141  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin for salary on: September 25, 2020, 03:11:40 PM
I think the government will interfere with that due to the tax matter. Also I think it would be unfair for the employee if they receive a bitcoin then the price drops because of the volatility of the market also it depends on the country whether the cryptocurrency is legal on a certain country.

I think that should be a choice of that employee.

The fact that the employee are accepting Bitcoin means they know what it is and how volatile it is. Obviously that would raise some brows since that could be really unfair to people that is why companies, if they ever think or thought of paying their people with Bitcoin, they should let them choose whether they will accept Bitcoin or fiat.

Agree, why would even an employee accept something that he doesn't want to use anyway? It will be so unfair especially if he really need the money right away for the bills he has to pay, and we all know almost all of those monthly payments only accept fiat currency. If bitcoin salary is a hassle for their everyday life, then we should not force them to receive bitcoin. We already know that bitcoin today isn't widely accepted in local stores today.

It will be fine as a choice for the employee but not as a fixed rule. Even though I use bitcoin, it's not good to hear as an employee, what more to those who have no idea what bitcoin is, and is living day to day waiting for the end of the month for the salary.
142  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How to make old people understand Bitcoin? on: September 25, 2020, 02:57:43 PM
I don't see any strategies that will work in teaching the old about Bitcoin.

We know already that the old people doesn't have the capability to memorize things because of their age, their are tend to forget easier compare to those people who are around the 30's or 40's. It is hard for them to teach Bitcoin especially for those old people who are not techy or not even exposed to the technology since on their prime, things

I disagree with you because the chance of old adults to understand bitcoin is there, it base on the tutor and also the level of understanding of learner. age dont have to do with understanding because I have seen young adult who has shallow brain, while some old  adults are very fast to comprehend a passage's ,and majority in bitcointalk community is up to 30yrs and 40yrs but their still doing well in forum.

Old people has the capacity to learn this kind of things, it will only depends if they are interested in learning it or not. Some old people are highly skilled about technology too, specially those who are in the field of technology, some are not into technology and didn't even own an android phone all their life. And yup its really hard to generalize them as someone who can't learn new things, age doesn't mean you have to stop learning. Its just that this thread is talking about those old people who are not into technology and harder to learn something technical. And you can't deny you've met this kind of old people too, maybe your uncle or aunt or your local neighbor who's always irritated with everything. Just kidding.
143  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2019 Philippine Basketball Association betting discussion on: September 20, 2020, 05:04:40 PM
He has accomplished a lot in the PBA, Sonny Thoss can still contribute to the team but he chooses to retire, anyway, 38 years old is not a bad age to retire. Maybe the pandemic has really change the minds of some veterans, the last news was about Jimmy Alapag leaving the Philippines for US, now Thoss retired from being a pro.

Good luck to him after PBA, hopefully he can still find a job like a coaching job.

And it's best for them to retire right now if they are really planning to do so. He's already at the age where he can really enjoy his life. Maybe he felt that the league will really take some time to be back. But I hope he has the best time of his life after this retirement. He's a successful PBA player, and he doesn't need to prove anything. I hope there's a proper retirement event for him after all of this, he has done so much for Alaska. I hope all athlete would not leave their sports with just a retirement news.
144  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do scams harm Bitcoin's reputation in the mainstream world? on: September 20, 2020, 04:50:47 PM
From what I have seen during the past 8 years, scams do play a major role in slowing down the mainstream adoption of Bitcoin. There are other factors as well, such as lack of legal clarity, usage in dark markets.etc, but IMO scams remain the number one factor. But is it right to blame Bitcoin for all these scams? Most of the scams occur as a result of greed or stupidity from the part of the investors. It is just like ponzis and pyramid schemes with fiat money. But in those cases no one actually blames fiat for those scams.

Yup, no one will see it cause they don't really understand bitcoin so whenever there's an illegal activity connected to bitcoin, the first thing that comes to their mind is bitcoin is the reason. They should not be involved in bitcoin and something like that. They never blame the person behind the scams, they blame the currency and technology itself, kind of unfair cause whenever they got scammed using a fiat money, they will never blame the fiat, who would do that right? It's because of the scammer and not because of the platform. I can even say that it's their fault for not researching before even doing something, I can say it both with fiat and bitcoin right? but it will feel wrong to blame them cause it sounds victim blaming, but they have the responsibility to do research. But in case of bitcoin, the currency itself takes the blame.
145  Economy / Economics / Re: Food prices doubled this year on: September 20, 2020, 04:41:24 PM
When i have time i go to local market to check prices

Vegetable prices doubled
Fruit prices doubled
Meat prices around 30% increase
Grain products around 20% increase
...

And my country is a exporter of food products

How is it in your country ? Same ?

It was really high during the hard lockdown, but during these times, the price is starting to go back to its original price, however, some market place has change already and the higher price they had during the lockdown stays. It's kind of a baggage for us cause we don't have our regular salary because of the pandemic then here we are with a high price on goods we need in our everyday life.
146  Economy / Economics / Re: Covid 19 shows how weak People are in the it mind on: September 20, 2020, 04:28:49 PM
Lol I don’t blame people for complaining about the Coronavirus,  the situation has not been easy.
Have you heard that a lot of people have lost their jobs because of this Coronavirus?

Majority of those people you’ve heard that lost their jobs don’t have another means of income, that means they will have to be relying on borrowing money to feed themselves and their family.

It’s not easy for so many people at this point in time, so that’s why they are all complaining. And another thing is that the government and every other organizations that’s giving loans won’t be able to give out loans to everyone, so what are those people going to do if they don’t get loans?

same thought, op can't really say that we have more opportunities right now if people are dying and some are looking for jobs. I guess he is speaking from a privilege point of view but it feels like he doesn't even has empathy. A toxic positivity is harmful, he's so angry with the people asking for help and change during these times as if he understands them all. This pandemic cause lives for others, you can't say it to just look at the brighter side if they lose someone or lose a job. And nope, this virus create higher unemployment rate.
147  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Gambling is Addictive...Pay Attention to your Gambling Habit!!! on: September 19, 2020, 09:13:28 PM
Some people have strong issue due gambling, they can't stop gambling, unfortunately they are just addicted.
I am curious to understand why some people become addicted while other not. It's not just a matter of self discipline. Probably there is a mechanism on human brain that can allow this issue, like drug addiction.
As reported by OP and It's always true, play for fun.
NEVER try to recover the losses since it will generate a negative effect were people are forced to play more ( = losing even more!)

I've read that there are underlying conditions why a gambling addict got addicted to gambling, it can be depression, anxiety, sadness, drug addiction, longing, and etc. They are addicted because there is something within, it's one of a reason why almost everyone here are talking about getting a professional, cause the professional will help you pinpoint that specific problem within to control your addiction. Some can do it themselves but some really need to talk with the professionals.
148  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What do think about skill games? on: September 19, 2020, 09:03:53 PM
Of course if I could choose a game, I will choose the game where I can really have the chance to win, the skills game, I may not be that skillful but at least I can improve and do something for myself to win.

It can also depend on my mood, If I'm too tired to think, then I'll go with the traditional games where luck should be your bestfriend. However, If I'm in the zone, I will always choose the skilled one. As much as I wanted to control my money, I also wanted to have a say about the game I'm playing, and not let luck decides my fate.
149  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2020 NBA Season on: September 19, 2020, 08:43:22 PM
Final Score is Lakers 126 , Nuggets 114.
Oh no, I was not able to watch the game for I have some things to do which is equally important. Probably will going to watch the highlights of the game.
If you are a Denver fan, you might get disappointed with their performance in game 1.
But go on, watch the highlights everything is there but mostly you will see is on who they got dominated by the Lakers.

If it was Clippers vs Lakers, things might be different.

So sad, that my choice did not make it to game 1. I just have to move on and hope that in game 2 they will be able to win it. If not then clearly it will be lakers play against the championship game. In the east conference boston and Miami too had been not good too with celtics. I was also hopingn for this team to get championship but it seems agaim that it will be impossible now with missing key players in their team.
The East had a good series though it was already Miami Heat who had a commanding lead but the last 2 games, games are very close and even in game 2 it always went into OT. Again, we will see a great game tomorrow, it's game 3 and it's a must win for the Celtics.

What can we say with Anthony Davis? He's unstoppable with that 37 points and a double double from lebron james, I'm with lakers with this one but I don't think it will be easy for them to defeat the nuggets. I guess it will reach game 6 or 7, lakers. With the eastern conference, I'm with the boston but it seems they are on the edgy side, but let's see if they can win to tie the series.
150  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: VALORANT Betting on: September 19, 2020, 08:34:50 PM
I've been seeing this to sports betting website on their E-sports section I thought it was some kind of common game I tried to watch a preview of this game it's interesting a shooting game and using skills it's a little bit complicated for me but seems a lot of players they have lately and that's why they were included on the E-sports section of some Sports betting website I'm playing.

Try it! It's a bit complicated at first because of the skills but you'll get used to it in less than 10 games. If I will compare it to cs go and other fps games, I will pick this one because of the skills and heroes. You have to pick your role and of course do your role cause it will cause you the game. It's fun to play with friends, so much tactics to remember and you're not just aiming like we used to on other fps games. It feels like a dota 2 and counter strike merge into one.
151  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Inspirational gambling quotes. on: September 19, 2020, 08:23:47 PM
Among the qoutes then this one is the best thing for everybody to remember on.

7. “Gambling is not about how well you play the games, it’s really about how well you handle your money.” -V. P. Pappy.

Its a pretty common advise but very helpful for anybody on which they should realize on how to control up their finances when they are
dealing with gambling. You wont get wrecked if you wont let that thing happen.

Same, this quote really got me. This is all about it folks, you have to be good in handling your money, you can never be blinded by gambling as long as you prioritize the money you've got. You can stop at any point when you've realized that you are not in a good position. I seldom gamble especially right now, but I think this is the best quote we should remember.
152  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2019 Philippine Basketball Association betting discussion on: September 19, 2020, 07:37:19 PM
Quite expensive but the PBA teams can surely afford this, the only question in my mind now is that can they operate profitably with that huge expense?

AFAIK they'll only get their revenue from sponsors and advertisements, are they gonna earn more than they will spend in the Bubble?

IIRC, PBA Commissioner Willie Marcial said that they won't expect much of a profit once the league resume as what matters to them is to give entertainment to the people. We can assume they already accept the fact that once they resume the league, cost > profit.

About the cost, they have funds to support the expense and they are ready to resume the league.

But for how long they can sustain the operation with only a few revenue, I don't know.

I just don't believe them saying it's just for fun, for sure higher ups will still require to earn a profit. They might as well not continue it if all they can have is their money losing. It will not work that way honestly. I think it will be pushed through if they see a certain light about gaining a profit for it, even just a few. Cause as you've said, they can't continue the operation with that set up.
153  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is bitcoin difficult to understand on: September 18, 2020, 07:50:52 PM
I don't really think bitcoin is hard to understand, but I think how it works, the blockchain technology around it, the mining, and sort of technicality is the hardest to understand. But understanding bitcoin is so easy, you just have to know how you can use it, and to understand that it's a currency. I agree with you about having textbooks for bitcoin, and I think there are already, thousands are here in the internet too, you just have to search and take a lot of time reading about it. Forum just like this is of course helpful, that's the point we are here right.

I think aside from having textbook, it is better to learn about bitcoin in videos, its better to understand in that way. Documentaries about bitcoin create simple introduction to bitcoin. There are a lot in youtube too. I don't know but I think videos are a lot more helpful cause it helps you visualize technicalities, instead of struggling to read and be drown inside a thick textbook.
154  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: My taught of plagiarism, spamming and scam in forum. on: September 18, 2020, 07:40:09 PM
One of the reasons some users are prone to plagiarism is because almost all topics they've thought of is already written down before, they do research but found an article about it, and now they are already basing their topics on that article. One way to avoid this is always think of an angle that hasn't been tackle with the same topic or infuse your own experiences with it, do not copy word for word but create your own sentences tackling the topic in a different way, try to make it your own and be original. Always try to think that you will write better than that article. It's not bad to do research cause we all do it, it's a way to avoid plagiarism too, to double check if no one had already created something like that before. And if you wrote the same topic, it will be impossible that you got the same article word for word, there will always be a difference, you're just checking so you're aware on how you can make your article better, you have to have a certain new points about the topic cause if you don't have it, then you are just repeating the same article over and over.

When doing research, you just have to site your sources and try to avoid creating the same thing, you have to find another spot that hasn't been tackle before about the topic, and its not that hard to be original if you are really motivated to create one, you will be prone to plagiarism if your main goal is just to produce a topic and too lazy to think of a new one.
155  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is Bitcoin such a big risk? on: September 18, 2020, 07:35:05 PM
It is riskier in bitcoin of course, its because you'll lose a lot if you enter in the wrong time. Your fiat investments has a risk too but it will be safe in the bank, and you'll not lose it just because of a certain price drop. But just like what others say, higher risk, higher chance of earning. Bitcoin is a big risk but once you win, you'll earn a lot even in a single night. But of course it doesn't happen in weeks, you have to wait and be patient. And all investments has its risk, its just harder to trust bitcoin because of its high volatility.
156  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Should bitcoin be introduced into the educational sectors on: September 18, 2020, 07:24:09 PM
I think it will be best if it will be introduce to the students who are already inclined to such topic, I won't even recommend btc, I think the best way is to start with the blockchain technology, and of course bitcoin will be a part of it. Blockchain technoloy should really be introduced to students who are inclining to be involved in industries such as computer programming. It will also be important to start with teaching financial literacy to the students.

I may find it weird to teach bitcoin to random students, it feels like you are making them learn a thing that doesn't really interest them. So it's best if the students are enrolled in courses who are in this industry. They will have to learn it either way.
157  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Bitcoin society on: September 18, 2020, 07:11:51 PM
I think the quality of Bitcoin society will always continue to be better than ever. Yes, there are still people who think Bitcoin is just an investment tool etc. . But in time, the number of this kind of people will be much less than now.

Not only that, a lot worse— A LOT of people still think that bitcoin is a scam and/or a ponzi scheme even if they didn't spend a single minute in actually trying to dig deeper into it. That one fact itself is huge enough of a proof that it isn't "too late" to get into bitcoin.

Agree, it's really hard to avoid such accusations cause there are really a lot of people creating scams all around the social media. They are taking advantage of what bitcoin can offer in a bad way. This is creating a certain image to those people who doesn't have any idea what it is. I've watch footage where the grab driver told his passenger that he is talking to a scammer, by that time, he already converted his money into bitcoin and send it to the caller. He thought the person he is talking to is a legit person from a credit card company, so he lost his money and the scammer use bitcoin to escape. Its true that its a red flag already if a credit card company asks for a payment in bitcoin right? So other people already thinks of red flag when its bitcoin. It has this image of being used in that kind of scams, cause its hard to trace.

The challenge is how can we inform others about this but not make them think bitcoin is scam in general.
158  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: btc future on: September 18, 2020, 06:58:24 PM
so what is the future of btc ?

likely goverment will shout down this like  e-gold and liberty resrve?  is btc end up like this? goverment cant shut down btc but they can ban exchangers.
and can ban all the exchangers as its not legit and still grey area.

I don't think it will come to the point of shutting it down, they can't really do it you know, maybe some government will try to make it illegal or some will create laws for their people.
Well in my country, I think it will stay the same, government is not really that interested so bitcoin doesn't exist for them. And if in the future btc will create a certain name or the price got a certain recognition once again, it will be haven for the government officials too, and if they create a law for it, it will benefit them as a btc owner as well. So I think it will not come to the point of shutting it down.
159  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: VALORANT Betting on: September 13, 2020, 06:47:56 PM
~snip
I watched valorant gameplay on Youtube live as well and it looks like combination of other existing games with better gaming experience.Probably it could be one of the major game on esport games but in my opinion mobile games will attract more users than PC games nowadays because game specs getting increased so the requirement as well whereas smartphones are getting cheaper and everyone starts to hold high end devices in 2020.
This might be true, Mobile games today are really good and some people preffer playing mobile games because of the lack of access on a PC. There is so much factors why some people are attracted on mobile games over PC games. Some big games are converted into mobile games like PUBG and COD that is reigning on mobile game platforms. This might happen into valorant if the developers want it to happen but as of now, PC gaming is their focus. People love competitiveness and valorant have it, No wonder if valorant became a mainstream game for everyone who love FPS.

This game will really hit big in the coming years, I've been playing dota 2 and lol. But I am never addicted to fps games. My aim is not really good and I can't really enjoy fps, but then I tried to play this one and got really addicted to it. I like how the gameplays work. Different characters and skills is the bomb here, I can find and do something valuable for the team cause I ain't good in shooting. I can't really rely on my aiming skills only, so the skills and the different chacters here treally makes the game really entertaining for me.
160  Economy / Economics / Re: Remote Working and Inequality on: September 13, 2020, 06:33:21 PM
I'm a freelance writer from the asia, we are already working for companies abroad even before the lockdown, same with VA jobs, video editing jobs etc. [...] Here in my country, only a few can manage to work from home too, this is another case, they don't have the resources such as laptop, a silent and safe space, and a personal room. I have a friend who decides going to work during this time even he can work from home cause he can't stand the heat at his own house, he got a big family, and the doesn't own an internet connection.

Thanks for this. It is interesting to get opinions from around the world. I do hope that remote working will create more opportunities both within countries and between countries. As you indicate though, simply saying that a job can be performed from anywhere doesn't magically confer equal opportunities around the globe. Many people in certain countries are hampered by poor working conditions and lack of vital equipment such as laptops, and also poor infrastructure, most pertinently unreliable or slow internet connection. So the move towards more remote-working won't magically solve inequality of opportunity, but I do believe and hope that it will at least go some way towards improving job opportunities in poorer countries as well as in poorer regions within rich countries.

Yup, I wish that it will go that way too. It will still provide opportunities for others. Maybe employers or companies can do something with that problems as well, they can provide laptops, or an internet connection allowance for their employees who can't afford one. I've heard there are companies that is doing it already. I just hope more companies will take care of their employees, specially those employees that are really far from their office.
