The market rate has been steadily narrowing between MtGox and BitStamp over the past few weeks.

The current difference is <1%.

This seems to indicate there's not much movement of capital between the two exchanges as it costs at least 2% to rotate capital between these two exchanges.

It takes time to rotate cash, Bitcoins on the other hand...

One week ago the difference was >$4 for several hours. I bought ~50BTC $104 at Bitstamp when it was $108@Mtgox.

But I guess these opportunities will get fewer as the arbitrators learns their lessons...
203  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Difficulty jumps 28% on: June 14, 2013, 10:00:54 PM
You guys underestimate how long an ASIC can last after ROI. After I make back ROI in USD($1333), I will only be paying for electricity. Being conservative, say I get 60gh/s @ 300 watts. And I pay on average $0.07 cents per kw/h. The single will cost about $15/month in electricity. At $100/btc, difficulty could jump 300 times the next estimate(19mil) to around 5.7billion before I'm negative. That's a lot of petahashes.
You need to change your perspective from USD-centric to BTC-centric.
That way you'll realize, that while your machine paid in USD, it lost in BTC. [You could've profited more if you just bought the BTC for USD]

Does anyone still believe this is gonna happen by the end of 2013, after the stagnation of May?

It dont believe it's likely but I do believe it could happen. All it would takes is for some backward country to start adopt it wide scale and I believe that would be enough. Like Kenya:

Impossible. Bitcoin does not scale to over 7 tps at the moment, and there's a significant controversy among influential people on whether the limit should ever be altered. Many influential developers do not want bitcoin to scale up.

At the very most, Bitcoin could replace some "official" fringe pseudocurrency, such as the SDR.

At the moment...

The core Bitcoin network can scale to much higher transaction rates than are seen today, assuming that nodes in the network are primarily running on high end servers rather than desktops. Bitcoin was designed to support lightweight clients that only process small parts of the block chain (see simplified payment verification below for more details on this). A configuration in which the vast majority of users sync lightweight clients to more powerful backbone nodes is capable of scaling to millions of users and tens of thousands of transactions per second.

Will be fun when someone puts that 10k BTC order so that their fake walls get filled.

Once Bitcoin grows, bitcoin gets more attractive and even more people want to use it, like neighbouring countries for trade. And it would legitimize it so even more countries would look to try the same experiment which would drive speculation which could take bitcoin above 5k.

Bitcoin today is very small, any non-small application of bitcoins would drive the price skywards.

Can someone please explain to me how the Kelly Criterion applies to cryptotrading, e.g. BTC on BTC-E

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IyATmCJf4fc

The formula is there, but how do I apply it?

Kelly Criterion is mainly useful when you can estimate the expected value of the investment which you can't with bitcoins.

209  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Large bitcoin mining farm mining 4 blocks a day having made 1600BTC on: June 08, 2013, 05:00:25 PM
maybe its a huge botnet ? Huh
With almost 4Th/s?
This means:
4'000Gh/s-> with 250Mh/s on average with GPU mining -> 80PC running 24H at 100%

More like 8000.

more like 16000

I assumed the previous answer assumed it was 2GPU/comp

Edibles are damn scary the first time you try them.
That was the only time I ever thought I was going to die... Not recommended. lol

Buy better butter. I find eating 1g of high grade gives me a very controlled trip. Just make sure you are starving when you eat it and dont eat for like 1h after digesting. The muchies after 2h are amazing Cheesy

I made 2 peanut butter firecrackers that day. I think it was 2-3g of mids. I felt nothing for 45 minutes, so I smoked. BIG mistake, because it hit me 15 minutes later, and I nearly called an ambulance.  Lips sealed

Also, how did we go from talking about Avalon cakes to talking about drugs?  Grin

Been there done that. At this friendly restaurant we ordered some ganja soup, didnt feel anything so we ordered some extra garlic bread weed, didnt feel that so we had some spring rolls with extra weed. That got us going so we just shared one joint. Then we sat in silence for a few hours.  Cheesy

One of the best trips I have had

They are really bad value. Nice gimmick, but not for that price and the hash power thats about to enter the market.
217  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: May 2013's first month in the red? on: May 30, 2013, 09:39:31 AM
Thanks for the links but it's so hard to read exact data for specific dates from them. Any better spreedsheet date by date somewhere out there?
218  Other / Beginners & Help / May 2013's first month in the red? on: May 30, 2013, 06:14:48 AM
