1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] DERO: DAG + Cryptonote + Bulletproofs + SSL + POW + Smart Contracts on: August 15, 2019, 12:32:44 AM
Re: Omniring coming to Dero, please listen to this conversation with one of the paper co-authors on Omniring.
Tim Ruffing on Omniring, a new RingCT method
Apparently, Monero tag format needs to be modified as it is incompatible with the current one, and also while proof size can be reduced substantially for large ring size (size is a log function rather than linear), the public keys if included will still result in bloated TX sizes. It will be interesting how Captain is going to solve this, he must be a really good cryptographer if he pulls it off.

Congratulations on the KuCoin listing!
I see that GITHUB has not been updated for 5 months. I want to know if the core development team is running smoothly and whether any members of the team are leaving the project.Just want to know. Thank you.
The last minor update was indeed 4 months ago and the last major update was 7 months ago with Stargate release on a testnet (commit 05c5a9b455) DeroProject/derosuite_stargate. We can only hope for more transparency over time and trust that Captain & Co. are chugging along on developing the next breakthrough in Dero core. Now that the Dero Foundation has been formed I am pretty sure we will see more good things soon such as roadmap updates, a marketing campaign, more exchange listings (Coinbase?), and infrastructure development by third parties. They already announced professional re-branding.

So i am asking, how is DERO planning to scale to reach higher TPS, we would Need aprox 100k TPS to replace VISA for example.
But another question is, are really TPS a good metric here in the case of DERO, where its BlockDAG infrastructure is imune to latency, and those blocks can stack on each other indefinetly ?
You are correct, TPS is not a good metric and Dero is not aiming to replace VISA at the moment. None of the PoW cryptocurrencies can do it now and PoS is not proven yet, the market cap shows it. Dero offers sufficient TPS to compete with the best PoW coins and also brings to the table unique technological solutions to real world problems, description of which can be found in its Whitepaper
Most of the known methods to increase TPS can be implemented on Dero if needed.

Dero is collecting 6.5 BTC in OTC sales towards an exchange listing. Anyone interested please contact Captain or Joshy in Discord/Telegram.

In my knowledge, DERO is not the only altcoin which has the mechanism, based on DAG, right?
Dero is not the only one, but most other DAG coins have DAG of transactions, not blocks. Ethereum has uncle block mining that is somewhat similar.

Tell me (and be honest) – what d'you reckon is the biggest obstacle you'd have to overcome on your journey to success?
Smart Contracts feasibility is the next big thing, until it is on the testnet there will be doubt.

Regarding the distribution curve, it would be nice, it's a marketing tool for easy reading

At block 721000 a hardfork will happen. Please update your daemon to 2.1.0 from https://github.com/deroproject/derosuite/releases
GUI wallet users do not need to update it.
Major change that concerns miners and investors: side block reward will decrease from 67% to 8%.
Changes are listed here: https://github.com/deroproject/derosuite/commit/05081d365b991914748d151f0f25ca5dd19f47cc

Duh, my bad. move funds provide private key, bam done. I assume nefarious because it is a simple and quick thing to prove and he has not proven it.
Captain proved it by moving the funds within the wallet in https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2525508.msg42075270#msg42075270. Everyone can check it with the publicly available viewkey f221cf4f77d11f0061f3e4c9615540cbc2d2d532ac2f08c623d2a72ad0145d702b7e5941737e041 6eebaba30c3c30b517a14db1efa9aa13b119e31c380313603.

What is your hidden agenda behind this FUD? I do not believe you are trying to warn fellow members out of the goodness of your heart.  Wink

The code on Github is still a rewrite of cryptonote in a new language. Before you dismiss that, I think you should take into consideration how hard that is. It requires a deep understanding of cryptography and blockchain. If anybody that can even understand that piece would like to come forward with bugs/security flaws in the Github code, I will allow them to cast a shadow of doubt on the years of experience required to write it (or read it properly).
What Dero devs accomplished so far was a really hard task done very quickly and it seems with rather few bugs they needed to patch. It tells you they are very talented and hard working. There are very few developers in the whole crypto space who can be compared to them. They must have their reasons for the secrecy surrounding the project and we should respect this.

Dero has very talented and experienced developers indeed.
Has anyone reviewed the Atlantis source code yet? Please post your findings.

Re: TPS. It was a bug on the testnet stats page showing transactions per block, not transactions per second. The block time was increased to allow for smooth block propagation. On a fast network should be able to get higher speed in the future. It is currently the fastest trustless network at the base layer.

The problem of lost trust extends into any long term planning and capital investment. Who will buy an ASIC knowing the algo can be switched overnight? Who will buy coins if reward can be changed without any warning?

And the question about regulatory pressure on incorporated Dero is valid too. Looks like many questions and concerns have been raised and not yet addressed by the team.

2. The short block time of ~10 seconds has one major downside: very little tolerance of variation in the system time. Currently Atlantis refuses to sync if the system time is off by +/-1 second, which is understandable given the block time of 10 seconds, but it is not terribly practical or robust in the real world, particularly with Windows computers, which the vast majority of people use. The suggested solution is to change the timeserver to pool.ntp.org but this isn't really the source of the problem, rather, it is that Windows only updates the time via the internet every 12 hours by default, and my daemon starts complaining about the time being off after 3-6 hours... I'm definitely not getting up in the middle of the night to manually update my clock and so the only other alternative is to use a paid-for 3rd party timeserver app (as suggested by @fellestreum).
Try Ridiculously Simple NTP Client, rsNTP download, it syncs every 30 min.
There is a bunch of other third party clients. Or you can potentially change the [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\W32Time\Config\UpdateInterval] value in clock ticks on Windows 7 or [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\W32Time\TimeProviders\NtpClient\SpecialPollInterval] value in seconds on Windows 10. I have not tried the registry keys, you can read up on these if you want.
Windows 10 NTP
Windows 7 NTP

Lol, today I have visited the webiste of Bitsum project.
It has been upgraded perfectly.
Its current user-interface is very professional, which you can experience yourself via the following link:
https://bitsum.money/
It is early signal that the project has been developed well.
Congratulations, Bitsum community.
Very nice, clean and informative.
Good to see the roadmap updated.
To anyone having questions about Telegram wallet, converting old wallet to new one etc please ask in the Telegram channel, the dev team is very active and helpful there. Very few coins have the benefit of direct communication.

No source code? Check.
62.5K coins available for PoW mining in the first 1000 blocks with 1.25M coins in premine? Check.

Effectively this is a pure PoS coin ICO entirely owned by the dev, I wonder who will fall for this obvious scam. Grin

A prediction can be made that the total crypto market cap will keep growing but not the individual coin prices. Bitcoin may lose its market share or even its role as a leader.

Pls can you also confirm that pool operator has updated to latest daemon and having decent hardware for stable pool.
No, i just reviewed commits of dero daemon and saw there no fixes regarding fork issue. Also last version of dero daemon (resynced from scratch) stll have Exception: cryptonote::BLOCK_DNE in log every 5 ms.
Forking is a complex problem. It would be more efficient to address it after the switch to golang daemon.
