2  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Jack Only Have Bitcoin on: February 12, 2019, 07:55:18 PM
This is not not new, Jack Dorsey is known as a supporter or advocate of Bitcoin and recently he's been consistently saying good things about it. But I'm just wondering, what if Bitcoin started a bull run again and he made huge profit from it, would he still be saying this things about Bitcoin or he will be just like other influenced people that used their popularity and spread good things about Bitcoin (which is a good thing lol) to earn huge profit from cryptocurrency then started saying bad things about it after earning millions of dollars from it and benefit from it, then started to buy again when investors got scared of FUD they spread. I would like to see an influenced person that really believes on the technology not just another one that wants to make money from it.
3  Economy / Speculation / Re: Does Roger Ver control the Bitcoin price? on: February 12, 2019, 06:00:55 PM
About 2 months ago Roger Ver spoke about the split of Bitcoin Cash and BSV.
Since then Bitcoin's price dropped from $6,500 to the $3,000 area.

Now he made a statement about supporting Bitcoin etc. etc. - and now we see the Bitcoin price is touching $3,600 hovering even towards $3,700.

So I would like to ask - does Roger Ver control the Bitcoin price?
If not - how come every time he says something extraordinary the Bitcoin price changes drastically?

Bitcoin is supposed to be free of any control but it seems like a few people have more control over it than others ... which is a huge drawback of Bitcoin in that case.

What do you guys think?

What statement are saying? No one can control the price of Bitcoin because it is a decentralized cryptocurrency. Any statement by an influenced person can affect investors to sell their coins by spreading FUD but they cannot control what should be the price of Bitcoin in the market. About the price reaching $3600-$3700, there are lots of reasons for that to happen, remember that this is just a small rise in price and it happened a lot of times before. And there's no way to find out all the reason of the price increase.
4  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What happens to your tokens when you're gone one day? on: February 12, 2019, 12:06:52 PM
We will never know when death will occur in our life, and as a cryptocurrency investor that is the only one that has an access to our wallet we should have make plans for our love ones be able to recover it and use it for their future. In my case, I trust my family with my private key and also thought them how to use it to recover my cryptocurrencies in case bad things happened to me. But if you don't want trust anyone and can afford to have a safe deposit box or own safe vault, then you can make a copy of your private key and list the steps on how to recover your coins, in case no one in your family knows how to use it, then put it on your safe deposit box.
5  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Are there still opportunities for ICO? on: February 12, 2019, 11:23:02 AM
At present there are still many new ICOs emerging, but are they still reliable? What I see now is that there are many ICO coins that are not registered in the market even though the ICO has been successful in sales. Yes, I see very bad market conditions for ICO coin registration on the market, but is that the only reason?
Of course there are still investment opportunities on ICOs, there are still lots of ideas that can be done with the help of cryptocurrency, but the thing is there are lots of ICOs that are failing to achieve what they want to implement with a lot of reasons, such as they didn't get enough funds from investors so they cannot afford to do what is listed on their roadmap or the company is just a shitty scam that really doesn't have a plans to register it on any exchange even they've reached the soft cap. It is just hard to find a start up crypto company that is really dedicated and really want to make a change but I'm sure that there will still be new ideas on how to improve something with blockchain technology.
6  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Transferring bitcoins and fees on: February 12, 2019, 09:19:36 AM
This is funny, why do you want to keep doing that? Will this not amount to wastage of your funds since they still belong to you, or just an effort from you without any value been added!
I've fractions of coins in multiple addresses so I was thinking to "put" them all into one single address, and now it seems that will cause the fee problem
Bitcoin transaction fees should not be a problem right now. If you are willing to wait for slower confirmation, you can set the transaction fee to low priority, note that this can only apply if this is not an exchange wallet, because some exchanges have fix transaction fees when withdrawing your funds, so if multiple wallets that you have is from an exchange then fees will be a problem. Anyway, low priority fees will not take long since there are no congestion on Bitcoin's network like before. If you are using a segwit address it will be more cheaper and faster.
7  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: This guy says crypto ruined his life but he spent it on a high risk lifestyle on: February 12, 2019, 08:26:30 AM
Don't know if this is a true story or just another fake stories to gain attention from that forum, but I will not believe any stories if there's no proof that it really happened. Anyway if this is a legit experience from one of those people that became millionaire in cryptocurrency, then why is it that he's saying that cryptocurrency ruined his life? If he is the one that makes decisions on where to spend all of his earnings and not saving it for his future. I mean it is not bad to enjoy what you have earned from investing in cryptocurrency but being addicted to something and having an expensive lifestyle is not crypto's problem, it's your personal issues. So he should only blame himself.
8  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Ethereum back in number 2 on: February 11, 2019, 10:02:08 AM
Market capitalization is meaningless, even if Ripple managed to overtake Ethereum again in the near future, it doesn't mean that Ripple is more successful than other cryptocurrencies below it. You have to know that the reason why Ripple's market cap is too big even it has lower trading volume than other cryptpcurrency's trading volume is because Ripple has billions of circulating supply. And the formula of computing the market cap is circulating supply times the current price (supply*price=marketcap). So for me market cap is not the only basis of which cryptocurrencies are doing good and has more demands. Will not wonder if XRP will overtake Bitcoin in terms of market cap in the future after they release all of its maximum supply but that would be meaningless.
9  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: People Can Now Buy Movie Tickets Using Bitcoin In Brazil on: February 11, 2019, 09:05:27 AM
People Can Now Buy Movie Tickets Using Bitcoin In Brazil
Buying movie tickets in Brazil just got a whole lot easier through Bitcoin payment systems established by Cine Multi.

Brazil initially showed signs of interest in Bitcoin and the blockchain technology last in 2017 when Brazilian Hotel Chain Vert Hotéis started accepting Bitcoins as payment for their services. This was then followed by Brazil's usage of the Ethereum blockchain to keep track and monitor the political expression of Brazilian citizens.

Not the first one to do it but still a great news, proving that even the price went down drastically, the adoption from people and businesses are still not going to stop. But like other companies and businesses that already have done it before, I wonder how long they can put this payment method, because most that we have seen from before already stopped accepting Bitcoin payments because of volatility. Another thing is, I wonder how many people are willing to use their Bitcoins to pay for a services or product, etc. because if there are none, this adoption will be useless. A lot of people surely don't want to use their cryptocurrencies to pay for something, because they only want earn profit from it.
10  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How many BTC is in circulation? on: February 10, 2019, 08:31:03 PM
From Coinmarketcap, there are 17,530,775 BTC available in circulation. But what is the actual amount excluding the lost BTC? How much BTC have been lost until now? Is there any reported/proofed list of lost BTC amount/addresses?
There's no way to figure out how many Bitcoins are still in circulation and how many are lost or stuck on an address that are non accessible anymore. In this article https://www.ccn.com/6-million-bitcoin-is-lost-or-stolen-should-the-real-value-of-btc-higher it says that there are 4 million lost and 2 million stolen Bitcoins but I doubt that this is accurate because there's no possible way to to accurately know the amount of Bitcoins that are stuck forever, and not all lost and stolen Bitcoin are being reported on news or being featured on articles. Also we cannot conclude that Bitcoins are lost if it hasn't been moved from an address to another for a very long time.
11  Local / Others (Pilipinas) / Re: pano ba malalaman if scam or legit ang bagong ann! on: February 10, 2019, 02:54:32 PM
hello mga kabayan !!
pano ba malalaman pag scam or legit ang isang project 🤔
Lalo nayung mga new btt ann-
12  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Tether vs True USD? on: February 10, 2019, 11:29:15 AM
Hello everyone, I'd like to know which of these two options is best to freeze my cryptos, which of these two recommend me? Based on your experiences, what is the best? thanks in advance  Cheesy
It depends on you, but if what is more secured for me, I will choose to use usd or fiat to stop my cryptocurrencies from losing value in a bearish market, though I have been using tether for trading in some cases. If you choose it to stop your cryptocurrency from losing value and use exchange or online wallets to store it then you have to rely on exchanges the security of your coins which is of course very risky especially if you have plans to have your funds in tether for a long time. But of course you can secure it by your own. So for me, for short term tether and fiat if you don't actively trading cryptocurrencies or waiting for good timing to enter the market again.
13  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Everyone agrees that bitcoin rise will help the all crypto currencies to rise? on: February 10, 2019, 08:31:07 AM
From yesterday the price of bitcoin got increased upto $400 due to the speculation of ETF approval by SEC which made all the other crypto currencies to bump with the same level of bitcoin so which shows that if bitcoin prices recover all the crypto currencies will be able to recover.

Do you agree that?
We can't just say it already that ETF is the reason why the price went up a bit this past days, since this kind of price movement in cryptocurrency market is happening without any good news, it might be but there are lots of possible reasons. And I have to disagree with your statement that whenever Bitcoin price starts to recover or go up, altcoins will follow. We might see this happen frequently but that will not be always the same scenario, at the past there are scenarios that Bitcoin price goes up but prices of most altcoins goes down, this is because there are times that people are selling their altcoins to buy Bitcoin whenever there is a continues increase in price.
14  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Ukraine - man arrested for stealing bitcoins and altcoins on: February 10, 2019, 07:50:24 AM
Source (in Ukrainian): http://mvs.gov.ua/ua/news/18175_Kiberpoliciya_vikrila_cholovika_u_vikradenni_elektronnih_koshtiv_z_kriptogamanciv.htm

My short summary:

The suspect worked in some unnamed crypto exchange based in Britain as tech support worker. He was targeting accounts of inactive users without 2FA installed, he was changing or adding recovery emails to those accounts, which allowed him to reset passwords and steal all user balance. The police estimates that he stole 720,000 UAH this way (~26,000 USD). The suspect was spending stolen money on gambling.

This should be yet another reminder to never store coins online for long term, and always use strong 2FA on your account and your email.
I agree that 2FA should be always enabled by users of exchanges this will add another security of your funds but enabling 2FA doesn't mean your cryptocurrencies are already safe, if the exchange you are using got hacked or planned an exit scam your funds can still be stolen, that is why never use exchanges for storing big amount of cryptocurrencies even the exchange is well known, but I'm just curious what exchanges are those he worked for. I don't want to click on the link of your source so I made my own research but can't found any similar to this. Anyway, good thing that this man gets caught already because it is possible that he will continue to do that.
15  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: hesitant about investing in Bitcoin. on: February 09, 2019, 10:43:37 AM
Best thing to do before investing is try to know more important information about Bitcoin, look for different sources as there are lots of websites that will lead you to wrong/fake information. Just want to ask you this, Can you take the risk of investing on a highly volatile asset? If not then it will just give you headache whenever price goes down and what's worst is it can lead you to selling it with lower price, so if you can't take the risk then do not invest. Do you know how to properly secure your Bitcoin? If not then you will probably the next victim of those hackers and scammers, so don't rush and know how to do it properly. And lastly, the technology of Bitcoin is great and of course we are hopping for the success of it but we don't know the what will be the future of Bitcoin so don't expect that you can make guaranteed profit in short and long term, if you are confident that it will have a great future then invest. Don't ask random people because they will just act that they know but the truth is no one really knows even Satoshi Nakamoto doesn't know.
16  Local / Pamilihan / Re: Coins.ph Official Thread on: February 09, 2019, 09:24:47 AM
Tanong lang po sa mga nagcacashin dyan, ano po pinaka mura na fees kapag mag cash in at ano ang pinakamabilis base on your experience? Pa share naman po salamat

Cash in. Ako nag cacash in lang ako thru 7/11. Di ko sure kung sya yung pinaka mura basta ang alam ko sya yung pinakamabilis pagdating sa pag credit ng cash in mo. Pag cashout naman para maka mura is yung LBC naman. After mo mag process ng mga cash in or cash out mag magtetext na agad sayo wala pang 1-5 mins.

17  Economy / Speculation / Re: new bullish run on: February 09, 2019, 06:09:42 AM
right now we are having a bull run in the crypto market. Let's hope it won't be of short duration.
It is still too early to say that we are having a bull run with just small amount of increase in price, we have seen this type of movement in price many times before and it only happens for short period of time, then started to go down again. I also haven't seen any reason for a bull run to happen since there's not much of a good news that might affect the price of Bitcoin to dramatically increase, though it doesn't always need to have a good news to have a bull run. Personally, I think that this is just the same as we have seen from the past that eventually will stop on a specific price then will start to go down again, but who knows.
18  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin = Nerd money or not? on: February 08, 2019, 09:44:11 AM
I recently watched the movie Goosebumps 2 with my kids and Bitcoin was once again mentioned briefly in this movie. The one boy mentioned Bitcoin and the other boy called it Nerd money.  Roll Eyes <My kids turned to me and said, Are you a nerd?>

So it got me thinking, why would people label Bitcoin as Nerd money, when people use electronic payment options like PayPal every day? What feature about Bitcoin gives people this impression about Bitcoin?

The first thing that comes to mind is the technical IT knowledge that people need to understand the concept about this technology and also it's origin amongst very highly skilled programmers and developers in the IT industry.

I am definitely not a nerd, but I am more than willing to carry that label, if it means that Bitcoin should be part of my skill and knowledge set in this world.  Grin

Bitcoin Nerds will rule this world! <Bill Gates is 100% proof of that>
I also have watched that movie last year and have seen some people on the internet refer cryptocurrency (not only Bitcoin) as nerd money. I think some people refer Bitcoin as a "Nerd Money" because it was developed by a computer programmer and they think that the technology behind this (blockchain) and terms that are being used is hard to understand that only computer nerds can only understand and maybe because it is a currency/asset that is in form of digital. But people will surely stop saying that cryptocurrency is a nerd money when it started to be adopted by more people and businesses.
19  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Progressing adoption on: February 08, 2019, 08:58:26 AM
Lately, I have not been hearing much about Bitcoin, other than media mentioning that the value is decreasing. In addition, the transaction volume processed by payment gateways is also decreasing. I feel that adoption has come close to a standstill. What is your opinion about this?
I think we should look at benefits of Bitcoin for merchants, to increase the active circulation. For example, bitcoin is a cheaper alternative to debit- and creditcards as merchants have to pay less interchange fees. Therefore we should contribute as a community by helping merchants to implement this system in their store. Merchants could possibly attract customers by giving discounts for paying with Bitcoin. What is your idea for progressing adoption of Bitcoin?
It is true that trading volume of Bitcoin is very low compared way back 1-2 years ago but it doesn't mean that adoption will stop here. Its just a matter of time and people will have a confidence of entering the market again. Good idea about merchants but we all know that a lot of merchants, especially the big ones are still not ready to adopt it and use it in their service, and it is because of the price is highly volatile. We don't have to force the mass adoption to take place, it will just happen one day when people realizes how Bitcoin can improve their businesses and the benefits of using it especially that people right now are buying goods more frequently thru online.
20  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Are we not abusing decentralization? on: February 08, 2019, 06:15:43 AM
Decentralization is one of the greatest dreams of Satoshi looking at the how the blockchain technology and its immutable distributed ledger has been designed. Well it saddens my heart that the greed of men has led to the abusing of this freedom and liberty that Satoshi wanted us to have in the financial industry. Look at the way people are being scammed and robbed in broad day light just because crypto is embedded in anonymity and decentralization. I think we've all had it to the peak, how about we have some level of regulation with the activities in the crypto industry. Share your thoughts commrades.
Everything has its own drawbacks because there are no perfect systems, and there will always be people that will abuse it for their own benefits, in this case hackers and scammers are abusing the decentralized nature of Bitcoin so they can be almost impossible to be traced but there will be no activities like this if people will not let it happen. The reason why people are being victimized by this is because there are people that are not knowledgeable enough on how they can secure their Bitcoins, while some are being scammed or hacked because they are careless on where to put their Bitcoins, thinking that 3rd party wallet providers are safe to store their Bitcoins in long term. And even with good regulations this kinds of illegal activities will still exist.
