1  Economy / Currency exchange / WTS 17 BTC on: October 01, 2013, 06:46:47 PM
Looking to sell 17 BTC via cash deposit into Wells Fargo account. I'm thinking we'll do it bitcoin-brokers style: I'll send BTC to a reputable escrow, buyer will make the cash deposit and send the receipt to escrow, escrow will confirm with me, and then escrow will send BTC to buyer.
2  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / How do you create a new wallet in bitcoin-qt (Ubuntu)? [0.5 BTC bounty] on: June 26, 2012, 06:01:13 AM
Seems like a silly question, but I searched this forum, searched bitcoin stack exchange, searched google, and didn't find an answer.

I just upgraded to 0.6 and after the block chain downloaded I tried to create a new key to receive BTC. It asked me for my passphrase, and I entered what I thought was the correct phrase (several times), but it didn't like it. Not to worry: the wallet is empty--I just needed to decrypt it to create a new key. So I can just throw the wallet away and make a new one (and make sure that I enter the passphrase correctly and that it works). But how?

Bounty might take a couple hours, but it'll be paid.

Just wondering how many rationalizing hypocrites we have on this board. Smiley
4  Other / Obsolete (buying) / Want to trade $35 in checking account for 2 BTC via Paypal on: June 11, 2011, 11:30:06 PM
Paypal will charge a fee. You will have to send first. I have started two threads asking to trade $ for BTC, and have received positive feedback in both. I won't scam you.

Also, I'm obviously offering a pretty nice markup.

Edit: Mods, please move this to the proper forum. (How ironic...I occasionally report threads like this. D'oh!)
5  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Let's use bitcoins to moderate this forum on: June 08, 2011, 09:44:15 PM
Really, the details don't matter that much. Bitcoins are good at micro-transactions. People are going to get tired of trolls on this forum very quickly. Why not set up a system where bounties are placed on flagging threads and posts which violate the forum rules? Think Craigslist but with a "flagging account" that posters can donate to and which (automatically?) sends coins to people who accurately flag worthless posts.

See my sig if you think this idea is worth a tip. Smiley
6  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Bitcoin on Google on: June 07, 2011, 02:04:32 AM
So I've been keeping track of the number of results for "bitcoin" on Google over the past week or so, and today it suddenly dropped from just under 3M to about 1.3M. Did Google just change their algorithm or something? Or do they try to limit the number of results for a search term by deleting the older or less relevant pages from their index?
7  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Transaction appears in the blockchain explorer, but I haven't received the BTC on: June 02, 2011, 06:51:13 AM
I recently made an offer to trade USD for BTC via Paypal. (Thread: http://forum.bitcoin.org/index.php?topic=11150.0)

I got a taker for 2 BTC, and the buyer sent them to the address in my signature (13gDRynPfLH3NNAz3nVyU3k3mYVcfeiQuF). I opened the (default) Bitcoin client and didn't see the transaction. My balance had not increased. So I went to the blockchain explorer, searched for my address, and found this:

http://blockexplorer.com/address/13gDRynPfLH3NNAz3nVyU3k3mYVcfeiQuF

According to this, my address received the 2 BTC. So I waited, restarted the client, waited some more, restarted again, etc. Still nothing. I'm on Ubuntu (Maverick Meerkat) and am using Bitcoin version 0.3.20.2N BETA. I thought that maybe I should download the newer version, so I did, but when I tried to run the executable (with GUI) I just got an error message, so I deleted the newer version.

My client does not appear to be downloading the block chain: it says 125600 blocks and no connections, and I'm fairly sure that it said that when I first checked to see if I'd received the BTC.
8  Other / Obsolete (selling) / Want to trade $170 in checking account for 17 BTC on: June 01, 2011, 09:30:12 PM
$10 per coin because I want you to send first and I may have to pay through PP, who might charge a fee.

See this thread, where I sent the $ via PP and didn't try to scam the buyer:

9  Other / Obsolete (selling) / Chess Lessons Redux (lower rates) on: May 31, 2011, 02:49:10 AM
(SEE SPECIAL AT BOTTOM OF POST)

I'm offering very inexpensive chess lessons. I am a strong Class A player (1950 USCF). Send me a private message or email me at "hester [dot] j [at] gmail [dot] com". Choose a time control, and we'll play on the Free Internet Chess Server (www.freechess.org). (I will walk you through getting onto the server; it's very simple.) After the game we'll go over concepts that you seem to be having trouble with for as long as you like. For now, I will offer this service before receiving payment if you agree to post a review of my services in this thread.

Why buy a chess lesson from me?

I have experience teaching math to both kids and adults. (I can provide a letter of reference from the mother of one of my former students.) This should transfer very easily to chess.

I have a firm grasp of the English language and can explain things clearly.

I type very fast (80+ WPM), so you won't spend much time sitting and waiting.

I'm currently offering very low rates, as well as an introductory special.

*** SPECIAL ***

No need to dance around the issue: I didn't get a response to my first ad, so I'm sweetening the deal. I will give a free one-hour lesson to the first three people who contact me, on the condition that they post a review of my service in this thread afterwards.

After that (or if you don't want to take the time to post a review), my rate will be .5 BTC/hour or .4 BTC/hour if you book multiple hours in advance and pay up-front. If you're concerned about deflation, we can discuss pegging the price to dollars.

Jesse

(Note: I will not lower my rates further. If I don't get a response to this offer, I will move on to something else. As much as I enjoy chess, it's not worth it for me to give lessons for less than .4 BTC an hour.)

My rates:

1.5 BTC per hour, or 1 BTC per hour if you purchase multiple hours up-front (this offer is valid at any time, even if you have already bought several individual lessons at the higher rate). 10% off individual lessons if you pay up-front.

These rates are subject to change if and when I receive positive reviews.

Feel free to ask any questions in this thread, via PM, or via email.

Can I make a thread that people can post in to get action on Betcoin? If so, where should I put it?

13  Economy / Marketplace / Fastest way to turn $50 in a checking account into BTC? on: April 22, 2011, 02:17:34 AM
I've been looking around, and it seems that it takes quite a while to turn $ into BTC. I have a Paypal account, but it's currently empty. I have $50 in a checking account (connected to a Visa debit card) that I would like to turn into BTC. What's my best course of action?
