1  Economy / Computer hardware / [WTB] 4GB RX 500 series GPUs on: April 27, 2021, 12:08:57 AM
Fellow miners, even with sneaky methods of extending the mining life of 4GB cards the end of an era is upon us.

You've got the cards and they're essentially fancy paperweights now.  I want them.  Let's make a deal.

Bulk deals greatly preferred but if you're easy to work with I'm happy to make smaller purchases.  Exact price will be determined by card model and condition but in general I'm offering $120 per 4GB card.  While I'm happy to purchase from anywhere in the world shipping will be to Hawaii and that will be a significant expense for any purchases outside the US.  I'm unconcerned with what bios they're currently running as long as they are running.

Escrow from a trusted member of the forum community is required for all transactions with anyone I haven't done business with before.  Feel free to PM me or post any questions/offers.

2  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Dear Software Devs: Possible 4GB DAG file workaround on: June 19, 2020, 12:18:27 AM
Actually pulling this off is far beyond my technical capabilities, but I was thinking it might be possible to use two 4GB cards working in tandem to simulate an 8GB card.  If it's reasonable to split the DAG into two parts, each half could be loaded into a separate card.  Both cards could begin hashing together, passing control of the function back and forth between them as elements are selected from the portion of the DAG loaded in the other card.  As I said, the technical details of how Ethash works are outside my understanding, but as current mining software seems to lean heavily on pagefiles and does use system RAM could a pool of pointers be shared between two cards allowing them to work together like this?

I understand this would half the overall hashrate, perhaps even worse due to increased overhead, but I think it's safe to say those of us with a lot of 4GB cards would prefer that to having a bunch of paperweights.

If my suggestion is completely absurd feel free to flame and carry on with your life.  My only request is that your insults are creative or clever   Cheesy

3  Economy / Computer hardware / [WTS] [US] *New Items* GTX 1080, 1600w PSUs, Motherboards and more on: March 09, 2019, 03:14:29 AM
I recently finished crunching down my rigs and standardizing the hardware.  That generated lots of spare components I'm selling for prices below what I found on recently sold ebay auctions.  If you'd like to escrow I'll happily accept the services of any reputable agent here on the site at your cost.  Shipping is additional and will be calculated based on the items purchsed.

I also have a mountain of random things not worth listing indvidually (6-pin risers, cables, small switches, etc...)  I'll stuff them into spare space in the boxes as free gifts.  Everything is guaranteed to get something.  I would say at random but that would be a lie.  It will be based on my experience dealing with you.  If you're pleasant I'll put in something you might actually want, if not I'll curse you with a bag of used 4 pin molex risers!  /cackle

MSI Seahawk X 1080
Works perfectly.  It's been in my gaming rig, not mining, for about 6 months.  The hybrid cooler is fantastic for thermals and noise but might be annoying to fit inside a server chassis.

Pile-O-Parts
4 motherboards sold as a set for parts.  100% as-is.  I included troubleshooting notes to give a starting place for repairs but make no mistake, they're all broken in some way.  I'm not going to be responsible if you disagree with my notes so assume they've all been run through a washing machine and left out in a lightning storm.

MSI Z170A Gaming M7:  Powers on, posts fine, seems fully functional except the Bios resets if fully powered down.  I replaced the cmos battery but problem persists.
MSI Z270 Gaming Plus:  Doesn't power on.
Biostar Hi-Fi Z87x 3D:  Powers on but rapidly power cycles. No post
MSI Z170A Gaming M7:  Powers on, shows Qcode 00.  No post

4  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Looking for EVGA 1070 rom on: March 16, 2017, 08:43:00 AM
If some kind soul could use nvflash to dump the bios from an EVGA 1070 SC gaming, black edition (08G-P4-5173-KR) and send it my way I would really appreciate it.  I can't seem to find a copy online anywhere and I failed to make a backup for myself (feel free to shame me if you must.)

I was on auto-pilot updating bioses and accidentally flashed an MSI bios to all of my EVGA cards.  The update script no longer recognizes my 1070's as EVGA cards.  I wish the MSI script had been as smart.  If somebody knows how to force the EVGA script to flash my cards that would certainly work too.  Any help would be appreciated.
