1. Is the conversion from AMC -> ActM shares automatic ? 1.a. What is AMC-TENDER ? 2. What is the estimated time-frame for glueing the 20,000 Avalon ASIC chips into motherboards and building working systems from them ?

Ken: Investing in ASICminer shares as a means to preserve capital is a *really bad* idea for capital savings.
The problem is that they can crash by over 90% for they could be grossly overvalued.
For example: At 400,000 shares x 4 BTC/share their market cap is 1.6 million BTC. It is risky to buy at this valuation. Please read history about South Sea company stock bubble.

While any start-up company has risks, and AMC is definitely a start-up (with implied risk), I am prepared to invest 20-50 Bitcoins in it's stock based on solid prospects. I have read the prospect and liked it.
In addition, I would like to see financial statements once every quarter (or every month). I don't ask them to be audited, because auditing costs are way too high for a start-up company, but they should exist. As company grows, auditing should be added.
News statement has poor wording though, for example the relation is unclear between Active Mining, Active Mining Corp and Virtual Mining Corp.
The explanation is this: (by <serp>) AMC used to be the mining company, VMC was the company that was going to make the chips, ActiveMining (AM) is now the combination of both to my knowledge

Manipulating market is just stupid. If you keep price too low, shortages develop, if too high and forbid selling, miners can't pay their bills. (for new hardware plus electricity).
Let the free market decide.

There are few realistic ways for you to buy Bitcoins: wire transfer your money to an exchange (like Mt.Gox) -or- transfer cash via Western Union and get Bitcoins. (you can do this via #bitcoin-otc channel).
Under any case you will have to pay in major currency (Yen, U.S. dollar, Euro or British Pound).

The good news, is that I'we got a set of physical Bitcoins from Casascious (1 BTC each) as well as did a physical Qumble DVD with Light-scribe finish. I can sell a set of those in a bundle, Price: 1.5 BTC + shipping. (possibly will accept PayPal from serious buyers) Details: http://qumble.org/bitcoin.htmlemail: AL4321 /* AT */ gmail.com -Technologov

How to estimate the amount of real (non-speculative) transactions ?
i.e. how many people actually buy goods for bitcoins ?
|
|
|
IMO it doesn't exists, because Bitcoin is very volatile. One day it's 1 BTC=$260, the other is 1 BTC=$60. Now, if you hate fiat, you can count in loafs of bread. The ultimate test of value. One day it's 1 BTC=130 bread, the other is 1 BTC=30 bread. Problematic, huh ? IMO: only time where it matters to pay in Bitcoin denomination is if you buy Bitcoin-equivalent: i.e. Bitcoin miner or physical Bitcoin. -Technologov

1. How do I buy 10 Bitcoins ? 2. Are they are real ? anyone tested them and could redeem for Gox Bitcoin ?

Certain exchanges, such as Bitcoinica, Coinsetter and others offer the feature to "short sell" Bitcoins.
How does it work ?
Do they work like fractional reserve banking, basically ? i.e. take from longs and give bitcoin-denominated loans to shorts? What if all longs wanna withdraw ? They will force-close short positions of their clients ?
In the traditional world of fiat, in Forex markets, banks lend from each other. But this is impossible with the current climate in Bitcoin. I.e. Mt.Gox will not lend coins to coinsetter, or anyone else.
Ideas ?

...and in Israel in the meanwhile the Gvmt. today (2.May.2013) just decided to print few dozens of billions of new shekels... (good time to buy a coin...) Actually today.. they wanna up the deficit from 3% to 5%. 1. It means issuing more bonds at first 2. more taxes second 3. and probably also print some money, because economy will slow down (due to higher taxes)
Question is:
anyone knows how a deficit of 3% --> 5% will affect exchange rates to other (fiat) currencies ? (obviously deflationary money like Gold and Bitcoin will rise much more...) How to calculate / predict such stuff, long-term ?
