I heard New Zealand is nice, but I've never been there. I can see people complaining about Jacinda Ardern, but mostly it's because of policy disagreements and Covid related restrictions.

If I had enough Bitcoin, I'd probably go there.

“If folks want to bury their head in the sand, they can go right ahead. The reality is Bitcoin is helping millions of people protect their assets from confiscation and censorship and debasement and demonetization everywhere from Cuba to Palestine to Nigeria to China.”-
~ Alex Gladstein, Human Rights Foundation

WalletScrutiny.com does its part by laying the groundwork for an important aspect of bitcoin, the scrutiny of the software that allows people to use bitcoin.

7  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: walletscrutiny: the majority of "wallets" are either custodial or closed source on: July 15, 2022, 07:56:08 AM
WalletScrutiny provides a great service for those who aren't technical and self custody is on the rise. Also, delete coinbase Cheesy

It doesn't end with that as well. WalletScrutiny is currently running a donation campaign.

**Update**

WalletScrutiny is currently running a donation campaign. So far we've 'analyzed':

- 2790 in Cryptocurrency apps in Google Play
- 651 in the Apple Store
- 288 hardware wallets
- 44 bearer tokens

Big thanks to some friends in BitcoinTalk who actually provided some materials regarding some of the archived bearer tokens.

9  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Which hardware wallet to buy? on: July 08, 2022, 08:10:18 AM
Best is subjective.

Every single individual will have an opinion on what is "the best".

But it's time to approach this from a more technical perspective.

WalletScrutiny approaches this problem through this methodology:

Quote
To put it dramatically, we search for the obvious potential to empty all the wallets of all the users at once. Could the provider of the wallet, with enough criminal energy, defraud all its users at once, without this being possible to be detected before it is too late? (If he could in theory, then a sufficiently motivated criminal could also put him under duress to steal your funds or manipulate him into stealing your coins with social engineering or with a backdoor.)

This horror scenario is possible whenever the provider can obtain a copy of the wallet backup and thus access all the users’ funds at once. He could collect the backups and once the amount of coins he could access stops growing, empty all the wallets in one big transaction. This form of scam got known as “retirement attack”.

Seeing that some wallets have millions of users, it is plausible to assume that some wallets manage billions of dollars. This would be a huge incentive for criminally inclined employees, even if the wallet was not set up to scam its users from the start, which probably is the case for some wallets, too.

11  Local / Others (Pilipinas) / NCR 90.75% Double Vaccinated, 45% Positive Rate = Arrest the unvaccinated? on: January 07, 2022, 09:23:10 AM
Isa sa mga adbokasiya ng bitcoin ay ang kalayaan.

Decentralized, peer to peer, censorship resistant currency.

Eto po ay mga facts:

MANILA – Vaccine czar Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr. on Thursday said about 102.86 percent of the National Capital Region (NCR)'s target population have received at least one dose of Covid-19 vaccine.

Galvez, who is also the chief implementer of the National Task Force (NTF) against Covid-19, said more than 8.8 million individuals or 90.75 percent of the Metro Manila’s target population are now fully vaccinated against the dreaded disease.

Iyan po ay noong Nobyembre. Ngayong Enero:

Quote
The National Capital Region’s (NCR) positivity rate has further increased to 45 percent, independent research group OCTA said on Thursday, Jan. 6.

Muli:

1. NCR 90.75% double vaccinated, 102% single dose vaccinated
2. 45% Positivity Rate

Conclusion:

12  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Cryptocurrency written in Python on: December 31, 2021, 10:41:25 AM
It's sha256, similar to bitcoin but there are a couple differences, you can find them in README. You can start mining with the miner.py file

Won't this be vulnerable to a 51% attack? Bitcoin is using 256, and if even a single miner decides to mine your chain, they'd have the hash power.
13  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / A question about inputs and outputs - re: Aantonop's bitcoin book on: December 22, 2021, 08:50:44 AM
So I was starting to read Andreas' Antonopoulos' "Mastering Bitcoin" and I was wondering about this diagram:

Quoting from the book

Quote
In summary, transactions move value from transaction inputs to transaction outputs. An input is a reference to a previous transaction’s output, showing where the value is coming from. A transaction usually includes an output that directs a specific value to a new owner’s Bitcoin address and a change output back to the original owner. Outputs from one transaction can be used as inputs in a new transaction, thus creating a chain of ownership as the value is moved from owner to owner

My question is:
 Huh

Does "Output 1" mean that there will be a new "Input" for Alice's account?

15  Local / Pamilihan / Re: Another KYC requirements ng coins.ph? on: December 10, 2021, 01:15:26 AM

Coins.ph is a custodial service.

Hi! I'm trying to do research by compiling a mega-exhaustive list of desktop bitcoin wallets.

It has to support BTC (If it's a multicurrency wallet)
~Snipped~
You might want to mention if you're only looking for those with source codes [to check if you can reproduce them] or not, but I'll list one for each:

  • Guarda - On some review sites, they're claiming it's open-source, but AFAIK it's "not" completely open-source + it's connected to "Changelly [the same goes for Atomic]"!
  • Jaxx - Closed-source.

Note: I would not recommend using either of them to store anything [especially the first one]!

First time I heard of Guarda - thank you! We categorize closed source accordingly Smiley
17  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Help with research - Comprehensive list of desktop bitcoin wallets on: December 09, 2021, 01:20:45 AM
I don't know if people will agree with exodus and coinomi both multi currency wallet, but it's worth mentioning. Also blockstream green wallet.
Another one that I know is atomic wallet but it is also close source. I can not use close source wallet because people do not know if close source wallets have malware, it is good to use open source wallet.

I do not know what the OP want to use it for, may be he will need all the wallets, both open source and close source, but in his research writing he has to include the disadvantages of close source, especially that people do not know if the wallet is having malware or not.

Thanks, I do have those in the list, and in contact with the devs.

Can't really blame them. Many of these projects were previously open source. Then bad actors started copying the code verbatim, slapping on a different logo and name, or worse, pretending to be the real app and then stealing users funds.

A security model that some now embrace is "security through obscurity".

To each his own, I guess.
18  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Help with research - Comprehensive list of desktop bitcoin wallets on: December 09, 2021, 01:17:05 AM
Whta I am going to suggest is already on your list but if you are looking for a way to use an android app on your desktop is to use an android emulator like bluestacks for example where you can install wallets that are only available on android or both android and app like electrum.

Thanks! I have listed several hundreds on walletscrutiny.com.

I work with them by collating data and then categorizing them. Then somebody else tests for reproducibility.
19  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Help with research - Comprehensive list of desktop bitcoin wallets on: December 09, 2021, 01:15:00 AM
Atomic wallet (https://atomicwallet.io) it's multicurrency and obviously closed source.
Airgap wallet (https://airgap.it) Multicurrency and Open source.

You could also include libbitcoin:

https://libbitcoin.info

Here's the github link:

https://github.com/libbitcoin/libbitcoin-system

It's more of a toolkit than a wallet, but you can use it to create a Bitcoin wallet on your desktop...

Thank you! I will take a look at it now
