1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][CLAM] CLAMs, Proof-Of-Chain, Proof-Of-Working-Stake, a.k.a. "Clamcoin" on: February 23, 2016, 02:06:15 AM
I always make a habit of checking GPG signatures of downloads (especially for crypto clients), but there are no GPG signatures for the clamclient downloads.

After what happened with Linux Mint, I think this is a good habit to maintain.
2  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Just-Dice.com : now with added CLAMs : Play or Invest on: February 12, 2016, 02:10:29 PM
I think the solution for this is to offer staking-only to those people, so you can continue to collect staking rewards (minus the 10% commission) without being involved in the bankroll at all.

It will take me a while to implement the staking-only feature. Until I do, I won't drop the maximum offsite multiplier below 25x.

Couldn't you more or less implement this as a negative offsite amount?
People who want to go back to the old situation with no offsite would need to put -90% of their onsite coins as their "offsite" investment.
3  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Just-Dice.com : now with added CLAMs : Play or Invest on: February 07, 2016, 10:42:53 PM
so the max profit has halved, but the amount invested is still above 1,000,000.
Is this because not everybody was max leveraged?

That's the onsite investment, which is not affected by this change.

Quote
23:40:33 INFO: 832,344 CLAM were dug up and 747,164 CLAM were staked for a total of 1,579,508 CLAM
23:40:33 INFO: Just-Dice's onsite bankroll of 1,126,021 CLAM represents 71.29% of that amount
23:40:33 INFO: the total bankroll of 41,993,841 CLAM is made up of 1,126,021 CLAM onsite and 40,867,820 CLAM offsite
23:40:33 INFO: the average multiplier (total / onsite) is 37.29x

Very sensible change dooglus. I used a high multiplier to keep earning a fair share, but never really felt comfortable with that.

Never the less, I like the offsite concept as it means one can keep Bitcoin offsite without the need to convert it into CLAM.

No, this is the only entry in my transaction for Myriadcoin (which I didn't mine at all):

Oh it's credited by auto exchange.
Did you change auto exchange target coin before?

Auto exchange coin is determined when your mined coin is about to be confirmed.
It seems like you once selected myriadcoin and one day you changed it to jackpotcoin.

What coin is set for auto exchange now?

We will check your account if there's error.

No, I selected Darkcoin as autoexchange coin (also had Bitcoin a short while), never any others.

8  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Pools (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][POOL] Mining Pool Hub - Auto profit switching / Auto exchange to alt coins on: March 08, 2015, 12:00:43 PM
Another problem.

I have auto exchange set to Darkcoin, yet when going through the different coins I see that I have had coins auto exchanged into:

Jackpotcoin
Myriadcoin Groestl
Maxcoin
Feathercoin
(and maybe more as I didn't check all)

What's the point of autoexchange if it sometimes randomly changes your coins into something else that you didn't ask for. The transactions into those coins show "credit auto exchange", so these are not coins that were mined.

It doesn't help that there isn't an overview of all the coins one has, such problems would be visible much faster if there were such an overview.
9  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Pools (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][POOL] Mining Pool Hub - Auto profit switching / Auto exchange to alt coins on: February 21, 2015, 03:44:19 AM
We know this blind like auto exchange would make you really stuffy.
We will add a dashboard to show your all coins, where and how much coins are waiting to be exchanged.

Thanks! For me this feature would be enough. If I can see where my mining rewards are and that they have not disappeared I am happy.
10  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Pools (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][POOL] Mining Pool Hub - Auto profit switching / Auto exchange to alt coins on: February 17, 2015, 11:04:16 AM
I am using the Auto exchange feature (to Darkcoins), but while I see AE entries in the transaction list of the other coins, they don't appear to get credited to my Darkcoins wallet....

What's going on, or am I doing something wrong?

Hi
There was some error on validating darkcoin transaction id lately.

It's fixed now.
Sorry for inconvenience.

As far as I can tell I never got any Darkcoins for the other X11 coins that I mined in auto-exchange mode. I never saw a credit from Auto exchange and the number of Darkcoins suddenly grew less fast. After which I switched to mining Darkcoins only, and the Darkcoins started growing again at a more normal rate. Two days ago I thought I'd try auto exchanging in Bitcoins, since I am not mining Bitcoins directly everything that comes in there must come from auto-exchange. But there has been no auto-exchange credit to my Bitcoins for the last 2 days (there were some before).

I am still missing a number of Darkcoins from the period I mined X11 with auto exchange into Darkcoin, and now I am missing a few days worth of auto-exchange into Bitcoins.

It would greatly help if the dashboard would show how many coins we have in auto-exchange credit, that way we can see what is where and if it's still somewhere.
Right now it looks to me as if my mining reward just disappeared.

In the meantime I've switched back to only mining Darkcoins again, but that's a pity I like the auto-exchange feature... if it works.

EDIT: Since I posted this I have received some small fractions of Bitcoin and also saw a small Darkcoin credit appear, which must have been from mining other X11 coins several days ago. I guess there is a huge lag between the actual mining and receiving the credits when using autoexchange.

RS business plan:

1. Issue shares.

2. Shut down the site causing the shares to loose their value.

3. Buy back the shares for a fraction of the price.

4. $14 million Profit

I have the feeling this guy is going to spend some time in court in the not too distant future, might not have too much time left to work on v3, let alone run it for the long term.
15  Other / Politics & Society / IMF floats idea of one time supertax on net wealth on: October 11, 2013, 06:40:47 PM
The latest IMF idea is a one time tax on net wealth:

Quote
The sharp deterioration of the public finances in
many countries has revived interest in a “capital levy”—
a one-off tax on private wealth—as an exceptional
measure to restore debt sustainability. 1
The appeal is that such a tax, if it is implemented before avoidance
is possible and there is a belief that it will never be
repeated, does not distort behavior (and may be seen
by some as fair). There have been illustrious supporters,
including Pigou, Ricardo, Schumpeter, and—until he
changed his mind—Keynes. The conditions for success
are strong, but also need to be weighed against the risks
of the alternatives, which include repudiating public
debt or inflating it away (these, in turn, are a particular
form of wealth tax—on bondholders—that also falls on
nonresidents).

There is a surprisingly large amount of experience to
draw on, as such levies were widely adopted in Europe
after World War I and in Germany and Japan after
World War II. Reviewed in Eichengreen (1990), this
experience suggests that more notable than any loss of
credibility was a simple failure to achieve debt reduction,
largely because the delay in introduction gave
space for extensive avoidance and capital flight—in turn
spurring inflation.

The tax rates needed to bring down public debt to
precrisis levels, moreover, are sizable: reducing debt
ratios to end-2007 levels would require (for a sample of
15 euro area countries) a tax rate of about 10 percent
on households with positive net wealth.2

1. As for instance in Bach (2012).

2. IMF staff calculation using the Eurosystem’s Household
Finance and Consumption Survey (Household Finance and
Consumption Network, 2013); unweighted average.

16  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Just-Dice.com : Invest in 1% House Edge Dice Game on: October 01, 2013, 06:14:13 AM
[...] there is arguably negative consequences. If something has no positive side, and quite possibly a negative side, then it is only rational to get rid of it.

First that you believe something has no positive side doesn't make it so. My belief for instance is that taking measures like the one you propose has no positive sides and quite possibly negative ones.

Besides your logic could be used to argue to get rid of gambling for which there's quite clearly a very big negative side and some would argue no positive side.
17  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Just-Dice.com : Invest in 1% House Edge Dice Game on: September 30, 2013, 05:39:13 PM
So a loss like the one we suffer now isn't distributed evenly over investors. So the losing investors will be unhappy. So the site will lose investors, which is bad for everyone.

That, in a nutshell, is my argument why invest-trading hurts j-d. And the complementary argument is: there's no good reason to *want* invest-trading: j-d already has a gambling mechanism. Investments should be just that: investments.

Had Nak's run gone the other way, they would have been the winning investors, and they would have been quite happy to take a larger share of the gains I am sure. Nobody would now be calling for any tinkering of the system either.

There's no need to do anything. Investing in JD is a gamble anyway and in the long term daytrading will likely make no difference to those who stay invested. Besides we've only heard from the winners because they feel they've been smart, just like Nak feels he's a smart gambler whatever he calls himself.

My feeling is that some people who took a hit are pissed off that other people managed to make some money. While this is understandable, tinkering with the system just to appease them, with measures that probably don't work anyway and make no difference overall are just a waste of time.

There's even a chance that such tinkering is mildly detrimental for the site. What if a gambler decides to invest while he doesn't play? Say he wants to make a few rolls each day and always stops after 15 minutes, hoping to have made a profit, then reinvests. Why would you want to prevent that and either dissuade him from gambling or from investing or from keeping his money on the site. My impression is that are quite a lot of people doing both gambling and investing.

More importantly however, whatever you think the reason for this is, please look at nakowa's yesterday winning charts and tell me that there is no "exploitable" pattern to it:

That's all easy with hindsight. The hard part is being sure of the exploitable pattern of Nakowa's next run.

Similarly, I've noticed BTC trading in the 130-145 range over the last weeks. What's stopping you from selling at say 142 and buying back at 135 repeatedly? Would have been a winning strategy over the last weeks/months. What could possibly go wrong...
19  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Just-Dice.com : Invest in 1% House Edge Dice Game on: September 30, 2013, 01:58:44 PM
You lose when you divest at +1000 and the profits go to +5000 and never come back.  Or invest at -1000 and profits drop to -5000 and don't come back.  But if they keep going past both your trigger points (-1000 and +1000, say) then you win, and the committed investors lose.

This is like betting on a trading range of a stock. If it were that easy it would be easy to get rich.

There's all kinds of reasons this can go wrong. For instance you get back in at -1000, only to see it drop to -5000, then you see what looks like a trading range between -6000 and -3000 and start to play that. You eat your loss and start trading that range again, yet as you divest at -3000, it instead goes back up to say 1000 and stays there for days.... eventually you decide to step in again at 1000 forfeiting the gains that would have compensated your earlier loss. Etc, etc...

These strategies only look easy while they work... but it's just luck.
20  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Just-Dice.com : Invest in 1% House Edge Dice Game on: September 27, 2013, 04:45:07 PM
The edge should under no circumstances be changed.  The 1% edge is why just-dice has a market advantage and 2 million BTC wagered.

If he raises it, gamblers will instantly go play at a competitor with 1%.   Adjust the max bet if you'd like, but changing the edge would be a terrible business decision.

Also what I think. A house edge at 1% is simple and as doog says no need add small print like "except if you are betting more than 50 btc...". Then what do you do if there is a huge swing in the value of btc? You have to start taking this into account too... maybe in two years betting 10 btc is like betting 50 now? I foresee endless discussion about the level at which the house edge should start going up. Spare us the aggravation and just leave it at 1% for all bets.

Someone suggested an investment cap, I can't agree with that either. Fixing a maximum when the price of bitcoin can be volatile fails anyway as an attempt to fix the max bet in the longer term. Besides I much prefer to let investors set the maximum bet it in accordance to the risk they want to take.
