81  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Particl•PART|Confidential Transactions|Atomic Swaps|Cold Staking|P2P Marketplace on: December 17, 2017, 03:41:58 PM
Hi, I've bought some PART and set up cold staking on a Raspberry Pi as per the guide. I know that it was stated that the syncing process could take weeks but after about 5 days the cold staking progress is 0%. Is this expected behaviour? Would appreciate any help. Thanks

did you follow this guide? https://particl.news/guide-setting-up-particl-cold-staking-f5d9073bac4

did you unlock your local wallet for staking?...i missed that step initially and had the same issue as you. When setting up the local wallet for cold staking you need to unlock the wallet in two places essentially (the normal unlocking like you had to before cold staking was implemented, and the other when you click in the enable cold staking area you need to enter your wallet passphrase again)

Hi. Yes that's the guide i followed. I'm pretty sure I did but when I just tried it again the wallet 'Lock' icon became Yellow whereas previously it was Green. I will let it run and see how this goes. Thanks for the help.

no problem, yes my icon at the top is yellow also and says "Unlocked, staking only".

my particl wallet has been cold staking for over 2 weeks and still shows 99.97% complete. Seems like it will never get to the full 100%...

You could open Particl-qt and use coin control to see which output has yet to transfer to a 256bit address, and then manually do it by sending to a new 256bit address (I think even regular addresses would do the trick, not 100% sure though).

EDIT: Be sure your qt is the last version though!

thanks for the info will try that! only problem is I don't know how to create a 256bit address but I'll do some digging and see what I can find

edit: figured out how to create the 256bit address. Transferred two txes that were still under the regular address. Will see if this makes the cold staking go to 100% now.

Ok let me know if that worked or not. I'm curious myself.

As for 256bit addresses, you can create them with the latest version of particl-qt!

Hasn't worked yet and I've received 3 new stake rewards since this post...still showing 99.97% complete for cold staking.

Cold Staking Activation is a process which measures the # of your outputs which have converted to the new cold staking smart contract.
A 99.97% activation implies that 99.97% of your coins are "NOW" cold staking with 0.03% still waiting to convert (so make sure that staking node is online!!).

For argument sake, lets say you had 1000 PART ... so we know that 999.7 PART are Cold Staking and 0.3 PART are not.
The chances of your 0.3 PART of staking in the next few years is next to none (being realistic).

You therefore essentially have a few options.

1. Close your real wallet and forget about the 0.3 PART cold staking
2. Wait for the next GUI release which will give you the option to FORCE that 0.3 PART to convert.
3. If you are crypto tech savvy pop into our Riot channel and I am more than happy to explain to you how you can do this WITHOUT waiting for the new GUI Wallet.

I hope that clarifies matters.

EDIT : Please remember that the % Cold Staking Activation shown in the wallet is of coins currently Cold Staking.  100% = all of your coins are cold staking; 50% = half of your coins are cold staking.

thanks for the explanation! this wasn't entirely clear in the https://particl.news/guide-setting-up-particl-cold-staking-f5d9073bac4 (cold staking guide) which in part states:
"Once you’ve reached 100% complete on the Cold Staking progress bar your two wallets are linked. The staking node wallet needs to be online 24/7 to receive staking rewards. The wallet holding your PART tokens can be offline, safe and secure."

So that made me think I needed to wait for it to be 100% before I could close my wallet holding the PART tokens. I didn't realize that the % indicates the percentage of coins that are already now cold staking.

I think I have some COMM in my wallet.

If any dev want to revive the coin, I'd like to donate some to support the develop.

That is a good gesture.
If someone can organize a foundation, the community will be willing to donate.

there is also 70million coins from the cryptsy wallet that was given to @bumbacoin...he's been quiet as of late though. I've tried to get a hold of him but he hasn't responded for quite some time.

I don't know this @bumbacoin guy.
Why did he have the privilege to hold this 70 million COMM?
I should do something with this fund.

i think it was part of the liquidation process and since bumbacoin was the last one to modify the code (not the original dev), he was given the private keys to the 70million COMM that was still in the cryptsy wallet. are you a developer familiar with crypto code?

if you look a few pages back you'll see this history (which i've pasted the chucks below):

Our team obtained many of the cryptocurrencies that were frozen on Cryptsy's servers when the exchange collapsed. The CommunityCoin wallet.dat was among those recovered.

We are now in the process of giving these wallet files back to their respective communities. The wallet has not been inspected and it's unknown if it contains any coins. If you are a developer of this coin, or a longstanding community member, you can file a request for the wallet in this thread: https://www.gldtalk.org/index.php?topic=3789.0

i've replied and offered to take the cryptsy wallet.
if i receive it i will let everyone know what's in it.

i havent had a wallet going for quite a while.
does anyone have any nodes?

not to worry, seem like plenty here
http://crypto-trade.net/nodestat

currently am syncing a new wallet with a few connections, all on height 987465,
from memory i have some COMM so might be able to move the chain along again
Code:
addnode=1.34.180.245:20801
addnode=51.254.196.222:58150
addnode=118.232.9.247:50000

heh is comm worth reviving ??

i gots de Cryptsy wallet (thanks MicroGuy Cheesy)

on a cursory inspection it has ~70million coins
and putting staking=0 in yr conf doesnt work Wink

i'm just going to do a full sync from scratch for competleness Smiley

.
only current exchange crypto-trade is showing their Comm wallet as connected, but not syncing,
if you want comm to be tradeable, pls feel free to msg them with a support request Wink

a full sync leads to difficulties :p
ie a non-responding wallet,

and i haven't had the leisure to address the issue usefully as yet.
so nothing further to report yet.

bumbacoin, any luck with getting your wallet synced? any chance of just burning the 70 million that you received from the Cryptsy wallet to reduce supply/centralization? It's not like the coins can be traded anywhere anyway...

Those 70 million could be used to hire a team and relaunch CommunityCoin, it would be an almost poetic use for those coins.

I thinks your suggestion is much better.
Among this 70 million there should be some belonging to me.
I lost all my asset in Cryptsy.

I agree that would be better but COMM is not traded anywhere now so how would you convince a developer team to take COMM as "payment". That's why the next best things to do is burn the coins and reduce the overall supply

anyone else's wallet goes into long periods of "not responding" and then eventually starts working again? my wallet seems to do this where it will not respond for a minute or two, respond briefly and then back to not responding...seems like something to do with network possibly since when i disconnect the internet, it starts to respond much better.

fyi, fixed the wallet not responding issue by transferring all coins into brand new wallet (not new address within existing wallet). My previous wallet had 196K transactions and was 85MB in size. New wallet is 72KB with only 1 transaction now and this seems to have fixed the issue so far Smiley

Hey guys,
someone here care to share some working nodes please?
anyone with the synced wallet? if yes, what is the latest block?

I got only this one:
1.34.180.245:20801

anyone got link to wallet

cheers

I created a bootstrap and provided links to bootstrap and latest wallet a few pages back:
full sync working for me...I'm synced to block 1138744...not sure if this is the longest chain though since I can't find a block explorer but this is currently fully synced as of this date/time

seems that I'm the only one pushing the blockchain along by staking...currently block is now 1138776

Can you please upload a bootstrap file for COMM?

Here you go:

MD5 - https://www.dropbox.com/s/zi0onhbazsmfbed/bootstrap.md5?dl=0
bootstrap.dat - https://www.dropbox.com/s/zatr2lykdrxszfb/bootstrap.zip?dl=0

let me know if you have any problems with it...this is my first time creating a bootstrap.

in case you don't have it, here's the most recent version of the COMM Qt wallet that supports staking:

is the blockchain forking? i keep getting rejected transactions...
What is the total node up right now? This project looks comfy with such a long trace back to 2014 so I think maybe I could give it a try.

i'm currently connected to 3 peers

seems like my wallet thinks I'm trying to double-spend. Anyone know how to fix the wallet to validate the transactions that are only contained in the blockchain at present? I've tried -reindex and -rescan but they don't seem to have helped (not sure if these commands even work for COMM).

fixed it by importing private keys into new wallet

UNO will fork within about 20 hours to increase mining rewards.

Please update your Unobtanium QT wallet.  http://unobtanium.uno

Users of UNO Electrum or Coinomi don't need to do anything.

where's a good, reliable pool to mine UNO to get these increased mining rewards?

On another note, since setting up cold staking, I've yet to receive any stakes ( 5 days now). Prior to cold staking, I was getting stake every day or two. The cold staking percentage is still showing 0% in my wallet. partyman status on my staking node says "particld staking currently - NO - low_balance"
Also, my "particld staking weight" on my staking node shows as 0/427995286249408 so it almost seems as thought the cold staking node is not talking to my local Particl Wallet. I followed the cold staking guide posted by Paul and didn't get any errors during the setup process...

I don't need to "unlock for staking" on my local Particl Wallet for the cold staking to activate do I? That would defeat the purpose of cold staking feature...

I unlocked my Particl Wallet for staking and now received a stake, but the cold staking % is still 0%. I don't think I am doing this correctly.

Just to follow up, after unlocking my Particl Wallet for staking only whilst having cold staking enabled, I am now seeing the cold staking percentage increase to ~20% and my staking node is now reporting as staking. I'm not sure if this is just a coincidence that this began happening after unlocking my Particl Wallet for staking, but I didn't see anything in the guide mentioning that the Particl Wallet has to be unlocked for staking in order for the cold staking to activate.

Yes, you need to keep your wallet unlocked for staking until it shows 100%, at which point you can let your staking node do the work. You can also make that process instantaneous by sending all your coins back to you. Just generate a new address (or use one that you already have) and send your coin to yourself, it should insta 100%. You will however lose a bit of staking efficiency for a while since that will mess with the outputs.

Ok thanks for confirming that the Particl Wallet needs to be unlocked for staking until it shows 100%. I must have missed this in the cold staking guide.

Once the cold staking is activated, do the coins generated from staking flow back to the Particl Wallet (the cold wallet) or do they stay on the staking node wallet?
