1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DCR] Decred - Community Governance | Bitcoin Devs | Lightning Network on: March 13, 2018, 06:08:12 AM
Is Decred planning to fork with the ASICS coming out

Sia-Tech (August 2018)

Bitmain (likely July Pre-Order)

Just saying, not sure how the devs handle such

Baikal N does a mess of other GPU coins coming out and there is a 'groundswell' to all FORK and turn them into doorstops before shipping

Was just wondering about Decred as an aside

thanks

Brad

In their last YouTube presentation, the Decred team mentioned they were aware of a few companies preparing to launch ASICs for Decred and welcome ASICs. They also mentioned they are prepared for any shenanigans from the ASIC manufacturers. Sounds like they will modify the Decredition platform to allow stakeholders to NOT approve empty blocks or something along those lines.

My understanding of Decred's community governance model is that the devs will work on the upgrades to the code, e.g. integrate the Lightnight Network, privacy features, etc., and include them into the Decred code as a dormant feature. Once they are included, then the community votes on them. Is this like putting the cart before the horse? Why spend precious time and effort on upgrades to the code if the community does not want and approve them?

I have some Bitmain coupons for sale if anyone is interested. I have

13- $200 USD coupons
12- $125 USD coupons
26- $100 USD coupons
2  - $50   USD coupons

The $200 and $100 coupons are good until June, the $50 and the $125 are good until July!

30% off of the value. We can do them 1 at a time if it makes you feel safe. PM me for details. Cheers!

Great..so the frigging coupons I have from last fall are likely ONLY good till June if lucky July 2018...even this miner perk seems also to be 'illusion city' in reality

I doubt I will find anything of any bitmain flavor that will make ROI sense by that point in time......as usual even lame coupons ..turn

'crispy evil' if enough time goes by.....(bitmain did not make 4 billion dollars more than Nvidia (in 20 years) bitmain (did in 4 years) by having 'idle hands'

bitmain: (evil never rests....)

edit: (yeah, I"m conflicted...with 90% of miners to the public being Bitmain...I need equipment for tax purposes badly this year, but they are evil and ROI is dubious
at best.....kinda a 'do you want to be dropped in the tiger pit on the right or the bear pit on the left?)

sheesh.....save me anybody ASIC maker...that is just lame and not evil...wherever you are! (plays: we need a hero song, in mind)

I seem to be involved in the past and probably in the future in an "abusive ASIC relationship" ....so it seems ....damn.....

Why is everyone getting coupons from Bitmain?

Who knows, I just logged in and found 2 x $100 coupons, they didn't even send me an email to let me know.

Unfortunately, you can't stack them.

I have a feeling they are trying to clean out some inventory. Is this how Bitmain puts stuff on sale?  Cheesy

But the beauty of Decred is the hybrid block validation where stakers have the final say in validating mined blocks. This maintains decentralization while keeping the security of a network with more hash power. I can only see Asics as a good thing for the future of Decred.

How exactly do I decide what blocks are valid when voting? Why would I want to vote any block as being not valid? Not to mention that putting a "no" vote in a block I am called to vote would result (if the no prevails) in the block becoming orphan and therefore no stake reward for the ticket.

Also the whole voting/staking system is automatic. My tickets are called to vote and they do. I never choose any yes or no for the blocks, I don't even know how. I only know how to vote for other stuff when available, like the lightning network or ticket price algorithm change.

Finally, with staking pools active and used by most, you could argue that staking is also quite centralized.

I would like to know this as well. On the Decredition wallet, I don't see any option to vote "No" on a block.

6  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Zcoin (XZC) - Implementing Zerocoin technology for financial privacy on: February 07, 2018, 04:26:43 AM
What differentiates ZCoin from PIVX? I read the comparison between XZC and Dash, Monero and ZCash. However, from what I read on PIVX, they both seem to have a lot of similarities. Does ZCoin plan to add staking like PIVX? The masternode ROI will certainly attract more users, which will drive ROI lower.

Is there a place to find out more details regarding the roadmap? I'd like to know how governance will be approached by the team.

I hope zcoin is not the next bitconnect...  Angry

In what way could it relate to each other? Read up on your stuff before commenting and stop making yourself look uninformed Wink

What makes you think ZCoin is anyway like Bitconnect?

Guys, maybe someone knows any news or leaks, about new generation scrypt miners? From Bitmain or another product. Thanks for answer

No news.  It is wired that they are doing a fire sale with T9s and everything else they have found in a shad lol

But for script, just remember that they do not have any competition. They got the only and best performing miner on the market. If they build a stronger one, they will use it themselves first, but if they sell the better miner, they just compete with the L3+

That would not make any sense

I would not put it past Bitmain to release a more powerful and efficient Scrypt miner sometime later this year. The L3+ is making +/- $5 per day. Don't think Bitmain will be selling many units with this daily profit.
Why not?  Last bubble time ASICS we’re going for low 100s.  You have insider knowledge of how much it actually costs to produce them?  I strongly suspect their current production costs aren’t much higher.

Why? Bitmain is trying to sell the L3+ for $1536 each and deliver in March. Based on this and the current Litecoin stats, these miners will ROI in about 8 months, which we all know won't happen since the difficulty will keep increasing. It's anybody's guess where the LTC price will go. Buying a L3+ today from Bitmain is pretty much hoping that the price Litecoin will appreciate.

Given that Bitmain still has these available, most buyers realize this.

I like this coin but MN cost too much..

I said that was BTC was $7 and said it again when it was $156. Did not buy buckets as I should have. This is a good coin and this price will seem cheap in a few years. You'll be kicking yourself and saying "I could have bought this coin when it was only about $70.00." Could easily go up 10X in value or more.

Why do you think it could go up 10x in value?

Hey guys is it just me or is Decred actually doing pretty good these days?

It seems to be holding up relatively well comparatively.

Hi!

My deposit of 82 Decred to Poloniex was not credited in over 48 hours, and no reply to my support ticket.
Anybody else here having the same problem?

on POLO you can observe it:
"DCR is currently under maintenance or experiencing wallet/network issues. Deposits and withdrawals will remain disabled until a solution is found, which may require an update from the DCR team. Any updates must be tested and audited before enabling."
I would postpone deposits for stock exchanges for later

Does this only affect Poloniex or are all exchanges effected?

I'm selling 4 Bitmain Antminer L3+ and PSU. Originally, I purchased 10 units with the intention of sending them to a colo hosting provider. However, the provider has had several delays in building out the facility, so I'm selling 4 units and the PSU. Units have never been used. I'm asking $2500 for the miner and PSU. Shipping costs dependant on the buyer's location. I'm willing to do escrow with trusted escrow at the buyer's expense.

where are you located? would u consider $2000 per if i take all?

Shipping is from Los Angeles.

17  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Bitmain just announced the AntMiner A3 - 815GH/s Siacoin miner - Blake(2b) on: January 17, 2018, 06:39:40 PM
Announcement from Sia team :

Bitmain has announced ASICs for Sia, shipping in 7 days. 1275w, 815 GH/s, ~$3200 USD. They are more expensive and less efficient than the Obelisk SC1, but they ship several months sooner (7 days as opposed to several months).

Bitmain has a long history of being abusive towards coin communities, their customers, and towards coin developers. We prepared for something like this by adding an extra feature to the SC1. We can do a soft-fork that slightly changes the PoW algorithm which would invalidate the bitmain ASICs, but allow the SC1 units to continue working. In the event of an attack from Bitmain, we can activate this soft fork. At this time, I do not think it is necessary, but if they start mining empty blocks or otherwise prove problematic for the network, we have recourse that does not involve destroying the usefulness of the SC1 units. This fork would of course require community adoption, it's not something the devs could decide to activate on their own. It would be a UASF, because the majority hashrate would not be standing behind the soft fork.

Overall, I do not think we have much to worry about. Hopefully (and very likely), this soft-fork will never be necessary. But I wanted to remind everyone (including Bitmain) that, at the end of the day, it is the community that has control, not the miners. If ASIC manufacturers act in a way that is harmful to the network, we have recourse.
Has batch 1 been released? Does this manufacturer have a history?

This is a very interesting plan from the Sia team. Seems like governance will be the important topic for 2018.
18  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DCR] Decred - Community Governance | Bitcoin Devs | Lightning Network on: January 17, 2018, 06:08:26 PM
Looks like Bitmain came out with asics for sia, do you think its possible they have or soon will have asics for Decred since the algos are similar?

very likely they surely don't lack of expertise for doing that could be the foruth competitor after oblisk, dcrasic and baikal.

Bitmain will definitely come out with an ASIC for Blake256 sometime this year. Baikal started the process and Bitmain will end it.
19  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Launching the Antminer L3+, World's Most Powerful and Efficient Litecoin Miner on: January 14, 2018, 04:23:04 PM

they are selling on Ebay for between £4800-5000, i really want to keep but i think the smart decision is to sell and then reinvest money after RIO into coins?

sooo not sure what to do, if the price explodes i will be annoyed, but at the same time may have 100 coins...Sad

Be careful selling on eBay. There are a lot of scammers buying Antminers and returning them. eBay will ALWAYS side with the buyer.
20  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] NiceHash.com - sell & buy hash rate cloud mining service / multipool on: January 10, 2018, 06:43:37 AM
Anyone have any idea why Nicehash does not pay as well as it did prior to the hack? Before the hack, Nicehash was constantly listed near the top on www.whattomine.com for Scrypt algo's. Now, it seems that it's pegged to the payout of Litecoin. With merged mining, doesn't seems as compelling to use Nicehash anymore.
