81  Economy / Securities / Re: ASICMINER: Entering the Future of ASIC Mining by Inventing It on: May 22, 2013, 04:24:10 PM
a conventional mutual fund manages billions are dollars worth of assets.

Take a look:

http://money.cnn.com/magazines/moneymag/bestfunds/index.html

Some of the top funds holding billions in assets have a fee of <1%. Other top funds (mid-cap) hold far less than "billions" ... more like in the 100s of millions.
82  Economy / Securities / Re: ASICMINER: Entering the Future of ASIC Mining by Inventing It on: May 22, 2013, 03:20:56 AM
If we look at conventional Mutual Funds, a 5% management fee would be killer. In fact 2% is really a lot, and 1% or less is really desirable for assets that are held long.

Let's use TAT's example of high dividends of 0.036/week for 2 years.

For AM-PT
Earned 0.036/week * 52 wks/yr * 2 yrs = 3.744
Original cost = 2.5 BTC
Profit = 3.744 - 2.5 = 1.244

For TAT
Earned (95% * 0.036/week) * 52 wks/kr * 2 yrs = 3.5568
Original cost = 2.45 BTC
Profit = 3.5568 - 2.45 = 1.1068

Difference = 0.1372 BTC (or $16 in today's rate)

Whether 0.1372 BTC is a lot for you depends on your own judgment, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. But if you had 10 shares, or 100 shares, you can multiply that out and see we would now be talking about $167 to $1674 difference!

I know this is an old thread, but does anyone have a better link for the DLL file required in the OP's first post. I believe it is atipdlxx.dll

When I used the link, all I get is a lot of spam windows from iLivid and Flash Video Downloader and crap.
84  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [8500 GH/s] Slush's Pool (mining.bitcoin.cz); TX FEES + UserDiff; ASIC tested on: May 21, 2013, 08:44:18 PM
so could someone just explain it to me in english or am I just to assume that stupid people like me should not do this.

The duration of each round varies based on luck. Sometimes we are unlucky and it takes 4 hours to finish a block. Other times, it takes 2 minutes.

As an extreme example, let's say your hash rate is very slow, so that it takes you 3 minutes to submit one share. Well, if the pool is lucky and finds a block in 2 minutes, you wouldn't even have submitted your one share yet. Therefore, pool says you did 0 work, and so you get 0 payout. On the other hand, someone has a very fast hash rate, and so in those 2 minutes they submitted 100 shares. Then they will obviously be paid for that work.
85  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [8500 GH/s] Slush's Pool (mining.bitcoin.cz); TX FEES + UserDiff; ASIC tested on: May 21, 2013, 10:42:26 AM
(Using stratum, 7 workers, i guess I should setup namecoind for ALL the workers ((every worker is a machine with 3 cards)), but I have yet to succeed in one's setup, that's why I ask for help...)

At Slush, NMC merge mining only supported on getwork, not stratum. So use getwork server if you want to merge mine.
86  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [8500 GH/s] Slush's Pool (mining.bitcoin.cz); TX FEES + UserDiff; ASIC tested on: May 20, 2013, 03:33:16 PM
... is it normal for Slush to not respond or is this out of the ordinary?

Everyone can say what they want about the weird blocks, bad luck, late/missing payments, etc. But the one thing that worries me is the noticeable absence of Slush. Not only personally (seriously I do hope he's ok), but also for the pool's well-being.

Can you please add Idle Worker Notification to Bitminter? Grin
Yep, that's coming soon.

Goody! Can you also add payout notification via email as well?  Grin
88  Economy / Securities / Re: Price of ASICMINER stock once it starts trading on: May 20, 2013, 01:38:09 PM
I think Apple is a poor example since it is off 40% currently, the market sees it currently as never coming out with a new idea, iPhones are cash flow, but not new ideas.

Thanks for making my point. Apple is a GREAT example. Price of BTC/USD currently is about $122, down from its peak of $266 a month ago. For ASICMINER, mining bitcoins is like selling iPhones... "cash flow" since you call it that. The new ideas for AM are selling hardware (USB Blockeruptor, blades, maybe Gen2 hardware) but again this is speculation, just like trying to guess what Apple will come out with next.
89  Economy / Securities / Re: Price of ASICMINER stock once it starts trading on: May 20, 2013, 11:41:48 AM
How much will Apple's stock rise? How good will iPhone 6 be, and will people like it? Investing in ASICMINER is no different. There are some knowables, but also a lot of speculation. Ultimately, the price of a stock is dependent on how much people are willing to pay for it:

Was seeing some very heavy traffic there for a moment. Seems better now.

Not sure if pool is/was under attack, but again website, API, and stratum server were all down. Network hashrate down to 3-4 TH/s due to all the disconnected miners.
93  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [12 TH/s] BitMinter.com [ASIC support: var diff, Stratum, GBT, rollntime] on: May 18, 2013, 07:57:02 PM
Pool down? Cannot access website (other than CloudFlare), cannot access API, and miner cannot access stratum server.

Proxy is only required for miner clients that don't support stratum. CGMiner supports stratum for scrypt, so just use that.
97  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [8500 GH/s] Slush's Pool (mining.bitcoin.cz); TX FEES + UserDiff; ASIC tested on: May 18, 2013, 02:42:07 AM
Yep, and consider disassembling the GPU's heatsink/fan, cleaning everything, and reapplying thermal paste (TIM) on it. I've read lots of instances when the manufacturer does a crappy job making these interfaces, and temps drop after end users reapply the TIM.

Note: usually this will void your warranty!

You are more likely to make more money [...] buying bitcoins and letting them appreciate.

I tell my Bitcoins I appreciate them every day! My Litecoins on the other hand ...  Cheesy
99  Economy / Securities / Re: [BTCTC][[ASICMINER-PT]] - Public trading of ASICMINER shares on: May 18, 2013, 01:16:16 AM
Is there a FAQ somewhere that explains all of this?  If not, what is a passthrough share compared to a normal share?  Is a share one actual miner ASIC machine working away somewhere?  Thanks for anyone helping out.

Yes, I gave my GPUs a 5 minute cool down period near the end of the round. I don't think that deserves the loss of nearly all rewards from almost 2.5 hours of mining.

Just trying to be objective and helpful here. But I guess you could:
(a) invest in better cooling for your GPUs so you don't have to cool them down
(b) or move to a different pool with a different scoring method so your cooling periods do not adversely affect you.

For option (b), frankly most pools implement scoring methods to discourage pool hoppers. Now you may not be hopping on purpose, but you are disconnecting at various times to cool down your GPUs which will be viewed as the same thing. You might consider a strict PPS pool for that reason, but they charge high fees for a reason: it's risky for the pool and they could go out of business.

Other way to think about it, at Slush's if you "cool down" at the beginning of a round, then restart near the end, you'll submit less shares but still get full rewards as recent work is weighted more than old work. So at the end, in the LONG RUN, you even out!
