******   ANNOUNCEMENT  ******

http://ezc.pnwminer.com is back up.

After testing out several other front ends, I decided to stay with my original setup with a few changes/fixes in place.

1. PPLNS is now Dynamic
2. Manual Payouts are once again available but they do batch up and run every 10 minutes or so.
3. Stratum difficulty is now set to 32 and hashrate reporting should be fairly accurate.

Good to be back home and having fun again Smiley

ATTENTION TO ALL PEOPLE MINING EZC.PNWMINER.COM POOLS
****************************************************************
June 23, 2013 - 11:29AM PST
I will be moving around for a few weeks and as such, will not be able to monitor and maintain the pools. That being said, I going to stop mining on them at 5PM PST, June 23 (so about 5 1/2 hours from now). Please stop mining ASAP. The sites will not be shutting down, but the stratum backend will be shutdown. The sites themselves will stay up until I am settled back in after July 8. At that point I will be reactivating the pools with new front-ends. I have been monitoring both pools and I will hang onto all of the share info for the users, so that everyone gets paid correctly as the blocks all mature.

On that note, please sign in to the site and make sure you have an automatic threshold set and an email address registered in case I need to communicate further. If possible, try to withdraw any coins you have banked here.

Thanks for mining with us and I will see everyone in a few weeks with a new frontend for my sites.

It is POSSIBLE to run a stratum/mmcfe pool in Windows, but it is actually much more difficult (and buggy) to do than in Linux. Stick with p2pool if you want to run a Windows pool. I have been slowly writing up a tutorial on linux/Stratum/Coin/MMCFE, but it is nowhere near ready yet and the whole procedure is definitely not a trivial undertaking. Soon though, sooon. Smiley

Oh and what happened to my pool was a few users with INCREDIBLE amounts of hashing power jumped on. I had several coinpools running on the same server and it was not quite ready for that kind of hit. I have gone down to just 2 coins now and things are working MUCH better.

Not almost 51%... 105%!   Anyone have any idea how my pool would be reporting numbers like this?  3 guys just jumped on and they are doing more than the supposed max hashrate! Any input would be appreciated. Either PM me here or send me an email from the site!  Thank You!

Slow in what way? I run ezc.pnwminer.com and if there is a problem with it, please let me know. Slow payouts? Slow connection speed? Slow block finding? Input is always welcome! Smiley

133  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Coin competition is NOT healthy on: May 09, 2013, 03:40:09 PM
I think I can see both sides of this coin (so to speak).

Who wants crypto to succeed in the world at large?

1. The Developers
2. The Miners
3. The Altruists who who wants things for the good of the community.
4. The Revengist - those who just want to stick it to the government any way they can.

Who doesn't want it to succeed?

1. The government - it is nearly impossible for them to control (unless they threw a lot of resources at each and every currency and forcibly devalued them).
2. The bank - OMG!  No more fees!
3. The people who are frightened that little Susie or Brad will buy illegal items with this new currency (which they could have done all along with cash anyway).

The bottom line is competition IS healthy is MOST environments. In this environment though we are seeing so many new currencies come out that they are diluting the entire pool of resources. At one point every town in the US had it's own currency and that idea failed MISERABLY. They were forced to create the federal reserve so that their money would have value in all foreseeable locations.

And natural selection IS a good thing, but only if a new currency actually has a valuable, marketable, and usable feature that would make it a good candidate for survival. A dozen different coins all with different attributes will just make Crypto-Currency as a whole less attractive for adoption into the global market. Who wants to have to sort through 10-20 different coins, just to pay with a currency that happens to have a feature that is valuable with THIS transaction?

Is any currency perfect? Nope. Since perfect means different things to different people. For right now, the end result is to get enough of one coin to trade it into BTC, so that it can be used (almost) universally.

The issue with all of the current new cryptocoins is that they seem to be coming out so fast, that they resemble a Get-Rich-Quick scheme...

1. Invent an item.
2. Find gullible investors to buy it from you.
3. Get rich.
4. Laugh while value drops.
5. Move on to next thing or buy back at low prices and resell again.
6. Repeat steps 1-5.

So in all fairness, everyone is right...

Except the trolls, of course Smiley

FAQ available at http://pnwminer.com/faq.php Please read it first.

PM CaptainAK if you have any questions or just to let me know you have joined. I have a few Feathercoin floating around to hand out to users of my FC pool.  Wink

If I have posted this in the wrong location, please let me know and I will happily move it. It is my first [ANN] post.

BTW, this was moved from Project Development. This seems a better place for it.

137  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: When I install and run Bitcoin-Qt, am I considered a 'node' of the network? on: April 25, 2013, 04:55:40 PM
You're right Danny, but that is why 'node' needs to be defined. It is always providing validation and forwarding, but a persons intent is important to the question: mining node or transactional node. It does 1 (transactional) automatically, but if that is not why you are running it (you plan on mining), then just running the client doesn't really do anything.

I have a few people who might be interested in picking up a few. Maybe we could start a thread of a site even for people to sign up and put into a pot to get a big group buy going. Any ideas?
140  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: When I install and run Bitcoin-Qt, am I considered a 'node' of the network? on: April 25, 2013, 02:38:40 PM
Define 'node'..   When you run the Bitcoin client, you are getting the same blockchain as everyone else. It is probably not doing anything special though. You could try mining against it directly, but unless you have some SERIOUS hashing power, you will probably never get anything. You could also try running bitcoin client and P2Pool. That would get you set up with a pool as a smaller node. Your chances of getting a share (which could still take a while) go up significantly.

If neither of those appeal to you, then you should just consider mining against a pre-existing pool and not bother with the Bitcoin client at all. Just run a miner and the whole thing would be a lot simpler.
