1  Bitcoin / Project Development / Research for decentralized Online Market (Ebay/Amazon-like) on: January 12, 2014, 12:12:37 PM
Hi,

I am currently researching the possibility and acceptance of an independent open-source and decentralized online market place working with crypto currencies for my master thesis.

The goal is to have an alternative to ebay/amazon.
Please note: This is primarily a research and might or might not be be actually realized.
This will basically depend on the difficulty and whether all problems can be solved.

Currently I am still at the very beginning and need lot's of input to proceed.
What I was thinking so far:

1. TECHNICAL THOUGHTS:
---------------------
In order to not have participant download tons of gigabyte of blockchains, I was thinking about dividing it into different blockchains.

1.1.) There will be one blockchain that holds all active listings, one blockchain which holds the reliability of buyers and sellers and a third blockchain which will hold all past transactions.

1.1.1) Active Listing Blockchain
This one will only always have the active listings and cut off past ones, so you will not have to download a lot of stuff to get started.

1.1.2) Reliability Blockchain
Can optionally be downloaded in order to see how reliable a user has traded so far.

1.1.3) Past transactions
Can optionally be downloaded to see all past buys/sells.

It should also be possible to see all listings/ratings (blockchains) via a server (just like blockchain.info does for bitcoin). Trading from a server-side platform can also be possible, but everything must/will be in synch with the decentralized blockchain.

1.2.) To use the platform I was thinking about a client that will synchronize the blockchain(s) and prepare the data on a local webserver to the user.

2. IMPLICATIONS:
---------------------
There are still some questions that arise:

2.1.) Buying/Selling
There must be something that will function as a virtual escrow.
If I buy something on that market and transfer the money into the system, it must be holded there and only released once I have successfully received my goods. Then my private key can unlock the "kept" money and it will be transfered to the Seller.

The problem I currently see: What will happen If I never release the money, even If I have successfully received the goods.
There will be no central instance where the Seller can complain to.

2.2.) Currencies
Here I am not sure yet how to include all the crypto-currencies or if I have to use an independent crypto for buying/selling.

Anyway, this is everything I have so far, so please post any ideas and critics if you wish.
Not only about the technical stuff, but also about the acceptance about this theoretical approach.

Thank you
2  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / BTC as payment option in a shop on: January 11, 2014, 06:49:34 PM
Hi there,

A friend of mine owns a little cafe and she was thinking about adding bitcoin as a payment method.
I already showed her how she could with the use of the blockchain app (phone/tablet) offer payment.

This however is still not in her intention, as she will still need to convert the money to fiat and actually does not want to bother with this everytime somebody pays with BTC.

Is there an even easier method for people with little shops to offer bitcoin payment and do not have to bother with trading it into fiat online?
3  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / [solved] Received Technobit Avalon - no power connector how to connect to power? on: January 11, 2014, 04:24:34 PM
Hi,

I just received two "24 GH/s HEX16A2 fully Assembled bitcoin miner" from Technobit.eu.

Unfortunately there is no power connector like in their shop-pictures.

How do I power up these devices?

This is what I think should be the power connector

Please, anybody any idea?
4  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Reliable Watt meter on: May 20, 2013, 09:59:15 AM
Hi guys,

I am looking for an affordable and reliable watt meter, so I can measure how much Watts my rig is drawing off the wall.
Any recommendations on that? Which one are you using?
5  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Mining Calculations (file inside) on: May 18, 2013, 12:20:10 AM
Hi everybody,

I just started getting active with bitcoins a couple of days ago.
Made various calculations and bought a testing card and have a few upcoming Projects,
such as the Stealth Mining Project.

I also made a nicely customizeable Excel file (created with MsOffice).

The only thing you will have to do is:
* Pick your Electricity Price
* Pool Fee
* and select the mining card.
* (also some other options, such as pool hopping, altering difficulty and block reward, etc are available)

After that you see a list of outcomes with different szenarios. e.g.:
* 2 rigs, each 4 cards
* 5 rigs, each 6 cards
* ...

So I have uploaded the document on various Mirrors for you to have a look at
* http://dfiles.eu/files/24nhckuwp

Edit

I would like to post the config of the best miner setup here at the top.
If you think your card does so well, it deserves to be here, cause it is fast as hell, please provide the config and a screenshot of your miner showing how long it has actually running at that speed.
7  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Memory Tuning my new Gigabyte 7950 on: May 15, 2013, 11:41:28 PM
Hi,

So this is now my actual first working rig.
I just bought a Gigabyte Radeon HD 7950 GV-R795WF3-3GD.
Upped the GPU Clock to 1100Mhz (which is the maximum) from the control Panel.

I am getting 550Mh/s at average.
Now I am a bit curious what I can do with the Memory Clock.
Is it good to lower it? And if yes to what extend?

Here is a screenshot of the current settings:

8  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / What meins "Retail" for graphics Card. on: May 15, 2013, 09:46:12 AM
I was about to buy another graphics card and noticed the "Retail" in the name:
Gigabyte Radeon HD 7950 WindForce 3X 3GB PCIe DVI/HDMI/2xminiDP - Retail

Anybody knows what it means?
9  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / PCIe and Risers understanding Questions on: May 13, 2013, 02:10:24 PM
Hi there,

it seems that allmost everybody here always knows how many powered and how many unpowered extenders are required. Is there some kind of formula you guts use?

Or do the short slots always need powered risers?
10  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / LTC - Why are you mining with 7950 and not with 7970 on: May 13, 2013, 02:00:40 PM
Hi there,

I am still thinking about switching from BTC to LTC mining and was wondering why most people mine LTC with 7950 instead of 7970. Any good reason for that?
11  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Litecoin Mining PCIe (x2 - x16) - does it matter? on: May 13, 2013, 11:58:22 AM
So from Bitcoin mining I know that it does not matter whether the card is connected to a PCIe x2 or PCIe x16.
Does it matter for mining litecoins?
12  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Project: Stealth Mining Rig on: May 11, 2013, 11:59:07 PM
I want to set up a closed-case btc mining rig that looks like an ordinary computer.
Is it even possible such a thing would survice with 4 GPU cards going crazy inside?

I know it is not that easy from what I read so far, but it should be possible, right?

My Plan so far is to separate the graphics card.
One should normally go into the pci slot and the other 3 will be connected via risers and placed at different locations inside the case.

What is your feeling about it? Do I need a water cooling system for that or will air be enough when there are many?
13  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / How many cards can a GA-EP45-UD3 handle? (PCIe x1) on: May 11, 2013, 11:36:41 AM
Hey everybody,

I am planning on buying a couple of GIGABYTE GV-R797OC-3GD Radeon HD 7970.

My current Mobo is a Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3:

It has the following
  • 3 x PCI Express x1 slots
  • a single PCI Express x16 slot
  • CPU: Core2Duo E8400 @3.6Ghz
  • RAM: 8GB

Regardless of space or heat, can I put 4 of the above 7970's on that board?
If yes, will the cards on the x1 Slot mine slower than the one on the x16 slot?
14  Bitcoin / Project Development / bitcoin security related incidents on: April 29, 2013, 12:44:32 PM
Hi guys,

I am trying to setup an open-source logbook of bitcoin related security incidents for hacks, ddos, trojans etc.
As a starting point the page can be found here http://bitcoin-incidents.com/.

The content is freely available on https://github.com/bitcoin-incidents/bitcoin-incidents.com.

If you wish to contribute information about it, please feel free to fork and submit, send an email or just help me here in the thread with useful links.

As this is an open-source project I am not going to pay for that, but in return offer the content for free.
Contributors via github will have the opportunity to appear on the contributors page with their respective BTC address.

If you have any critics to say or are willing to share some links, feel free to reply to me.

Thanks :-)

16  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Bitcoin Address creation on: April 25, 2013, 01:22:31 PM
If I create another Bitcoin address in my wallet, how can I be sure that this address has not been created by someone else?
I mean, creating a new address seems instant, what if someone else also has created the same address at around the same time.
What is going to happen then?
17  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / New block exactly every 10min? how? on: April 25, 2013, 01:12:39 PM
Hi everybody,

I am trying to get deeper into the understanding of bitcoins, but there are still a few things unclear.

So If we all mine bitcoins, then what we do is just to find a hash, that matches a specific criteria.
If this hash is found, then a new block is found and (currently) rewarded with 25 BTC.

But how can this happen exactly every 10 min? How can this be timed so accurately?

If I compare this with password bruteforcing, I have no estimate about the time, I will find a correct hash?

It seems that are lots of different ATI HD 7950 models out there.
Which are the criteria to look out for when buying a 7950 suitable for BTC and LTC mining?
