1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Kil-a-watt meter for 240v? on: July 19, 2017, 09:29:26 PM
The kil-a-watt that I have says it should only be used for 100-120v. I want to check my total wattage being used on my 240v items, but I can't seem to find a product that can do that.

Plus, it wouldn't even fit, because my 240v does't use standard plugs, obviously. I have a NEMA 240v twist-lock connected to a PDU.

Thanks!
2  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Getting incorrect shares even when clocked down to 1000mhz on: June 16, 2017, 06:38:39 AM
So, I have this one card, it might just be bad.
It's a PowerColor Red Dragon RX 480 8GB. 69.8% asic quality in GPUz.

It's stock clock is 2000mhz... seems normal right? Start it up... it's giving me bad shares... but no gpu errors in HWINFO.
Okay, fine. I downclock to 1800.. Still giving bad shares. No errors.
I downclock to 1000. STILL GIVING ME BAD SHARES!

I'm mad at this card...
I tried going back to stock bios
Tried new risers
Tried a different slot

Still gives bad shares.

It does, however, get a correct one every once in a while. I'd say, 1/5? But the rest are incorrect.

Anyone have any clues?
3  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / pico psu with 24 pin + 8 pin? on: June 08, 2017, 08:33:21 PM
I am trying to optimize my rigs, and I've moved to using server PSUs to power the cards. Instead of a normal ATX PSU for the motherboard and CPU, I've read some posts about people using Pico PSUs, but I haven't been able find many online. Which ones are people using? Are they cheaper than just a cheap ATX PSU?
4  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / How are you under volting RX 580s? on: May 30, 2017, 03:13:25 PM
I used watttool for RX 480s, but it doesn't work with 580s yet. Afterburner only lets you do Max of -96mv. I want to go further.

As a side note, I still don't have any idea what the power target percentage on afterburner actually does. I don't notice any difference when I change that number.

Thanks!
5  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / What issues can bad PCIe risers cause? on: May 24, 2017, 04:44:37 PM
I haven't found a single place to find all the issues that bad risers can cause. I'm pretty new to mining and so far have found a number of them.

Here are the issues that I've run into so far:
-GPU not even being recognized (Initially I thought this was motherboard BIOS problem)
-GPU going to code 43 often
-GPU causing more than normal black screen flashes

And the most annoying so far:
-GPU to cause errors in HWinfo

I kept underclocking and adding voltage, but the errors would just continue. At first, I didn't think this could be a riser related issue, but after I changed out the riser, the GPU errors went away and I was able to clock it back up to where I thought it would be. One week of frustration; SOLVED.

Anyone else see any other issues with their risers?

Edit: Forgot to add one. Problems with reported hash rate vs effective hash rate in pool mining.

Moral of the story is, test your risers!
6  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Where to find 220v PSU cables in the U.S.? on: May 23, 2017, 08:30:11 PM
220v in the U.S. is weird. There are a few different plug styles depending on how many amps it puts out (15,20,30).

I'd like to switch my miners to 220v because it's more efficient, but I can't find any cables. All of my PSUs do up to 240v.

What plug styles are people using? Where are you getting them?
7  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Code 43 on all gpus on: May 21, 2017, 04:20:34 PM
Woke up and checked on my miners this morning. One of them has code 43 on all the cards. First time I've seen that. Anyone else see that before? Restarting didn't help, but it still boots to Windows.

I have 4x RX 480 PowerColor Red Dragon 8GB
2x RX 480 MSI G1 Gaming 4GB

Windows 10, 16.9.2 drivers. Running Claymore 9.3.
8  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Can't find stable settings for PowerColor RX 480 Red Dragon 8GB on: May 20, 2017, 06:31:03 PM
These were on sale at Newegg a while ago and were part of my original mining rig. I have since then setup a few others, and I'm trying to go back and get this one optimized, but these cards are giving me so much grief.

They have Samsung memory, so I have just copied the 1750 straps down to the 2000.

Other than that, even a slight overclock is causing errors. To get them stable, I've had to underclock them to 1980 and up the voltage, but they only do ~24.7 MH/s with these settings. Are these cards just super shitty? What am I missing?

I've seen posts where people have gotten these to over 30mh/s, but I can't seem to get to those settings. Anyone have any other tips or hints?
9  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / How can I use a server power supply for mining? on: May 17, 2017, 05:23:48 PM
I've built 3 rigs now using conventional power supplies and they all work great. Some friends have asked me to build some for them, so I am looking into other options.

Searching Newegg, I came across this power supply:
https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA7GT5NK5071
I am curious as to how this would hook up. I currently use 2x 700W power supplies and use a 24-pin splitter, which signals the 2nd power supply to turn on when the first is turned on. How would this power supply know when to turn on? I don't see any way to connect it via the traditional 24-pin splitter.

Also, it looks like it fits into a server case.

I am intrigued by this user's build using a Rosewill server case.
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1859472.0

Keeping it enclosed would certainly be beneficial, especially if I was helping someone else build a rig. It could keep the components protected.

Could I use a traditional ~400w power supply for motherboard + SSD and then use the above mentioned power supply for the mining cards? How would that work? Anyone have experience with those types of power supplies?
10  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Why do my GPU drivers keep downgrading to 16.6? on: May 11, 2017, 01:46:36 AM
While testing timings, clocks, and voltages, etc, my card inevitably runs into issues, and pretty much every time Windows decides to downgrade my AMD drivers 16.6. I always get worse hash rates with 16.6.

I understand that Windows wants to downgrade to the most recent WHQL drivers, but the drivers I had installed were also WHQL (16.10.1)!

This problem is super annoying because I end up having to use DDU to uninstall the drivers and then reinstall 16.10.1 again.

I'm contemplating moving to Linux.

Is there a way to change the Windows rollback drivers? Is there another workaround? Have other people noticed this problem?
