1  Economy / Marketplace / Does hitbtc tell people when it's about to delist or remove market? on: November 12, 2018, 04:33:33 AM
KBR is removed from market. To me it's sudden.

All other exchange usually tell in front if a coin is about delisted.

Why not hitbtc?
2  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Why hitbtc often eliminate coins abruptly on: November 11, 2018, 10:05:16 PM
Suddenly KBD coins are eliminated.

Why?

Do they actually announce this or what am I missing?

Other exchanges would tell in front, that these coins will be eliminated. Why not hitbtc?
3  Economy / Exchanges / How do I get Polo to be more cooperative to me on this hacking case? on: November 09, 2018, 02:22:14 PM
I got hacked

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5034447.msg47514177#msg47514177

Similar hacked happened before

Polo usually knows who did it.

You are welcome. We have identified the accounts involved and they have been banned. Unfortunately, as is normally the case in these situations the attackers immediately withdrew the majority of the coins and as these transactions have now left our system and have been confirmed by the blockchain then they are outside our control. We will continue to investigate further and see if we are able to recover any of the coins that were not yet withdrawn.

Now, in my case, this is what Polo said. Basically they are protecting those vermin from my hand

Thank you for your response and apologies for the delay. At this time we can only confirm that one of your API keys were compromised and we are unable to confirm which - we recommend in checking your personal records and a cybercrime investigator to confirm which was compromised. Due to GDPR and data privacy laws we are only able to provide account information to the account owner, however if you open up a case with local law enforcement we will be able to cooperate with them in the investigation to the loss of your assets.

Please attempt to get the investigating officer to reach out to us with a case number or details to the investigating unit once the case has been opened.

Basically, Polo didn't tell me who did it. They don't tell me which API key is used by the hacker (what no log?). They didn't tell me if they bother banning the accounts involved. They also wouldn't want to share me any info about the hacker accounts. As we know, people are required to give their identity to polo. That requires photograph. That's not easily faked. If I know the pic of the vermin I can post that all over the internet and report to cops. Nor do they tell me if any money is recoverable.

How do I get Polo to reveal the info to me?

I can report the problem to my local cops. However, my local cops is so corrupt. Chance is I lost even more money than what's already lost. But that's precisely what Polo suggested me to do. So far they're not helping me at all. They're just protecting the culprit.

I suspected that Polo wanted me to get arrested instead.

I regret using them so much.
4  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Where can I report crime of hacking in Polo. Possible inside job on: November 07, 2018, 11:42:03 PM
Is it not possible that your computer is not clean and a hacker managed to get access to the API through it?

Unless the amount is so huge, I doubt that there will be any real investigation from the cops, to be honest. If Poloniex allows sending emails directly and not through their site, you could use mailtrack.io to see whether they're actually opening your emails in the first place or not, that might give you an idea whether they're avoiding to answer or they actually missed it.

I asked through their ticket system. They get it. But it seems that their customer service is so incompetent or not having facts. It's as if they're playing dumb or really dumb. I am not getting any specific info at all. They just said that I have to save API carefully because it can be used. Duh. What about something I don't already know. Things like which API is compromised.

I don't know how much is lost. 1.5 bitcoin I think.

It is possible that my computer is not clean but unlikely. Again, I need them to confirm which API the hacker uses. They do not give the info.

The reason I suspect possible inside jobs is because there are SEVERAL SIMILAR CASES. In the other thread about this I show several similar cases. Poloniex is the only similar cases I found.

I also have API for other exchanges on the same file. However, poloniex is the only one that is hacked. I changed all of my API to read only due to this.

Anyway where should I report this?

I've in US people can report some black guys cooking barbeque. They don't just report, they called 911 for that. Obviously this is more serious than that.
5  Economy / Exchanges / Cannot access hitbtc and cryptopia on: November 05, 2018, 10:54:53 PM
I can access that via vpn.

But not directly.
6  Economy / Exchanges / Where can I report crime of hacking in Polo. Possible inside job on: November 05, 2018, 09:02:58 PM
I suspected insider job. The link was here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5034447.msg47514177#msg47514177

There are 3 ways the hacker can enter. Using 2 API that I have and using login. The login is protected by 2FA. The API is safely stored in my computer and safely stored by cryptolend.

It's been 13 days since Poloniex support last report to me.

I asked which API is used and they never replied. So I have no idea how the hacker got the API. They suggested that an API is used and try to suggest the cryptolend one is being used. Basically they told me that I am at risk for giving my API key to cryptolend. However, when I asked again which API is used they do not reply and have to check again.

That means they either didn't read what I wrote to them asking the same thing again and again or what?

There are many SIMILAR hacking occurrence in Polo. Polo requires all traders to have their info on file. However, Polo customer service is defending the hacker by saying that they keep other accounts info "private".

It happens here
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1988476.msg19800513#msg19800513
https://www.reddit.com/r/CryptoMarkets/comments/6kv2p4/poloniex_account_hacked_25000_stolen/

They suggest that I report to cops. I asked, which cops. They said local cops. Which doesn't make sense at all.

So I tried to call cops in Delaware, the place where they are located.

Guess what? Delaware cops do not even have email address. What am I missing here? This is an online crime and I am reporting it to cops that do not have email address?

What about DA? Do we report things to DA?

All this does is strengthen my association of "ex-con" with living in a police state. It no longer has any automatic negative connotation.

Exactly. According to this post of him, Roger apparently provoked the wrong people, and got sent to jail for a non-crime that normally is not actually punished.

It's crypto-totalitarianism. Everyone is a potential "criminal". Provoke the wrong people, and they may literally destroy your life.
This exact same thing happened to a friend of mine's dad. He ran for state political office and they threatened to destroy his life if he didn't quit the race. When he didn't, they trumped up some absolute garbage about how the insurance company he owned sent some business paperwork with mistakes in it through the mail, constituting mail fraud. He spent 10 years in jail. The case was complete nonsense, his business was the very clean, and everyone involved knew it. Our "justice" system is a joke.

What happened to your dad? What race? What mistakes? What court case? Who was your dad. You can pm me.

Thank you for your message and understanding, to start off you may reach out to your local cyber crime law enforcement if this is offered in your region. You can then check with your local law enforcement if there's an international route you'd need to take.

As for which IP and which API key was compromised, we'll look into this matter after reaching out to our relevant teams and get back to you, thank you for your patience. If you have any other questions, please do not hesitate to ask.

As of now, they do not tell me which API key the hacker used. One API key belongs to cryptolend and another I save at my hard disk in plain text. So I do not know, as of now, which one is broken.

Also they told me to contact law enforcement. I asked which one and they said local cyber crime law.

Obviously not a good advice. Who should I contact? Interpol? Police? Who?

Police first maybe, but to be honest I don't think you'll get back your funds.

Police or attorney general?

As of now Polo does not tell me which API is compromised. This is very important for me. If the API for cryptolend that is compromised, for example, then the culprit can be one of their customer service. If the one compromised is the one in my computer, for example, then the culprit is a spyware.

I would like to report to police or attorney general in Delaware.

The hacker most likely have access to my API.

This may be the key for the problem.
Did you ever did tests with your API key? Did you use trading bots? Did you access Polo from other computers?

I mean, let's see what could have went wrong. I would not expect Polo find anything.
Inside job is hard to catch, even if there would be willingness for that.
You want them to catch suspect trades with the API. I'd expect people do bad/suspect trades themselves for various reasons.

On the other hand, such "advertising" you are making them has the potential to make people wary and Polo lose money. Polo gets that money you lost in less than a day from fees. So I'd not count that much also on inside job.

Sorry for your loss...

I am not blaming polo. At least not entirely. As of now Polo hasn't given me any confirmation how the hacker trades. Really using my API or just inside job. They didn't tell me which API is used by the hacker. I don't think they bother checking the log.

It's as if they think it's not their money anyway and they don't care even though I am not the first with this problem at polo. Others have similar almost identical problem.

I do not think Polo deliberately steal from me. It's ridiculous.

Other people with the same fate that I did do not have trade API!!!!!

They don't have 2FA either. I have 2FA. So it could be that some hacker managed to crack my 2FA and get in.

It doesn't seem polo "cares" about this incident. I have remove potential data breach from other sites. So far, I saw this things happen only on POLO.

I think I want to report this to cops. Which jurisdiction I should report this too? Should I talk to attorney general or cops?
12  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Hacker Trades Account and Empty Funds. BEWARE. In Poloniex. on: September 27, 2018, 05:30:20 AM
This just happened to me on Kraken.com... Logged in to find out someone has been trading my coins off for the past two days, he allmost took it all.

Changed password and contacted Kraken support, which seemed to trigger them disabling my account - gg Kraken, could have done that 2 days ago when someone started messing with my account  Cry

How much did you lose? Do you have API? Do you have 2FA?

I got 2 FA but the breach seems to come from API

So Kraken also cannot detect obvious try to lose trading?

The accounts must have been trading among themselves. The hacker can trade all of my coin but won't be profited if the hacker isn't the counter party of those trade. Also having your total amount of bitcoin drop so suddenly due to trading and not due to price movement should trigger some automatic alarm. Am I hoping for too much here?

I lost about 0.8 BTC, which for most probably aint much, for me it has been allmost all of my holdings. I had/have 0.1 BTC left now. Most ridiculous part is, i have only just recently been starting to be more active trading, logging in regularly again. then ive not been in my account for 2-3 days, which is about the timespan he has been trading in. Also its happened rather unregularly, stopping for the night for example.

No 2FA, i exchanged safety for comfort.. With that "little" amount on my account, i didnt bother. Infact i have been careless.
I for myself havent been using API, nor do i know if i could have disabled it. I do not think he has been using it tho, as as of my understanding Krakens 'API call rate limit' should have disabled the account pretty quick.

No reply from Kraken so far, ill keep this updated.

So it happens in Kraken too? Why don't you make another thread for your case so I can examine that one too.

Poloniex definitely do not have rate limit.

Anyway

From the log, the actual attack happens within minutes from

9/8/2018 10:24 to 9/8/2018 10:16  within those 2 minutes my balance drop even though price (or at least moving average price) are not moving at all on the currency. That is the KNC/BTC   attack.

It's then followed by another attack on

9/8/2018 10:27- 9/8/2018 10:43 . The pair is BTCD XMR.

The technique is almost the same with other similar incidents also in poloniex. The difference is those other cases the victim report that the hacker actually used web interface.

I mean if this happens once in polo I understand. This has happened several times and Polo doesn't have automatic alarm for this sort of thing?

Anyone else heavily trading (and gaining money) for the same pair at the same time is the hacker. I bet there is an account

on 9/8/2018 10:24 to 9/8/2018 10:16 that also trades KNC BTC pair matching the trade on my account. That is the hacker.

Polo said they have reasons to believe the hacker used API. It could be that none of my API and none of my password is compromised. The hacker may be someone inside polo.

Poloniex replies.

They did reply within days. It's as if they think this is priority. I got to commend them for that. Kudo if they can put the piece of shit that did this to jail for life.

I wouldn't mind putting 1-2 bitcoin as honey pot if that means I can hurt these vermin really bad.

However, they provide very little information. All they said so far is they think my account is compromised and is blocked. Which is understandable.

They didn't tell me API used. They just asked me how I used my API.

Still waiting for their reply again.

Waiting up for their reply regarding on this situation. When i do look at on the trades above you can really able to spot out that they are depleting hacked accounts funds and no trader/account owner would definitely do that thing.I'll keep my eye on this thread to read up the updates because this is quite odd situation on poloniex side.

Is there a source for all this information?
Transactions or order history would already sufficient.

Poloniex replied. However they give so far VERY LITTLE INFORMATION. That is important information I NEED to prevent another similar breach. If they did it because they suspected I may have bad intention, I understand. However, it seems that the guy handling this isn't doing much and move very slowly.

Hi XXX,

Thank you for your response and for the helpful additional information. Can you please confirm which of the following API connection is with Cryptolend and which is the one you use for checking your balances.

HWIK5JT9-
0DAW12U6-

We have reasons to believe that one of your APIs were compromised, if a hacker had access to your API secret, they can essentially bypass the regular login to conduct trades which is what had happened which is not subject to 2FA authentication at this point. That's how APIs function, and the API secret must only be known to you.

Answers to the above question will allow us to look into the matter further. Thank you for your cooperation.

Best,
Poloniex Support Team

We have reasons to believe that one of your APIs were compromised? Have reason to believe? Who did that trade? The API? Or the normal login? They don't have that log? May be they thought I pulled this up my self. All poloniex account need to be verified. Using false ID to verify things is a crime. I hope there is something government can do to skin the hacker alive.

All these could have been prevented by making sure that API cannot trade. Cryptolend also have an option to allow only their API to do trades. However, other poloniex cases do not mention API at all. Unless API are used but they're not being told.

It takes some programming to do this. And it can happen on any other exchange. However, poloniex seems to be the only one plagued with this problem that I know off. It's as if the hacker have programs to drain Polo account but not others yet.

Hi Guys,

First of please be nice and constructive. I had my fortune stolen away and I am at a very bad place, infact I am depressed ($17000 worth of my savings that took me more than 8 years to save). I would appreciate if you guys can give me honest suggestions of what to do or if there is any chance Poloniex will refund me for the hack that happened.

So here is what happened as I sent email to Poloniex but they have not responded to me yet:

TICKET NUMBER # 271818

Dear Poloniex,
My account was hacked this morning at 2:50 am BST (british standard time). I am devastated as I had upwards of $17000 worth of portfolio of coins. Someone logged into my account, converted all the coins to BTC first, then to BCN, then he went on to a very illiquid BCN/XMR and started buying high and selling very low at huge spreads. I suspect he was on the other side of the trade to profit from it. I am sure you can easily find out who the culprit by checking on the other side of the trade.
Please check the activity between 2:50 am - 3:00 am BST (british standard time). This is a clear theft where your site has been hacked to gain access to my account and upwards of $17000 was stolen from my account.
I have contacted the Attorney General at your state who has advised me to contact you directly first before taking it further with him.
I have the evidence of the email I received at 2:50 am BST, the ip address where it was logged in from and I have also downloaded the transactions to prove it.
Please look into this issue asap and get back to me please. This is my hard earned savings over past 7 years and I will leave no stone unturned to get this resolved.
Thanks

So here is the email above. Please suggest what to do, I have also reported it to Police and action fraud. I did not have 2FA. I did not use this password on any other sites.
I know I am very silly not to have 2FA. This thread is all about what options I have, please suggest.

Thanks in advance

HERE IS HOW THE ATTACK UNFOLDED

Here is how the attack unfolded:

Someone hacked into my account on the 26th of June at 02:50 AM BST (British standard time) to do unauthorised trading. First he converted all my coins into bitcoin. Then bought BCN form BTC. Then the attacker went on to XMR/BCN (which is very illiquid) and traded a very wide spread, kept buying very high and selling very low until my account turned from $17000 to mere $450. To carry out this attack the hacker must have been on the other side of this illiquid XMR/BCN pair to profit from i.e., collecting huge spread in the process by trading his account against my hacked account

It happened to me. Do you have API?

I believed the hacker must have used API and must have traded automatically. To be able to drain 17k within 10 minutes he must have done so many quick trades.

Mine is hidden too. I can see it's hidden if I open my profile in other browser.

How do I make sure it's hidden? Where is the settings?

I guess they doing winning trades against your losing trades to drain hacked accounts.

That is precisely what I think. So poloniex by now must have known who did it. However, did they found this out before the hacker steal the account.

So far I know 2 such cases.

I am the third one.

Another way to prevent this is to limit IP use to only trusted IP. The thing is my IP changes all the time. Binance have a bot that will prevent alarm when users deplete their funds like this. But I've heard they managed to detect it only because the hacker do it big.

I still don't know how the hacker knows my API list. There are 2 APIs there. One for cryptolend and one for my own program. Both can trade. I wonder which one the hacker use?

Also most of my money should be in lending. Even I can't just cancel lending and move it to trading. How can the hacker do it?
