07:22:47 AM
YesToBitcoins, a startup owned by French Canadian company Ideas on That Inc. that was launched back in June 2014 offers a service that allows Canadians to pay their credit card bills using bitcoin. In 2015, it’s business model was analyzed for over a month by the Financial Transactions and Report Analysis Centre of Canada (FINTRAC), which concluded the company could continue to offer the service under present Canadian legislation.

Would you pay your credit card bills with Bitcoin?
17  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / ARAGON: The Ethereum based Startup from Spain on: April 21, 2017, 04:08:25 PM
The decentralized corporate management platform Aragon has seen Spain join the ever-popular crypto crowd sale race. Beginning May 17, Aragon will launch a month-long campaign to raise funds through sales of its token, ANT.

Aragon is everything you need to run your company on Ethereum. Cap table, governance, fundraising, payroll, accounting, bylaws. In few words, Aragon companies are extremely customizable, and you get everything in a unified, beautiful interface. That is why, this startup is focusing on serving the needs of nontraditional companies without standard hierarchies and a geographical presence.

In fact, firms or companies exist in order to create value by using resources to create products or provide services. However, intermediaries and third parties such as governments decrease the output of those organizations by imposing restrictions and creating complex regulatory frameworks. Aragon was born to disintermediate the creation and maintenance of companies and other organizational structures.

Do you know of another Blockchain tech startup from Spain to be followed?
18  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / CAMBODIA adopting Blockchain Technology on: April 21, 2017, 03:29:55 PM
The National Bank of Cambodia has reportedly inked an agreement with distributed ledger technology (DLT) startup Soramitsu, that will find the central bank contributing to its development projects.

Announced today, the goal of the effort is to begin joint work on new payment infrastructure prototypes using DLT systems. But while a host of central banks are studying the technology globally, Soramitsu co-CEO Makoto Takemiya framed the news as unique in that he asserted the central bank has agreed to go beyond "just studying" applications.

In detail, Soramitsu Co., Ltd. and the National Bank of Cambodia will be working to co-develop the open source DLT project called Hyperledger Iroha. Through a co-development agreement, the National Bank of Cambodia will study the implications of DLT, while contributing to the open source development of Hyperledger Iroha and developing new payment infrastructures.

Which national bank do you think comes next adopting DLT?

19  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / TorCoin: a new possibility for anonymity on: April 19, 2017, 01:05:46 PM
TorCoin is an anonymous cryptocurrency launched 10 days ago. It utilizes the X11 Proof-Of-Work consensus to allow miners to power the network of TorCoin. TorCoin is fully integrated with the TOR network. TOR is a decentralized, open-source network that enables people throughout the world to use the Internet anonymously by routing IP address information through multiple nodes on the network. TOR helps users defend against traffic analysis, a form of network surveillance which threatens personal freedom and privacy, confidential business activities and relationships, and even national security.

TorCoin offers several important features that Bitcoin does not. First, TorCoin rewards people for running a TOR node. Whereas Bitcoin transactions are completely traceable, TorCoin enables you to send coins anonymously. There is never any need to 'mix' or 'anonymize' your TorCoins - they are anonymous by default. TOR is fully integrated with TorCoin, which means that a snoop or attacker watching your internet connection will not know if you are using TorCoin - and other TorCoin users cannot determine the physical location of your Torcoin node. TorCoin also offers encrypted end-to-end messaging between TorCoin users.

It is currently listed on Coinmarketcap:

What are your thoughts on TorCoin, would you use it in addition to Monero?
20  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Poloniex delisting 17 Altcoins on: April 19, 2017, 12:37:07 PM
Cryptocurrency exchange Poloniex has announced it is delisting a record of 17 altcoins by May 2nd. The decision came in the form of a tweet yesterday, in which the exchange listed assets including Boolberry and Voxels are among the losers together with CureCoin. The altcoins to be delisted are the following:

BBR, BITS, C2, CURE, HZ, IOC, MYR, NOBL, NSR, QBK, QORA, QTL, RBY, SDC, UNITY, VOX, XMG.

I own curecoins, so I could tell the price decreased by 50% in 1 day.

Do you own some of the delisted coins?
