1  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How to create a bitcoin wallet ? on: September 21, 2017, 08:18:27 AM
Creating a paper wallet

Here are 10 steps needed to create a paper wallet:

1. To generate a new bitcoin address, open BitAddress.org in your browser (or LiteAddress.org for litecoin).
2 itAddress (but not LiteAddress) will ask you to create some randomness by either randomly typing characters into the form or moving your cursor around.
3.You will be presented with your public and private keys and their respective QR codes. Do not scan these.
4.Click the ‘Paper wallet’ tab.
5.Select the number of addresses to generate.
6.If you don’t wish to keep the bitcoin artwork, click the ‘Hide art?’ button.
7.Click the ‘Generate’ button to create new wallets.
8.Once the wallets are generated, click the ‘Print’ button to make a hard copy.
9. Your browser will ask you to select the printer you wish to use. In the case of Google Chrome, you may also save the page as a PDF file.
10. Make a note of the public addresses, or scan the public address QR code in your bitcoin (or litecoin) app and start depositing funds.
2  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: How do you think OmiseGO? on: September 21, 2017, 08:16:55 AM
So seriously... if Governments / Banks come guns blazing to shutdown Bitcoin, could the decentralized network still operate if they were able to shutdown the big ASIC farms that may be obvious targets? Would shutting down the major ASIC operations slow down the processing power of the transaction network enough to grind it to a halt?
3  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: How do you think OmiseGO? on: September 21, 2017, 08:13:50 AM
At this moment in Thailand. Most of bank rush to release their mobile application with wallet to benefit from national standardize QR-code.
Kbank is major player now but SCB in the news on link above try to catch up with them. At the end it is the game of getting market share of mobile banking.
However, if Thai people travel to Japan, Korea or Europe. Omise can gain advantage fro customer to use the same wallet of Thai bank to pay merchant at other country without exchange fiat.
Or Omise can partnering with anyone to do Cash In/Out as they plan to exchange any unused Thai Baht coin and note to any prefer fiat right to tourist wallet. I think this could gain a lot of tourist attraction. You know right how many people visit Thailand per year?
4  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin as in Freedom on: September 21, 2017, 08:11:08 AM
WOW! I have been listening to Econtalk religiously for nearly a decade now. I never imagined that something I helped create would be talked about on one of my favorite shows.
If you haven't read it already, "The Price of Everything" is worth a read.
I too can date my awareness of Bitcoin to at least the 2011 Econtalk episode. I, like Russ, figured that it couldn't work.
I am still kicking myself for missing Hernando de Soto's lecture in North Carolina back in 2004. My friends only told me about it after they got back from the speech.
I did get to meet Norman Borlaug though, which was probably a better deal. Meeting Michael Munger was pretty neat too.
Jim, if you are reading this, the biggest thing that is happening related to Bitcoin south of the border I in my opinion right now is the Central Bank of Barbados issuing Central Bank money as Colored Coins. A sovereign nation is now relying on the Bitcoin blockchain to conduct monetary operations and settle between banks.
5  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Get BCH free on: September 21, 2017, 08:08:12 AM

Get your 'Bitcoin Cash' (BCH)
Transfer your Bitcoin to a wallet that YOU own, that means you own the private key. Still have your coins on an online wallet or exchange? This is a guide to make your own paper wallet: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1RDU2XgEtG0yXW1rHOX1_E7WDST0vFTkdvnD1DdCTghw/edit?usp=sharing

Acces your new 'Bitcoin Cash' so you can send them.

a)Fork happens on 2017-08-01 12:20 p.m. UTC. You still have your BTC on your wallet but now also a equal hidden amount of BCH.
b) Split your BTC from the hidden BCH (to secure your BTC). Do this by making a new wallet (Wallet B) and sending your BTC from your original wallet (Wallet A) to this new wallet (wallet B).
c)Now your BTC and BCH are split you can safely send your new BCH without risking you messing up your BTC. Use your private key to recover your wallet (Wallet A) on BCH wallet software like: http://www.electroncash.org/
d)From wallet A now accessed with the BCH wallet software you can now send your BCH coins.

Trade for a profit before bitcoin cash is worth nothing and the chain dies.
Send your BCH to any exchange that trades Bitcoin cash (BCH, or some call it BCC)
The supporting exchanges are listed here: https://www.bitcoincash.org/
6  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin just an asset ? on: September 21, 2017, 08:04:43 AM
Ok, so he has two arguments for why it isn't a currency:
1) Value is too unstable
2) Processing is inconvenient
Response to 1) there are plenty of unstable currencies. They're still currencies. Instability is a negative, sure, but it isn't a disqualifier.
Response to 2) Bitcoins convenience lies in its obscurity, not in its processing time.
Note: I've never owned bitcoins and perhaps never will, but you can't just redefine what's a currency for a clickbait title. Currency = a widely used medium of exchange.
7  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Future of Blockchain? on: September 21, 2017, 08:03:28 AM
A distributive ledger supported by a multitude of corresponding banks can reduce counterparty risk, transaction times, and fees. A distributive ledger is shared by these banks so that they can use it as a replacement for rtgs (SWIFT, CHAPS) and for retail remittance. It uses the founding principles of the BTC blockchain but blocks are "premined" meaning algorithms come to a consensus instead of "paying" people to mine the blocks. This reduces the risk of having humans mine and is much more energy and time efficient. A distributive ledger applied correctly can ultimately help the bottom line for financial institutions. This is only one aspect of a distributive ledger. More similar tech is being built in insurance (smart contracts), exchanges, loans, repos, to name a few, ultimately in hopes to improve efficiency and security.
What do you know about the Internet? Do you understand how the Internet works? There are a lot of things out there that I don't understand but have revolutionized the world.
8  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoins Mining on: September 21, 2017, 08:01:47 AM
If you want the best chance of recouping your investment you have to host the miners where electricity is cheapest and that is China. Sinohash is reputable and will buy the S9 miners for you and host for $42 a month per miner. The catch is they became so popular there is now a ten miner minimum. If you have 16 grand to spend that is your best option. If you only have a few hundred dollars ViaBTC cloud mining is the only cloud mining option that is worth a damn.
9  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ripple wallet??? on: September 21, 2017, 07:59:21 AM
I didn't see XRP listed as a coin on that ledgerwallet link.. does it support it? Wondering because I have a trezor too but I don't think it yet supports XRP. Might have to get the ledger to store XRP if trezor cannot.

11  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Thread for little known altcoins with potential on: September 21, 2017, 07:55:25 AM
t does not matter which of the top 10 cryptos you invest in. They are all past their individual triple/quadruple digit percent boost. Instead any price hikes we see will be reflected on the other top 10. Not to say you won't make great returns, simply that when BTC goes up 2x, the other top 10 will do about the same.

If you're looking for significant returns (remember, comes with significant risk!) do research on the cryptos placed between #10 - #50. If you call it right you can add a couple zeros onto your initial investment.

On a side note, every $100 invested into ETH two years ago when I made that post you referenced would be worth over $25,000 today. But it doesn't matter, because in general the public has some severe misunderstandings on crypto in general. I usually get the following remarks when I pitch crypto:

- "Isn't that for drug/guns/illegal trading?"
- "Its too much work to buy, its not worth my time"
- "Crypto can't/won't work because of x/y/z and it will never yield gains as an investment. I should know because I'm a [title]-expert"
- "Isn't Bitcoin like penny stocks/online casinos?"
- "But you can lose all your money right? If I'm going to gamble it, I prefer to gamble at legitimate sources like lottery tickets or casinos"
- "I'd rather invest in reliable bluechip stocks like [namebrand co.]"

..So on so forth.

I've sat down dozens of individuals and explained to them the potential of crypto. Only three have I ever been able to convince to buy in, they are currently looking at 10,000% returns. (Yes, there are four zeros there.) The rest, well, they're making a few cents in their savings accounts I guess. The one thing the three who bought in have in common is that they're incredibly open minded. They don't stick to initial skepticism or defend their erroneous first impressions. So before you make your crypto pitch, make sure you're pitching to someone who has the capacity to be receptive to it. Always remember you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink.

As for me, I'm not too involved in crypto anymore. I like to check up on the trends and see if there's anything significant that catches my eye. I'm currently making about 6-8% annual returns on my investment through dividends as a reliable income to live off of. Anyway, always happy to share my experiences.
12  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin for Taxi on: September 21, 2017, 07:46:17 AM
When someone pays you 20 bucks do you check and re-check the banknote, call the federal reserve and ask what features to look for and what they should look like on a genuine banknote? Same applies for Bitcoin: to carry a massive 51% double spend attack you need so much computational power, so much money that doing it for a taxi ride is ridiculous (and not worthwhile). P.S. did you know that DIY checking a banknote (as most people do) is pointless if you do not know exactly what a genuine banknote should look like (features, contrast, texture, ink, holograms, watermarks etc..)?
13  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What is a good investment you can do with BTC? on: September 21, 2017, 07:43:46 AM
Don't invest more than you can afford to loose. Bitcoin is still high risk.
The main danger is not the loss of value of bitcoin but rather the risks of loosing your bitcoin. Make certain you know how you are going to store your bitcoins and the difference between hot and cold storage.
Lots of scenarios as you are now your own bank. Could you recover the bitcoins if your house burnt down, if you died in an accident will the bitcoins be lost forever?
