1  Economy / Services / AD-FREE Email service on: July 30, 2013, 03:45:35 AM
For a while now Gmail has had ads at the margins and I've never minded, but recently Google started putting ads in my inbox disguised as new messages.  Since it's a free service I can't really complain, but I don't have to take it.  I created a domain and am hosting my own email with NO ADS anywhere.

I'm offering the same service to anyone that wants it for 0.09BTC per year.  Originally I started it accepting LTC, but the LTC community is still small so I haven't gotten a lot of users interested yet.  For this reason I'm accepting BTC now as well.  I figure bringing awareness to the crypto-currency community as a whole will benefit both currencies.

The features I'm incorporating at this point are:

  • 2 GB of space
  • Calendar
  • Use space for email or online storage
  • Anti-virus protection on incoming emails
  • Anti-Spam settings (with black/white list)
  • Access via desktop/mobile
  • Unified Inbox (see below)
  • AND BEST OF ALL NO ADS -- EVER

I realize some might ask what's to keep me from selling email addresses to advertisers.  The God's honest truth is, nothing.  All I can say is that I hate ads and spam so I'm going to try to build this service on the promise that no ads will ever appear on your page or inbox and when/if  the service grows I will rely on user testimonials to vouch for that promise.  So basically it's in my best interest to be faithful to this promise.  Once you start using the service if you start giving away the address to shady characters and start getting spam then it's kinda your own damn fault...

A user on another board brought up the fact that they don't feel comfortable because in being the administrator of the service I will have the ability to read your mail.  This can only be done if I reset the account password (at which point you will know -- and consequently not trust again).  Given that I'm an unknown quantity and need trust to build up the service this, again, goes against my best interest to do.  Aside from this point I think you probably have more to fear from Google/AT&T/Verizon selling your data to the NSA then you do from a single admin who will definitely not have time (even if I wanted) to read your email.

Anyone interested please PM me.  Right now every email address is available, but as people sign up the more popular names will start to be taken.

Here's a shot of what the site looks like:

You have the ability to setup all your different inboxes in a "unified" mailbox so you can see all your GMAIL or YAHOO mail without actually going to the site and consequently not having to be inundated with their ads...Once setup, you can view each inbox separate from the others or all inboxes together in one pane.

Just to be clear, I am looking for $400 or the equivalent in btc or ltc.  I'm going to remove the btc/ltc price on the original post because it's hard to keep up when the exchange swings wildy as it has been doing as of late.

Your post is quite a bit non-sensical.  I'm surprised you did not warn me not to use the word Kleenex instead of tissue or Pampers instead of diapers.  Let me just get it out of the way since this is probably what you were looking for when you posted:

"wow...you know the origin and translation of the word 'kremlin'?  You are very knowledgeable and worldy...I respect you now...and wikipedia too"

The word is used interchangeably with the Russian government in colloquial conversation and I suspect you knew that...

I also went back to check my post and found no mention of hate towards Russians...

My advice to you is: just because you CAN do all sorts of drugs doesn't mean you should.

I'm really torn about this report.  On the one hand it's a very well done piece with BBC level reporting/professionalism and graphics, but on the other hand RT (Russia Today) is a mouthpiece of the Russian government, created by the Kremlin and funded by the budget of the Russian Federation.  If you notice, most of the reporting done there embarrasses the U.S. Government in some way.

Not that I'm trying to be a flag-wearing patriot here, but certainly everything you see on RT should be taken with a nice helping of salt...

5  Bitcoin / Mining / warehouse or office space for setting up mining equipment on: July 03, 2013, 11:03:13 PM
I've been thinking about moving my operation to a commercial space, but I'm not sure how to look for a place with enough juice.  I know I will need at least 140-150 amps for housing my expanded operation.  Plus enough juice to run cooling units...

Is this even possible or am I thinking about a dedicated data center?

Just wondering.

Wow, that "big red box" really made my day...lol very cool indeed.

8  Other / Off-topic / How do you extract the heat from your mining operation? on: June 29, 2013, 05:43:58 AM
Basically I'm looking for ideas on removing the heat from the room where I have the miners.  The equipment is in a room in my house that has a central A/C vent and a window, but in order to exhaust the hot air outside the house I would have to keep the window open which I don't want to do.  I also don't want to make any permanent holes in the wall that I would have to patch up later when I sell the house.

I've thought about opening up a hole in the ceiling inside the closet and running a flexible hvac tubing with an extractor fan to take the hot air to the attic.  This can be pathed up pretty easily and can even be made into an access into the attic, but I'm wondering if opening up that hole, even if I'm pushing air up there is going to allow air from the attic (extremely hot) to vent into the room, thereby making it hotter than it is now.

Thoughts?

9  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Sapphire 7950 boost BIOS question on: June 25, 2013, 08:00:25 PM
Yes, I have afterburner installed, but only to be used if not using cgminer.  I don't like to mix two apps that modify clocks/voltages together.

Up to now, cgminer has been great at controlling clocks/volts so I don't want to bring afterburner into the mix especially if I'm seeing an issue I haven't seen before.  I want to get at the root cause of this before I introduce another variable into the mix.

10  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Why is CGMINER showing FAN RPM of one of my GPUs @ 649,298RPM? on: June 25, 2013, 07:43:04 PM
resolved itself all of a sudden...no changes on my part.
11  Bitcoin / Mining support / Sapphire 7950 boost BIOS question on: June 25, 2013, 06:59:17 PM
The default Sapphire 7950 bios comes in at 1.250volts and it has been mining spectacularly, but it's overtaxing my Seasonic 1250w psu, so I decided to switch them to the secondary bios (a.k.a. the blue "S" button, or the boost button) since it comes in at 1.169volts.

It also mines perfectly, but for some reason whenever I restart cgminer it sets the Engine Clock back to 925 even though the cgminer.conf has it set at 1100.  I can then use cgminer to set it to 1100 and it responds beautifully with higher hashrate and is stable (as far as I can tell)...but no matter what I do, I can't get it to start at  anything other than 925MHz on cgminer.

In case some of you are wondering why not just set it and forget it?
I have it set to autostart if the computer ever goes down so when it starts, auto logs in, starts cgminer it will start the cards at 925MHz which of course will mean a reduced hashrate.

Any suggestions?

Windows 7x64, cgminer 3.2.0

13  Bitcoin / Mining support / Why is CGMINER showing FAN RPM of one of my GPUs @ 649,298RPM? on: June 23, 2013, 06:05:00 PM
It only happens on whichever card happens to be GPU0...the other RPMs show up ok...

Windows 7x64, Gigabyte WF3 7950, Gigabyte 990FXA-UD3 Motherboard, CGMINER 3.2.0

FAN RPM % always shows up as 85% even though temps are between 69-71 and I have Target set at 73...

Hashing happily at ~660Kh/s w/no HW errors and less than 1% rejects.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

I have restarted the GPU, restarted CGMINER, restarted the computer, but still shows up this way.  I have also started CGminer with and without a config file, but no change.

14  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: How to get multiple cgminer instances working on same rig on: June 21, 2013, 01:06:47 AM
gave up on this...just running same model on one rig now...thanks for all the advice...
15  Bitcoin / Mining support / how to "clear" cgminer memory of what card is in what pcie slot on: June 21, 2013, 12:05:05 AM
I mentioned in another thread that sometimes on Windows when you move a card from one particular slot to another cgminer still thinks that one card is in that slot even though it's a different card.

So for example:

I have a gigabyte wf37950-f43 (1.090v) on pcie slot for GPU0 an Sapphire 7950 (1.250v) in slot for GPU1, but if I switch their location cgminer still shows GPU0 (now the Sapphire 1.250v card) as having 1.090v...so how can I clear these settings so that Windows/cgminer reads the correct info for the new card in that slot?

I've looked around a bit, but can't find the exact answer for this...Any feedback would be great.

16  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Just read OKPAY will be severing ties to BTC exchanges. What do you guys use? on: June 20, 2013, 01:06:22 AM
I'm using OKPAY and will stay there as no problems until now. Even used XMLGold but prefer to exchange with PayPal, recently used RChange, http://rchange.net/?ref=356997

Then maybe you haven't heard:

Any financial transactions involving exchangers and stock exchanges trading bitcoin are now prohibited.

I looked into "PerfectMoney" but they are shutting down accounts belonging to US Citizens in the next 2 weeks (As of July 1st).

Right now, it looks like BTC-e is still able to send to PayPal but with a 6% fee.  Given that if I send from Gox using their only method left (Bank Transfer) it will cost me $15 from my bank and Y2000 (~20) from their side I'm better off sending using Paypal unless my transfer is more than $700.00 (where the Paypal fees would be $45 vs. ~$42 using Bank Transfer)

What a crock!!
17  Economy / Service Discussion / Just read OKPAY will be severing ties to BTC exchanges. What do you guys use? on: June 19, 2013, 05:01:31 AM
I've been using OKPAY to receive trading profits, but now that they are going to stop accepting funds from exchanges I need to find something else that doesn't rape me on transfer fees.  What do you guys use for amount of under $1000 per month?

18  Other / Off-topic / Anyone have the LG Optimus G Pro on T-mo? on: June 19, 2013, 04:23:40 AM
I'm looking to bring it to my Tmo account, but I know there are always compatibility issues...I read that since it's tuned for AT&T's network you will not get the full 42Mbps speed of Tmo's LTE, but will only get 21Mbps...pfft! I don't need more than 10 so 21 is better than I expected...Just wanna know if there are any other snags that anyone's heard about.

not trying to talk smack, just looking at it from the customers point of view...
