501  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The Art of Exploiting vs the Bad Habit of Scamming on: July 13, 2020, 04:11:22 PM
1) Lets start with a simple example, a football match, which is offered by every bookmaker you can imagine. There is breaking news, that team A will miss a lot of their players due to a flu. Odds are dropping like crazy in all bookmakers, but there is one bookmaker that is slow and has bad software.
I don't see anything wrong here. This is more of a level of service issue than anything. Especially so if they are consistently lagging in updating, this would be a glaring issue they would have to blatantly ignore. There could be any number of reasons for it, and would be something I expect them as a business operator to rectify and/or adapt to. I say that s this would be glaringly obvious to them, and not some random secret issue that could go unnoticed.
2) By accident you discover that a bookmaker allows to parlay 1X2 and Asian Handicap market, which is of course a software issue. So you could parlay home win with AHC -0.5 for all kind of matches, which will give you good value odds. Is it ok to parlay these two dependant bets ?
I don't wager often, so I don't get the logistics behind this. My take is that you run it once, make sure there is an exploit and prove it. You then contact their team and explain and prove it to them. Beyond that you are taking a hidden exploit and turning it into a scam. Not many people would be able to take advantage of it and if you attempt to be stealthy this could carry on for a long term.
3) Is it ok to take advantage of this software issue in general ? For $20 ? For $500k ? (Leave aside the fact, that LAngel played with "cheated" money).
No. I place this in the same category as #2. Try it prove it and then contact support to make them aware of it. If you go beyond that and attempt to game it for yourself you are knowingly attempting to turn an exploit into a scam.
4) Lets say I have a trading bot (in betting or crypto exchange) and this bot goes wild due to misprogramming and I lose loads of money. Are all these users filling my orders scammers, when it's obvious that these prices are wrong ?
In trading that would be on you, you are trusting your software to make decisions for you. No one is tricking it with a series of commands or events to make it do something outside of designed operation.

I feel the moment you discover something that is hidden and use this to manipulate the odds in your favor you are acting unethically and in bad faith. It crosses some lines and I would expect casinos and bookmakers to refuse service to individuals who abuse these hidden exploits without reporting them.

You have a flagged and heavily limited account in a bookmaker. Early odds come out, player A vs player B, 1.80 - 2.00. You want to bet on player B, but with higher odds. So with your flagged account you bet on player A multiple times max stake (because of the limit, you can't stake a lot though). Odds move of course, and are maybe 1.60 - 2.40 then. That is when a friend of you with unflagged/unlimited account places max bet on that 2.40.
Into what kind of category would that fall ? Exploit ? Scam ? Market manipulation ?
This depends. Are you taking a share of your friends profits. If so I feel this is 2 individuals manipulating and attempting to scam a bookmaker. If your friend happened to place a bet after you mentioned something along the lines of wishing you had been able to get those odds, then that's them using information for their own gain - not having participated in getting the odds manipulated.

Personally if they aren't offering the odds you want and can't find them elsewhere the spot doesn't exist. Fabricating it through betting and exploiting that using a different account makes this unethical imo. It's really no differnt than you just having an alt account to circumvent their TOS.
502  Economy / Gambling / Re: #3 Bitcointalk Poker Series (0.05 BTC & BIG BTC Ticket sponsored by SwC Poker) on: July 13, 2020, 04:25:05 AM
Finished 10th this time. Had small chances to survive after losing to @Steamtyme with those damned 3 Queens. Smiley
Yeah just bad luck that I was defending BB and put in the call. GG, not much you can do there.
Quote
Steam then said in the chat that it didn't feel good, winning so much from someone you know. I know your feelings, bro. Felt the same earlier, when I knocked out @ivan.
But it's poker, it's just a game after all.
GG, everyone! Smiley
Yeah when I saw the Set of Queens I felt pretty gross. It was training for later as I had a few of these spots. The draws were good to me today.

too bad, i would have been in a dominant position if it went the other way. i got it in good every single time today, but i just never really ran good.
@Globb0 is now heads up with @Steamtyme. take him out @Globb0, dude has been sucking out all day! Tongue
Who little old me. Cool
It was a spot that's for sure, I knew you had an A and figured you were strong with the lead out. Didn't realize it was 2 pair strong. It was one of those I have to be good 1/3 of the time knowing it's the nut flush - didn't like seeing the 8 of clubs in your hand - and there wasn't much sense in waiting for a better spot than this. I think at that point with the pot size and what you had behind it gave me the right odds. That made it a fold or jam, at best I finally catch you bluffing me, or I get there.

Early on though I did get lucky hitting a few draws on the turn so I didn't have to sweat it out much. They usually happened in key spots to help me build back up or grab a chip advantage. There were some tough folds though. The hand you jammed into me and it was a T high board. I figured you must have had an overpair, or a set. I folded TJ.

GG everyone and congrats @Steamtyme!
Thanks, and GG. The final hand between you and Globbo came up so fast. What a roller coaster what was it a flopped J for you and a turn Q for Globbo.

Dang @Globb0 getting better and better finishing at 2nd . I notice that lately I have been doing really bad when there are only 7 or less players left on the table. I went completely out of my usual pattern and tend to goes all in like there is nothing to lose, silly gameplay from me indeed. Although it is safe to finish somewhat at rank 6 ~ or lower but it would be to get ITM
Congratulations @Steamtyme and Good Game everyone, see you next weekend  Tongue
Thanks. I'm sure you'll find your way back in the money at some point. You managed to grab my chips in a few spots, either bluffs or just getting there. Globbo was a monster in the final 10 and probably long before that with their stack.

@Globbo great heads up final. You were super aggressive and it was tough to find a spot or pull away, the all-ins were just to hard to call against. In the end I managed to get there with a flopped K high straight. I think I caught you on a bit of a hot streak with me check folding a few flops, so I checked this one back as well and called your jam. Congrats and looking forward to catching you at the tables again

I have to ask you had another one of those hands that I had a tough fold and cost me quite a few chips. I mentioned in chat about trying to remember it. It was a double paired board, I can't remember exactly what the runout was but I made trips on the turn with 8's I think and then the river paired the board again. You called my bet on the turn and then jammed the river. I had the bottom full-house and figured you had the top end.

No worries if you don't remember I can't seem to bring up my hand history to get the details. I forgot to grab screen caps in the moment.

GG everybody catch you all next week.
@CryCryptoCry
Please send the 1000 chips you got for the Independence Day Wildcard back to me until Wednesday the latest. My SwC handle is: EnterScreenN
Thanks for bringing this up, i don't want sound mean, but if he doesn't return the chips back to you (or maybe play next week) i'm going to tag him.
I suggest sending them a PM. They definitely need to return the chips. They're not mine but I don't think people should be accepting these gifts if they aren't able to play the next game.

Thanks for the raffle.
504  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Bitcointalk Poker Series format discussion - Let's keep them all in one place. on: July 12, 2020, 05:14:07 PM
I still think the lottery should just be for the entries, not extra for winning.
Also I cant talk this week it says I need 50 Krill, before it was 1.
Did something change in the settings?
Damn sorry Globbo. Yeah I just checked the SWC chat and they did increase it. Not sure why or why they didn't grandfather older accounts. You should inquire in the SWC thread, maybe they'll hook it up. If I could send you krill I would.
505  Economy / Gambling / Re: #3 Bitcointalk Poker Series (0.05 BTC & BIG BTC Ticket sponsored by SwC Poker) on: July 12, 2020, 05:07:50 PM
Good luck all. 17 registered so almost 2 full tables.

Welcome to an SWC reg joining us for the first time @kolloh

Should be a good time, not sure what happened to me at he start but I had to reload the App to take my seat

No problem on this as Im asking this question in general to the other swc tournaments as well, is there any way to check on who won the previous tournament? I mean all other existed tournaments and the winners  Smiley. I usually keep my window open even if I have been knocked out but for some reason last week I closed it
I'm noton the desktop client to double check what info you get but here was a response from SWC previously along the same vein

Tournament history is available when playing on the desktop client by selecting Hand History from the Game menu in the toolbar.

Hey thanks for the info. Unfortunately I'm shit when it comes to betting on sports and what not. So I'll stick with Poker where I at least have a snowballs chance in hell  Wink

Nice discussion and giveaway topics though, good luck

I am making my move! But I need chips to borrow.
Can anyone give me 1000 chips? I do not have access of my regular wallet for few days

Please confirm here so that I do not end up getting the chips from more than one person.
I can fire some out. I'm on my phone though, so I just need you to send me your username. Post here or PM me and I'll send the chips shortly
508  Economy / Gambling / Re: #3 Bitcointalk Poker Series (0.05 BTC & BIG BTC Ticket sponsored by SwC Poker) on: July 11, 2020, 09:57:59 PM
I am ready for tomorrow, even thou I will play from work! It will be a tricky to play on phone, but it will not be the first time! Smiley
Welcome to the dark side. Our employers would be so proud  Tongue

I'll be shipping chips and registering this evening, and barring any plant issues it should be a smooth afternoon. Fingers crossed we'll see 1 or 2 SWC regs there tomorrow. I've been chatting with a few and the interest seems to be growing but that only matters if they  show up and get sucked in.

Bounties galore can't wait here's to hoping I can pick one up. I've been playing a few bounty tournaments lately and they get so crazy. Love the idea of the mystery bounty should help keep peoples play somewhat standard.

The tournament is hosted by SWC and all relevant information for registering and buy-in is in the OP

General Information & Series Structure

The Bitcointalk Poker Series sponsored by SwC Poker can be joined by any interested poker player with a Bitcointalk account. If you don't have a Bitcointalk account yet, feel free to make one. We would be happy, if you engage in discussions about the series and/or Poker, but it's not mandatory. We welcome players of any skill level, any age, any gender, any colour. The tournaments will be played on Sundays 5PM GMT.

The series will feature 8 qualifier tournaments, a Grand Final, a Small Final, a lottery and hopefully lots of fun and suckouts. There is an internal points structure, where you accumulate points to qualify for the Grand Final. Every participation will also give you tickets to the lottery. If you are a regular player, you will automatically qualify for the Small Final.

We play Texas No Limit Hold'em, the starting stacks are 5,000 chips, blind levels are 10 minutes and there is no late registration available.

You might also want to join the Bitcointalk Poker Community Server on Discord: Join here.

The first two series:
Series #1
Series #2

Entry Fees & Passwords

The entry fee per tournament is 1,400 Chips or 0.0014 BTC.
1,000 chips you pay for registering for the tournaments directly at SwC.
400 chips you send to the SwC account "youcantwin" via P2P transfer. 200 of those chips go towards the prize pool for the Grand Final, the other 200 chips towards the lottery.

There are no entry fees for the Grand Final and the Small Final.

The tournaments are password protected, you will get the passwords via Personal Message (PM) in this forum, after you have sent the 400 chips per tournament to youcantwin. If you intend to join all 8 qualifier tournaments, it would be helpful, if you send all extra fees (3,200 chips) upfront.

@efialitis Sorry I missed you on Discord the other week. In the future it's easier to reach me through forum PM for anything. Feel free to reach out anytime.
509  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Bitcointalk Poker Series format discussion - Let's keep them all in one place. on: July 11, 2020, 09:49:51 PM
the small final isn't huge from an EV standpoint, less than a buy-in. i'm not too worried about it. tbh, i was fine with just requiring 1 qualifier and letting everyone play, vs barring the top 3 from the championship.
Yeah I'm definitely not looking at it from a prizepool perspective just a chance to participate and play. I am as active as I can possibly be in the series and I'm sure there are a few others who might actually want a shot at the prize that may not make 5 tourneys either.

Just a thought, as it was the only thing that sticks out to me with our current format.

510  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Bitcointalk Poker Series format discussion - Let's keep them all in one place. on: July 11, 2020, 04:27:04 PM
hey I forgot I wanted to bring this up when the series started. In the future for the small final I would like to see us lower the threshold to participating in 3 or 4 qualifiers to qualify for it.

Personally there will just be some games I can't make which can be up to half of the qualifiers depending on my work schedule. This can already negatively affect my chances of qualifying for the main, and feels sort of like a double whammy. Curious what others think about this. There could be a stipulation where at least one of the games needs to be the final 3 qualifiers if the worry is just about people joining early and stopping once they can't make the finale.

511  Economy / Gambling / Re: #3 Bitcointalk Poker Series (0.05 BTC & BIG BTC Ticket sponsored by SwC Poker) on: July 07, 2020, 07:12:57 AM
You have to play a few raked games. Best bet is to play some of their microstakes cash games. Doesn't take long to earn 1 krill. Good luck

Whew, yesterday was nutz! This win really kicked off an amazing day. One of the better poker days I have had in quite a while.
Here is the full rundown of my results in order of start time:
~snip~
Congrats man, great day at the tables. Can't remember I think I donated my stack to you in one of the doubles last Thursday. AQ open calling a jam from BB I think and you had KK lol. Stupid call on my part at thatpoint for the stack sizes and fact that i want that best finish across the 2 again, but I had been jammed into like 5X in a row by others and wasn't having it anymore lol

Hope to see everyone this coming weekend couldn't make it on Sunday my crossshift was an hour late or work and i slept til 2 hours past start time. Should be there this weekend, it'll be on mobile from the office lol. On the bright side we might be starting to attract more SWC regulars. Was just chatting with one who misread the start time but will be trying to make it next week, and another who seemed into the idea and has the link for this thread now.

Hey as others have pointed out I made a video to serve this purpose. It doesn't go into every minute detail of quoting and what not but is a good basis to get started. Iirc it also pointo you to this section which covers BBcode and certain button functions.
Help Tab

Apart from that there are written posts detailing some of the finer points of posting etiquette. Here is one I made [Tips] Posting technique It covers quoting in there as well.

I started and will probably continue more videos to simplify some things. The idea though was not to replace reading and learning from experience. Those are some of the most important and forgotten skills on this forum imo. good luck to you and other newbies on your journey.

Due to some uncertainty surrounding the continuation of our Poker provider’s offering we have decided to look for another product that can bring you an improved gameplay and more enjoyable experience. Until that time we will no longer support the existing poker tables we have on site.

ah, that explains things! i'm really hopeful this means they're actively looking to license a different poker software, or maybe operate a skin on an existing poker network. i've always been open about my disdain for SB's poker provider, coinpoker, with its poorly designed interface. they can find much better IMO. fingers crossed that we hear some news about this in the near future......
That is awesome news. Hopefully it has more to do with listening to the constructive criticism than, just some backdoor stuff between them and the provider. I am looking forward to seeing what they come back with as I would love to go back and play there again. Maybe they'll re-launch with a phat prize tournament. I had pretty much given up on playing there until now but will be looking forward to seeing their launch.
516  Economy / Gambling / Re: #3 Bitcointalk Poker Series (0.05 BTC & BIG BTC Ticket sponsored by SwC Poker) on: July 04, 2020, 08:44:38 PM
Wow that's an awesome set up for tomorrow. Efialitis is gonna be up against some splashy call downs I think, can't wait to see some screenshots of how those go down. Very generous of you, awesome way to spice things up again for everyone.

Not sure if I'll be in tomorrow, I am on nights and likely will sleep right past the start time. We'll see.

I am still surprised that we don't see more people from SWC they play loads of tournaments with a higher buy-in and a relatively similar prize pool, it might come down to no re-entries. I've noticed most if not all of their tournaments have re-buys available and quite a few have add-ons. These can get pricey but I often see multiple folks with 3 re-buys, and various others with 2 or 1.

Honestly it gets more interesting with others playing as well, but if we held steady at our current number I'd be happy enough. It's still a good time. It would be nice to see some of our past participants join in, or a few of the others from the forum that I am surprised haven't jumped in yet.

Either way good luck tomorrow if I don't make it in, and if I'm there I hope to collect all bounties and take all your chips . Muahahahahah

Oh no word on my Watford jersey either. I just assume I'll get a package in the mail in a month or so.
517  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Poker talk - Specifically Hold'em - Hands and or strategy on: July 04, 2020, 08:33:28 PM
But you don't want to analyze a hand based on hindsight. Sitting on table you only know your hands at the start, and eventually the flop, turn and river. All the good poker players have charts they play off. They have a range off cards, the fold, call, or raise with. All depending on the position, stack, etc. Especially when playing online your information on your opponents is very limited. It's better to play based on a fixed system, and after a while you will notice if there are any flaws in your strategy and you lose money.
This is true - albeit a little broad for where this thread has evolved to. Anyone studying now a days is essentially handed charts to begin their journey then the understanding of why and how they came to be. The Pro's are constantly adjusting them in small ways, based on reviewing their previous plays and spots to find any amount of edge they may be missing. I used my charts fairly religiously for a few months and then moved away from them, to play from memory and experience. I have plans to look into another course that follows a completely different vein of game theory but am holding off for one of 2 bankroll milestones.

Online you can actually wind up with a significant amount more information on an opponent there are free to use HUD's and some sies even have a built in HUD. This gives you information you would be hardpressed to figure out in your head live.

Experience is one of the best tool to make a strategy. It will also depend on your objectives for if one wishes to play safety or gamble hard and as the result it could mean a lot of losses or a a big chances of winning.
Aside from experience there is also one thing that could make one win in poker and that is when instinct is high or when luck is on your side. There are times like this for being lucky and always end up winning on cards being held.
However, there is no really best or good strategy to win poker except for being lucky. Poker players can assess wether they can win or not. So it is a hard thing to make poker as a means of living. It should not be that way how we look at gambling instead gambling should be a past time or to occupy oneself when gets bored.
Experience is a necessity for anything. You can read and study all you want but if it can't be applied irl at best you can teach theory. Instinct is just an extension of experience/study/and practice. Luck is a bitch, and can be replaced with the word variance, and it hits both sides.

I wanted to clear that up because most of what you have written is inaccurate. There are definitely good strategies when it comes to poker, to think otherwise is crazy. The best in the world and even marginally profitable players use strategies some more in depth than others. There are a lot of people in the world who make a living playing poker, for each of them there are thousands who don't. Most of those are fun players who want to pop in and out and just enjoy seeing where the cards lay.

For everything in the world there are different ways to look at things. There is nothing wrong with someone treating poker like a job, they just have to train and develop the skills required. On that same vein there is nothing wrong with someone who wants to sit down and click buttons online or spew chips at a table if that's what they find fun.

I haven't had much time to play or grab spots to bring to the thread lately, lots of work lately. I am hoping to grab a spot that bothers me quite a bit, in the meantime here is the jist of it.

Having second pair with a good kicker, when the top pair pairs on the board. I really don't like it at any point but more so when I get to the turn or river. I know this isn't ideal for format and hope to grab a spot when I'm off work. It's similar to a paired flop that make a pair with the odd card out.
518  Economy / Gambling / Re: #3 Bitcointalk Poker Series (0.05 BTC & BIG BTC Ticket sponsored by SwC Poker) on: June 29, 2020, 05:44:10 PM
tough break on that set over set hand, @Steamtyme. that gets me every time!
Yeah all I could do is laugh. I'm never not going broke in that spot. I took solace in the fact that I was behind from the start so it's easier to live with. Better than the night before where I got it in good 5X only to suffer some of the grossest beats ever.
AA flatting from HJ (2.5BB) , with 1 caller before me and BB jams (29 BB) Magic especially when I see 24 of diamonds. He runs out a straight Huh

Has the nerve to pretend he was just trying to get knocked out, and not just being a donk jamming assuming it would get through.

i'm out in 10th place, at least i made it past the points bubble, just barely.....
I saw you make your last stand. Not much you can do there.
heh thanks, 5 people left. Im in last now.
And that's me. Thanks everyone. Good luck
Good run buddy. Yeah FT situations need a bit of balance. Especially if you are chip leading, better to let the smaller stacks knock themselves out fighting for pay jumps and/or position and only getting into spots that are really good for you, position wise and strong hole cards. Then again on a really passive fold heavy table you can mix in there and steal blinds.

Either way congrats.
winner winner chicken dinner  Grin
gg everybody
snagged 2nd in the little btc but couldnt do anything right in the med or big btc. Dont think i got one playable hand in 2.5 hours in the big  Angry so frustrating. another fun poker-filled sunday!
Congrats on both. My Big BTC run was annoying, I had great playable hands early that fell flat and left me very short.

I hate pocket Aces. Every time I get them I lose, unless I go all-in right away. Yesterday was no different. I didn't want to go all-in in the beginning of the game, so I just raised a bit pre-flop, and was called by Goethe and SuckMyChips. Then I raised almost 10 BB after the flop, thought it would be enough for the villains to fold, but this was what happened:
Probably Goethe decided to bluff, and SuckMyChips ... well, I thought he had had pocket Js, 7s or 9s, so I folded. (I'm dying to know what he really had though. Smiley )
That's how I lost more than 20% of my chips in the very beginning (with pocket Aces!).
That's tough you might have been up against a flopped straight or yes a set, but tough to say with no 3-bet pre. I likely would have played the call, you might have been up against KK,QQ or even Top Top. Either way good run.

See everyone next week. This video will be a bit clunky for whatever reason at the 2.75 hour mark it stopped recording saying maximum length. I missed about 20 minuted I think, but got the end with a second recording. I'll get it up sometime this week.

I'll have to sit out for tonight as I have no access to wallet. Next week though I'll be coming in hot Smiley.

Good luck y'all!
You're not getting off that easy lol. Pm or something if you are stuck again, I'll help you out anytime. That goes for any regular if you can't reload your chips in time.
22 minutes left and we have 17 so far nice turnout but let's hoe for a few more, 2 full tables would be nice.
520  Economy / Gambling / Re: #3 Bitcointalk Poker Series (0.05 BTC & BIG BTC Ticket sponsored by SwC Poker) on: June 27, 2020, 11:33:26 PM
I do. And I'm very grateful to you for making them! It's not that I watch every minute of the recording, but some parts are really interesting to reminisce about.
And, yeah, a bit of voice over would be great! Thanks for what you are doing, mate!
if it's a hassle for you, don't worry about it. i have watched a couple and enjoyed it though. voice over would be great. Smiley
if only we could record it with all visible hole cards like on tv---that would be fun! i'd watch every minute.
I watch few videos just to check on the games if I was knockout early.
~snip~
I'd say leave it as usual because adding some voice over might be a burden for you. The main point is to watch some poker games, if we can watch it clearly then it is good already. You are doing nice job recording it so I dont want you to feel any burden by doing some extra

Sounds good. It's no hassle apart from the odd program clash when I'm home. The voice over is something I might try as I think it would be fun. It might also help me in seeing how well I can analyse a spot, on the spot. Not sure when but it will be something I throw in when I have an abundance of time to sit back and cover some spots. Might even do a cut and just run with a FT or something.
I should think about maybe setting up the dual monitor so I can run a satellite as well  Tongue

I did think about asking SWC if they would have had the replay from the Championship with hole cards, but I wasn't sure if other players at the table would appreciate it. Assuming SWC had it and was willing to allow me to use it.

Sorry to jump in here guys but I just wanted to point out it's pretty easy for us to just send chips between one another. Whether it be for a tip, or even a side bet. I just think it's best anything outside our personal tournament fees we handle on our own ends.

See everybody tomorrow.
