what Gavin's XT proposal does is not only automate out financiers, banksters, politicians, & corrupt gvts, but also DEVS.

esp a few core devs who think they know better.

and that, imo, is a worthy goal.

heads up.

the anti Gavin guys have taken to a new strategy on Reddit to push upvoted primary comments DOWN.  that's by sub-commenting negatively and heavily in the top most upvoted comment so ppl read their negative shit first near the top.  phantomcircuit (Strateman from Blockstream) and BitFast (Greenaddress skeptic) are filling up Gavin's thread with this strategy.

Reddit is already heavily astroturfed in favor of Gavin's strategy. Which if does include pushing other devs out is deeply wrong. I was on the fence before but I cannot support Gavin if he is trying to become the king of bitcoin. Its fundamentally anti-bitcoin and everything we stand for. What does this all come from? The aggressive need to scale so we can bubble again? Since when has this community become so greedy.

you miss the whole pt of what i said.

Gavin is ALSO trying to automate out HIMSELF.

if you've observed Gavin carefully ever since he was given the keys by Satoshi, he has always been much more optimistic and hands off with Bitcoin than all the other core devs who just obsess all day long about what's wrong with Bitcoin and what they should be doing about it.  Gavin, being the understanding leader that he is, simply let those guys go off and tinker at the edges for the longest time.  now, when the block size limit continues to be hit, he HAS to step up and take charge to prevent repeated DoS'ing of the network.  in the meantime, what was entirely unpredictable was a faction of core dev going off and creating their own private for profit company which actually depends on deprecating/choking Bitcoin Core.

his vision with XT, which i entirely agree with, is to get it to a point where it upgrades itself over time to keep up with internet capacity.  he doesn't want this shitfest debate coming up again.  that's not good news for devs who gotta dev.

this is a worthy goal.

Given the keys by Satoshi? Even you are blindly repeating that? Satoshi only gave him the alert keys, the metaphorical keys you speak of do not exist. Gavin took advantage of Satoshi's disappearance by repeating that same story over and over again of Satoshi putting his email on the website like it means he is Satoshi's heir. There is no such position in bitcoin anyways.

What you portray as 'going off to tinker' and 'obsessing' is creating solutions and being cautious about modifying what is like changing the function of a car engine while the car is moving. This hyperbole betrays the weakness of your position, only the weak side resorts to such in a discussion. The network has been DoSed, but not significantly and in any capacity to impact more than most users. Deprecating/choking bitcoin core? How? By moving wealth (that probably wasn't already there due to an inadequacy) from something bitcoin can't do well or can't do at all into a sidechain? The only choking is of possible future financial wealth, which shows stake in the game.

3  Economy / Speculation / Re: Analysis never ends on: January 13, 2015, 07:07:25 PM
I am waiting for one more down, but China seems to have gone to sleep, so the rest of the market waits for them to wake up and decide direction.
If there won't be one more down, this means it was truncated (locally), and since the volume wasn't IMO high enough for capitulation, it would
leave open the possibility of a larger order extension. So... bulls, pray that we go down one more time and that should be THE bottom.

Larger order extension?

I hope you feel better soon!

I was looking for older versions due to a bug in which I think the ticker always functions under exchange rather than trading on finex, only for rules. I can specify trading in the overall window, and trade through the buy and sell buttons, however if I make a rule, even if it says trading I think it operates (or doesn't work at all) under exchange. Also once you edit the rule it reverts to exchange in the view of a rules group.

Unfortunately I don't know how to compile source code, if someone could point me to a quick and relatively easy tutorial or something, much appreciate.

Again, get well soon! Smiley

Where can I find old versions of the software?
7  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Anti-Vaccination Movement - bringing diseases back to life on: June 21, 2014, 12:34:20 AM
It's natural selection, stupid people don't get vaccinated, stupid people die off more often, everybody wins.  Cheesy
It doesn't work this way.

Forget about voting, nobody  except the medical staff can have any right to vote here. Vaccination should be forced for everybody who don't have any specific contraindications, because collective immunity allows us to protect unvaccinated people from getting infection.

It's not a place for the "democracy", because it's about survival. Only massive and forced vaccination was able to exterminate such deseases as polio and variola. The same is correct for measles, rubella and many other infections.

Stupid people must be vaccinated, otherwise some smart people can die too. The only who benefits in this situation is the virus, due to possibility of natural selection for vaccination-resistant strains. If viral genome is unstable then partial vaccination of society is potentially able to create vaccination-resistant strain.

This is correct - we are just putting it off for the short term with only those who wish being vaccinated, while future generations will be likely punished for our collective stupidity.

Of course the problem is that we might not be able to practically, as people will always resist it seems. And ideally, it is wrong to put secret drugs and substances in people without their consent. If they were open source I would feel better about mandatory vaccinations.

It seems as if the only path that we will go down is one of forming stronger viruses and diseases... Is there a realistic solution other than improving our capabilities as we go along (in the societal view)?

Perhaps one could tell the level of technical competence and capability a coin and it's developers have by the number of spam and bot accounts whales use to create the visage of a failing community and push the value downwards. Now that I think upon it that would be an interesting study...
I myself believe (nearly) all useful information is contained within the price
9  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: FeatherCoin 0.8.5 - Scrypt based cryptocoin on: May 08, 2014, 03:27:47 AM
Something's going on.  All my blocks being rejected with:

2014-05-07 06:02:50 ERROR: AcceptBlock() : rejected by synchronized checkpoint
2014-05-07 06:02:50 ERROR: ProcessBlock() : AcceptBlock FAILED
2014-05-07 06:02:56 Added 1 addresses from 54.214.242.184: 1037 tried, 13641 new

My height matches the block explorer and there have been no blocks found on the network in the past 2 hours.

I'm getting similar errors. Are the devs aware of whats going on?
10  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Alphacoin - the new innovative alt coin! | Version 1.1 released, please update! on: May 01, 2014, 02:15:36 AM
Shopping for coins , and looking for coins that have stayed below radar but still active as a dev and community , is there still something going on?

I see Alphacoin as a representative index of all Altcoins; in bullish Altcoin times, Alphacoin goes up, in bearish Alphacoin declines. Shows general strength of the Altcoin market
11  Economy / Speculation / Re: The People's Republic of China has successfully pumped and dumped Bitcoin on: April 29, 2014, 05:34:00 AM
Heh the foundation probably is controlling the price look who has relationships with the biggest exchange BTC China

BTCChina has very little volume these days, but there are those that think the foundation are basically scammers... They talked with Mark every week, possibly knew more about Gox... But the most likely is the constant fud from China.

Recalling one of my old charts, Gox released bad news in a similar manner to China (when it matters per TA). While I don't think the foundation was involved, I'm very suspicious of Gox...

12  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][MAX] MaxCoin - Alive and Kickin' on: April 27, 2014, 12:27:31 AM
I need some help testing a new social network for crypto enthusiasts called CoinSocial.net. The website just went online yesterday and is now ready for testing.

My idea was to build a social network free of advertising with a robust back-end and premium feature set. This will eventually require a tiny annual fee per user to become sustainable.

One thing I've observed is how fragmented the cryptocurrency community has become. So this website will welcome the entire altcoin population and serve as a hub for sharing ideas, tech support, and efficient networking.

To help attract beta testers I'm offering a 99% MaxCoin discount that will extend through the entire month of May 2014. So basically you get a free one-year membership (cost will be around 6 cents) for helping test the system if you pay in MAX.

Please understand that this is just the second day of beta testing so expect a few bugs. Here's the link: https://www.coinsocial.net

Thank you and I hope to see a few of you there! :-)

Cool, looks interesting. Signed up

Its abundantly clear that the PBOC and Mtgox before them coordinate news with impactful moments - anyone with an ounce of TA knowledge can see this.

On another interesting note, this is the final nail in the coffin to the EMH (Efficient Market Hypothesis), as markets are made up of irrational people and rational people manipulating the irrational. This has been a grand experiment of the Pavlovian effects of events on the market-mind. Markets are both prone to patterns and averse to patterns - To the degree the market knows this is manipulation, does that make the manipulation stronger or weaker?

For someone who is good at TA, selling when the tides turn and China confirming the turning is always fun to watch. TA truly leads FA.
Please correct me if I am wrong.  So in really general terms, you are saying that when basic TA suggests bullish, PBOC will release negative news.  Using more advanced TA (shorter term?) gives you a chance to sell before the full impact of the news is reflected in price?

Its a little more complicated usually, in that when the price gets too close to the point of breaking out of a trend, and presumably when certain people have fully dumped, the news comes along. Usually its a window of time that such news will come out, and the bearish signal is usually already there. So perhaps yes the when the more basic TA suggests bullish, this could happen. However better TA will see this coming and broadcast a bearish signal before the event.

I thought I would add my two cents after making & tweeting some similar long term charts:

(1/2) I have some interesting charts for you guys: imgur.com/a/J2NZD

Both are the same. All are super powerful trendlines.

(2/2) Remember, crowd psych and manipulation will make you believe the trends are over. They aren't, until fully confirmed (closed candles)

Ultimately, I think these trendlines are of supreme importance, and it is difficult to know which are superior (the linear or log). However simply remembering it takes a long time and much capital to exit them, is your greatest fall back.

Too short a timeframe chosen resulting in less probable graphs, in my opinion.
It looks like a carbon copy of TERAs.

The timeframe is valid for the timeframe, so if the week candle closes distinctively outside the trendline the breakout is likely. On an hour timeframe, this would not be accurate. On dailys, this would be relatively accurate. Yes it is similar to TERA's, however offers both log and linear in one picture and thus shows more possible points to come to if the trends aren't broken before. Simply more data Smiley

Idiots still support this crap? Max Keiser admitted to this being a pump and dump scheme already...guess there are just enough suckers in the world to keep this coin barely alive huh.

Yep... Although I suppose it will be pumped some time in the future. Of course its going to have to come down a TON in price for the pumpers to scoop at worth while rates...
17  Economy / Speculation / Re: SecondMarket Bitcoin Investment Trust Observer on: April 26, 2014, 07:31:07 PM

SecondMarket could make even more money if they had a private source that would sell them bitcoins below market price. That difference in price would be their extra profit.

They do.

How do we know this?

Funny how 4 months later pretty much everyone thinks China is doing some degree of manipulation
20  Economy / Speculation / Re: The People's Republic of China has successfully pumped and dumped Bitcoin on: December 17, 2013, 02:53:14 AM
I don't shy away from conspiracy like theories since Snowden. Anyways, in a troubled country like China with many poor, kept ignorant, and bathed in pollution, a way to lift money without a connection to government may be desirable.

The reality of the world is that it is a complex place, and things happen for complex reasons. Any attempt to put phenomena into a nutshell, be it an 'official version of events' or a 'conspiracy theory' is going to have shortfalls.

However, anyone with any kind of political noose can recognise that there are 'tendencies' in the world and often a simplified hypothesis can be useful in allowing the mind to get a handle on such a 'tendency'.

I found your opening post to offer a useful hypothesis.

If this was shady businessmen pumping and dumping a penny stock, the fraud squad would be on the case.

You are definitely right. I'm being too aggressive, things are probably more complicated, and the Chinese gov is probably not exactly what I make it out to be. My main goal is to provoke thought Smiley
