41  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: BTC Stolen from Poloniex on: March 04, 2014, 06:17:43 PM
Personally, I think the owner of Poloniex did the right thing by saying what happened. We have to acknowledge that hackers and exploiters will steal funds time to time and when it does happen, its best to not to go the path of Mt. Gox. When someone does manage to steal funds, we as a community should get together and do our best to track exactly where the stolen money goes and hopefully the money eventually goes to some sort of money exchange service where we can alert the site. Instead of assuming the site owner or one of their employees are in on a conspiracy to steal your money every single time..
42  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: CEO of Blockchain.info tweets "Big News Dropping Tomorrow" on: March 04, 2014, 03:44:31 AM
Yea, more teasers to increase the volatility, I bet its not even that good.
43  Economy / Economics / Re: List of Bitcoin Hostile (and friendly) Banks on: March 04, 2014, 03:27:57 AM
Once Bitcoin goes mainstream, we should remember the banks that refused to serve Bitcoin related businesses and Bitcoin in general. By then they will hopefully be begging the Bitcoin community to support them. Personally I haven't had an issue with Chase yet and that's where I set up my account that I use for Bitcoin. Either way, if I do eventually get a notice that they are going to close my account, I will happily support a smaller bank or credit union over the bigger banks.
44  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Did you see the BTC Rally today? on: March 04, 2014, 03:03:32 AM
It seems very likely that a pump occurred.  Unless there is some insider information going around, which always happens before a big announcement. Although, due to the recent Mt. Gox closure and investor confidence at a recent low, I'd say its going to turn out to be a pump and dump.
45  Other / Politics & Society / Re: If we're going to make Pot illegal, why not ban alcohol? on: March 04, 2014, 02:59:32 AM
Prohibition on alcohol in the US created the mob/organized crime and increased the amount of gangs. Same way the prohibition on drugs is creating violent cartels looking to gain control and kill everyone in their way so they can make more money. Treat drugs and alcohol as a public health issue and educate people on the effects of everything so they can make their own informed decisions. Let people make their own decisions to put what they want in their body instead of thinking that we can ban everything we don't like as if it will magically go away.

Such a waste of money..
46  Other / Politics & Society / Re: 22 Messages From Creationists To People Who Believe In Evolution on: March 04, 2014, 02:53:36 AM
The Bill Nye debate was essentially a scientist versus a priest. Obviously the priest is not going to listen to anything that contradicts the book he was born/raised to believe and a real scientist is not going to allow a book of fairy tales to dictate how he understands the world. The difference between evolution and creationism is that evolution is a theory and creationism is a fantasy based on the evidence we have gathered. There is no evidence to support a hypothesis such as creationism while there is actual evidence to support current theories of evolution (which is why it is called a theory).

Essentially the difference between a creationist and and an evolutionist, is that a creationist wouldn't accept anything other, even all the evidence disproving their beliefs hit them square in the face. While most evolutionists would flock to creationism if a magical sky fairy came down and showed everyone how he/she created the world and the universe.
47  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Announce: Bitcoin Donation Trust (http://bdtrust.se) on: March 04, 2014, 02:06:24 AM
This is honestly a great idea, for the issue of trust, the best way to give trust is to put a real face and a real name behind what you do. Also to go through the right hoops and register as a charity or whatever the country you reside in says you should register as. Unfortunately, due to how many people have scammed in the past, this idea will likely not go too far unless you use those suggestions or something similar.
48  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Nakamoto, Satoshi, New Info, hopes it clears up some stuff. on: March 04, 2014, 01:56:36 AM
So you mean to say, if I go around and post some "story" about Satoshi, I can possibly get tips for the "info" I "gave" to people? "air quote"
49  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Should we start New Bitcoin? on: March 04, 2014, 01:50:31 AM
I remember listening to the hearings on Bitcoin in the US Congress. The "experts" that were speaking in front of the House were suggesting that a coin derived off of some of the innovative features of Bitcoin could be used to replace the current system. That probably means that they are talking about a centralized coin, which most of the people here who currently support Bitcoin would not want to be a part of. There are plenty of new "Bitcoins" started everyday and they are pretty much mostly useless and very cloneish. If you can come up with unique features that actually add something not thought of before and innovative, then starting a new Bitcoin might be a good idea.
50  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I told Satoshi to call it Digicashbills on: March 04, 2014, 01:44:01 AM
Bitcoin is a lot cleaner sounding than Digicashbills so it makes sense why he would have chosen Bitcoin.  Besides, Bitcoin makes sense because essentially it refers to that it is a coin that is stored in bits.
51  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 1BTC or 1oz of Gold. Which one would you take? on: March 04, 2014, 01:32:18 AM
If I could sell it right away, 1 oz of gold because I would make more off of it. If longterm, I would take a BTC due to the possibility of the price increasing a lot more when the next wave of investors arrive.

53  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: how long does it take for bitstamp to process international wire transfers? on: March 03, 2014, 07:51:31 AM
When you do any sort of wire transfer, you must make sure all information you enter is exactly how it should be entered.  Otherwise it costs their bank money and time to fix mistakes and likely your wire wont be processed or you will be charged a fee and required to do it again.
54  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: would you accept stolen bitcoins? on: March 03, 2014, 07:46:39 AM
By the time stolen Bitcoins would be identified to be blacklisted, they would likely be in the hands of legitimate users and would likely only serve to hurt the people who don't actually steal them. As for accepting stolen bitcoins, I probably would accept them, this is because its likely that everyone who owns Bitcoins owns some that were stolen. Now it might be a different situation if some random person came up to me and gave me Bitcoins that he said that he/she just stole. I would probably accept them if they were just giving them to me and simply return them to the rightful owners if I can find them. If they actually were buying something with Bitcoin from me, I would not accept it because I wouldn't want to support Bitcoin theft.

56  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: It is possible to make a ZERO spend with Bitcoin? on: March 02, 2014, 09:26:14 PM
No, I believe its equivalent to saying hey, I am going to give you 0$. Let me know if you received it.

58  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What if you bought some of those stolen Mt Gox Bitcoins? on: March 01, 2014, 07:39:08 PM
Considering how difficult it would be to trace every single Bitcoin that was stolen and to somehow then find out who owned them at this current time would be litterally impossible. Then even if people were found to be in possession of those Bitcoins, they would have to be in a country that had similar laws to the US. It just isn't financially possible to do this and it likely wont happen, its unfortunate, but stolen Bitcoins are likely gone for good unless the guy or girl who stole them has a change of heart.
59  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Seemingly horrible business decision by whales on: March 01, 2014, 07:34:32 PM
For the long-term success of Bitcoin, we need incompetent sites and exchanges like Mt. Gox to fail. We can't allow Mt. Gox to continue to be deceptive in their practices by giving them a second chance and possibly taking down Bitcoin even further than they have already.
60  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: what can we do about Mark Karpeles now on: March 01, 2014, 07:29:16 PM
It appears as though Mark has this attitude that he can't fail, I think he will continue to lie and fight to the very end no matter the cost. He seems to be a very stubborn guy (which probably contributed to the fall of Mt. Gox). The second they realized there was a theft, they should have immediately informed everyone and shut down their services until they could get things figured out.
