that could be a good thing because power will most likely always keep going up in price

What if we one day finally get energy to become free? (Like free wifi internet in Singapore, for example).

I noticed BitBar does not yet have a professionally designed Logo icon (its pixelated on my windows bar).

I can create one for this for some bounty, please see sample of my previous work converting Feathercoin low resolution logo to vector graphic that can be scaled to any size without resolution loss (be 16x16px or 16000x16000px;

This is exactly what Bitcoin needs to address should it become a real digital currency and not just fiat speculation.
1) Scalability - transaction size needs to be able to sale infinitely without increasing network size linearly.
2) Instant confirmation - not talking about reducing it to 1 min or less - if it's going to work it has to be instant.
3) Accessible - lets be honest, beyond us geeks, has anyone witnessed an average Joe using or mining crypto currencies?
106  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Solo Mining Setup on: May 01, 2013, 06:02:10 PM
For those of you who are still struggling with solo mining, here is copy and paste instruction for Windows.

1. Download and install CGMiner

2. Open Notepad and save it as chncoin.conf file inside this folder:
paste these codes inside the chncoin.conf file and save it:

3.Go to the folder where you installed CHNcoin-qt client (lets assume you installed it to default "Program Files"), find the CHNCoin-qt.exe file and right click to create a shortcut to Desktop
Now go to your desktop, right click on the shortcut you just created, then choose Properties.
Under "Shortcut" tab, navigate to "Target" field and add this text " -server" - it shall look like this:
"C:\Program Files\CHNCoin\CHNCoin-qt.exe" -server
Click Ok.

4. On your Desktop, Open Notepad again and save a new file called SoloMine.bat (make sure it's .bat file, not ending with .txt => choose "All files" during save).
inside your SoloMine.bat file paste this code:
"C:\Program Files\cgminer\cgminer.exe" --scrypt -o localhost:8108
-u AnyRandomUserNameYouWant -p AnyRandomPasswordYouWant
--thread-concurrency 8192 -I 13 -g 2 -w 256 -s 1 -E 5
--gpu-reorder --gpu-engine 1050 --gpu-memclock 1500
Above code assumes you installed CGMiner on Program Files - change this if you have a different path.
The last line of code is configuration for your graphic card, mine is AMD 7970.

a) double-click the desktop icon for CHNCoin-qt (created in step 3) - wait for it to get full block chain updated.
b) double-click the SoloMine.bat file (created in step 4) to Launch Mining!

Enjoy and good luck!

What is the size of the blockchain? 14000?  Huh Big as Bitcoin or am I missing something?

It's 30,000+ now
108  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: ** 2000 FC COMPETITION Design A Feathercoin FC Coin Design ** on: April 30, 2013, 09:19:45 AM

Are you still looking for Feathercoin icon design?
Just wanted to drop a question before I start working on it, otherwise if you have already decided on the winning design it would just waste my time.

I'm a professional designer/illustrator, and here is the base template I'm thinking of using for this contest:

I own full copyright to the above image - so there will be no problem if it needs to be released for open source distribution.
109  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Why I think Feathercoins will be a succes on: April 29, 2013, 06:55:40 PM
soon it will be a lot less profitable mining FTC as everyone jumps into this band wagon, which will only make it worse and maybe quietly kill the coin. Too fast a growth rate like this (from 27 this morning to 40 now a few hours ago) doesn't look good.

As long as you live in the first world country, you are capable of changing people's lives in second or third world countries.

But does that necessary mean you can't enjoy all the comfort you currently take for granted? Just watch some documentary videos on how life is in certain parts of the world, it would not be too far stretch from your comparison of the person living in a mansion and a homeless one.

Life is not fair, but that is how things are.
113  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Mining Rig Build Opinions on: April 29, 2013, 04:57:41 AM
I did a cost comparison with Excel file for 2GPU, 3 GPU and 4 GPU builds => they all turn out to be almost the same cost per Kh/s. But you do get slightly better deal by installing AMD 7970 vs .7950 (based on how they are currently priced where I live - NZ).

With 3 GPU builds, however, it may have more resale value, since the motherboard, powersupply, etc are of better quality.
