621  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Creating own altcoin, error loading block database on: December 15, 2013, 01:08:57 AM
I am creating my own altcoin on windows.  I've compiled everything, done the first build, found the hash and nonce of the genesis block as well as the merkel root, inserted them into the code, and recompiled.  When I try to run mycoind.exe, the command prompt says "Error loading block database.  Do you want to rebuild the block database now?"

I think it may be because I may have not mined the genesis block, but I'm not sure.

Does anyone out on the forums know what is causing this problem?  I will provide the code to anyone who can help me.

Thanks!

Countdown clock - all it needs is a spreadsheet link, could probably just be added to smeagols dvc price site:
Using an old start point for calc: In A1 enter '12/05/2013  21:50:00' (date formatted, this is GMT for ref if want to be specific). In A2 enter current DVC Block. In A3 (also date formatted as above) type =A1+((120000-89150)/((A2-89150)/(NOW()-A1))). Right now that gives 31/12/2013 10:24 GMT

I can't run the daemon since I don't have a VPS, so if I did do it I would have to grab the data from somewhere else.

1000 bets per second?   Shocked

That must be putting some serious load on the servers.

Perhaps requiring a captcha to start rolling may help?

Payout is on block 120000, and we're at block 117814 now. Any estimate date on when we'll reach block 120000? I also read the dvc will be paid out over multiple days (a month?), so will it be from when we reach block  120000 and then a month, or will it be from block 120000 untill round 31 ?

10 minutes per block, times 2186 remaining, equal 21860 minutes, divided by 60 = 364 hours, 20 minutes, divided by 24 equals about 15 days 3.5 hours.

So about 15 days 3.5 hours, and then payouts start, but the DVC will be paid out over multiple days.

A round countdown clock might be nice, if anyone could do that (ETA to end of round)

633  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Category Bug Fixed on: December 14, 2013, 01:50:53 AM
..
I had asked the same thing. Apparently we're supposed to be adding categories to the bottom of articles (like [[Category:CATNAME

All of my articles are categorized, though.

http://devtome.com/doku.php?id=wiki:user:smeagol

Thanks for pointing that out, I found the bug in devtome that was causing it. It was looking for [[Category: in the text, rather than [[category: in the lower case text, so all the links that were in the format:
[[category:

were not counted. I'll rerun the script now, if it completes the run before the receiver file is made, the new run will be used, otherwise it'll be the old run. Categorization was only 5% of the earnings multiplier this round because it is experimental.

Devtome ran again with the category bug fixed, so the final earnings and statistics are at:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=233997.msg3925723#msg3925723
https://raw.github.com/Unthinkingbit/charity/master/devtome_30.csv
https://raw.github.com/Unthinkingbit/charity/master/devtome_earnings_30.csv

Is there a script which generates a file with total earnings for marketing, writing, admin, and bounties?

There are some rough instructions in the Bitcoin source under /docs

Rough instructions, but not very detailed.

Is it good to compile on a VM?

Please place me first in line to purchase a Devcoin ATM!

If we could put them in big metropolitan areas they would garner lots of attention for DVC.

What's the cashout minimum?
There is none, but the fee is 0.0001. So, it must be over 0.0001.

Ha, I'm just doing martingale with the free satoshis.  I guess I'll probably lose it all before even reaching 0.001.
637  Economy / Digital goods / Re: [WTS] Microsoft Product Keys on: December 13, 2013, 11:30:03 PM
So, does that mean the guy can see our IP, etc.?
Not necessarily (although I don't know for sure) - but when Microsoft finds out, I'm pretty sure these keys will be disabled.

Me too having MSDN since 5 to 6 years, but never heard of Microsoft busting anyone for sharing MSDN keys.

All the keys can be activated from 5 to 10 times (depending upon the product). And the license activation number can be extended by talking to MSDN support. they extend the number till 10 more. By taking this into consideration, MSFT is no more interested in catching the scams.

Really?  So you could sell your keys?
638  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Compile a windows -qt or daemon on: December 13, 2013, 11:29:05 PM
get the allin1 package codeblocks/mingw.  its all 1 download installer with the codeblocks IDE and the mingw C/CPP compiler
Thanks. But that's for the daemon not Qt, right?

it should compile anything that you have the source code for, assuming the code was built for the compiler's architecture.
In other words, if the compiler is trying to spit out an .exe binary for windows, the source code must be for windows.

Coins are made to be for Windows, mac, and Linux, so what would happen?
639  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Devcoin ATM Bounty on: December 13, 2013, 11:25:50 PM
Since devcoin is centered around development do you think their will ever be a bounty for the creation of a devcoin atm? I really want to see an altcoin atm as I think it would do something great for bitcoin in the long run

I agree there should be a devcoin ATM. Since it involves hardware it would be a big project, so how about 96 shares? Any objection or should something be changed?

+1, big thumbs up.

EDIT: Maybe split into stages, a banknote reader and laptop could work as an atm but its a long way from that to a secure production quality unit.

To qualify for 96 shares I think it should be a production quality unit (anyone could combine a banknote reader and laptop otherwise - without actually creating a finished DVC ATM).

I also think it's awesome!

Maybe even more shares would.  The DVC animation took about 8 hours to put together from start to finish (gathering data, putting in the text) and was 48 shares.  The ATM will take much longer, I bet.

Would the ATM print out paper wallets, or would it send DVC to a wallet?  It's a good idea!
