Yeah, it is correct, you need ETH in your MEW wallet to cover transaction fee. Also for security sake I would advocate to  sign your transaction using the cold  MEW wallet  and then send  that signed one via online MEW.

I wouldn't overestimate it and say it is among the good ones. Nevertheless  I have a lot of faith in this and accumulate INS,  everything seems to be groovy - kaboom.
