I'm really sorry for the problems Sad bitcoind has crashed over the weekend while I was away, as has the watchdog. I've now started it manually and processed all the pending transactions (deposits and withdraws).

Back to normal operation now Smiley

I never understood what purpose these sites have. Nonetheless, this site uses Bitcoins, so I've just signed up so you can now also use me as referrer Grin

Wow I'm flattered! You all really like my game it seems, thank you so much! Soon there will be the 10000th game played!!! The user playing this one will receive a suprise Smiley
Ok with a bit delay I'm very happy and also very proud to announce that way more than 10000 games have been played! I've added 10.00 BTC to the user's account!

This time I unfortunately cannot deduce the forum name from the account name. So, to whoever is the lucky guy: thanks for playing on my site, and congratulations for playing the 10000th game and receiving this award Smiley

Any idea what the time frame for adding splitting to the game is? I was begging for a split button more than once when I started off with a pair of A's or 8's vs a dealer bust card.
I'll try to get some free time next week, so maybe then. Otherwise it should be done the week after. I just realize that without the splitting the odds are better for the bank than they should. I'll try to compensate for this with some new bonus deposit promotion (giving away all the few coins I've made so far)!

Thus I created an account named "throwaways" and do a getnewaddress for that "throwawats" account pretty much every time I am thinking of asking for any account's address. That seemed to make the hanging/freezing go away.
Thanks for the hint! I've implemented that now, we'll see if it works as good for me as it does for you Smiley

great start! things should be easy to implement:
- refresh cards through ajax
- show current player's and dealer's points

probably, not so easy to implement:
- split button
I don't want to show the current points to make it more real (one commenter in this thread even mentioned specifically that he likes it cause of that). When playing Blackjack on the PC I'm always annoyed by the point displays.

Split will come "soon", and AJAX after the other interesting features (as it's just eye candy IMHO).

surrender option would be nice too.
Surrender? Why would you do that? You can just "Stay" and still have a chance of winning. Or would "Surrender" give back (some of) your money?
46  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Bitcoin Show on OnlyOneTV.com on: May 07, 2011, 09:06:21 AM
I've watched the first show and -- against my expectations -- really enjoyed it! Thanks a lot! Hope to see more from you soon Smiley

Wow, quite some feedback here. Many thanks you're really awesome!! Cool

I noticed while playing that when I bet .05 and won with blackjack that I was only awarded .12 instead of .125 ... I didn't check my wallet but it looks like the wallet only uses 2 decimal places. Any way to have the wallet use 3 decimal places for play purposes but only cash out 2 decimal places? Or else let people know they need to bet in even increments to get their full payout.
That's why the minimum bet is 0.02 (but I didn't think of the BlackJack 2.5 win, whoops!). I will soon put a new version online where I do the calculations with 3 decimal places. Then the minimum bet will be just 0.01, and you won't lose half a bitcent. Anyway all the games are recorded so once I put this version up I will recalculate so you get you 0.005 back (or more if this situation happened more often). Thanks for noticing!

Site seems to be down.
I just signed up for a new account and now I get the following error:

Quote
SQL ERROR - sorry

Edit: Refreshing the play page is very slow. It takes about 1 minute and then I get either the SQL ERROR page or the play page with a blank bitcoin deposit address.
Again problems with bitcoind Sad I detect when it crashes and restart it immediately, but unfortunately sometimes it just gets stalled which I cannot detect easily. Thus I restart it every 60 minutes. So for now sometimes this error may occur but it should not last longer than an hour. Sorry for the inconvenience, it's quite a bummer for me that I hope to be able to fix soon Roll Eyes

How long does it take for funds to be credited to my account?
I sent a payment to the address it gave me over an hour ago and still nothing in my account!  Huh

Look for how many confirmations you have on the transaction. I think it needs at least 5 before funds are deposited.
One confirmation is enough. From time to time I manually accept transactions without confirmation if they are small and seem legit.

Just my two cents - it's great, but no five card charlie. Everything else has worked fine so far though!
Right now this site uses European BlackJack rules where there is not Five Card Charlie rule. I plan to implement other rules as well, though that may take a bit of time.

I have .02 BTC stuck with 0 confirmations for about 6 hrs now on the way. maybe i shouldve sent more Huh
If you send more the transaction is likely to be accepted faster by the bitcoin network (it's a "problem" with the network, not with my site). Anyhow I've manually accepted your transaction even though it's still unconfirmed. I hope that I will eventually really get your coins Wink

@Third War: The system has received your coins, nothing is lost! I'm sorry for the trouble but I've noticed a bug that I must fix. I'm getting the random numbers from random.org, but sometimes the site doesn't respond fast enough.

Not sure if you've fixed this already, but perhaps you could keep a buffer of random data and have some job refill that buffer periodically/when it gets low.
Thanks, that's a good idea and way better than my current approach (use local rand() if random.org doesn't work). I will implement it in the next version. Thanks again!
48  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Play BlackJack with Bitcoins! on: May 06, 2011, 08:17:38 AM
(However the play ends up being you really need to someone analyze it to make sure that you have a house advantage.)

I've never analyzed my rules, I'm just using the ones I know from some casinos and assume that these rules have indeed a small house advantage (and assume that the casinos I go to don't cheat Wink

Edit: I just looked it up http://wizardofodds.com/blackjack/strategy/european.html and it indeed does look like a legit type of blackjack. You might want to specify that this is European/UK blackjack vs American style. That would be frustrating as all hell for me to be in a casino and pull out a 6 card 21, on a split, or even double after a split, and the dealer pull a blackjack to beat all of it, I'd rather lose to a blackjack up front.

If you really want a mind twister, go look up Spanish 21 rules, that's big where I'm at. All (number only) 10 cards are taken out of the deck, player gets paid immediately upon getting 21, even if the dealer ends up having blackjack. You are allowed to double down more than once, but you have to double the amount on the table ... if you bet 5 and double, you can double again for 10 more for the next card.
Woah there's really a ton of nuances in these rules. I've made this site quite modular so it would be really possible for me to offer some kinds of rules to chose from! I guess I'll add a poll here soon to find out whats the most interesting feature (different rules, splitting, multitable/multiplayer)

Game ID: 89dfd24c1745608f36fab43f106e7fda

I get a 10 A for 21 .. stand

Dealer has a 7 and draws a 7 for 14 after I stand and the game stopped there and said I won.

The dealer did not complete the draw to => 17 or bust.

Maybe because a BJ will beat any other 21, so he didn't bother? Hmm, guess he wouldn't need the second card either in that case.

Except in this version (currently) the dealer doesn't have a hole card. The dealer only has 1 card showing then draws the rest of it's cards after the player stands. If I start off with blackjack then the dealer should play it's hand out to try to draw to a push. In this case it only drew one card for a total of 14 and did not meet the criteria of drawing to >=17.

Ah, maybe it's like he does have a hole card, and the second card is just the 'hole' card being turned over to see and then there is no draw because you have BJ.

Right now, it's this:
1. dealer gets first card which is shown
2. player gets two cards
3. player plays
4. dealer plays

So the second card for the dealer is not the "hole" card you know from US BlackJack. I see that the European rules I know may differ from the rules the majority here knows. Overall it shouldn't really make a difference if the dealer gets a second card earlier or later. I just personally like the fact that by your acting (how many cards you draw) you influence the card the dealer gets! That sometimes makes for some funny "Ouch, if I hadn't drawn the last card "3" the dealer would have gotten the "3" instead of the "A"" Smiley
51  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Play BlackJack with Bitcoins! on: May 06, 2011, 05:38:18 AM
The dealer only gets one card. If you wouldn't have taken your last card (the 10), then the dealer would have gotten it instead of the A. So, you really have to play, as this impacts also the cards that the dealer gets.

I know that there are different rules depending on the Casino. I've played at locations where the dealer would get a second card which is not revealed. But in the most Casinos where I play the dealer only gets one card and this is how I implemented this on my site.

Is this okay for everyone, or should I change this?

I've played all over the US and I've never seen a time where the dealer only got 1 card then got the next card after all the players had completed their turn.

If you're going to do it that way then it should be a tie since the dealer drew 21 against my 21 ... not I lose because they ended up getting 21 also.

It's an interesting concept, especially since we're playing solo. I would be ok with it as long as the change above is implemented.
First of all, I'm not from the US so maybe that's why the rules you and me know differ Grin

In this example the dealer got K A which is a BlackJack and therefore beats your "normal" 21!

So no bug, but a feature.

You've got a BlackJack. The only chance for the dealer to not lose is to also get a BlackJack (then the result would be a tie), therefore he draws just a second card. But it's true that after the first 7 there is no chance for the dealer to get a BlackJack so the game should have just ended after your BlackJack. I'll improve the BlackJack check!

Splitting (especially A's) would be nice also.

I'm hope that's in the future.

That will be implemented once I've ironed out all the other bugs Smiley

Any plans to implement multi-player tables?
Yes, definitely! Smiley

i think your bitcoind crashed again....site seems real sluggish too..is that normal?
True, bitcoind crashed again. The good thing is that you can still play in this case, only depositing and withdrawing and registering new accounts is affected. I don't know why bitcoind keeps crashing (or getting stalled in this case). I'll implement an auto restarter, maybe every hour, to work around this.

Thanks for all your feedback it's really appreciated! And keep playing, in about four hours I will count the winning members (see first post) out and give them their bonus Smiley

Very well made! But if I can recommend you something: add balance so that it's more visible when playing.
Good idea, thanks, will do that soon!

Is this "real" Blackjack where you can card count, or "fake" Blackjack with random numbers?
It's "real". I get a batch of random numbers from random.org which determine the position of each card in the stack. Though you cannot really count if you don't play many games in a short time, as the cards for all games are played from the same stack of cards.

You really should add ssl to your page, you can get a cert for free from startssl.com for example.
I don't know if that is possible with my hoster (1btchost.com). If not I will *maybe* change hosters, though I only want to use services that accept Bitcoins. Yes, although my site not 100% "green" it's 100% "Bitcoin" Cool
54  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Play BlackJack with Bitcoins! on: May 05, 2011, 04:15:39 PM
I sent my bitcoins a 30 minutes ago and it hasn't shown up in my funds....what the heck is going on?
Are you sure you've sent your coins to the right address? You can check at www.blockexplorer.com/address/[your_address] if your transaction is in the bitcoin network. I've just checked the URL with your account's address and cannot find the transaction there. So it's no problem from my side, be assured that your coins are not lost once they get to me Smiley
Does your bitcoin client list the transaction as sent? Sometimes it takes a little lower to get a transaction accepted from the bitcoin network.

Edit: Ok, I've checked. You've made a very small amount and the bitcoin network takes longer to verify it because you didn't include a small fee for the block's miner. I've now accepted your deposit manually, so you can play right now Cool If you don't want to wait in the future you should either made bigger transaction or you should add a small fee in the bitcoin software (this does not depend on me, but on the whole network!).
55  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Confused by automatic addition of tx fees by sendmany on: May 05, 2011, 10:59:46 AM
You can specify how much fees you want to sent per 1KB with the -paytx cmdline argument.

For my site I'm using a fixed fee of 0.01 to help support the network. (Using bitcoind [...] -paytxfee=0.01)
56  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Play BlackJack with Bitcoins! on: May 05, 2011, 10:43:17 AM
Yes, random.org bite me again, I've just received empty strings instead of random numbers Sad

I've now added a check and use my own random numbers in this case. I've stopped all running games, paid the bets back, and re-opend!

@deadlizard: That's not a bug, but a feature Grin Since I've screwed up when opening the page I wanted to get you to play as fast as possible and thus I removed the waiting for confirmations. I've now changed it back to needing 1 confirmation.
57  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Play BlackJack with Bitcoins! on: May 05, 2011, 09:47:34 AM
