381  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Cryptopia Rescue - warning Cryptopia liquidation - user information leaked on: December 09, 2020, 12:16:59 PM
Some users report they've received an e-mail of the Cryptopia liquidators, a days or two ago.

Based on the reactions in this thread, it looks as if this e-mail is legit. I cannot confirm this personally, since I've never been a Cryptopia user.
382  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Cryptopia on: December 09, 2020, 12:10:25 PM
CRYPTOPIA LIQUIDATION IMPORTANT INFO

As some of you might know, I've been following the liquidation process closely. The invitation e-mail you've received from the liquidators is legit. You can also check the official website, the liquidators are using it as their communication medium.

I've also posted a warning in the Scam Accusation thread, about a month ago: some personal information of Cryptopia users has been given by mistake to a lobby group. This means they might also have your data and try to contact you. There's no certainty that this lobby group has bad intentions, however be warned. If I understand well, this is however not the case in the e-mail OP's talking about, which comes directly from the liquidators.

Finally, you can find my reports on the (very interesting) liquidation process on this thread, which I'm updating on a regular basis.

The next liquidator's report is expected to be released in a few days.

Good luck to everyone who has lost his coins. I hope you can recover as much coins as possible, and hopefully all of it.

Just check my threads, the situation is looking relatively well (considering, of course, the seriousness of the situation following the hack).

In this article I would like to touch upon
In this article I would like to touch upon
In this article I would like to touch upon

I cannot think of how one could show the "intent of passing work off as one's own" any more than an opening sentence like this.

I could, though.

For instance, by not posting any sources. His post is more than just the first phrase. The fact that the link is there among other links, or the fact that other people have thought this post was original (therefore Merited it), are not relevant. The link is there completely in the open (maybe surrounded by other links, but it's there), which is probably enough to at least create enough "reasonable" doubt about the good or bad intentions of the poster. At least, that's what I think, but we are not the judges in here, the mods are and it's up to them to decide.

That being said, I do think you're playing with fire, Ratimov. You're a respected, high-Merited member of this forum, but your "I would like to" phrase would probably not have passed the jury, had you been a low-ranked newbie shitposter.

Also, you shouldn't set every advice in this thread aside as if they were only negative comments from "clowntrolls". There's enough signs that enough people have been misled about the way you formulated your opening phrase and the style of your article. If that happens once, it's not your fault. But if you'd continue to post articles in the same way, without taking into account some of these warnings above, it could raise questions about your intentions after all.

My two cents, and just a friendly suggestion to formulate your stuff more carefully.

Peace.

That reminds me. Do we have any female Merit beggars on this forum?

Keeping in mind the way some people on these boards go crazy for a single Merit, I can't help but wonder what they would be willing to do for a single satoshi.
385  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Giving merit to newbies for good replies on: December 06, 2020, 11:44:52 PM
As noble as you're idea may be - and I really do believe it is -, it's probably not the best one. I've seen a lot of newbies recently who've gotten Merits for a few posts here and there, where the Meriter hadn't really looked any deeper in the newbie's post history. As soon as these guys reach Jr. or Member level, they join a campaign, at which point they start flooding the forum with spam. I don't have to tell you that many of them are here for one reason only: bounties.

I'd warmly recommend you to do at least a minimal quick check of the poster's history to make sure it's not a complete shitposting spammer who had one lucky shot. Otherwise, you might be unwillingly sponsoring a (future) spammer.

Just my 2 cents. Once again, I think your idea is noble, and you're completely free to do whatever you want to with your well-deserved sMerits.
386  Other / Meta / Re: Merit Source - Plagiarist on: December 06, 2020, 10:28:56 PM
Without source and without quote brackets, it is plagiarism.

With source and without quote brackets: it is not a plagiarism.
Without source and with quote brackets: it is surely not a plagiarism.

You're quoting the "plagiarism and cultural differences" thread and I'd kindly suggest to read the thread all the way to the end. The fact that the OP has been merited, doesn't mean it's correct. No intent, no offence. The cultural aspect is completely irrelevant. edit: so is the quote/bracket remark, but at least you'll avoid any discussion when you use sources-quotes-brackets.

Contrary to popular belief, the plagiarism rule and application thereof is very lenient. It's usually fine as long as moderators can see that the user didn't intend to pass the text as their own.

^As usual, suchmoon summarizes the whole thing perfectly. I'd however would like to add that the application is imho completely just and correct.

There's simply so many plagiarism claims which are completely unjustified, that it seems as if the mods are lenient. They're not lenient, they're right. (or, in some cases, it's impossible to prove)

I'm not quite sure why this is so difficult to understand for some, and I'm really amazed about how this has been repeated over and over, yet some people refuse to understand (or accept) this very simple rule.
387  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: December 06, 2020, 06:49:44 PM
Got plenty of time,
To make my poetry shine,
In haikus that rhyme.

A rich man once said,
"Make money while you're in bed."
Bitcoin's what he meant.

Some bought it real cheap,
Others bought the fucking dip,
And HeDL strong through shit.

It saddened me though,
That mindrust SoDL like a ho...
"Don't know nuttin' bro?"

My advice to you,
Be helpful and nice and cool.
mindrust was a fool.

See, in these here parts,
We chew gum and kick bad ass,
While observing charts.

In closing I'd say,
Thank you El Dude, thank you Jay.
Have a great Sunday!

#7haikusthatrhyme

Not sure what you are on,
But damn it must be strong,
So won't you drop me some,
To share when walls are gone.

Pure art, mate. It makes me emotional. (edit: #nohomo) You change "ass" in "arse" and it'll rhyme even more Cool
388  Other / Meta / Re: 🏆 Bitcointalk Community Awards [Voting 2020] on: December 06, 2020, 02:29:37 PM
I just join this forum few days ago. But I am giving a lot of time here and I want to vote according to my knowledge.

(...)
11. Antihero.      ^ Lauda
(...)

Great to see you know who Lauda is, even though you joined only a few days ago. And for someone who claims to spend "a lot of time here", it's very strange you haven't read the OP and haven't noticed that voting is only for Full Members and higher.

Oh and this, of course, is plagiarism of the purest kind:

1. Best Moderator               >  mrep
(etc...)

I'll probably add these two to the "fail of the year" category.

Am I really the only one who noticed this ^^^ school example of plagiarism??

It's an exact copy of Kojektea's post in the same thread and even the error in mprep's name "mrep" has been copied:

Bedoel je het aloude adagio: "Buy the rumour, sell the news"?

In 2017 vloog de prijs all the way naar $20.000 enkel en alleen dankzij FOMO.

Probably I'm the one who's being too stupid to understand this genius, because someone has actually Merited this bullshit (thus really begging to be investigated for reports).

I agree. Still, keep in mind that there are quite a lot of cases on this forum when people have merited a post only because they've got a good laugh off it.

Check. I'll have a good laugh, too, when I see those reported posts being removed.

(...) eerste inhoudelijk goede artikel in de Nederlandse media.....ooit. (...)

https://www.tijd.be/markten-live/homepage/de-comeback-van-de-cowboymunt/10269847.html

397  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: December 05, 2020, 11:26:03 AM
Regulation leads to legitimacy of crypto so the more that banks and law makers become involved, the better it is for all of us.

I love the smell of a shit quote in the morning.

Wassup WO? Nice support been building up around 19K for several days now.

How about making a tradition of having an ATH party every weekend? 20k soon? I'm out of champagne tho!
398  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Stablecoins get more regulated on: December 03, 2020, 01:07:06 PM
(...) now US lawmakers require to obtain bank charters (...)

BTW: US lawmakers do not require anything now, contrarily to what you posted. Atm the bill has only been introduced.

Don't want to be a pain in the ass, but if you want to write about legal subjects, make sure you write accurately and precisely.
399  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Stablecoins get more regulated on: December 03, 2020, 01:00:56 PM
Let's see how long it takes before they (try to) regulate ALL cryptocoins. Let's say these regulation attempts have actually been going on for a while now... Which is also a sign of the fact that some governments suddenly are starting to take crypto seriously.

But since you've opened the thread, OP, why don't you share your opinion with us first?
400  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Which is better between keeping assets in exchange or personal wallet on: December 03, 2020, 12:47:00 PM
As some others mentioned above, respected exchanges probably have insurance for theft (hacking). Also, in case of bankruptcy, these coins always remain yours (if, hopefully,  they weren't stolen).

I've written several extensive threads on this subject and I think its importance will only grow bigger in the future, f.i. about the bankruptcy of Cryptopia: Cryptopia Judge: "1. Crypto is property 2. Even w/o keys, crypto remains yours"

So far the good news.

Remember, in case of bankruptcy, it will take a very long time before you get your coins back. If you have been speculating with shitcoins, there's a very high probability these shitcoins in the meantime will have become useless.

Check out the thread above for some more ideas on positive and negative sides of exchange vs. private wallet, flexibility vs. security etc.

In any case, if you're only planning to hodl and not to speculate or to trade, the safest place to keep your coins is in an offline paper wallet.
