21  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / You Know You Have Made It When on: June 25, 2013, 01:15:10 AM
OK,

The CoinWorld Server has beenn DDOS'd to oblivion.

For the attackers:

Yep we were totally unprepared for this you got us you're so cool you win have a nice day.

For The Rest Of You:

We're working to get things up as fast as we can.

This is probably an attack at Bottle Caps, I'm sure the haters are fuming over this incredibly enthusiastic launch and a coin that's getting too big for them to trash in only one day.

Rock On!

We'll be keeping you up to date as we determine what it will take to get going again.  At this time we still can't log in to start cleanup.

If this is just a DDOS we'll be back up smoothly as soon as these kids get bored.  In any case, we're not going anywhere and we'll be doing everything we can to make sure this goes smoothly.

FYI This has taken down all of the lottos, all of the block explorers, and all of the pools. Have no doubt it's our top priority to get those BOTs back on display  Grin
22  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Do you like lotteries? on: June 24, 2013, 12:48:41 AM
So, I've been working with MobGod to get some lotteries up.

It's only a couple of new coins at the moment and there's room to add more. There are a lot of crypto-lotteries around doing different things and I'd like to find out what people actually like.

At this time we've got them set up to draw every 6 hours - but it's too fast, I think.  There needs to be more time for a pool to build. But how long should that be?  I want your input.  Three days?  Weekly?  24 Hours?

Ticket prices - eventually, for coins with large, interested player-base I would consider adding multiple drawings (different ticket prices) per coin. However for now I have each coin set to one per ticket, and you can buy as many tickets as you like.

Raising the ticket price would make the numbers seem more "balanced" when someone plays a large amount, however the person who bought one ticket could still win even if someone else buys 1000. I think this gives the most flexibility - any reason to prefer a higher initial ticket price?

Of course with room to add a few more coins here, I definitely want to know which coins have a significant number of users who like to play lotteries. Speak up if you would like us to add a coin, please.

Right now the fee is set to 10% plus the minimum fee amount for a single transaction. This seems market-appropriate.  It does in fact cost money to do this so there's no need to go on about how everything should be free. But if moving it to 6-8% would massively increase interest we may consider it.

I think it would help not to have to show ads on the lotto site. Would you rather have ads in order to get another 2-4% in the jackpot?

Last, the site design.  I'm a programmer not a designer.  I'm still going to turn a couple of those buttons into images I think and that will help with the layout in certain browsers.  I've had strongly mixed reactions ("from OMG that's awesome!" to "it's fucking ugly") on the current background/layout. Your thoughts and constructive criticism are welcome, and trolls will be trolls so let's hear it about that too. Would a solid or more subdued background make the site more comfortable for you?

I think that good answers to these issues will not only help us to move forward but, being public, help other lottery owners to better target their games as well. So if you have some thoughts and would like to see the available lotteries improve, please share them Smiley

23  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / No Asic For Scrypt Fund on: June 15, 2013, 06:29:33 PM
IT seems there are people trying to make ASICs for scrypt.

I came across an interesting question in one of these threads, and I can provide the answer.

what if we DONT want an ASIC for scrypt?

In answer to this important question I will be starting the NAFSF.

Any donations to this fund will be spent on things OTHER THAN CREATING AN ASIC FOR SCRYPT.

Here is the fund address: LgoFdmpnFF9PBjtxqYckwJiS34kPf1R2TT

By donating to the No ASIC For Scrypt Fund you can have that warm fuzzy feeling of having taken a specific action which will not ever lead to the creation of Scrypt ASIC.

We won't even send you a T-Shirt or a hat that would give you away to other scrypt crypto-currency users who may want to see these ASICs developed.

Remember folks, operators are standing by! Our Wallet Is Open TWENTY FOUR SEVEN to allow you to show your support whenever you feel the need.

Again, that funding address is: LgoFdmpnFF9PBjtxqYckwJiS34kPf1R2TT

24  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Having a "full node" on: June 02, 2013, 01:27:17 AM
Hi I've been looking around to sort this out, and I can't find an answer.

I thought the bitcoind/bitcoin-qt clients were basically identical in function and ran a "full node" storing the entire block chain.

Is this wrong?  Even in what seem to be recent threads stating that the software is a full node but if I query it for transaction data it tells me nothing. I get an error that it doesn't have any info about that transaction, this despite saying it has the block chain.

IS there something that I'm missing, or is that information not available via JSON-RPC?  (In thich case what is gettransaction actually for?)

Also if bitcoind can't be made to operate as a "full node" what sort of software should I use?
Thanks for any help.
25  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Need To Fix My Boat on: May 23, 2013, 02:31:33 PM
So I'm selling some Doubloons.

WDC, BTC, LTC, maybe even MNC.

Oh wth maybe even powercoins but I want a billion of them like they're GLD.

I think the best offer in the spreadsheet right now is 10 LTC/K DBL I;ll go to 8/k but I only plan to sell 100 or so.

.8 LTC or equivalent for 100 doubloons anyone?  Smiley

26  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Trouble Moving Bitcoins - Be Aware on: May 23, 2013, 12:37:39 AM
EDIT:  I have my bitcoins now, and consensus seems to be that this is a growing problem with BitCoin.

As soon as BigVern heard about this he got in touch with me and began his own research.  I have no idea if this will impact how cryptsy operates at all that's up to him and except for a couple questions we haven't talked.

I changed the title because while I had the problem with cryptsy, apparently you can run into this anytime you send low fee transactions now.

How much is enough?  Your guess is as good as mine. Since Bitcoin can't possibly handle a tiny fraction of global transaction volume I guess you just need to pay more than anyone else has lately.

Suddenly a nice flat 2% at PayPal sounds mighty good to me.

==========================================================

Hello.

I'm having problems with Cryptsy.

I've mailed the support address an hour ago and not trying to start shit for BigVern but be careful right now.

Cryptsy is paying variable fees for withdrawals (in some cases no fees at all) and it appears that miners are rejecting the transactions or something.

You can see here:

https://blockchain.info/ip-address/67.176.55.157

that anything in the last hours with a fee of less than .0005 has failed to process and holds 0 confirmations even though later transactions have been processed.

I'm in this one: 4a33fd60819dc85edeb708763e2eda91d6e685b87e829cc4338da594720e53e7

So, I sat and watched a couple of opportunities pass by already while my bitcoin (yes .11... is almost all of my bitcoin) has sat in limbo.  The amount involved becomes irrelevant.

I would advise you against taking small amounts out of cryptsy for now, until there's a proper fee system in place, or something.

I'm so fucking pissed right now. I've been reading over in technical support and it sounds like it could take days to straighten this out. Or possibly sometime the transaction will "cancel" and the coins will go back to cryptsy.  I'm not sure if he can deal with that, or it just means that I'm screwed since cryptsy won't recognize those funds as "mine" any more.

Whatever, the more I think about it, the less good possibilities i can find.  The forum say BigVern has been absent the last few hours and ...

Well shit, I'm off to have a smoke. Hopefully he's at dinner or something it's not even 9 PM over there. HELP!

Is there any pool op or skilled/equipped enough miner here to get this in a block?
27  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / problem with transaction on: May 22, 2013, 11:06:50 PM
ok, so what's up with this, any ideas?

I've done -rescan no change.

I didn't put the exchange name in the title as it may not be their fault but, what's happening?

This is *ALL* My BTC so I'm somewhere between panicked and REALLY pissed off.

EDIT it';s now 16:08 local, this has been almost two hours and 0 conf.

29  Other / Beginners & Help / good pool fr 3Mh/s ? on: April 20, 2013, 05:52:49 PM
Hey I'm trying some mining, just with my desktops here.

I can get together about 3 Mh/s.

Yes, I know it's a drop in the bucket, (I can hardly even mine litecoins) but i want to play.  I'm trying to find someplace where I can get paid for hashing/mining.

The last couple of nights I've mined Slush's pool, that's a HUGE mistake for such a low powered miner.  I can't take any more like this:

IS there a good pool with straight PPS no scoring or geometry or bullshit? It might take me a year to hit the BTC .01 minimum payout over there. I'm in the southwestern US.

I'm not looking to feel like a "power miner" with my hash rate but if I'm pooling I'd like to get a few satoshis here and there. I've been messing with bitcoin for a couple of weeks and it would be nice to see a transaction in my wallet.

Anyone have recent experience with low hash rates and P2Pool? I haven't got it running yet but I guess it should still be better than solo mining right?

I mined a few shares at p2pool.org before I found out the site was a fake/trap (it's not just a p2pool node it's a pool with fees) but I never got credited a single share there. Or even showed up on any other p2pool page's stats.  Even though others that appeared to be in the p2pool.org pool were.

Advice o gurus?

Thoughts from the rest of you?

Thanks...
