That's from March the most recent audit was in October. Do you think an accountancy firm would risk its license by fabricating an audit?

Most likely not but possible.

I saw this on r/CryptoCurrency today that Thether might be hacked by the same person who hacked Stamp in 2015.

Interesting development, awsome detective work.

Interesting, that 's the least we can say. And it would be more interesting if some courageous journalists would dig a bit further : Bitfinex, Gox, Stamp, Ifinex, BTC-e... . Who actually are the owners of Ifinex ?

Just to remind : Friedman states explicitly that the report is not an audit.

As I have been Goxed, Cloudstripmined straight through the bottom of my pockets, I tell you : if it looks like crook business, smells like and behaves like, just run away as fr as you can.

Do you think a Bitfinex scandal would affect prices? If so, how much?

Gosh, difficult and I do not consider myself knowledgable enough. It will affect prices, of course. But I think, contrary to Gox, will be assimilated very fast. I tend to hold on to the idea that
it might be a necessary cleaning of the system.

Can you provide a link to where to find a report ?

https://ftalphaville.ft.com/2017/10/02/2194319/tethers-transparency-update-is-out/

There's a dead link here but I do recall seeing a PDF somewhere a couple of days ago. However it doesn't appear to be a full on flat out audit, more of a skim, but there's no way Friedman would put their name to some absolute dogshit.

As noted in the article - "…these consulting services do not constitute an audit or attestation engagement, which would include a significantly expanded scope of procedures and take substantially more time to complete."

I had read that report already. And as Friedman says it is not a valid (measured to the standards applied for financial institutions). So only smokescreen. (weel paid for).

I have read that there is no official audit data provided by a competent body.

Then what you read was wrong. I have read the actual audit report from a well-established accountancy firm that most certainly is competent.

507  Economy / Speculation / Re: What'll happen when USDT collapses? on: November 21, 2017, 03:34:28 PM
I very much doubt it. If it was truly audited by a reputable firm then the question as to whether or not the USDT was backed should be clear. If that's the case then I guess we could be more at ease knowing that at least part of their claims are true.

I'm pretty comfortable that the funds are real and that has been proven. The hack is more of a PR and reputational problem that could cause serious issues. At the moment they are saying they can prevent the stolen funds being moved by amending the code. If that turns out to be the case they might survive this.

I have read that there is no official audit data provided by a competent body. And there is a very good reason for that : there are no funds. And the hacks, as well Theter as Bitfinex are false flags to cover exactly that : there are no real funds. It is only counting down now for the cover blowing off the kettle... .
508  Economy / Speculation / Re: What'll happen when USDT collapses? on: November 21, 2017, 01:53:39 PM
Something definitely seems fishy with Tether therefore with Bitfinex.
The thing is we will know for certain what's going on when it is too late if they are not coming with a full documented auditing around the corner!
Just try to avoid exchanges who deal with Tether as much as possible. Not easy as almost all altcoin exchanges deal with it.
BTC's price and the whole crypto market in general would definitely take a hit. However to guess how bad it really could get is not really possible imo. But there would be definitely blood on the streets. Lot of blood!

Tether-Bitfinex = extremely fishy. They seem to have a very strange concept of audit-transparency. Some people even suspect common owners. And sooner, rather than later, both are gonna blow up.

What worries me more is indeed how deep other exhanges are "Tethered". The biggest danger resides there, not so much for BTC directly.

Nobody is for censorship, but if you think you can have "discussion" with jbreher you are welcome to try it yourself. He just spams nonsense based on pulling what is being said out of context. That's reflected in his style of writing where he randomly quotes dozen of posts, and then using that to avoid any reasonable argument. If that kind of "discussion" is forced elsewhere it is not a loss, it's a gain IMHO.

+1 for moderators.

You can be your own moderator using the ignore button.

For the same purpose I use as example a Picasso's painting. It's just some dry paint on a board, total value $30, but it's worth millions. I like it because beside its price the number of picassos's painting is limited exactly like bitcoins, and the total capitalizations are alike.

I can make a digital copy of the Picasso painting and call it Picasso Cash. I even print the piece on an 8 times larger piece of canvas. This certainly reduces the value of the legacy Picasso painting to zero and makes me the true Picasso.

Mostly falsifications only push the value of the original upwards. In a few rare known cases, they are estimated on their technical perfection, with an intrinsic value of their own.

515  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: November 16, 2017, 11:14:11 PM
The BCH crew were very stupid to attempt to kill BTC while it's been on a pretty much unbroken months-long bull run, even more so with all the institutional talk swirling around.

Actually in light of all the institutional talk lately, their attack is starting to make more sense to me now. They knew that they had one final last ditch effort to win over some 'hearts and minds' to a BCH or 2X version of Bitcoin, before the CME group started firing up on 12/14 and trading BitcoinTM futures next year.

I don't think it worked, it looks like a massive fail to me. They have lost a lot of believers to their scam. And next year if BitcoinTM's price continues to climb, winning over even more new people and more institutional investors, then it will remain more profitable to mine.

Yeps. WuVer want to be in the good fellas club of Wallstreet and ROW subsidiaries. By hijacking BTC. Like all the new parvenues they desperately try to get in. But this club does not allow failure and has no mercy even for the club members, less so for would be 's. But yet, I also think they will not give up that fast.

Is freebitco.in down for maintenance?
It's down, but i don't think it's maintenance, probably just went down because of an accident.
I redeem 1000% bonus free btc and 100 bonus reward points everyday, so when this stuff happens i lose a lot. And it's happening often nowadays. It would be nice if the people who redeemed bonuses got a compensation bonus for losing their ability to take advantage of them. My ID is in my signature.
I've noticed on several occasions that the bonus timers get increased after a downtime, I too redeem 1000% bonus and 100 RP points everyday.

And how can you run a 1000% bonus combined with 100 rewards Everyday? That means even when you make 23 rolls a day, you need 2100 reward points extra per day... .
You get 1RP for each 500 sats wagered too. More on weekends.

So you wager 0.01050000 BTC every day? for making, as per today, maximum 0.00006164 BTC return?

I agree. This was and is no ordinary FUD. Bitcoin overnight losing 60% of its hashrate (security!) to an altcoin is a serious warning. Yes it returned but it touches the very foundation of Bitcoin.

The foundation of Bitcoin is selfishness and greed. If miners find a better way to fulfil that then they're going for it.

A BTC that depends on the good will or long term vision of miners has failed.

Agreed. "Profitable" means that someone (users, investors, traders, etc.) has to constantly be buying those coins steady off exchanges, each and every day for years, in order for the miners to make ROI and pay their bills. The BCH camp just sort of trivialized that part like it didn't matter, lol.

Miners are not going to just mine something indefinitely because some hashrate chart says that in a 12 hour window period it was "profitable" to do so. It takes a LOT more than that.

IMO longterm we will see a PoW change or even a switch to PoS.

Probably we saw the exact proportion of mining power in China. And greed is a universal human trait, but I can assure you that the new Sino-capitalists have cultivated it to a level even Wall Street would faint for. Which often leeds to the failure of to narrow sighted plans. In this case, I don 't think they will give up so easily. (Also something very Chinese).

So the CME group punted another month. Not ready yet.  Hmmm...

Sideways until then? Or slowly grind upwards?

Sounds like Novogratz took a big long bet. That's encouraging.

There is also this : http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2017-11-14/massive-hedge-fund-ceo-ready-add-bitcoin-investment-universe

But I wonder, what do they exactly mean by Bitcoin? With all the forks and especially the VerWuCoin, being so vocal and omnipresent, would that not be a bit confusing for all these
VSP 's?
