1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / [ANN] NEON DISTRICT MMO RPG ERC 721 on: January 25, 2018, 09:43:08 PM
Neon District
MMO RPG ERC 721

About Neon District
Neon District combines the best of card-based RPGs and online MMOs with asset ownership, unique strategic gameplay, and a verifiable asset history via blockchain technology. The game utilizes the Ethereum Non-fungible Token Standard #721 (ERC-721) to provide individualized, unique cards for each player to collect, trade, play, and evolve. Neon District is a hybrid role-playing and trading card game set in a cyberpunk dystopia. In Neon District, each player collects and trades unique, fungible cards that evolve and adapt as they're used in play. Unlike all other trading card games, cards in Neon District become more valuable as they gain experience points, special abilities, physical flaws, and cybernetic enhancements. These cards come alive and create their own stories, forever stored on the Ethereum blockchain.

How Did I Get Involved?

Most of you may know me as the creator of Age of Rust, an Adventure game powered by the bitcoin blockchain. Today, I have the pleasure of announcing Neon District, a new project that I have been closely advising over the past few months. I was introduced to the Neon District team through the bitcoin puzzle maker, @coin_artist, who is one of the co-founders of Blockcade Games, LLC. We’ve known each other in passing, but last fall we were introduced through a mutual friend and we immediately hit it off. We realized that our passions and ambitions couldn’t be more aligned. We’ve both had a lot of fun participating in the crypto gaming community, and this project is a culmination of our shared experiences. Neon District has a strong team of developers and creatives, and I look forward to seeing how this game will evolve in the immediate future and coming years.

Introducing The Neon District World

Neon District takes place in a dystopian, cyberpunk future where The Mainspring has begun modifying its citizens by implanting “upgrades” or enhancements into their bodies. Though, these subjects are unaware their new devices have both control and surveillance functions that can be turned on or off at will. “Degens”, the last holdouts in the city, are determined to subvert and destroy The Mainspring’s new system. Can this resistance, on the fringe of society, stop them in time?

2  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Why was there no hard cap built in for tx fees? on: December 24, 2017, 01:28:28 AM
Why didn't satoshi or core developers set a max cap for transaction fees based on total sent? Seems like something that would keep miners from being able to exclude low-fee transactions at the same time keep the runaway inflation in check.
3  Other / Meta / Suggestion for a Project Development subforum under Alternate cryptocurrencies on: July 19, 2017, 09:44:24 PM
The moderators for the Project Development forum have had issues with lots of altcoin projects being posted there. The issue of posting project development type threads in the other boards under "Alternate cryptocurrencies" tend to get lost.  Having a place to post project dev threads that aren't bitcoin related in their own area might be helpful.
4  Economy / Services / Developer needed for small job on: July 03, 2017, 04:55:23 AM
I need to outsource a bit of small development while I work on some other things. You should be familiar with PHP and Bitcoin RPC/JSON directly to bitcoin-cli, not blockchain.info or other api's. I need a script to return the input addresses given a bitcoin transaction id.  PM me for additional details, will pay in 0.04 in btc

Example:
Input:
5f0ff1962e05e0c531cc5136b25f1be204792dd25a99edf6e59ee3df18fbde11

Output (in an array):

5  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Vote to reduce bounty for Rustbits from 15M to 10M on: June 24, 2017, 01:28:13 AM
A few people in the bounty campaign for RUSTBITS feel that too many tokens have been put into the bounty campaign thereby diluting the value of coins for sale in the token sale. The poll is to see if there's enough support to warrant the reduction of the bounty tokens from 15M to 10M.

If there's enough support, we will reduce the campaign bounty from 15M to 10M tokens.

Example for Twitter:
Total stakes for everyone: 576410
1000 stakes @ 15M = 2602 Rustbits
1000 stakes @ 10M = 1561 Rustbits

That sounds awesome, tell me more...

As is, the game is already 60% complete and by looking at our timeline (down below), you can see what's already been
completed. We are working on more content (missions, graphics, voices) to round out the first chapter of the game.
Earlier last year, we posted some information about the game and received some attention from social media on Steemit.
The excitement about the game drew people in and follow along. People reached out and let us know they wanted to have
an "old school" adventure campaign to play.

The prologue, is a small playable demo, which is really more of a pre-alpha release of SpacePirate. Keep in mind, doesn't
have full functionality yet, but it's meant to tell a small story leading up to the events of where things start in the full
release of the game. The prologue opened in April 2017 and already has more then 100 people playing the game. There
are a few areas to explore and some puzzles to solve as well, plus a little bit of combat thrown in for good measure.
I wanted to give people something to explore, and a mystery to solve while the rest of the game is in development.
A few players have finished the prologue in about 100 hours of game-play.

You can sign-in and play the demo by visiting our site:https://spacepirate.io.

"I believe the adventure game genre will never die any more than any type of storytelling would ever die"
- Roberta Williams (Sierra Games)

Why build a game like this? Like others, we grew up playing adventure and rogue-like games on the Commodore and
later on desktop computers. These games captivated the imagination and got me interested in playing games online
with other people. Playing games like The Pawn™,  Zork™ and The Hobbit™ and then reading books (Remember
Choose Your Own Adventure™?) got us interested in science fiction and games. We really enjoyed playing multiplayer
games like MajorMUD™, Kyrandia™ and Tradewars 2002™ too. Those games changed everything, because you played
with others, you developed a camaraderie with other players in a close community that often continued for years.
Recently, I found that people were still playing these games, but wanted more. They wanted to go on new adventures,
and make new friends.

SpacePirate: Age of Rust is a dark sci-fi role playing adventure game in an intergalactic dystopian universe. It features
turn-based combat against both game enemies and other players. It also plays like a dice-based D&D style game that
you play with other people. Make no mistake, at its heart is an adventure and a mystery that rewards players with
hidden treasures. The SpacePirate universe is an open game, a place where you can be as good or as evil as you want
to be
. You can seek lost treasures and solve puzzles, build a base to defend with other players or betray them and take
over their empire, place a bounty on their ships or claim another bounty for your own personal gain, or wander around the
universe and help other players.

The game takes place in the distant future (~2500 years from now) where space travel is common. There's exoplanet mining,
colonies, privateers, rogue mechs, and bounty hunters. A lot of the technology has failed and is no longer well understood due
to a large pandemic that all but nearly wiped out humanity. As a result, advancements in technology, science, and culture
stopped, the "Age of Rust" is where things are now breaking down, in what is now "present day" in the game. There are
dozens of colony ships in space that have tens of thousands of people on them that have been in a hibernation state for
over a 1000 years. Some wake up and realize that things are worse now then from before they went into hibernation. Not
everyone wakes up, some are dead as systems failed. Humanity is trying to get a new foothold and rebuild society, but
there's quite a bit of lawlessness to contend with.

Fight or Explore...

Point your MD100 autorifle at a mech that's hell bent on tearing you apart, launch deadly missiles at your sworn enemies'
spaceship to blow them out of the galaxy, or send drones into combat to weaken the defenses of another player's base.
Fighting and combat within SpacePirate is turn-based, the roll of a dice determines who goes first, how much damage you
do to them or them to you, and if you live or die. You can read more about how we make combat fair to ensure there's no
cheating as we are using a provably fair system for dice rolls on combat and other gameplay.

There may also be times where you just want to explore and not get into it with another player or just avoid spending your
days blowing apart artificial intelligence mechanical androids (mechs). Not a problem, within the game there's a dark storyline
with puzzles to solve and a mystery to uncover. There are abandoned ships, lost mines, hidden space stations, and secret
bases to go exploring in. Clues and puzzles are woven directly into the game, which you can share and work on with others
or keep to yourself and explore alone.

Lost Treasures...

Another aspect to the game that I wanted to build in was a bit of a treasure hunt.  The thought of going on a treasure hunt
and solving a mystery was often a lure that led me to other interesting works and projects. So for example, reading the book
Ready Player One or reading about the Forrest Fenn treasure inspired me to create a game where some of those
things were possible. I wanted to include a mystery and hidden treasures into the game for players to find and solve.
Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies were also the perfect way for doing something like that; no need to pack a bag and go half
way around the world. So the concept of hiding something within the context and narrative of the game was important. I didn't
just want to build a "hack and slash" only game; while combat is still in there, the ability to explore and seek a treasure without
combat
was an interesting concept to me that is built into the game.

WELCOME TO THE YEAR 4429 Prepare to wake up in a future where intergalactic warfare, piracy, bounty hunting, rogue artificial
intelligence, and the decline of human civilization is your reality.

RPG CHARACTER ATTRIBUTES - There are 13 character abilities such as IQ, Physical Strength, and Endurance which
play a part in the game. These attributes help to decide if your character will be successful in an event or fight. For example,
let's say your character has a strength of 8 and someone blows the airlock and you have to hang on for your life, the game
rolls a number against your 8 to see if you make it. You also have hit points and your armor has points which decrease if you
are hit in the game or increase as you level up or upgrade.

NOT A “PAY TO WIN” GAME - Luck, brains, and experience is the only true way to survive in the 43rd century. While some
upgrades can ease the suffering, it can’t win the game for you. The game is not designed to force you to buy things in
order to continue. You can buy some cool and fun things in the game, but they're not required to win. You have to use
strategy to outplay others skill to solve puzzles. You can't buy the solutions to the puzzles, and those you have to figure
out yourself.

MULTIPLAYER - Battling rogue AI, solving puzzles, and collecting bounties is hard work. You can play on your own or with
others to cooperate or player vs. player combat. You can also form alliances together to take on other players. Like everything
else in the game, it's optional, you can play solo and go off the grid lone-wolf style.

CRYPTOCURENCY INTEGRATION -  You don't need to buy any bitcoin, RUSTBITS, or the RUSTCHAIN cards to play
SpacePirate. Rather the opposite, you might end up getting these as rewards for solving puzzles or completing actions in the game.
Want to upgrade your weapon in the game and have cryptocurrency? Yes, you can do that in SpacePirate. The game also accepts
20+ other cryptocurrencies (Ethereum, Litecoin, etc) via ShapeShift.io.

TWO FACTOR AUTHENTICATION - Protect your online account and withdrawals from unauthorized persons via two-factor
authentication from Authy. Two-Factor Authentication is a very secure way to protect your online accounts. It works by
requiring you to identify yourself using two different things when you log-in to a site. The second factor is tied to something
'you have' (like a cellphone). So you can think of two-factor as something you know (your password) + something you have
(your cellphone). Authy makes it really easy to use Two-Factor Authentication on your online accounts using your smartphone.
They provide you an App that makes it easy for you to keep all your tokens and "just" works for a strong authentication.

MOBILE SUPPORT - SpacePirate can be played on mobile devices with WiFi support or with a 4G/LTE connection
on the browser on your device. Mobile phones and tablet support may vary but have been tested on Apple devices.

FULL CHAT EXPERIENCE - Extensive chat options including private messages, the ability to ignore
other players or add them to your friends list. Want to reward a fellow player who's helped you out? You can tip
them with Bitcoin in the chatroom or reward an entire chatroom. The chatroom and the game experience are integrated to
allow players to casually play and chat.

BLOCKCHAIN TOKEN CARDS  - RustChain Cards offer players the ability to collect, trade, and use cards in the game.
These cards will also be on the blockchain as a limited series of digital tokens to trade outside the game. Cards can used
in the game to award players special items and capabilities in the game. An example would be +1 to attack and +10 to
armor or an in-game item such as an elite class of ship. Some cards will available for free in the game as rewards for solving
puzzles or other achievements.

The worthy GM never purposely kills players' PCs, He presents opportunities for the rash and unthinking players to do
that all on their own.. -Gary Gygax

Some the of the reasons why you will want to play SpacePirate: Age of Rust

Strategy, role-playing, and adventure
You barter your way into a VK-99F starfighter, jump into your flight suit, and set off to build your own outpost on the
edge of the known universe. You upgrade the weaponry, shields, and beginning the mining operations on the asteroid belt.
Everything was going to plan until someone unknowingly flew right into your trap, set off a dozen mines and found themselves
stranded on your doorstep. They want to surrender, so you....?

Maybe you are scavenging on an abandoned colony ship that has been drifting aimlessly in the cosmos. You come across an
AI-enabled mech is trying to defend the ship against your hostile invasion. You roll a 20 and it rolls a 4, your blaster melts a
hole through its head and it slumps to the ground. Another steps out from the shadows, you fire your blaster again and roll a 1.

Or you're on a desolate planet, deep in the bowels of an ancient freighter that crash landed eons ago. You connect an
ion pulse generator to the computer bank and a terminal lights up, you find the first officer's log where he talks about
encoding the cache of bitcoins before an armed boarding party forced their way onto the ship. He mentions the first
part of the unlocking code. You scribble it down on your notepad and look up at the clock, it's 3am. The log continues,
it talks about an engineer who had escaped the boarding party with another code. You see a log where a lifepod had
launched towards the Egrin system. You smile and wonder how long it will take you to find where the lifpod ended up.

A good portion of the game is already complete, you can see below what's already completed. Development started
last year, but it's only in the last few months where the game really started to take shape from multiple development threads.

We hope that you will see the story we are trying to tell, what we are trying to do, and that it resonates with something
that you remember. The games we remember playing are ones that we were emotionally invested in, the games we remember
playing all night and thinking about how to get to the next stage all the next day. Those games had something special and
that's why I made this game, something to draw you into a new universe, a new story, something... special.

7  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / How to create a vanity burn address? on: May 13, 2017, 12:52:37 PM
I've seen some projects have created public bitcoin address with no known private key (burner addresses), how are those created? (example: 1CounterpartyXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXUWLpVr)

I plan on burning counterparty tokens, but any bitcoin burner address will work.

I figure if bitcoind ran out of memory or hit some major issue, it would log in debug.log, but there's nothing to suggest the cause of it dying.
11  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Question on prune and order of provisioning the download on: March 23, 2017, 09:02:54 PM
When enabling the prune option to 8GB, will bitcoind download the entire blockchain and then prune it back to 8GB or only download the last 8GB of the blockchain?
12  Bitcoin / Project Development / Age of Rust: An RPG Adventure Game, unlock up to 20BTC in final version on: December 12, 2016, 06:53:26 PM
SpacePirate: Age of Rust

I thought it would be cool to talk a little about this project that I've been working on and a little about myself and background as well. I thought it would also be interesting to discuss some of the struggles as well, not just technical, but working with other people on a project too. So, as you can imagine from the title, I'm working on building a science fiction based RPG adventure game that uses Bitcoin as a not only in-game currency, but also contains hidden treasure rewards in bitcoin too. Players can earn bitcoin by solving puzzles, defeating other players, and finding it as "loot" in unexplored areas of the game

Why build a game like this? So, right, I grew up playing adventure and rogue-like games on the C64 like "The Pawn" and "Adventure" on the Atari 2600. These games captivated the imagination and got me interested in computers, which then led me into a career in enterprise infrastructure for more than 20 years. Games like Kings Quest and Space Quest from Sierra were played all night long, sometimes with a high degree of frustration. Really though, playing games like Zork and then reading the choose your own adventure books got me interested in sci fi. So later on, playing games like MajorMUD and Tradewars was great, because you would really develop a kinship with other players that drove a community narrative, so many, many years later when Bitcoin came along, I wanted to really build something on top it and weave bitcoin into the game as a currency.

Another aspect to the game that I wanted to build in was a bit of a treasure hunt. Growing up, I was fascinated with those time life mysteries of the unknown books and other mysteries with lost treasures. The thought of going on a treasure hunt and solving a mystery was often a lure that led me to other interesting works and projects. So for example, reading the book Ready Player One, or the forest fenn treasure, and also the Treasure's Trove book with jeweled bugs were fascinating to follow. So some of these things were inspiration to build those things into SpacePirate, I wanted to include a mystery and a hidden treasure into the game for players to find and solve. Bitcoin was also the perfect type of element for doing something like that, no need to pack a bag and go half way around the world. So the concept of hiding something within the context and narrative of the game was key. I didn't just want to build a "hack and slash" only game, while it is still in there, the ability to explore and seek a treasure without combat was an interesting concept that I liked.

From a motivational standpoint, I wanted to create a world setting for this concept but didn't want to write a book, while I liked writing, my technical side comes alive. So, my background is IT-based, with over 20 years of IT infrastructure experience in aerospace, starting as NASA network engineer back in the early 90's. So naturally, I liked to develop, create, and design IT systems and when Bitcoin came along, I started to mine and joined this community. At this point, all I had was ideas, so I started to jot them down and think about it and kind of build a concept of a MUD with Bitcoin integration. So I started to worldbuild what that universe might look like in that kind of a narrative. It's very much a dark post-apocalyptic distant future (~2500 years from now) where space travel is common. There's exoplanet mining, colonies, a military presence, privateers, ai-driven robots, and bounty hunters. A lot of the technology has broken down and isn't well understood due to a large pandemic that wiped out about 80% of people about 1500 years in the future. As a result, advancements in technology, science, and culture stopped. That's where the "Age of Rust" concept comes from for this first "episode" of the game.  The idea being that technology is going dark, rusting, and falling apart, and that is in what is now "present day" in the game.

As you can imagine, a few people in the community got excited about this. Either through just me discussing it, or just in general when talking about bitcoin or RPG's, I would talk about "this game I'm building". As a result, some people wanted to invest into the game, so I've received some BTC to help develop and build the game. More people wanted to invest, but I didn't want to focus my time on crowdfunding right then and there, so I put it off.  However, in 2017 I've decided to do a crowdfunding campaign to accelerate some of the development in the game and add additional features and extend some of the game. That being said, I'm about 70% through development, so I think that's a good thing to discuss in terms of being able to deliver a working game for people that do decide to help crowdfund it. Here's a roadmap showing what's been developed and what's left in the game to still build:

There's still a lot left to build, so I've been working on that. Recently I've just put up a basic website to share additional information about the game. Like all things, it still needs work, I plan to add a video showing gameplay and other things. Then eventually will have some early access to the game to play it for those who want to try it out, right now the game is running with testnet bitcoin. There's a lot I want to do security wise before putting the game on the live blockchain. From time to time, I'll also hire people here from the board to help work on pieces of the game. I've hired a few of you to subcontract out pieces of the development. To me, this is an important thing with Bitcoin in general, to help the community within itself and what better way to do that than build something fun. In any event, if you have questions or comments about the game, even ideas or concepts that you would like to share, i'd love to hear them.   Cheesy
13  Economy / Services / Look for a web designer/developer for a small job on: November 30, 2016, 02:16:04 PM
Update: 12/9: Canceling the job  Sad

So here's what I'm looking for, I need to get a landing page up and I don't want to divert my own time to work on it. I'd provide you the basic text content and some feedback on what I'm looking for in terms of the look and feel. I'm building a web-based game, so I have dev skills myself, I just can't spend the time on this myself right now as I'm focused on my core project. This would be for a fixed fee of $150.

Requirements:
-Customize a bootstrap/Templated landing page site (I own a copy of the "Canvas" template on Themeforest which I will provide you to customize). There is 1 page with 8 sections on it.
-You should be familiar with responsive websites (html5/js/php/css). You will need to modify the template to look like an example of what I will provide.
-I need integration with mailchimp for email list signup (i already have an existing list and code)
-Some graphics work (adjust some graphics, create, etc) to fit the theme. As an example, I have artwork that will need to be resized and cropped to replace existing sample graphics that comes with the template.

To be extra crystal clear: The deliverable is a working HTML file for a website, not a design mock up.  I don't want a psd file, a png file, or jpg image of the work. I need the actual html for a live site.

You:
I've had some great luck with hiring some people from the forums and some epic disasters as well. The largest issue I run into are people who flake, they get excited about doing something "new" and then don't see it through, whether the job is large or small. I'm looking for a fixed fee to do the work, not hourly. I've hired web devs in the past for other projects so I have an idea of what this will cost for a pretty basic site. Yes, I can do escrow if you want to. I end up re-hiring people over time, so things work out, there might be more work in the future. I could hire someone from fiverr, upwork, or freelancer but I choose to support our community and would rather work with you and not at you, if you get my meaning.

You can PM me here or email me: admin at spacepirate.io
-Have some examples of your work please
-If you have negative feedback, i'll read through it to see what the story is to be fair, but prefer you have none.
-I have slack and skype to chat through the work.

14  Bitcoin / Project Development / Any tips for finding and building a team to work with? on: November 21, 2016, 01:56:56 PM
I'm working on my game development project and going it solo is taking a long time. I'm making progress, but would like to farm out pieces of it and then get other people later on to help with things on the marketing of it, etc. Everyone once in awhile, I'll get someone to help like with writing or things but most of the people end up flaking out. If you have a project in development, how do you get your trusted team together?
15  Economy / Reputation / Warning: Scammer is trying to borrow bitcoins in my name on gambling sites on: November 20, 2016, 06:45:01 AM
Just a warning to everyone that someone is attempting to scam/borrow money in my name.  They've made some fake hard luck story and trying to get bitcoins from you in my name. Some bogus story about divorce, a fake name, and running away with kids, etc. First, I never borrow crypto, ever, second authenticity should be proved by me signing a message with the address 1KzdSngS7CNPFz15pUBSK1P1Eo1R8qjTPm

16  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Looking for that chart that shows what altcoin came from what other coin on: October 28, 2016, 12:46:45 PM
A while back I stumbled across a graphic where someone had drawn the relationship between the altcoin and what other coin spawned it. Anyone have that chart?
17  Bitcoin / Project Development / What crowdsource rewards would you be interested in for the game I'm developing? on: October 23, 2016, 05:52:24 PM
I've decided to crowdsource SpacePirate to accelerate some of the game development. I've been doing the nights and weekends things and I've outsourced some of the game development to other developers here in the forums. I'm a big believer in supporting the community here. Anyway, I want to offer some interesting and unique rewards for the crowdsource campaign when I launch it (likely in late November or early December). So let me know what rewards you like, if there's something else you would rather see, let me know.  Grin
18  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Profitability list of proof of stake coins? on: October 13, 2016, 06:27:42 PM
Does anyone know of a comparison list that shows which coin is the most profitable for PoS? (similar to whattomine.com only for PoS)
19  Economy / Service Discussion / I closed up BitcoinStarter.com today on: October 01, 2016, 07:25:02 PM
All,

I just wanted to provide some transparency here in that I've decided to close Bitcoinstarter.com today because it just didn't do enough business to warrant all the security and services that went into maintaining it. The trend shifted to people starting ICO's and running their own sites and didn't need a crowdfunding platform to help them, everyone else just used indiegogo. No customer funds were held, everything was sent out direct to campaign/project creators at the time of a pledge. For any issues, you're welcome to contact me here via PM or send an email to admin@bitcoinstarter.com. You've been a fantastic community and I'll miss being part of the crowdfunding scene. I'll keep the website active with the note that I've decided to shut down the site for bit. Again, thanks for your support and community help.

20  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Looking for developer that can work with assets/tokens on: September 17, 2016, 01:23:43 AM
I'm looking for a developer that can code a php interface to a token-based wallet/blockchain such as Counterparty. I'm working on other aspects of an application that I'm developing, so I need to outsource this piece. I need working code in about a month or less, will do escrow, etc. PM me if interested. I'm open to another alternative to Counterparty as long as it's something that is widely accepted (exchanges, shapeshift support, etc)

PHP code using the JSON interface to a Counterpartyd server (or another non-cloud based wallet/daemon)
-No javascript/java or python wrappers
-No front end coding required
-Well commented, easy to understand code

-Send/transfer assets/tokens (send asset and quantity)
-Get a list of asset holders (list of all addresses)
-Get a list of assets for a given address
-List metadata about the asset (id, name, locked status, etc)

Working examples (as a php function) showing:
A complete send of an asset transaction (including signing and broadcast).
Return a list of assets for a given address.
Returning a list of asset holders.
Return a list of all the metadata on an asset.

example:
$result = $client->SendAsset($source_addr, $destination_addr, $Asset, $Quantity);
($result is the txid as an example)
