How exactly is this connected to mooncoin?

Last time that 4chan started talking and discussing moon, the price rose from 2 satoshi to 5 satoshi (from wednesday/thursday till sunday). Then volume reached 600 BTC on bleu and it went from 5 to 10 satoshi (from sunday to wednesday). Volumes were so high that nova couldn't handle the traffic (site was crashing a lot). But bleu was rock stable. Smiley

It was a crazy rollercoaster.

c) a date set before something great or new is announced (for example: before a bigger update). This brings anticipation and excitement to the markets and drives the prices up.
d) (moon owners optional): removal of big sell walls when the traffic volume is low.

Hi all,

I've managed to get back on top of things, after doing some freelance work for a while.
Everyone is quite keen for an update on things, so here we go:

Mooncoin 0.13 release is very stable.

Total resident memory usage under 75mb (whilst syncing chain).
Time from launching Mooncoin to being ready to use, in the case of a sync'd chain, has been halved (minimum).

Standard sync time from scratch to current blockheight is 34 minutes.
Due partially to 'headers first' functionality seen in late model codebases, but mainly optimized PoW validation during synchronization.

Extensive testing with the new Dual KGW3 difficulty retargetting algorithm. Probably the best i've worked with so far, especially the BitSend timeout feature (this will gradually drop the difficulty over time if a block has not been found in x minutes).

After a lot of testing; i'm not quite happy with the new custom PoW algorithm and it will be tweaked over the next few days, to ensure that: a GPU miner is not possible, botnets do not become an issue and also to guarantee protection against double-spend attacks. Recently HTML5 suffered a 'catastrophic' doublespend at Bleutrade, and I do not wish to ever see this occur with Mooncoin.

I've also decided that Moonlite will be a plug-in module, rather than in-wallet; meaning that the 0.13 release can be done earlier, and that development can be done on each independently, rather than one holding the other up.

I'd like to see the fork to the new algo/codebase before block 1,200,000; but this is up to the community to discuss.

Let me take this message appart and how I see the goodies.

1. Total resident memory usage under 75mb (whilst syncing chain). -> Very important to keep memory low if you want the mobile future (https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B7Vx1OvzrLa3Y0R0X1BZbUpicGc/view).

2. Time from launching Mooncoin to being ready to use, in the case of a sync'd chain, has been halved (minimum). -> UX (user experience) will just get better. (http://www.information-age.com/business-user-experience-how-good-ux-directly-impacts-company-performance-123460956/)

3. Standard sync time from scratch to current blockheight is 34 minutes. -> Do I even have to explain? Some people drink coffee longer. Smiley

4.
Extensive testing with the new Dual KGW3 difficulty retargetting algorithm. Probably the best i've worked with so far, especially the BitSend timeout feature (this will gradually drop the difficulty over time if a block has not been found in x minutes). -> mining is at the core of coins. Changes in difficulty must be dynamic, adaptive and responsive. Every upgrade in this direction brings stability to mining community.

5. After a lot of testing; i'm not quite happy with the new custom PoW algorithm and it will be tweaked over the next few days, to ensure that: a GPU miner is not possible, botnets do not become an issue and also to guarantee protection against double-spend attacks. -> just scroll to my upper post why testing is important and why it takes time.

6. Recently HTML5 suffered a 'catastrophic' doublespend at Bleutrade, and I do not wish to ever see this occur with Mooncoin. -> HTML5 is rising like a phoenix from ashes on multiple exchanges right now. Even though they had the "near dead" experience. Why? Because they have a bright future in technology. Now, Moon didn't have a "near dead" experiance. More, we have a dev who is dedicating itself to never let that happen on his watch. And moon has (and it will have) a tone of technology to offer (http://ftreporter.com/cryptocurrency-news-the-future-of-mooncoin/). So even more chance to be glorious coin it deserves to be.

7. I've also decided that Moonlite will be a plug-in module, rather than in-wallet; meaning that the 0.13 release can be done earlier, and that development can be done on each independently, rather than one holding the other up. -> 0.13 release comes soon. Moonlite will take longer. But I for one can wait for good things.

8.
I'd like to see the fork to the new algo/codebase before block 1,200,000; but this is up to the community to discuss. -> Lets discuss.

See the bigger picture of what good is here and what is yet to come. Don't be panicked by few small dumps of 1 or 2 BTC's on exchanges.

Moon had a 600+ BTC daily volume few weeks ago on bleutrade (https://bleutrade.com/exchange/MOON/BTC). If asian exchanges become reality, this can be a (sub)hourly volume. Cheesy

Its just been a week from devs update post. He wrote many things that have yet to be completed. And this things take time.

Why?

Because anyone that ever programmed anything more then "Hello world", knows, not just how important the writting of the code is, but also the testing of the code is (and how much cognitive and mental efforts go into it). And even then you cannot ever be totaly sure of absence of errors (Testing shows the presence, not the absence of bugs. Dijkstra (1969)).

More testing, less chance of errors. And to write tests, and think of all the possible scenarios which can break the code, the time is just something you need.

So when the moon reaches the asian exchanges and when all the new technology is out and the hype finally starts, the last thing we need, is serious bugs in moon algorithms.

P.S.: interesting article for moon people who have a lot of time and are impatient while waiting for launch: https://www.fastcompany.com/28121/they-write-right-stuff .

Otherwise communication is always good for progress. As long as the communication is not hindered by too much personal (non-useful) noise.

A crowdfunding page for our developer barrysty1e (James) has been created!

Please show your support for his past, current and continued work on Mooncoin by
donating here: https://www.youcaring.com/barrystylejames-884047

Maybe donations in MoonCoin could be made as well?

Just like for https://www.mooncoin.eco/ or for future scouts who are adopting moon as their official cryptocurrency.

Also, don't forget that a week from now, the moon is starring in the forbes magazine.

I totally agree.

I guess people have short memory and they already forgot the power of MoonCoin on the markets. Few short weeks ago moon had a daily (yes daily!) volume on bleutrade as high as 600 BTC. I even saw a woman/guy buy 10.7 BTC worth of moon at 10 satoshi.

Now sell away moon non-believers.

Not everyone needs a new lambo (or how the trollbox sayings go?). Well but I do.  Grin

Great job on https://www.mooncoin.eco/. Donated something the second I saw the site.

We believe in you!

Long time moon fan (mined first coins on the 25.1.2014; also bought few million moon on cryptsy and traded a bit - luckily transfered them to wallet before cryptsy went "kaboom"; and hold them till now), but first post here.

Now the only question is if it will go to 100 or to 200 satoshi by the end of the year. Cheesy
