1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Antminer B3 Bytom Mining First review on: May 15, 2018, 01:24:11 AM
At the same time I bought the B3 Batch 1 I bought approx. the same value of Bytom outright (2300). So let’s see how long it takes me to mine 2300 Bytom. And it actually needs to be more than to account for electricity. Am at 1328 so far. Next 1000 is going to take awhile, maybe 60-90 days. Will it be worth mining it vs. buying outright?

Similar calculation on my A3 Batch 1. Sia was about .03 USD around the time I got the A3. I could have got about 83k Sia outright. I’ve mined 118k so far, about 5 weeks of that I was hashing with two boards, had to send one for repair. Factor in the cost of electricity and I’m not up by much.

I put my Bytom wallet address in Antpool. I didn't realize Antpool was set for ERC20. I have two payments in "paying" status to my Bytom wallet. Any thoughts? I sent Bitmain an email to ask the question. I've since changed my wallet to an Ethereum address.

Got mine an hour ago. Just waiting for a pool!

Don't think there are any more around. I keep on the lookout for. I recall reading they were ordered by a vendor and the order was canceled, how ParallelMiner got them.

I bought 10 or 12 from ParallelMiner, love them. Wish I bought more. I typically use max. ~1200w per, it runs pretty cool/quiet.

Neoscrypt is looking pretty good on Nicehash right now. Any chance for an update to SMOS for Neoscrypt on AMD & NVIDIA?
6  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: [Mining OS] SimpleMining.net - Easy to use GPU MINING Operating System on: December 17, 2017, 09:37:04 PM
Is there any chance that profit switching will come to simple mining os?

I am asking because i currently run all my rigs off windows with awesome miner using profit switching, but i have had lots of pains with windows lately with new builds and simple mining is just so much easier to setup, but i really enjoy the profit switching i use on awesome miner currently.

I never totally got on board with profit switching. I tried it on Awesome miner for a bit, pretty cool. Have been trying to figure out in what scenario it'd be beneficial. The only scenario I can think of is if I'm going take what I've mined and quickly turn around and sell it on an exchange. If I plan on holding what I mine for awhile it really doesn't matter that much. Maybe there are other scenarios I'm not thinking of? Just not sure how you'd earn more profit switching unless you sell right away.

I might have a look at this soon, currently running Windows for my rigs but it's a pain to try and update them all. The one thing I am worried about it adding new miners, can this be done by myself or does it have to be done by SMOS?

I switched to SMOS from Windows months ago for the same reason, Windows is a huge pain. Windows is probably fine if you don't have a lot of rigs, I have 12, not a ton, but is enough to be a pain. Reliability/up-time has improved big time, I can go weeks at a time with no downtime or reboots. Trade-off being you're stuck mining what SMOS can mine, which is a decent selection of coins. You have a lot more flexibility in Windows for other coins. For me it was totally worth the switch.

Would be really nice if SMOS had an Android/iPhone app!
8  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Antminer D3 hardware modifications thread (voltage & fan mods) on: November 14, 2017, 04:23:28 AM
I have some great news guys!  Cool

I successfully modified the following:

- unlocked ASIC voltage from software. You can now increase or decrease the ASIC voltage from software Cheesy
This can save a lot of power / heat and noise. i.e. I run my D3 at 15Gh/s at below 700 watts instead of 19Gh/s @ 1200watts. On the other hand you can also decide to overclock your unit if your PSU can handle it with this unlocked vcore.
- removed fast FAN startup. (very annoying for users that run this miner at home)
- unlocked full fan control. No more minimum fan checks. It removed the low fan warnings as well.

I need to mod the webinterface as well and do some testing so it will take roughly one more week before I will release the first firmware version I guess
This first version is mainly aimed at home users to get a better power usage / hashrate balance and run it as silent as possible

before you ask: Adding new algorithms will be on the list for future versions

other feature requests are welcome of course

You'll certainly get a donation from me if this all comes together!

The count down timer for "main net" is complete... is it up? My miners won't connect to suprnova and websites for some of the other pools either don't work or still say "test net". I'll come back and check in an hour.

No luck mining on suprnova...swtiching my miners back until things are working.
11  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: What is the NEXT BITMAIN release ? on: November 08, 2017, 01:24:24 AM
Not sure I'll buy Bitmain again. I did fine on my L3+s, but am with the folks that get screwed on the D3s. I think there'll be some new players entering the market in 2018, Japan, Russia, Bitmain will not have the lock on the market they have now.

If Bitmain wanted to foster customer loyalty, which good companies do, they could model the likely impact on the market based on what they produce. Produce what will at least likely permit folks to break even on. If they did that I would be much more likely to buy future products. But now, eh, not so much. It's luck of the draw. It wasn't that I was smart with my L3+s... it really was kind of dumb luck.

I think in the end the folks that got screwed on D3s are going to remember... and it'll have an impact on Bitmain. I'm going to remember.
12  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Bitmain now wants your social security number to purchase? on: November 08, 2017, 12:59:18 AM
I don't like the idea of providing it. But in the USA each time I receive a shipment via UPS I have to provide my SSN before it'll clear customs. I'd much rather provide a business tax ID, shield my SSN. Bitmain could be requiring this so what they ship doesn't get held up.
13  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Gold Blockchain on: November 07, 2017, 11:30:39 PM
I started mining BitcoinZ, don't know much about it, but is supposed to be similar to Bitcoin Gold. The devs spent some time on end-user experience/design, the Windows Wallet looks nice/clean. No idea what will become of it, maybe nothing, but thought mine a bunch before it difficulty spikes (although it already is). And best of all... it's working now.
14  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: USELESS HEATER : ANTMINER D3 , WHAT IS NEXT ? on: November 05, 2017, 04:59:42 AM
I have 4 arriving next week and another 5 arriving late November. I am pretty pissed. It was a bad investment. I'm doing good with my L3+s. I wish I spent my $$ on more L3+s instead. I think the nature of mining is that it's high risk. Those who say those who bought should've done more research... no way. I did a lot of research and a lot of modeling. What's happening now was my worst case scenario. I don't think there's any amount of research one could have done to foresee this as the likely scenario. Everybody is to blame, forget pointing fingers.

The best thing one can do is to try to diversify so a bad investment doesn't ruin everything. I invested in Chipolte, I'm down 50%. I also invested in NVIDIA and am up 200%. This is kind of the same. I hope I make more good investments than bad. Could Bitmain have been more thoughtful? I think so. Could the modeling Bitmain did based on number of units sold have better predicted the outcome? I kind of think so. Or maybe they didn't do any modeling. Bitmain was never forthcoming about units produced/sold. That's a key piece of information those of us doing research didn't have.

If I was Bitmain I might have been thoughtful enough in my modeling (knowing my market influence) to at least try to make sure those who bought what I sold would at least likely break even. I have to think there's more at stake for Bitmain than D3s. Their reputation is on the line. If Bitman's focus was to feed the demand, who cares who breaks even... that' short sighted.

The D3 demand was extremely high... but what's the demand going to be for the next several generations of their product line? What's the impact to their bottom line going to be because of all the people who got screwed on D3s? I'm going to remember. I think everyone else will too. The demand that exists now isn't always going to be there. And if I get screwed... well screw you too.

There are new players coming into town, Japan, Russia. Can I rely on Bitmain to at least get me back what I paid for the product? Nope. I'm not loyal, I'll take my business elsewhere. And I hope everyone else does too. In the future Bitmain is not going to have the lock on the market that it does now. In the future, if I can buy a similar product from someone else, I may. I think there will be more options.

So what will I do now? I'll try to sell what I can on eBay with hope of breaking even, selling to some poor sucker, and mining with what I have leftover until I can't anymore.

Who I feel bad for is the individual who doesn't have the $$ to be diverse, sunk what they had into D3s, and now they're totally screwed... and they can't do anything else.

And then - screw you Bitmain, I'm taking my D3s to the dump.

If I was Bitmain, I would admit to the scenario that's playing out, and I would give everyone from November forward a $500 discount per unit purchased on a future product sale. I'd at least have a little more respect for them.

Want to see a good model? Look @ the Siacoin Obliesk. They tell you how many miners they're producing up front, they tell you what to expect in terms Siacoin, and they're giving an exclusive mining period on the first batch - almost guaranteeing you'll at least break even. That's a great model, it builds trust.

15  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: ANTMINER D3 - Hacking, Reprogramming , Disassembly , Debugging, OS change on: November 05, 2017, 01:03:47 AM
I've got 9 of these incoming in the next week or so, am pretty disappointed, but knew the risk. Assuming the diff. will be up to 30000k pretty soon, and the Dash price doesn't change much, after power it's a couple hundred bucks a month. Even say Dash goes up to $600 w/ a diff. of 50000k, it's maybe $1k a month.

Yep, it's pretty much a toaster. Would have been better off buying more L3+s.
16  Economy / Service Discussion / Oregon Mines Hosting on: October 30, 2017, 12:00:55 AM
Does anybody have experience hosting @ Oregon Mines? I got a note they might have space available in December. I've seen a couple (older) posts here, but not much, and not much elsewhere. Seemed there might have been some controversy a few years ago with Minersources. Am looking for more recent thoughts/feedback about them since I'm considering placing some of my equipment there.
Thanks!

17  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Mining Electrical Fire! on: October 11, 2017, 03:37:41 AM
https://imgur.com/a/vQECC

Anybody else having this kind of issue?

I've been working the last couple months to have 400a electrical service installed to my house. A 200a main panel + a 200a sub-panel dedicated to mining (I'm also using 2x 30a circuits from the "main" panel for mining because my home doesn't use much electricity). My house could have been burned down... see photo.

My house is setup for 150a service. The hardware for 400a service has been installed with inspector approval. However, the power company has not run the new feeder lines... so until they do I'm limited to the 150a.

I've been very careful about circuits and loads. I'm currently running my whole home @ 26,000w max., most of which is my mining equipment. I'm running my mining equipment @ 240v on 30a circuits. My power company has good stats online, I can prove the ~26,000w maximum I've been running, which is below the 80% (or 28,800w) maximum recommended for 150a service.

Here's the kicker - the fire occurred at the splice point between the meter and the panel with wire rated for 200a!! The splice is temporary until the power company runs the new feeder lines. My electrical load, while it may have contributed to the fire, is not the real cause - the splice should have been able to handle the load! My analysis is the splice was not done very well - and that's the real reason the fire occurred.

The electrical company I hired to do the install came out immediately (@ 10PM) to resolve. This time they essentially bolted the splice together using a block (which they probably should have done to begin with). I've been running the same load since for nearly a week, no issues.

Anybody else have electrical issues? Am sure it's not just me! Be safe out there! And not to mention my wife is super pissed!! I had to turn in a few of my guns to the police station to destroy, to help with the situation a little (she's very anti-gun).

18  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Have you made more mining coins or buying coins in the long run? on: October 10, 2017, 01:03:03 AM
I haven't been mining very long (7-8 months), I've taken both strategies, mining and direct purchasing (and selling some of the mining equipment on eBay @ a premium). It's the direct purchases and sale of some equipment on eBay that's helping me get to breakeven much quicker than mining alone. My sense is that direct purchasing may have been a better strategy.

Mining can be serious fun, but also a serious headache. Serious headache = noise, heat, ventilation, having enough electricity, and a massive time commitment. It is fun, but I look back now and think it would have been so much easier to buy.
19  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Sia - Decentralized Storage on: October 03, 2017, 12:20:32 AM
That's pretty good news about Duplicati, I'm almost about ready to start using Sia myself (after mining Sia for ~3 months), I just need it to be a bit easier. I don't want to have to have the UI running, plus I have several computers and SAN storage. Would also like it to be easier to buy storage... and it needs to be explained better what exactly I'm buying. If I set an allowance for 5000 Sia, estimated storage fees are 110.51.SC with estimated~20TB storage. Is that per day, per month? Need a better picture of what I'm getting during the buying process w/o having to go read a FAQ. Need the Staples Easy Button.

How about integration with Synology and ReadyNAS? Path to quick adoption.

20  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Sia - Decentralized Storage on: September 25, 2017, 10:09:51 PM
I'm dual mining Ethereum/Sia using Claymore. I've noticed the Sia difficulty has decreased substantially in the last week or two. It's currently ~166TH. I used to get ~3000 Sia/day and am now getting ~4000. Any thoughts about what's going on? Are miners shifting attention somewhere else?
Sia difficulty is being decreased as price surging lower.

It is now less profitable to mine sia because the price of sia just went down so more miners are leaving sia mining as they probably doing more money at other coins.

I think that sia is going to return back to about 200 sat/sia and then probably the hash rate will be increased and the difficulty as well.

With the Ethereum "ice age" there was a massive increase in Ethereum difficulty in the last week... maybe folks who were dual mining Sia w/ Claymore are starting to shift to something else.
