1  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / All news that affects Bitcoin in one thread on: May 30, 2013, 09:27:30 AM
Hi Guys

Want to start a sort of "goto" thread for all interesting news that would affect bitcoin (even indirectly). I know we can read /r/bitcoin on reddit, but it is too focused on bitcoin itself. I'm thinking more along the lines of general economic/currency news items.

A perfect example would be this article:

-- Is the Dollar Dying? Why US Currency Is in Danger

Please post here if you find any interesting currency/economic news items

2  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / [ANN] [LTC] [PPC] [TRC] [CNC] [WDC] MyBitAlert Price Change Alerts - Others? on: May 29, 2013, 03:22:38 PM
Hi Guys

I got tired of missing those great pump and dumps. About a month ago I started to create some price change alerting/notification systems for myself, and it turned out to be quite useful.

Please have a look at www.mybitalert.com

My question to the alt coin community is - which other coins?

Right now I have

LTC  - Litecoin Price Change graphs
PPC - PPC Price Change graphs
TRC - Terracoin Price Change graphs
  - BTER's TRC will be added in the next few hours
FTC - Feathercoin Price Change graphs
   - will add BTER's FTC shortly
CNC - Chinacoin Price Change graphs
WDC - Worldcoin Price Change graphs

I don't want to add coins that are almost never traded or coins that never got off the ground.

Right now the system is still gathering data for most of those graphs, especially for BTer's coins. Therefore, the quicker we add coins and exchanges, the quicker we can have a full set of data.

Please keep in mind that when you suggest a coin, some exchange somewhere must actively trade the coin, and that exchange must have a "ticker" api.

Your feedback would be appreciated Smiley

For those of you who might have missed it, FTC jumped 8% in the last hour and 58% in the last day  Smiley Cheesy

4  Economy / Economics / MyBitAlert - Alerts when there is a price change [Email Alerts now ACTIVE] on: May 16, 2013, 01:06:11 PM
TL;DR: Wanted a tool to help myself (a total daytrader noob) to see what is really going on in various markets. Made a crappy graph that provided a ton of insight. Made money daytrading. Got p*ssed that I missed some great opportunites. "I need alerts" I shouted in frustration. Busy slapping toghther a project. Not finished yet, but already the data is really useful. Data can be read by a 7 year old. Soon you'll be able to get alerts on your phone where there is a price change.

==============

Hey guys

A few months ago I minded some litecoins. 2 to be exact. I really wanted to make that money work and decided to transfer it to BTC-E (I know, I know). I did that because they have all sorts of coins and I figured THERE HAD TO BE OPPORTUNITY THERE!

Looking at their interface you could not really see what was going on unless you had the brain of an elephant. I wasn't concerned about prices, I wanted to know percentages. To me it didn't matter what coin I own, I wanted to buy low and sell when the percentage increased above 1% or more. 1% a day is 365% a year, which is not bad.

Here's my original crappy graph:

Just from that one graph I could very quickly see exactly where there were big price jumps, something you could not pick up by just looking at prices. I learned from this (and countless other graphs, just like this) that you could play the bots. They also look out for drops in the market and it is usually followed by a big jump.

But I missed a few great opportunities. Big jumps of sometimes 8, 9%. I needed some sort of alerts via mail, sms, twitter, whatever.

So I started building it for myself and it turned out to be a pretty great marketable product. It is not finished yet, but I figured I might as well share what I have right now. I don't have candlesticks, I don't have fancy spread graphs since there are already more than enough sites showing just that. My graphs should be seen by a 7 year old, and they should understand it.

Not much happening over at MtGox. There was a 2.7% increase in 7 days which is not bad considering most banks offer 2% a year.

Poor litecoin took a real beating this week.

I'll be 100% honest in that I want to make some coins off this. Mining is not an option and getting coins are basically impossible. I want to charge a very reasonable monthly price for premium "on the spot" alerts. But I also want free 15 minute delayed alerts for anyone that signs up.

The only thing that can never be free will be SMS alerts, as I obviously need to pay some global network per SMS.

Otherwise, let me know what you guys think. The link is in my signare. Initial thoughts? Suggestions? Your feedback would be appreciated.

5  Economy / Speculation / Guys, relax. This up down volatility is all 100% perfectly normal on: April 12, 2013, 11:51:20 AM
In case you missed it, user venikk posted this on reddit this morning.

It is the price of silver in 2004, 2006, 2008 and 2012. Seems familiar?

The great thing about bitcoin is that it teaches a whole lot of people about markets, buying, selling, bull runs, bubbles. Stuff most people never heard of before.

I think that's great.

So relax, get your tools in place, because the next big run is coming around again... and again.

I thinking of coding something that will give me an early warning when things go haywire. Let me know if you might be interested in something like that.

7  Other / Beginners & Help / Two lower-end powersupplies going to one rig? on: April 11, 2013, 09:40:36 AM
Hi Guys

I've been reading and looking at other miner setups, and I never noticed anyone using 2 lower-end powersupplies. They always use one 1200W power supply to drive 3 cards. In my country these PSU's seem to come at a premium (they know that they can push the price for anyone wanting that much power).

I could get 1200W from two 600W bronze 80+ rated PSU's for half the price of one 1200W bronze 80+ PSU.

Is this recommended? Can I run the motherboard off one PSU and then run the graphics cards off the other PSU? Would it even turn on without it getting a "power on" signal from the motherboard?
