http://theconversation.com/in-conversation-with-bitcoin-expert-and-nyu-professor-david-yermack-31048Professor Yermack, who once researched the economic impact of the fashion decisions of US First Lady Michelle Obama, has recently turned his hand to detailing some of the bizarre and humorous characteristics of Bitcoin. Like the Bitcoin ATM installed in Melbourne which offered to sell 1 Bitcoin for A$585 and buy 1 Bitcoin for A$523. Not only was the spread 10.5% but the current market rate for Bitcoin was $511 and so essentially the ATM company would be losing money on its transactions.

In addition to Lawrence, the star of The Hunger Games, the hacker also reportedly targeted Glee actress Lea Michele and model Kate Upton.

http://www.coindesk.com/makes-bitcoin-exchanges-tick/The next trade in the example above will execute either at the bid of $96.281 in case of a seller stepping in, or at $98 if a buyer is willing to pay the ask; more on this later. It’s important to note that transactions between sellers and buyers only occur if there are open bid and ask orders at the same price level.

http://www.wired.com/2014/08/openbazaar-not-for-drugs/When the recording industry smashed Napster with a $20 billion lawsuit more than a decade ago, filesharing morphed into Bittorrent, a fully peer-to-peer system with no central server for law enforcement to attack. Now the developers behind one software project are trying to pull off a similar trick with the anarchic model of bitcoin e-commerce pioneered by the billion-dollar Silk Road black market. And just as with Bittorrent, their new system may be so decentralized that not even its creators can control exactly how it will be used.
