Why open source is important : - It provide scrutiny from the community and thus security of the code. - It provide trust (no I won't run a pre-compiled binaries that could contain any malaware, coin stealer, backdoor, or security critical bug) - It help the common good buy providing solution to every one. - Community will make the code better by correcting bugs, or adding new functionality. - it provide a larger community
Why it doesn't matter if someone copy cat it : - Community will stay behind the original - If you are confident that your thing is the best then why would you fear a pale copy. - For a copy to even grab attention, it would need a clever new functionality, so it will take time to develop. - What would be the incentive to make a copy : 1)make a scam and profit : then it would be easily debunked. 2)make a better coin : if it is really better then it's a good thing, but it would be easier to add it directly to the original.
Sly
I believe most of these sentiments were shared by Satoshi (or I could be talking out of my ass). I think you strongly overestimate the desire of the community to launch a clone. Ripple, for example, has yet to be cloned, and it's been open source for a while now. You might be shooting yourself in the foot by going this route.

If this is for the Scrypt-Bitcoin coin, then for the love of God, call it Scryptcoin
It's pure PoS coin. No SHA256, no Scrypt. Pure PoS can not function. I feel sorry for whatever morons buy into this shit without understanding how the protocol works.

if i were a big banker or a part of the financial government i would create a NEW totally premined coin with many, many billions of coins
And who's gonna buy your premined government coin? That's the error right there. You need mass adoption and until you reach critical mass (so you can force it on everyone) you need the masses to think it's just another regular crypto coin in order for them to bid it up like crazy, thinking they'll all get rich. Or do you think the masses are gonna sell their good and mortgage their houses to pay $10,000 for a premined government coin so they and the elite can transfer 90% of their wealth? But that's exactly what the masses will do if they think they're getting rich, cause hey, look how fast and how high Bitcoin went. So the government is doing just as you're saying, if ixCoin is the next coin, you can bet they have all taken their positions and now they'll sit back quietly as the wealth transfer takes place: Voluntarily! Thanks for the German funny. lol. Your theory isn't too crazy until you throw ixcoin into the mix.

Oh and one more thing, they will dilute the shit out of it, and devalue it (21 million will be a laughable idiot dream) once they hijack it and they will steal and rob (wealth transfer) over 90% of the planet's middle and lower class wealth to the banks, governments, multinationals and the rich elite who got in early. The only winners will be those who get in early and get out before the total government confiscation.
You're welcome!
So what am I supposed to cash out into in order to win? Shitty government dollars?

Local / 跳蚤市场 / Seeking native chinese speaking for simple job (BTC reward offered)

Long story short, some of my coins got lost in transit to one of the chinese exchanges (okcoin). I'm not a native chinese speaker and don't particularly feel like dealing with google translate.
Accordingly, I am seeking a middleman to deal with okcoin's support and get the funds credited to my account. Help me resolve this issue, and I'll reward you for your time. PM me for more information.

Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Is Litecoin massively undervalued?
|

I would say yes..... it is undervalued... generating LTC is not that easy... considering high ELECTRICITY it consumes... When I started LTC the price was around $5+ per LTC.. which I think is a very good price for $0.25/kwh (high peak hours) when ltc dropped to under $2 I stopped mining and my $5k rig is sitting doing nothing until fall/winter where electricity is cheaper $0.12/kwh so yeah... since BITCOIN IS THE GOLD... there should be a SILVER... which is LITECOIN... if BTC is worth $1000 then LTC should be worth $500 actually it should be BTC 1000 USD and Litecoin 250 USD (because there is 4 times more silver than gold ) You're out of your fucking mind. For this to happen, there needs to be parity between the support and services associated with both coins. BTC is miles ahead of LTC in that regard. First mover advantage is not easy to overcome.

So this is basically torrents but instead of choosing which file you want to download, you have to download every single file?
Beyond stupid. Even more so once someone puts illegal content into the blockchain.
Not really like that, i guess more like a decentralised torrent hosting site, if combined with tor or something i guess impossible to shut off. I guess quite a lot of potential things can be done with it. You don't think 513GB a year is an insane requirement? And what happens when someone puts kiddy porn in the blockchain? 128kb is plenty for a jpeg file. This has bad idea written all over it. agreed that it does have some costs to it, but those unsavoury types will always find away to distribute their material. Sometimes you can not write something off entirely because 0.00001% of the population will use it in a negative way. I think a lot of exciting applications for this are possible and could turn out to make a lot of headlines good and bad. Thats not the issue. The issue is that you are now in possession of illegal material.
