1  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / US Updating Credit and Debit Cards w/ EMV Chips. Win for Bitcoin on: May 13, 2014, 04:56:59 AM
Both issuers and merchants have 18 months to completely update credit/debit cards and card readers with EMV chip technology. Because of this, fraudsters will most likely turn from skimming magstripe information to stealing information online, often referred to as "card not preset" fraud. If this in fact occurs, online merchants will see their fraud loss skyrocket. Which only means that the bitcoin community should really push for merchant adoption, focusing on bitcoin's solution to fraud and chargebacks.

Here is a great article which goes over some of the numbers behind our country's fraud loss and what EMV update means to e-commerce.

Where is the WC development team? Where is the mogonz0? WC what the next step in the development plan?

We are here, but it is the weekend and we all have jobs and social lives. This is a community supported coin now and new infrastructure is being out into place... to have a coin with a transparent leadership team this cannot happen overnight. In the same way, the price will not rise overnight.

Those who want out of Whitecoin are free to sell. We'll see you on the other side Smiley

i hope Mogonz0 and dev day posting instructions WC's progress and plans, because the market there is no confidence, need confidence to everybody.
Thank you

Spot on, the community needs to spark the interest of those with money.
3  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Bitcoin ATMs to California on: February 19, 2014, 07:21:43 AM
Yes, that is in fact a part of the KYC.
So if I were to go to San Francisco to use this machine, what would I have to do to get a login? Would I need to meet with a banker first and show my ID, etc?

Absolutely not. The entire process is done at the machine.

I got a question on your video: What's that "Login" and "biometric authentication"? Is that part of the KYC for your Money Transmission License?

Yes, that is in fact a part of the KYC.

Fellow Bitcoin Enthusiasts,

We are California Cryptocoin and we are a California LLC setting up a network of Robocoin ATM kiosks around California! Our goal, with your help, is to bring liquidity and legitimacy to a rapidly expanding Bitcoin market by bringing these ATMs to you! We are very close to our launch, but we need help with the last step before we can open for business. That being said, this is where we stand:

  • We have purchased 2 Robocoin Kiosks – They are ready to go and will be placed in Los Angeles and/or San Francisco. We will provide updates of where our machines will be specifically located once leasing has been confirmed.
  • We have applied for Money Transmission License -- This is a rigorous vetting process from the Department of Business Oversight which requires us to have a net worth of over $250k along with many other requirements.
  • We have additional licensing in order to preempt any Bitcoin regulatory stance the US government may take.
  • We have scraped together $150k in startup capital from friends and family.

What this means is that we are roughly $50k short of having a $250k (this includes asset price of machines) net worth as a company. This is the minimum for us to obtain the correct licenses and it is the last obstacle we need to get over in order to launch. So we need YOUR HELP!

We have set up a crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo to try and raise the last $50k. Please check out our page at http://igg.me/at/CAcryptocoin/x/5513568 and help do your part in contributing to the Bitcoin community. We have some pretty cool perks in return for you support and we even have the option to donate in Bitcoin!

Anyways, we want to thank you for all of your support and for hearing us out. The future for Bitcoin is bright.

Cheers,
The California Cryptocoin Team

The Bitcoin ATM Has a Dirty Secret: It Needs a Chaperone

When Mitchell Demeter and Jackson Warren opened the world’s first bitcoin ATM at a coffee shop in Vancouver, it was an instant success. People actually lined up to use the machine, which processed about $1 million in digital currency transactions over its first month.

But one day in November, a few weeks after launching the ATM, Demeter noticed something peculiar as he perused the machine’s transaction data at his office, across town from the coffee shop. At one point, the machine had voided 15 transactions in a row, for no obvious reason. So he drove down to the cafe, and as he walked through the front door, he immediately saw the problem.

A man was sitting next to the machine, at one of the cafe’s wooden tables, and he was holding a sign that read: “Don’t Pay Transaction Fees.” This very human entrepreneur, you see, was undercutting the world’s first bitcoin ATM. As people walked in to use the machine — which was charging a 7 percent transaction fee — he offered to exchange their money, by hand, at a lower rate.

That man is a vulture! What lack of imagination
7  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Litecoin ASIC on: January 30, 2014, 07:39:35 AM
Obviously there are other competitors, and there always will be. However, we have means to scale up production speed to compensate for lost time. Again, if anyone is interested please PM me.

Development is still development and there is nothing you can do to speed that up. So you are still looking at 6 months out even if you have scale. Sure you'll pump out a lot of units that first batch but it will still take you 6 months.

And the CBA is more than likely going to not be in your favor at that point because first you are late to the party and second difficulty will be very high at the point when you start development. So the potential for getting buyers will be low as they will gravitate to know and proven sellers.

What scale is your fabricator at? Seems to me the way you are talking you really don't have a clue about chip engineering. If you have access to an ASIC chip fabricator then you already have access to engineers that can design those chips. Your fabricator should already have partners that can do it if they don't already have engineers in house.

Something is fishy here.

To honestly answer your question, you are correct in that I have no experience with chip engineering. This lack of understanding is the reason for my post. If I were a skilled chip engineer in addition to my bizdev skills, I wouldn't be here! I simply have access to a manufacturing plant and capital, so I'm seeking consultation in the arena of Scrypt and ASIC expertise.

Greetings my Litecoin enthusiasts. I am posting this to reach out to the altcoin community and begin discussion on the emergence of Litecoin ASIC rigs.

I am an entrepreneur that has been involved in the Bitcoin community for some time and my team and I are looking to expand our business operations. Currently, I have become involved in an ASIC manufacturing plant and we're looking to take on clients to start prototyping and hopefully down the line, begin production of a Litecoin ASIC.

If you have any expertise/knowledge in the production of such ASIC and FPGA machines, please PM me. Our team has the capital and the means to push such a product on a massive scale. We're looking to find the right engineer/partner and begin developing a working product.

We look forward to your responses!

Thanksgiving day, while many of us were eating turkey, The United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) published JPMorgan Chase’s (Chase) patent application 20130317984, “Method and system for processing internet payments using the electronic funds transfer network.”

I feel like if anything, this verifies Bitcoins importance. If one of the worlds largest banks is blatantly trying to compete and improve, then obviously Bitcoin is doing something right....

Bobby Lee CEO of BTC-China spoke on China's stance on BTC a few moments ago on CNBC. He was also grilled on what BTC is and why it would have value to anyone.

It really saddened me to see someone so high up the food chain of a major exchange seem to know so little about Bitcoin benefits. I really hope that this doesn't hurt the community or price in any way.

For those of you who watched the short interview I'd like to know your thoughts on his responses.

i didn't , but from what you say it doesn't sound good at all

It was not. He could not directly answer a lot of the questions that were presented to him. He kept dodging. Honestly, it seemed like he was a total space cadet. Hopefully, he was just nervous by being on TV.

Litecoin offers MUCH faster transaction times.

No, it doesn't.  Faster block times do not equate to faster confirmations.  To decide if a transaction is "confirmed," you need to analyze the difficulty of a double spend attack at each block height.  Faster blocks are accomplished by having lower difficulty - so you need more blocks to get an equivalent chance of protection against double spend.

Haha sure I understand what you're saying, but if you were to send a litecoin to me right this instant, I would receive it faster than if you were to send me a bitcoin. I was more making a point to the OP

What?  I have no idea what you are talking about.  Transactions are near instantaneous in both Bitcoin and Litecoin.  Why would you receive a Litecoin transaction faster than Bitcoin?

Well the first obvious reason is 6 confirmations as opposed to 10. I would also encourage you to wipe your wallet.dat file (save it obviously) and then reopen both bitcoin and litecoin wallet. See which data comes through quicker.

18  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin vs Litecoin on: December 08, 2013, 01:32:13 AM
Considering the similarities between the two and the fact LTC offers little "improvements" (which many would dispute are improvements at all), does anyone seriously consider Litecoin having a place in the world? We all hear that Litecoin is silver to Bitcoin's gold--and while this may sound plausible, it really makes no sense. Litecoin acceptance in the marketplace is dismal; it's only real hope is that one of the major (other than BTC-e) exchangers accept it. But even then, why would anyone use LTC over BTC for transactions?

Are we supposed to assume that, in the future, people will use their silver (Litecoins) for small purchases and Bitcoin for larger transactions?

LTC appears to offer very little (if anything) to the marketplace. Its sole benefit appears to be pump and dump. LTC was going up in value and will undoubtedly grow in value over time; but beyond speculation, there is little benefit to this coin in the marketplace.

Competition in cryptocurrenies are a good thing (let the market determine the best coin) but LTC is not that coin.

Who here agrees or disagrees and why?

Your answer seems extremely biased. IF (notice the IF) you are assuming that cryptos are to be used in everyday transactoins, then Litecoin makes more logical sense than Bitcoin. Litecoin offers MUCH faster transaction times. That alone is a huge plus for any merchant who is considering accepting crypto as payment. No one wants to wait 20 minutes for a transaction to go through, regardless of what fee they avoid. In addition, because both Bitcoin and Litecoin are deflationary, the cost of services and commodities will only continue to drop in comparison to the price of the coin. Since there can only be 21 million BTC in existence ever, it seems pretty ridiculous that a merchant would except payment of BTC. Looking forward, the deflation on the coin would be too great to the point where no one is going to pay .000002 for a cup of coffee. This is why the 4x greater market cap of Litecoin makes more sense regarding your argument of cryptos as an everyday currency. There are a lot of people in the world  Shocked

However, in my own personal opinion, if you are comparing Bitcoin and Litecoin to gold and silver then you should not expect it to behave as an everyday transactional currency. Like gold or silver, the intrinsic value comes from utility in the form of being able to move HUGE amounts of money quickly and easily with miniscule fees attached. While that may not seem like that big of a utility function, it is. Break out of the mindset of person to person and start thinking business to business. The faster a transaction can happen, the faster life can go on. It's all about progression.

There are plenty of other reasons why Litecoin could be considered more useful, but in reality they compliment each other. Also remember that Litecoin is half the age of Bitcoin.
19  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Automated Trading Bot (Litecoin) on: December 08, 2013, 12:57:56 AM
I posted this in the Litecoin forums, but I've gotten no responses so far. Thought I'd try my luck with everyone here.

I'm looking to code a trading bot or learn how to place automated orders within metatrader 4/ another program like it. I've been using butter-bot for trades with Bitcoin for a while and I'm trying to find something similar with Litecoin. If anyone can point me in the right direction that would be great!

The image below is an example of what I'm looking for. I'd like automated trades to be triggered on BTC-e with the 2 EMAs cross. In the example I'm using a 5/8 input and when the 5 (red line) crosses UNDER the 8 (white line) I would like it to automatically sell. And when the 5 crosses OVER the 8 then i'd like it to buy.

20  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Why is Bitcoin beneficial to mankind? on: December 06, 2013, 03:39:15 AM
I would assume everyone on this forum has a solid understanding regarding the benefits of a cryptocurrency to the financial world and the advancement of mankind. There are some obvious reasons for why using such a technology is practical for our evolving world and over the past 4 years there have been some great explanations as to the applications and uses of why Bitcoin and its successors could positively change the world economy.

What I'd love is to start a conversation on this thread as to WHY do you personally think Bitcoin is so beneficial and in what instances have you seen it's implementation help or fix what is wrong with our financial system today? Like I said I realize there is plenty out there on the manner and I myself have a great understanding of it's greatness, but let's consolidate.

What do YOU think?
